Sensing the man's darker nature, Vorik moves toward Vlad as Natty heads up stairs. He starts to whisper a warning to the others, but follows Coramus' lead as the man seems to have already discovers more tangible evidence.
Placing his hand on his hammer Vorik nods, "Aye, you're days of holding power over these poor folk are at an end. We're bringing an end to banditry in these parts." With an eye on Natty and one on the tavern keeper and his woman he continues. "Those who have commited banditry and surrender peacefully will be treated fair. Those who choose to fight will be sent straight to the pits of the abyss."
"You a darkness in your heart Natty, but you haven't given yourself fully to evil. You've a choice to make now. What'll it be Natty?" He adds as he slowly draws Astridsonior.

Vorik dismounts and follows Vlad into the bar, stopping just inside the door. "Aye the weather has taken a nasty turn." Vorik says with a slight growl. "It's nice to find a dry spot to rest before we continue our work."
He briefly turns to Ethelson. "In fact, with this kind of weather we may want a room for a night or two."
With a slight bow to Tulnov, Vorik focuses his attention on the man trying to sense if the man poses a threat. "Vorik Torgrimson." He says. "It's nice to find a warm fire, a pint, and a decent meal out here in the wild as you say."
Detect evil on Tulnov.

With the rain pouring down Vorik listens as Vlad and Coramus engage the man in conversation. With a frown at the man's answers, he begins to concentrate further. Watching him carefully for evidence of his true nature.

Vorik chuckles at Vlad's remark and then moves out with the others toward the Crossroads.

With the fight over, Vorik moves the corpses a short distance from camp and then attempts to get a few more hours of rest before the night is over.

Sorry, I've not been posting as often. Work and home life have been crazy busy this last couple of months. Hopefully things will calm down a little by mid-month and I can be more active.
Male Human Paladin 3, HP: 26/26, AC: 16(18), Fort: +6, Ref: +3, Will: +6 (Horse HP:17 /17)
Standing aside quietly while Vlad takes the lead, Vorik listens intently to Fluene's story and his information. His interest turns more intent as he describes his last visit to the crossroads. "Hrmm. I don't like the fact they seem to be gathering potions and charms. It's all likely funneling right to this man who calls himself Bandit Lord, or whatever. My guess is the good folk have loved ones held hostage or they simply feel alone and scared with no choice but to serve these cruel men."
He bows slightly to Fluene, "My thanks for this information, you can rest your mind that we'll not share your name. But more importantly, we'll soon see that these scoundrels are either driven from this land or dead."
Responding to Vlad, he nods his agreement. "Is everyone set for supplies, or should we swing back through Oleg's before heading south?"
Male Human Paladin 3, HP: 26/26, AC: 16(18), Fort: +6, Ref: +3, Will: +6 (Horse HP:17 /17)
Vorik shrugs slightly, "Only one way to find out I suppose." He says to Hrafen. Then dismounts and walks toward the door.
"Hello!" He shouts toward the building. "Hello, in the cabin. Is anyone there?"
Male Human Paladin 3, HP: 26/26, AC: 16(18), Fort: +6, Ref: +3, Will: +6 (Horse HP:17 /17)
"Aye, twas a lovely evening." Vorik says, sharing the others delight around an uneventful night. Once back on the trail he does his best to spot any new dangers or trouble.
Examining the trail, he frowns for a few seconds and then gazes off to the northeast. "Hrmmm. Looks like it heads off toward Bokken's hut. Perhaps the old wizard uses this route to trade or gather some of his herbs and magical ingredients."

