Guys, it's been a while since I've been able to dedicate the time to the game that it warrants. I'm currently swamped at work and don't foresee a break in the next couple of months. As such, it's best that I leave the game and perhaps give someone else an opportunity to play and contribute. Deal with my PC as it best suits the game. Thanks and sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

The entomancer now pulled forth his two claws and prepared to attack. He moved towards the overturned table while keeping the tank to his back to cut off any attempt to flee.

double move to get closer

Yatin moves towards the tank to try and cut off their escape. He rues on the violence around him trying hard not to succumb to the chaos.

He yelled back to his companions, "I thought we were only supposed to restrain them?"

Yatin whispered loud enough for his companions to hear and told them about the three opponents. He then hurried along and followed the elven woman getting ready for violence. His claw manifested and he clenched his jaws in anticipation.

The entomancer frowned as he heard the information from his scout. He turned to his companions, "It seems they had a little surprise of their own."

He then related the information obtained and prepared to hatch out a plan.

"Do you want to split up, strike as one force, draw them out...?"

His mantis claws manifested as if yearning for some blood.

other PCs may read spoiler above if you haven't done so already

Korbinian wrote:
"Can any of you sneak and get eyes-on?" Korbinian whispers.

"I can or rather my scout can."

Yatin sends his fly ahead and asks it to communicate what it sees telepathically.

Moegan "Pinochle" wrote:

He pulls a ransom note from his vest. It reads...

"Leave 500 gold by Lesko's silo tonight at midnight or you'll never see your friends again."

He bridges his fingers behind his head, and leans back smiling - clearly impressed with his plan. "Whaddya think?" He nods to Yatin - the questioning of his leadership still on Moegan's mind.

Yatin nodded, "I would have been more 'direct' with traitors but your method will do. Without his tank, he's hardly a threat but we must make sure to disable it well enough so he won;t be able to repair it anytime soon. I would hate to have to deal with extra complications on our way in or out."

He looked at Korbinian, "I'll go with you and take care of things." he grabbed the note from Moegan and stepped out towards the cabin.

Yatin nodded as the plan was once more laid bare. "Before we burst through at location 1 perhaps we can rig a trap, falling rocks or something, in case we need to leave the same way we came in."

He looked around, "Anyone any good at setting traps?"

Moegan "Pinochle" wrote:
He asks Korb and Yatin, "How do I look? Would you take a job from me?" before making a move to approach the drow.

Yatin smiled, "You'd look a lot of better with a bag of gold dangling from your belt."

He then turned to Korbinian, "How bad was your minion? Were you able to repair him fully?"

later
The entomancer discreetly called his fly; the insect soon posed on the man's ear. Yatin then directed the fly to go near the tables to try and gain some knowledge of what these people were talking about.

Moegan "Pinochle" wrote:
Yeah those were kinda too tough for a few level two PCs.. they were probably the second toughest random encounter on the list.

I thought we were going through a home-made adventure; are you using something pre-made?

Yatin also ordered some food and asked Moegan, "So, what's the plan, boss?"

He then loudly munched on his food while quietly but efficiently asking the man questions...

when do we leave, how long until we get there, what's up with Bovin's healing, etc. anything and everything that relates to the success of the mission or that Moegan cares to answer

Guys, in general we need to 'tag' each other more often to get more roleplaying going. Just my humble suggestion.

Moegan "Pinochle" wrote:
Once Bovis is carried inside, Moegan tucks a book inside his vest and says, "Anyone comin? I'm going to the tavern... see if I can scrounge up another worthy recruit or two... and a med kit." He says this last part quietly with a tinge of guilt for his lack of preparation.

Yatin put his things away in the cabin and followed Moegan to the tavern.

He told the 'leader', "Aye I can heal Bovis once we are set for the night. I'll recoup my magic after a good night sleep and be ready for action. Sorry to be so stingy but healing magic does not flow freely in me."

cast cure light wounds as needed (up to 3 times) to make sure Bovis is well in the morning if nothing happens in the tavern that requires my magic

Moegan "Pinochle" wrote:
Moegan looks back at Bovis, and shrugs to Yatin..."Whatever you think's best."

Yatin was confused, "What do you mean 'whatever I think it's best'? Aren't you leading this? Isn't Bovis critical to our mission? if so, do you have other means of healing him?"

The entomancer wasn't reassured by the lack of command. His military training just told him that there was something wrong here, that his life was at danger.

He put his hand on Moegan's arm and looked him in the eye, "Are you in charge here?"

just spicing this up a bit :)

Yatin did scavenge the useful items. If not useful to the entomancer, they could be good for trade and everyone liked liquor.

