Zaranna takes one of her extra vials and scoops up some of the water so she can see the creatures more closely. She also casts detect magic to see if the water or the creatures radiate any kind of enchantment.

Zaranna smiles at the quality of the air, and goes over to one of the pools, trying to see if there is anything in the water or if it is safe to drink.

Could be that... could be we're mining close to their homes, or could be they just don't like us. I think Elyana's idea of trying to talk to them was a good one. Too bad we don't know their language.

Zaranna moves forward with the rest, keeping her eyes open for more mephits.

I'm not against it at all, but I don't know if we have a means of communicating with them. If we do, then I say let's try.

Well, I speak draconic, but that doesn't really sound right either... I'm not sure we can talk to them, but if you want to try, maybe just try common. They might have picked it up from the miners, at least a few words. Or... do you have a translation spell? I don't, but it does sound like something that could come in handy.

Zaranna moves away from Elyana so that they can't both be caught in a breath attack again, then shoots again at whatever mephit she can get a good shot at.

Zaranna once again moves away from the mephits and from Cardren to a position where she can get a clear shot at the one she had already hurt (the one that had been on the wall and had just belched pebbles at her).

She shoots badly, perhaps thrown off by the pebble belching, and tries to get ahold of herself and focus.

Zaranna moves away from the mephits, trying not to get engaged in melee, and shoots at the mephit on the wall.

Without a map, I can't tell exactly where to move, but that is her goal. If she can only take a single step away without getting an AOO, then that is what she will do.

Zaranna memorizes the directions and then starts into the mine.

Responding to Cardren's comment she says

Me too. I kind of like it.

Zaranna presents the paper from the mine boss.

We've been asked to go in and investigate. Have you guys seen anything unusual?

Deal. Thank you for letting us help.

She takes the paper and turns to leave, but then turns, bows very low to Illa, and says

Please forgive us Illa. We wish you no harm. We just misunderstood the situation.

Then she takes her leave, not wanting to scare the young woman further.

Hey, sorry again about that. Try to see it from our perspective. We saw what looked like an assassin on the way into an inn from outside. We were trying to protect someone from being killed. When we were informed of the mistake, we did our best to make up for it with the little money that we have. Please forgive us.

Sorry, can't remember what rolls we're supposed to roll and which ones you roll, but trying to use Diplomacy here, and my bonus is +9.

If we can put that behind us, we've heard there have been some problems here at the mine, and we'd like to help look into it. We're already involved because Kristoff is missing. This is his brother, Alric, and we're also inquiring on behalf of Larissa, his fiancee. ... Please, if you can see past our mistakes, I believe that we can help sort things out.

Zaranna knocks on the door.

Zaranna finds her thieves' tools, wondering if she would be able to pick the lock if no one came. She'd really never tried on a real lock... only practice ones, but she had the tools of the trade in case she needed to try.

Thank you says Zaranna to the worker who gave them directions, and then heads for the main building indicated, proceeding in unless something seems off.

Relieved that they are finally headed to the mine, Zaranna follows Alric.

Zaranna pockets the box with the ring, intending to give it to Kristoff when they find him.

Perhaps he was looking for a gem out there at the mine. We should go there to look for him now.

Zaranna accompanies Alric to find Kristoff's home.

I'm fine with going to his house first as long as it is quick... I'm worried that he was taken, not corrupted, and want to get on the trail.

I can understand wanting to check out your brother's place, but it seems to me that clues to his disappearance would be where he disappeared... unless you think he ran away instead?

She helps pack up their stuff, returns the cart, and goes with the group as they follow Alric.

We're off to the mine to investigate, correct? I think Alric is the one that knows where we're going though, so perhaps he needs to move us forward.

Ah, thank you. I didn't realize that ... I thought there would be tables. But, yes, no need... um... so does the cart stay, or do we just take the individual plates?

Zaranna takes a plate of food and steps back, wondering whether she should hand it off to someone, or just start eating... then she decides that the proprietor will know what to do, so she goes to sit down gingerly on her bed, places the plate on the bed beside her, and begins to eat.

Zaranna pulls her cloak on and answers the door.

Yes?

Oh, yeah, that sounds fine. We'll just sleep in the communal room.

She takes up a collection from the group, letting them know it is one silver each, and then gives the total amount to the innkeeper.

Zaranna says

We'll have the meal in the morning, since we ate earlier.

She hands over 2 silvers, telling the woman to keep the change.

As for the rooms, what is the cost for each option?

She acts like it is no big deal, but giving Elyana that gold piece had taken about a third of what she had to her name, so she hopes the place isn't too expensive.

Zaranna takes them all to the inn, and arranges for rooms and a meal.

Zaranna comes back and tells the group that she found a place for them to stay called The Pick and Pillow.

Zaranna resumes looking for a place to stay, trying to find something as close to Larissa's place as possible.

That's a kind thought, Elyana. I'm in.

Zaranna hands Elyana a gold piece to help the effort.

Ah. Yes, I am new in town, and I thank you for the information. I'll go tell my friends not to kill her. Sorry for the disturbance.

Zaranna walks outside and says

She has an arrangement with the owner. Let her go.

"Let me guess. A little someone climbing the wall in the East Alley?"

Um, yes. How did you know that? Is this a frequent occurrence?

Zaranna finally realizes that no one followed her and that she is making a scene for no reason. She asks the barkeep who is staying in the eastern room, and (if she gets that information), she comes outside to share it with the others.

When Alric talks to her, Zaranna's plans change and she runs back into the bar.

She says

Assassin coming up the wall outside!

She motions for everyone to join her as she runs up the stairs, trying to get to the easternmost room before the assassin can harm anyone.

Zaranna spots Alric, but he looked like he was trying to hide, so she walked past the alley, commenting out loud to noone

Off to find an inn... and then scouted around to find one with room for all of them.

Maybe he was just thinking of asking Fel out?

She finishes her meal and then goes outside to see if she can spot Alric and see if he did indeed find them an inn.

Zaranna gets up and moves over to Cardren, at which point she whispers something to him.

No marks on his wrists, so I hope that means he is not being controlled, but not sure if that means not connected.

She then sits back down, but doesn't touch her food, instead tightening the string on her bow, and getting ready to leave.

When Alric says in Elven that they are being watched, Zaranna looks up from her meal to see what he is talking about. Following his eyes, she sees a gnome that is perhaps a little too curious. She watches him to see if there is a mark on his hand.