Not finding anything else of interest, Vorik follows the others back out of the cavern after saying a short prayer for the robed victim of the spider.
"Well," He says turning to the others while dusting his breeches, "I hope those creatures aren't common to the area, but I guess we'll soon find out. Shall we continue on our way?"
Male Human Paladin 3, HP: 26/26, AC: 16(18), Fort: +6, Ref: +3, Will: +6 (Horse HP:17 /17)
Vorik smiles at Vlad, "I just finished it off. You and Hrafen did most of the work." The paladin moves to the edge of the sinkhole and starts to ready his rope. "It looks like we'll need to climb a bit to search this creature's nest."
He works carefully to secure the rope and slowly drops into the spiders lair.
Take 20 to secure rope and climb down.
Male Human Paladin 3, HP: 26/26, AC: 16(18), Fort: +6, Ref: +3, Will: +6 (Horse HP:17 /17)

Vorik shakes his head lightly, easily pushing off the magic that tried to seduce him. Seeing the movement in the bushes he raises his hammer and quickly moves in. "Beware the foul magic friends!" With a nod to Hrafen, "I smell it as well." He says.
Not wishing to risk his horse on the rough terrain, he dismounts and begins moving toward the thicket. Shield and hammer ready.

"Aye, it would be nice to clear out this Stag Lord once and for all." Vorik says with a nod toward Coramus. "However, we've a duty to secure this whole region. Charging deeper south could leave other threats to our rear. Threats that could mean trouble for those back at Oleg's or other travelers." He pulls out his map and runs a finger along the unexplored areas to the east and west. "Hrafen and Vlad have the right of it. We should finish our survey and clearing of these lands nearer to home before focusing further south."
"Besides." He adds with a grim look to the dead bandits. "Perhaps we'll continue to carve away at his forces by drawing them out in small groups. I'd much rather meet them on our terms rather than charging the walls of his fortress."
Male Human Paladin 3, HP: 26/26, AC: 16(18), Fort: +6, Ref: +3, Will: +6 (Horse HP:17 /17)
Vorik dismounts and steps behind the bandit and binds his hands. As he does so he turns to the others, "This man has already given his soul over to evil. Even under the threat of death he speaks lies and boasts of his evil deeds. I'd not trust his oath even if it was freely given."
His voice is stern, angry, and touched with a bit of pity and sadness as he continues, this time speaking to the bandit. "You are charged with acts of murder and banditry. For these crimes you are subject to the punishment of either maiming, banishment, or death depending on what my peers determine as a just punishment. For my vote, I would see you hang and to the Abyss with your foul soul."
He turns to the rest of the group, "What say you?"

Detect Evil on the bandits
Vorik scowls as he listens to the bandit. For some reason this one seemed different from the others that had renounced their ways back at Oleg's. Keeping silent he focuses his energy to see if there is anything worth saving in this case. Although, the more the man talks, Vorik's scowl deepens and his inclination toward mercy grows less and less.
Male Human Paladin 3, HP: 26/26, AC: 16(18), Fort: +6, Ref: +3, Will: +6 (Horse HP:17 /17)
With the bandits quick surrender, Vorik checks his next swing and instead growls at the man. "I've a good notion who you are. More followers of this so called Bandit Lord we've heard about." He turns and spits on the ground near the man's feet. "We've already sent a fair number of your fellows to the pits of the Abyss. Now you've a choice as to whether you'll join them or not."
He glares at the man, anger filling his eyes. "You'll answer our questions or hang for the murderers and bandits you clearly are."

With the trap sprung, Vorik kicks his mount forward, following Vlad. He swings in to split the two bandits and attempts to bring his hammer down hard on enemy nearest the tower.

Vorik looks off to the south after hearing the voice, but he doesn't have a good sense of where the man's exact location. Holding his mount steady and quiet, he continues to wait for the bandits to show themselves.

