"Looks like the decision is made. Let's see where this goes," Walter speaks almost to himself, stepping into the corridor. "Yes, easy enough. Are we hearing you physically or mentally? Do I need to teach everyone radio communication procedures?" Walter asks with a large amount of humor in his voice.

"This whole place is glowing with magic. It seems like everything here and the room itself are complete magical creations. Without greater intel, we can't make any kind of informed decision regarding the doors." Walter says this all very matter-of-factly and moves closer to the doors staring at each intently. "'Nothing [we] shouldn't be able to handle.' So yes, it's dangerous. Noted. As long as you don't decide to use those explosives while we're in there..." Walter waits a moment either for nothing to happen, in which case the area is currently safe, or... Oh good. No screams. and follows Aiden down the ladder. After taking in his surroundings, Walter closes his eyes and focuses on his connection to his grimoire.
Edit: Looks like great minds think alike. To clarify, I'm looking for any magical auras in the area.

"Man, if you're going to quote a movie, at least do it right." Turning back to Allison and Professor Freeborn, Walter shrugs and grins, "As it is, I'm voicing a formal complaint regarding your methods, not that anything will come of it, but that being said, MAGIC IS REAL! A week ago I would have killed someone to take part in something like this and now I'm going to question whether or not it's safe? Screw that. Let's do this."

"More like something exploded, the place caught fire, she died. But I guess showing up to classes after that isn't too odd around these parts," Walter deadpanned, doing his best to not sound too sarcastic. "Actually Aiden, now that I think about it, seeing as absolutely nobody else seems to have either noticed or cared about any of that, I'm starting to think it was all mental. To show the grimoires that we're worthy. Except that Allison showed up right in the middle of it all. Nevermind. I don't even know."

An uneasy feeling has been growing in the pit of Walter's stomach but he hasn't been able to put a reason to it until some point during Professor Freeborn's pep talk, "I don't mean to interrupt, Aiden, but are you guys kidding me? Sure there are five of us, but you want us to go in, untrained, to fight and contain whatever is lurking in there. Neither of you are going to be coming in with us, despite having much more experience dealing with things like this. Why do I get the feeling we're acting like cannon fodder here? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a good fight, but going in with untrained abilities, against an unknown opponent, with no intel is more of a death wish than a fight."

Walter gives Michael a vicious glare when Michael completely ignores the note passed to him not two minutes prior. Fortunately, the cloak doesn't decide to speak. The threat of giving it back to Eibon and never releasing it again must have worked to silence it, at least temporarily. At least that can only be a good sign. Or it's plotting against me. Stupid intelligent items.

I forgot to mention this when you reminded me that we'd be changing the objects fairly often but I took the personality from an intelligent sword that changes form into this guy so the constantly changing items wouldn't worry me too much. I'll leave the personality out of it though, unless a great opportunity to let him loose again comes up ;)

When Walter wakes, it's not the "opens one eye at a time and hides back under his blankets for five more minutes" routine that many people go through. When Walter wakes, he is instantaneouly awake and taking in his surroundings trying to determine whether anything has changed since the time he went to sleep. He frowns at the cloak folded neatly on top of his grimoire and eyes it suspiciously. "That's new," he says to himself. No note. No indication that it was ever not there. Just a feeling of pride from Eibon. "Eibon? The hell? You know what, it's probably better that I don't start asking questions now of all times." "FOOL!" The voice was clear and Walter looked around, still finding himself alone in the bedroom. "Great. Now I'm hearing voices. I think." Walter grabs the cloak and unfolds it, running his hands along the material and marveling at its unique color. It is made of what appears to be soft, black wool on the outside and collar and, somehow, pearlescent silk lining on the inside with several pockets within easy reach as long as the cloak was pulled around the wearer. The tall, stiff collar had a single thick band of red on the inside that apparently served no design purpose. "Curious. But after everything that's happened, I'm willing to trust Eibon's judgement on the thing." "FOOL! The only judgement you should trust is mine!" Walter spins around, hearing a voice behind him but it takes a couple of turns before a sudden understanding comes over him: the cloak is speaking. The band of red comes unbidden to the front of his thoughts, and Walter takes the cloak off to verify his suspicions. "Cloak?" "My legend dates back to the twelfth century, thank you very much. Where are you from? What is your name? What is your favorite number between one and twelve?" "This ought to be fun. I'll see if one of the others has any duct tape if this thing doesn't shut up by the time I get down to breakfast." ----- Walter meets the rest of the motley group wearing his new cloak, his grimoire under his arm, and backpack over one shoulder. "Gentlemen," he says, by way of greeting and then puts a finger to his lips, obviously asking for quiet while he pulls out a piece of paper and a pen. Don't acknowledge the cloak he scribbles, passing the paper around before allowing them to speak again. "How was everyone's night?" Good god. I accidentally closed the tab I was writing this in just before I wrote the breakfast part. Started freaking out cause I wouldn't have been able to do it all again if I had to. All's well though. ctrl-t for the win. Ten points to anybody that gets Cloak's personality source material. Also, GM I've finished the crunch on everything I think. Take a look at Walter's profile when you get a chance and let me know if you see anything off. I swapped out Deadly Guidance for Mythic Sustenance.

(OOC) Wooo finally done with all of our inspections. I've got work at 0600 tomorrow, so I'm going to get as much sleep as I can tonight, and I'll finish doing all the mythic crunch tomorrow. (IC) Aiden, I'm gonna have to say no to sharing a room. It's nothing personal, but I've had more than my share of roommates over the past few years. Walter is going to take the Marshal path (as a military man, it makes the most sense) with Advance as the Marshal's Order ability, Deadly Guidance as a 1st-tier ability, and Diehard as level 2 feat. I can only assume this is going to get us into a little bit of trouble; running towards things that I should be running away from. In my defense, "The mission of the Marine Corps rifle squad is to locate, close with, and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver, and to repel enemy assault by fire and close combat." That is ingrained into us all, infantry or not, and the Marshal stuff is just his combat-trained side coming out.

