GM, is the statue with the Eyes up in the upper Sanctum, or is it the one in the church on the third floor?

I'm just going to keep posting short scenes of the things Xanos has been working on. Feel free to do the same or respond. Fang can respond to them when he has time.

Golgotha wasn't really a horse anymore. At a distance the undead beast would pass, but up close it was very clear that it was something... different.

Instead of hooves, Albrekt's steed now had massive clawed paws that were reminiscent of a cat's feet mixed with monkey hands. It also had a rounded metal crate grafted behind it's exposed ribcage, taking the place of all it's internal organs and the meat of it's chest and stomach.

Once Xanos had sapled and bolted the beast's skirt and barding back on, the coffin was hidden from sight.

Golgotha's saddle now had a hole in it covered by a metal grating. For anyone but an armored vampire, meerly riding the beast woud be extremely uncomfortable now. The grating led into the hollowed out metal crate.

The horse was now an animated coffin.

Necrocrafting Golgotha. Albrekt's Horse receives the following changes:

Gain a Climb and Burrow speed equal to it's base speed
Gain the Trample special ability.
HD increases to 7d8
Internal coffin sized for a medium creature added.

Albrekt, you owe Xanos 600 GP for the components of the Animate Dead spells required to make the materials used in the construction.

If you're feeling frustrated, something needs to change. Here's an outside perspective that might help.

For much of the game, I considered Haruk the "face" character of the party. Before our three new folks came on board it was Xanos, Haruk and Albrekt being the three evil amigos. Xanos and Albrekt are not really social characters (obviously). Haruk definitely is, or at least he can be when he chooses to. One of the things I've noticed is that Haruk doesn't often choose to take advantage of his charm.

For instance, when we arrived to talk to the baron, Albrekt and Xanos were their usual selves. As a player, I thought it was a good opportunity for Haruk to show off, charm the pants off the baron, and maybe chide Xanos and Albrekt for their lousy diplomacy.

I was surprised when Haruk jumped onto the "be a jerk to a potential ally" bandwagon.

I would never want to tell you how to play your character, but since you seem kind of unhappy with Haruk lately, I thought I'd bring that example up as a spot that seemed like a missed opportunity for Haruk to shine.

Right now, we are building an evil organization. I can't think of anyone in the party better suited to recruitment than our devilishly charming sorcerer. It's something you could easily do, if you wanted to.

Basically, I'm saying it's fine for Haruk to be snide and aloof if that's what you want him to be. However, you might get a lot of role play mileage out of having Haruk hide his true nature and be smooth and charismatic in pursuit of his goals.

If I'm misreading and your frusterations are mechanical in nature, maybe we can talk about some kind of retraining?

We only have ten days right now, so some stuff will have to wait.

With Xanos, Lefty and Molsabar all working on crafting we can crank out roughly 5k worth of magical ctafting progress per day.

"Useful." Xanos said. "I will be here while you decide what to do with the shrine."

Might as well start now with Knowledge Arcana. I'll take 10 for 26 (with aid anotehr from familiar) to get a baseline for the difficulty and complexity of these translations.

Sheesh, no. I came up with Xanos first.

Anaxian is like Xanos squared. I like Fanguar and would not want to inflict that upon him. I don't even want to inflict that on myself again. It was a fun experiment, but I've learned to enjoy simplicity.

Edit: Now that I think about it, Anaxian is really more like Xanos cubed. There were a whole lot of that little dragon.

Xanos could feel the suppression of his power and sense of autonomy. It rankled him. He'd been forced to exist inside illusions and falsehoods for months now. He'd become used to it. Comfortable even, but now he was struck by the oppression. Even here, in a bastion of daemonic might that he had helped create, the Mitrans had found a way to stifle him.

His form rippled and he cast off the illusory disguise he'd worn since Ballentyne.

It was the first time Molsabar, Rose and Sariana had ever seen what he really looked like. He was taller, nearly as tall as Albrekt. He was lanky, but with broad shoulders and surprisingly impressive muscular definition. His skin was very dark, but with a lack of natural hue that left him looking ashen. His eyes were rimmed in red, and unearthly pale. His cheekbones were high, but his nose was broad and his lips full.