Vorik nods at Wren's response and then shrugs. "Aye, this is as good a place as any to fight." He says. Then pulling his shovel back out he starts to dig. "It'll likely take them a few hours to get here. Might as well dig a few pits or trenches for a little cover and to help funnel them where we want. Anyone have any preferences on position or tactics?"
Male Human Paladin 3, HP: 26/26, AC: 16(18), Fort: +6, Ref: +3, Will: +6 (Horse HP:17 /17)
Wiping the sweat from his brow, Vorik finishes a quick prayer to the gods for the fallen man's soul. Then he turns to the others as they continue to prepare for an encounter with the bandits. "Aye, we can go ahead and light the fire."
He scans the surrounding landscape again, noticing the distance that he can see, and thus be seen as well. "But there is the chance we'll attract something more than just bandits. Does anyone know how to set a few snares or other simple traps that might slow down other predators who might be drawn to the blaze?"
Male Human Paladin 3, HP: 26/26, AC: 16(18), Fort: +6, Ref: +3, Will: +6 (Horse HP:17 /17)
While the others search the tower, Vorik works to finish burying the remains. Every few minutes he takes a moment to scan the countryside for any sign that the bandits are returning.

Vorik dismounts and steps up with the others. With a deep scowl he reads the poem and nods his agreement with Hrafen. "Perhaps it's time we dealt with them."
He then grabs a shovel from his pack and starts working on a grave for the dead man. As he does so he thinks on Wren's question. "Could be they use it as a signal fire." He suggests.

The night before
Vorik looks at Wren's hunting success and offers her a wide grin. "Many thanks. A fine bit of hunting indeed." He says. Then turns to Vlad and Hrafen, "It seems we are quite fortunate to have another fine lady hunter join our party."
At the bridge
Looking at the bridge with a critical eye, Vorik shakes his head slightly. "I'm not sure I'll be able to make it across, mount or no mount. That looks pretty weak. But if there's trouble I'll trust to the gods and cross." He then dismounts and draws his hammer, ready to defend this side of the bridge or charge across if necessary.
Male Human Paladin 3, HP: 26/26, AC: 16(18), Fort: +6, Ref: +3, Will: +6 (Horse HP:17 /17)
That works. We definitely don't want Vorik on his own for watch if it can be helped. ;)

"Aye, it good to see we've done a bit of good at least." Vorik says looking over the blooming countryside. "Hard to believe just a few weeks ago this area was plagued by bandits and goblins. Of course, now the hard work of actually keeping the peace is just beginning."

"The fae were mostly harmless." Vorik says responding to Wren, "A tiny dragon and grigg. Playful." He chuckles lightly remembering the antics of the two. "Played a harmless prank or two before we caught on and offered them a little gold, silver and ale. Although if we go back through that area, we'll need something new to offer."
Nodding to Coramus the big paladin pats the warhammer hanging at his side. "Astridsonior and I are tend to be in the thick of it whenever possible. Likely won't change that much as I'm a horrible shot with a bow...or anything else for that matter."
He pushes back from the table and starts to clear his dishes, "As for the bandits, Vlad's right. We've reformed some. Simply dealt with others." He waves toward the tents and folks working beyond Oleg's walls. "All of them have sworn oaths and are now a vital part of our little community. However, we've yet to work our way far enough south to root out the Stag Lord himself." He points out the location Kressle gave as the bandit leader's fort. "Kressle said he's set up somewhere around here, so once we're ready it shouldn't be too hard to find him."

Male Human Paladin 3, HP: 26/26, AC: 16(18), Fort: +6, Ref: +3, Will: +6 (Horse HP:17 /17)
Vorik looks up as the strangers arrive and introduce themselves. He smiles brightly as Vladimir makes introductions and offers a simple bow to both Glenrenil and Coramus.
He laughs lightly at Wren's comment and then gives a quick nod to the wolf standing next to her. "Vorik is fine, miss. And it seems you've already got good company with that fine looking friend at your side."
Sipping from his mug of ale he adds, "Glad to have you both along for tomorrow's ride. We've become a little short handed, but despite that we've managed some success."
He pulls out his copy of the map and lays it out on the table. Pointing out several locations as he speaks. "We just returned from a sweep to the east where we intervened in a struggle between some kobolds and mites. We've managed a bit of an alliance with kobolds for now. Rooted out a bandit camp just south of Oleg's and restored a Temple to Ole Deadeye a little further back in the woods." He looks to Vlad and Hrafen. "Have I left anything important out?"
Male Human Paladin 3, HP: 26/26, AC: 16(18), Fort: +6, Ref: +3, Will: +6 (Horse HP:17 /17)
I've not heard anything either. Too bad.
As for recruiting, we could probably use a ranger/druid type to cover what we lost with Jaestra. We haven't had a cleric for ages, but might be handy if we start running into any undead. Other than that, whoever has a good backstory and hooks would be fine by me. It'd be great to get a female character or two for a little gender balance given the sandbox/settler/kingdom building type of campaign.
Just my two cents.