Okay so that list just got a whole lot smaller. Well then, let's make it an Intelligent Cloak of the Hedge Wizard (Enchanting). Special ability is spellcasting from the Wizard's spell list.Sleep, Daze Monster, and Create Pit is five points worth of spells I can cast as spell-like abilities. Or I'm misunderstanding that and you only get to pick from special abilities every time after the first? Either way, intelligence is my choice.

Walter wanders the halls during his downtime and looks for a gym and either a track or some trails. He's not going to let a little thing like class (or insanity-inducing mysteries) stop him from keeping himself at a good level of physical activity. He does spend his lunch time with the book in his hands, specifically trying to find a way to communicate with it more than just via emoting.

"I caught it, too. As for the class, it's mandatory. Everyone we've met so far is here." Sigh... I just had the whole "my name is" vs "I am" discussion with my Marines like two weeks ago. Unless "Professor" is her first name. then nevermind.

There are a couple of other things I want to look into before we all become demon hunters or some such - I need to rewatch Supernatural, for starters - but if I'm late, go ahead and start the discussion without me. For now, let's get to our first class and see what this place is like under the sunlight." Note to self: She hesitated in the doorway. Find out what Allison knows, slash what she's not letting on.

Walter continues eating, not planning on adding anything more to the discussion unless asked directly. Instead, he turns his efforts towards taking stock of the newcomers; measuring up their attitudes and where they're likely to fit best in the event of another combat situation. Rory's a bit of a slob, I'm going to have to try and instill some dignity in the man before long, or else take my meals seperately. Walter's gaze swept over to "Mike" and immediately noted two things, Left-handed and should be decent in close quarters with a weapon. Between him and Denton, we'll have front and rear security covered. Never rely on him for anything requiring exact pronunciation. Allison was a bit harder to peg, despite having spent more time in her company than that of the other two. More knowledgeable than the rest of us, at the moment. A little bit of a temper, but not enough to impair judgement - do our emotions affect the power or consistency of the spells we cast? Worth looking into. Keep her nearby. Test her leadership abilities for the event of my incapacitation. She mentioned that she worked for someone. Assume that she will be unreliable in the long-term, but we all can learn from her while she's around. Satisfied with his initial assessments, Walter returns his attention to the breakfast that he had been pushing around his plate and picks up the rest of the conversations.

Walter responds to Aiden first, while filling a plate and beginning to eat. "Indeed. Loss of manpower is, unfortunately, inevitible in conflict, but that we didn't notice it happen is what disturbs me. Don't beat yourselves up over it. There was a lot going on that we didn't have the greatest grasp of. Looking out for each other is just going to become something that we all need to focus on a bit more. "I brought everything I thought I'd need, though I should probably put in a phone call to my aunt and ask her advice. She's a practicing Wiccan, but I've never really talked to her about what that entails. F~+~ it, even she'd probably call me crazy if I tell her about some of this stuff." Sorry about the delay. Walter took the newcomer's berating with a scowl and replied, not realizing that he was echoing Denton's thoughts on the matter, "Staying in the hallway would have been nice, aside from the rest of the monsters that we were attempting to leave behind, and a fire to boot. We were dragged into this mess, Professor Darleth was killed in the initial earthquake or explosion or whatever it was, and we weren't told much of anything before these things started showing up. You'll have to forgive us if we're not thinking clearly!" Walter was practically yelling as he finished but not in anger; it was mostly the adrenaline from combat bringing out his aggressiveness and frustration. Still, he did as the woman asked and attempted to vent his frustration even further on the beast in front of them be channeling the energy swirling around him towards the monster. After taking in the exchange between Denton and his tome, Walter walks up next to Denton, opens his own book, and studies the contents of each. He pauses for only a couple of seconds to do what he does best: think. When he speaks, it's a cross of speaking to Denton and at him. "Bear with me on this, I haven't tried to quantify my thoughts yet, so if something I say doesn't make sense, let me know. To start, I'm assuming that something changed, besides the book's feelings, like you mentioned. You have a better understanding of the contents, or a portion of the text has become easier to understand, or something similar. Am I right? Assuming I am, I can also only assume that it would only apply to you because the books have bonded with us, or to us, as individuals and I didn't notice any changes with mine. I don't believe Aiden did either." Walter glances at Aiden as his name gets mentioned before turning back to the books and continuing to speak, gesturing almost wildly, but in a "containted" area as his intuition continues to tie things together and add more questions to the mix, "Come to think of it, we don't really know if these things are going to act like parasites - detrimental or supportive of us - or if they're more like witch's supposed familiars. When we've got the time I'm going to want to sit down with both of you and figure this out." Here Walter pauses for a breath and holds up his hand asking for silence while he gathers his thoughts. "She was holding that scrap. If it beefed up your grimoire in some way, it's possible that she knew more than she was letting on, or that she just didn't get a chance to explain it all. If she was attempting to use whatever was written down in defense of herself, logic would dictate that your book has absorbed whatever ability was written and is now yours to control. Be cautious, we don't know where any of this power comes from or what it will take from us to sustain itself. I've used it more than either of you, I think, but from now on it might be best if we use it all as sparingly as possible. But I'm rambling now. What else might be of interest here?" Walter flicks his hand out towards the creature and a brief flash of dark red is accompanied by a spear of light. "Begone foul demon!" Walter yells at whatever it is in front of them and then turns to the others with a wide grin, "I've always wanted to say that." Attack vs Touch AC: 1d20 ⇒ 1