He wore pale grey robes that only highlighted his unhealthy looking ashen skin. They hung open at the chest displaying white tattoos of cryptic script that seemed to slide away when the eye tried to focus on them.

The entire effect was like looking at a man who out of place. Like an evolutionary fork that had disappeared in ages past.

And he looked like he was dying.

I think I've been in somewhere around 10 versions of this AP now. Most of them died in Branderscar. Some got to Ballentyne but died off during prep to siege the fortress. One made it slightly further than we are now.

At this point, I'm pretty sure I could run the first book of this AP without actually using the book. >.<

Having a notated map will definitely help with that. I haven't played this far in the series yet, so it is interesting to think we will spend some time here. Hopefully we will find some cash to support some crafting during that time.

This leads into my next item on the agenda-

GM, assuming we can come up with some cash, would you be alright with us buying an Adamantine pick and shovel, and a Lyre of Building?

I want to make some alterations to the structure of this place.

Yeah, there're definitely some of that in this section. My suspicion is that the author wanted to give GMs the option of either "getting on with it" or populating the dungeon themselves.

In a face to face game, it would be pretty easy to slap the map down and say "here's what you find, and maybe put sticky notes all over with some basic descriptions. That's what I would do in a home game, so I thought I'd basically do the same thing with Roll20. It's a pretty easy program to learn. Tonight I'm going to try to figure out why uploading the PC tokens didn't work last time.

I've played through the end of this exploration section and into the beginning of the next part. I feel like it's pretty obvious at this point that this will be our base of operations for a while, so I wanted to make a To Do list and ask a few GM questions just to get that ball rolling. I'll make another post for that stuff for ease of tracking.

I'm trying new things!

I've dabbled with Roll20 as a player, but this is the first time I've actually put together any content with it. The learning curve isn't too bad.

So, this is the map of the Horn of Abbadon that the GM linked us earlier. It's huge. I've labeled everything important we have discovered so far and I'll continue to update it as we go. Since the map is so big, I recommend using the tool bar to view it at about 40%

There's something screwy going on with my ability to upload tokens, so right now, Haruk is the only one in the party that shows up so he represents the whole group.

I have the caverns below done as well, but I can only put us on one map at a time. Next time we go down there in game I'll change the map.

"Possible. The Mitrans are the sorts who would use a holy site to cover up something they did not approve of." Xanos said thoughtfully. "I suspect there is more to this than a mitran shrine though. It would be too simple, and it does not make sense given the architecture of this place."

"Need is subjective. Want is enough." Xanos said simply as he perused the paperwork with Molsabar.

After a short time he raised an eyebrow at the schematics. "Lightning elemental blood? That would require... Planar Binding. A simple summon spell would not leave blood behind. Strange that the designer would require that, instead of Bottled Lightning."

"Finding such a creature already bound to this plane is unlikely."

"This place was once the home of the most successful doomsday cult in history. Daemonic power is woven into the stone of the entire mointain. Xanos chuckled as he deciphered the enchantments in the dead minotaur's room. "This is a larder. The room is enchanted to preserve food and drink. And, it seems, corpses. Very useful."

Once in the temple rooms, Xanos picked up the journal, thumbed through it for a few moments, then slipped it into his bag to read later. "Does not look important, but it may render some contextual information to this place." he said, mostly to himself.

Here's what I propose for searching this place-

We move as a group, letting Sariana take point while Taking 10 on Perception to scan for anything not immediately obvious.

Our spellcasters will have Detect Magic up as they follow behind.

GM, you can choose our path and describe the rooms until we run into something that would constitute an "encounter" or "hazard."

Sound good?

"Fiends are not unreasonable creatures. Particularly with your presence, I'm sure we could reach some kind of an alliance with any we come across here." Xanos considered for a moment. "A celestial host seems more likely than a fiendish one. Any fiendish defenders this place had were likely destroyed or banished during Markadian's crusade. The Mitran forces may have left behind guardians or enchantments to prevent anyone from doing precisely what we are here to do."