Vorik enjoys the meal and the obvious joy that the finding of their ring has brought Oleg and Svetlana. Thanking Oleg for the offer, he selects his two potions and stores them carefully and then is ready to ride out the next morning after restocking his travel supplies and rations. Including a bit more of Oleg's ale for his flask.
Potions Selected: Cure Light Wounds, Magic Weapon

Vorik, nods at Vladimir's suggestions. "Aye, if we follow the Thorn to the Shrike and then circle east we should be able to cover a good section of land fairly easily. Assuming time and supplies permit, we could continue on north back up to Bokken's."
He looks to Jaestra and Hrafen as he pours a cup of Oleg's ale and takes a sip. "Are we agreed?"
Male Human Paladin 3, HP: 26/26, AC: 16(18), Fort: +6, Ref: +3, Will: +6 (Horse HP:17 /17)
"Knowledge can be a powerful tool when put to good use. It is good that you have learned its value." Vorik says, then adds with a gentle smile, "Although perhaps next time the lesson will come easier."
"Your offer and maps are appreciated. You can be sure if we have the need we'll send word. Good luck to you on your new path."
Once Ethan has left Vorik turns to the others, "So where shall we go next? We've covered most of the lands nearest to Oleg's. Shall we push our explorations further south?"
Male Human Paladin 3, HP: 26/26, AC: 16(18), Fort: +6, Ref: +3, Will: +6 (Horse HP:17 /17)
Vorik nods his own thanks for the reward and then waits to hear Ethan's response.
Sorry was traveling for work, should be able to keep up better now.

Vorik's face turns a bright shade of red for several seconds. He starts to speak a couple of times, but no sound escapes the paladin's lips. By the time his head finally clears of the immediate visions initiated by Jaestra's comment, all he can do is let out a laugh, shake his head, and ride to catch up with the Jaestra and the others.

"Courage and strength to you as well, Mikmek. I am honored to count the Sootscale among my friends." Vorik says as the kobold departs.
"Shall we ride for Oleg's? I could certainly use a warm meal, hot bath, and soft bed for a day or two." Vorik says to the others after Mikmek has left. "Plus we'll need to see if he can store all those Links." He adds with a laugh while climbing into the saddle.
Male Human Paladin 3, HP: 26/26, AC: 16(18), Fort: +6, Ref: +3, Will: +6 (Horse HP:17 /17)
Vorik nods his agreement with Vlad's statement and follows him into the shaman's chamber.
"Beware of traps." He says as they enter the shaman's cave. "Tartuk, didn't strike me as being one to leave his belongings unprotected." He adds while straining his eyes in the dimly lit cave to see anything that might be trouble.

Vorik gives Mikmek a hardy clap on the back and a large smile. Before giving the chief a respectful bow and warm smile of his own.
"Aye, 'tis a fine choice, and I'm proud to call Mikmek and the Sootscale friends and allies." He says, then adds with a hearty laugh. "Seems to me this new alliance and defeat of evil, calls for a bit of a celebration."
After rummaging in his pack for a few seconds he pulls out his flask filled with Oleg's ale.
"Lets share a bit of Master Oleg's ale to seal the bargain." He says taking a solid drink for himself before handing the flask to Mikmek and the Chief.