With task finished, he went back to the steam wagon and turned to Moegan, "With the aid of leech, I can offer some healing for Bovis; what do you want to do?"

The entomancer nodded at Moegan, "It seems you're right but let me take a closer look nonetheless."

He then moved the wagon aside and looked for any survivors as well as any that could be salvaged.

perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

With combat over, the entomancer didn't bother with the fleeing creature except to see that it was gone for good and would not return.

He sheathed his claws and turned to Bovis, "You alright?"

later
Yatin then jumped down from the steamwagon and happily stretched his legs. He neared the fallen wagon and wreckage to see if there were any survivors.

He gave the golem crab a wide berth while making sure he was visible to Korbinian lest the construct decide to attack him. He yelled back, "Hey, you got your pet under control right?"

The entomancer nodded to Ommka, "Good job. Were you hurt? What were those things?"

Understood, please let us know otherwise

Yatin took advantage of the monster's carelessness as it attacked Bovis. He ripped his claw into its flank.

to hit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Smiling as the large reptile bird came within reach, Yatin's mantis claws dug into the beast. The hard chitin ripped into the side and the claws were soon bloodied.

to hit claw: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
to hit claw: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

What is their AC or will you take care of hits and misses? How hurt are they? Does Yatin get an AoO? If so, for what?

Not wanting to waste another javelin, the entomancer flexed his claws and waited to see what the cowardly reptile-birds would do. He yelled taunts at the monsters and waited, "Come down here, son. Let's see you screech from my claws."

waiting to see if they attack or come down. If they come within melee range, he'll attack with both claws

@Ommka: Well, he's got me going after the enemies but here goes anyway. :)

The entomancer's hand whipped back and a long javelin appeared. It was smooth brown but tipped with a chitinous, barbed point. He turned his body and launched the missile to the closest creature with a grunt.

javelin to hit: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16, not sure if that hits but just in case...
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

He then brought his hands up but they soon twisted and changed. Fingers melded together and his forearms transformed into jagged claws more befitting a giant insect than a human. He smiled and anticipated the bloodshed.

Yatin almost hit his head as the vehicle turned abruptly; his curse caught in his throat as he heard Moegan from the cabin up front.

He peered trying to discern what the creatures up ahead were while he weighed the options of what to do next.

Please roll whatever knowledge skill is appropriate. Do we roll actions or wait for our turn in initiative?

'quarter gallop' obviously didn't have the same meaning here, thought Yatin as he tried to get comfortable in the back of the steam wagon. But the floor was hard and not molded like a proper war saddle. The promise of a Inn was a welcome one but roadside camping sounded much better.

He looked at ..., still not sure what he was looking at he merely asked, "Doing Ok, there Ommka. So you like camping, eh?"

It sounded like chit-chat to pass the time but, in truth, Yatin wanted intel to better adapt when it came time to survive. Ans there was no use talking to the other person who was soundly asleep.

sorry this is late but perhaps we can talk to the farmers for a second

Bumping along the open road, Yatin rubbed his behind once more and rued the fact that he couldn't be on top of war trained hornet. All the metal around him made him feel like in a cage.

The man stood up and stretched his limbs while he surveyed the road ahead. He cautioned Ommka, "Careful there. I don't think you want to fall out of this 'thing'."

later
He nodded to the farmers and noted their heavy weaponry, "You look a bit too well armed for working the land. What troubles this area?"

OK, so Ommka and Yatin ride in the back while Moegan and Korbinian are in the front. I'm assuming Bovis is with us? What about Korbinian's golem? What about captain Schultz and his tank? Following behind?

So what does this look like? Are we all riding on/in it? I thought Korbinian had a golem; is it inside as well? Just trying to get some info before I post for Yatin.

Korbinian wrote:
"I'm ready. Any other supplies we need?"

Yatin thumped his breastplate armor and flexed his arms, "Yeah, I'm ready as well. How are we getting there?"

Ommka wrote:

Ommka's eyes widen very slightly at Yatin's initial mantid display, and she watches with appreciation as his insect flutters about.

"So, an Entomancer!" the Ossin intones hoarsely in open admiration.

Yatin nodded, "Yes, trained in the Academia Entomologia none the less. However, I'm a 'swarmer' at heart and will one day go back to them. Once they apologize for properly for saving a few of them that day."

Noting the 'green' and smelling 'nature', he cautiously asked, "Where do you call home?"

DM Bloodgargler wrote:
Captain Schultz - I'll stat them. Just the two gunners for this mission. If other players care to take the other positions, cool, otherwise the NPCs Bovis and Moegan will.

So the 'tanker PC' comes with a tank and 4 NPCs?

Isn't that a little too much? :)

Yatin smiled, "What can I do?"

He pointed to Bovis and chuckled, "Ask him?"

His arm quickly transformed into a savage mantis claw; his tone was angry, "I can rip people to shreds." He calmed down some and continued, "But I can also take the sting out of your wounds. I also can call upon insects for different things."

He opened his hand and a wasp flew down from the ceiling above, "And he can scout. Understands everything we said and tells me about it. Sometimes he talks too much. Not out loud but in my head."

Not giving much chance for people to ask questions, he added, "And you'll also want to stick with me if we're ever in some situation where just staying alive is an issue. I can easily find food and water."

He asked Madame, "What about nocturnals? Where are they in the area we're going to?"

Yatin nodded as the plan and map was explained in a bit more detail. He still had questions but they could wait. For now, the hesitation he noted in Moegan was more important.

"Yes, Mr. Moegan. What exactly is your part in this mission? And what chance is there for Bovis to 'foul up'?"

Hey DM, thanks for the map but can you please explain it a little bit.

I take it that the gray areas are cliffs and are above the light brown areas.

But what about the dark brown areas? Is that supposed to mean a different elevation or underground (in the mountain)? I'm also confused about the 'old mining complex' and how it overlaps both gray and brown areas.

Sorry for the extra work but I just want to make sure I understand and make use of the tactical advantages provided.

It would be a shame not to properly use your map.

Thanks,

Ommka wrote:

Ommka favors Yatin with the same wolfish grin, and thinks on his question.

"I was planted. I grew. Now I am here. With you. And my blade. I am Ommka."

Her voice is as the rush of wind on barley or the soughing of paper thin seedpods on stone. She stares at Yatin, neither kind nor unkind - consideration as deep as the willow's roots in the river and yet also fleeting as the fronds of the crocus. She smiles again.

The entomancer thought he had seen everything in the 'jungle' but was definitely new. "Well met Ommka. I am Yatin." Not sure what else to say to a... plant, he kept quiet and listened.

at Korbinian's intro

Yatin had no idea who the goreaux was but it was interesting to know that some of the others already knew each other.

He gently nudged the spider back under his armor and nodded, "Well met. I am Yatin, from the Crawling Jungle."

Just saying the name of his homeland made him want to hop on an Urbana barge and head down south the Cold River. He could be home in hours.

Instead, he concentrated on what he was supposed to do and listened attentively.

@Ommka: I never had the chance to roleplay with a plant so you'll have to bear with me. I'm not sure I can relate to what motivates a plant, what it fears, wants, etc.

But this will be good because I'll just pass this on to Yatin.

Anyway, with so many cool races/nationalities to play in Thunderscape, what motivated you to make a new race and play a plant?

Moegan "Pinochle" wrote:

"Course you do. Place is called Aqiribast... little over 200 miles from here... not far from Burcham's Pass." He continually glances to the doors in the back, as if either concerned about whatever issue Madame Balash is tending to... or not comfortable acting as head briefer for the mission. "They were settin up to make airships... facility is built on an old canyon mine. We're just lookin at knockin out two locations on the perimeter. The Rhan'll take it from there."

"Bovis here'll handle our egress." He gestures to the other lingering man in the room - the other "recruiter" who'd brought some of you here tonight. Bovis is a male human whose head (due to his bushy beard and hair) looks disproportionate on his lean frame. He steps forward and nods upon being indicated.

The notion of airships brought back fond memories for Yatin. If only he could have remained in Kyan, he was sure to be riding a giant hornet by now, right next to the Queen.

But no, his 'mission' was to stay out for a few more years. He had met up with some compatriots riding water striders to learn news from home a few days ago. They had gotten in trouble with some thugs from Urbana while here in Blackport. He had helped to 'deal with the issue', which was when Bovis had found him.

Bovis seemed a capable enough fellow but... in charge of their egress?

He turned to the 'recruiters', "So, it's up to us to get there then? What about this egress, how will it be accomplished?"

tag?

Yatin nodded to the 'plant creature', at least he would never too far from nature, especially in some of the desert areas the Rhanate was supposed to have. He was curious as to 'what' she was but held his tongue. Instead he asked, "So how did you end up here?"

DM Bloodgargler wrote:

Yatin - No, this is not canon. (I figured having the "greater powers" hands-off in this situation would buy me some time to better learn the politics.) We'll say this is 1128. Yvek Hassashar has just been named Rhan of Aqiribast - the settlement built around the facility.

Successful Knowledge (local) rolls might give some more background to this Rhan Hassashar if anyone who is so skilled is curious. Know(local) or Know(history) to know about Aqiribast.
Otherwise, most questions can be answered by the NPCs. (I'm stalling now so those ready don't get too far before everybuddy else is.)

Cool, thanks for the answers.

Just to make sure we're on the same page here, my verminous scout (INT=6) can understand the languages I speak and can communicate telepathically what he hears. Is this your understanding?

So Yatin has the veritable 'fly on the wall'.

OK, so Yatin doesn't know politics and I'll continue to play him as such.

However, Fabian is very interested in politics, especially thinking for a potential Thunderscape game.

So, is Yvek Hassashar an actual Rhan? I think you deviated some from canon, right?

That's OK but what is he a Rhan of? What area, city, whatever is he in charge of?

Thanks,

Fabian

Yatin seemed uncomfortable in his own skin as he fidgeted and listened to the Madame. Rhans? Trading routes? Life was much simpler back home. One Queen whom everyone respected and loved. No trade with outsiders. One large self-sustaining community. Nothing like Urbana, which was eating itself from the inside.

As the Madame was excused, her scout took over the meeting, at least momentarily. The jurak was sure of himself and acted like a bully. Yatin smiled; he was going to get along just fine with him.

He lifted his hand to pet a large spider that had just crawled from under his shiny black armor and was now in the crook of his neck and shoulder.

Yatin looked about, "OK, so where is this manufacturing facility and what exactly do we need to do? Do we sabotage the place? Do we scare off the bandits?"

Before the jurak answered, he interrupted, "I'm in by the way. I just want some additional details, that's all."

I think it's way more enjoyable to read a chapter-like turn without all the dice rolling, discussion, and disjointed posts that are normal in PbPs.

However, I'm not here to beat my chest but I would be happy to discuss the merits of turn recaps PbPs vs regular PbPs but this is not the forum for this.

So let's get back to this game before the GM gets mad at us. :)

So... do we know each other? Do we have some sort of connection?

Are we the 'A-team'?

If we're supposed to be an 'elite commando team', have we considered starting a couple of levels higher (and adjust challenges accordingly)?

Game on!

PS: I'll look for another avatar of a burly, angry man later tonight. Please point me to one if you have one in mind.

this is Tenro's character, a goreaux mechamage. He will ride atop (or fight alongside, as appropriate) a crab-shaped stone golem.

I'm looking forward to teaching Korbinian about the supremacy of the insects, way better than crabs. :)

Korbinian wrote:
@ Yatin... Dark Sun hard to find players for? I love DS. I must have missed your recruitment (I haven't checked in some time, but I had some games die so I had a little more space freed up).

Well, maybe it's because I made it clear that I expect some real roleplaying (and associated writing) for my games. I ended up taking the five players that submitted characters; I couldn't turn any away. :)

Take a look at what I have going on if you're interested. The turns are on the Gameplay Thread, which is all you have to read to get an idea of what the game is like. The game is fairly new (about 1.5 months into it) but we've covered some decent ground.

Game on!

Glad to have been selected, thank you.

I was a backer for the Kickstarter but have not had a chance to play yet. I wanted to start a game but decided against it since I knew it would be difficult to find players. I decided to start a Dark Sun game (also difficult to find players for). But Thunderscape is still in my sights so maybe once one of my other games are finished...

The thing with PbPs is that they take so long and by the time one is finished, I'll have like 'a lot of games' to select from. Too many games, too little time. Who invented work anyways? :)

OK, back on topic, Yatin is here reporting for duty.

What are we discussing?

DM Bloodgargler wrote:
Fabian - Fun... I'm sure the thought of maggot-healing would keep most allies from taking unnecessary risks.

He extended his hand, "Now, just let me see that wound before it festers and I then have to introduce a different type of maggot. You don't want those maggots because they may 'sting' a little."

Yeah, I think he'll be fun to play with.

Game on!

Hey DM,

Please consider Yatin for inclusion in your game.

Yatin is a creepy, quick to anger, entomancer. He was somewhat of a loose cannon and was sent away to gather information about the world.
He provides excellent melee power (innate weapons) and decent ranged support. He will be able to ride into battle (ground and air) by 4th level.

He can be a part-time healer. His social skills will likely be intimidation. He has good knowledge nature, survival (create water), and handle animal skills. He’ll also be good at perception (both him and telepathic verminous scout).

Whenever possible, I’ll ‘color’ his actions to mimic insect-like functions. For example, his cure light wounds spell will entail coating the wound with maggots that eat away the damaged flesh and coat it with a soothing salve, etc.

I have provided full stats, appearance, background, and personality in the alias.

Please let me know if you have any questions at this time.

Thanks for hosting a game.

L8r,

Fabian
