Family History: Voran has twin brother. When they were younger Voran got in a bit of trouble with the authorities. He told his brother he was getting out of town and he wanted him to come. His brother though was an honorable sort, and instead turned himself in to the authorities and took the fall for Voran. As punishment, Voran's brother was sent to serve at a Fort Rennick in hopes of reforming him. Voran's brother apparently thrived there. Voran on the other hand didn't learn of his brother's actions until later to which he has felt guilt about since.
Personality: Voran is extremely self-centered and doesn't care about anyone but himself, with the sole exception of his brother who he cares about deeply. But Voran isn't an idiot, and knows that you have to work with others in order to survive. So he acts very civil to others, but is quite willing to do despicable things if necessary. (Voran is NE.)
Note: I took undetectable alignment, so in case someone else wants to play an anti-evil class. Voran isn't stupid evil, so it is quite likely that he'll be able to function in a group even with a paladin if necessary.
Also I took Jack of All Trades feat since it is on the d20srd.org site, I linked it on my profile.
I'm back now. I am thinking about giving it another week to see if Patricio is able to get back on the boards and start posting. If we don't hear from him, I'll probably drop out.
Well if Patricio is able to start posting again in the next few days, I am going to be out of town. So feel free to NPC my character if I'm not back. Voran will probably draw his loaded crossbow, but will try to avoid a fight.
"Not really. Just some personal correspondences of our friend and his family. Looks like the poor fellow has been down on his luck for a while. Might be worthwhile to see if he'd be willing to join us. We might be able to help him back on his feet."
Voran will not mention the possibility of treasure to his companions, he'll leave that up to the begger if he so chooses.
Voran strokes his beard thoughtfully. "I don't see any reason to damage this good fellow's home than necessary. Though it is nice to know we might be able to escape this way if we get cornered." Voran will then move over to the bed and see if there is anything interesting there to help him learn about the poor begger and how he came to such a condition.
ilumination from the area you are now allows no opportunity to see what in the other are there is. Only characters with darkvision have the chance to see.
You forget the powers of a low-light gifted gnome with dancing lights!
Voran will move to the crack and direct one of the dancing lights to pass through it illuminating the area beyond.
Voran casts dancing lights (the four torch version) and moves them around the back of the area. "These lights will only last for about a minute, so take a good look."
"Wellll ... it sure is kind of dark in here. Anybody want me to make some light for minute or so? Or would you prefer not to see what the place really looks like?"
"You can carry my walking stick for the time being if you feel too naked. I noticed you didn't have a weapon on you."
Small club = 1d4 damage, can be thrown with 10 ft range increment, -2 penalty on attacks for medium creatures using it who use it as a light weapon, it's better than nothing I guess
"You are quite welcome, though I deserve no credit for it. I was merely the vessel for Garl's power to pass through. My own abilities are quite trivial by comparison."
"Ah, ok, well that makes sense. Perhaps later we can approach the authorities and inform them of the incident. People should not be assaulted while walking down the road."
"Why did we run? We did nothing wrong. Those fellas attacked us, we should go to the authorities and explain the situation. I am sure they will understand complete."
Also, though I didn't say this since we seemed to rush out of there, Voran would have picked up his walking stick as they were leaving.
"May the Watchful Protector aid you." Voran says as he lightly touches Tobol casting cure light wounds (convert identify) on him. Tobol is healed: 1d8+1=8
Then Voran, looking around Tobol at the half-orc. "Now my friend, you have obviously bitten off more than you and your friend could chew. Now we've given you enough warning. Back down now and we won't have to give you a good thrashing."
I'm going to be out of town for the next couple of days, I don't know how far you'll get but here are my plans as of right now for the next two rounds.
Spoiler:
2nd round: Load light crossbow and either cast a cure light wounds (converting identify) on "Man" or Tobol if either is hurt or if neither is hurt cast Shield of Faith on Tobol.
3rd round: If the foes are still active, Voran will cast ghost sound (Will DC 12). 30 ft down the lane the party had just come from and try to bluff the foes that four city guards are coming to aid the party.
"Ah look here are the guards now." Bluff Check: 1d20+6=26
"Yes, we are all going to follow you, please lead the way my friend." Looking back at the amnesic man being distracted, "Tobol, could you grab our friend and drag him away from the ... ladies."
Voran will stop and say, "Charity is never a distraction, but a duty and a joy." He will then take a trail ration out of his pack and give it to the begger. "I am sorry it is not big, it was made for one of my size, but may the blessings of the Watchful Protector make it enought to satisfy your hunger for the moment.
Can you help us, we are looking for a group of hunters that are suppose to live in this area?"
Voran will keep his walking stick (club) handy, just in case someone decides to act inappropriately. Voran will also keep his other hand glued firmly to his own money pouch.
Voran strides into the guard post and says, "We need some aid. My friend was burgled by a halfling and we need the thief caught." Turning to Gulgrym, "You said you saw the fellow, please give these officers a description of him."
"You've been thieved? We should seek the authorities immediately! Uncivilized behavior like that can not be tolerated and brushed aside. What if instead of a healthy fellow like our friend here, it had been some sick desperate person and those were the last coins he had to buy bread with? Come lets find someone that knows where the authorities can be found and give them a description of the fellow." Voran will then stride out of the door and start asking random people where to find the nearest city guard station.
"I also think that trying to find the people that found our friend would be the most fruitful. Especially since the cobbler said he sold his shoes many places. I have no interest in running around speaking to a bunch of people until my own shoes need replacing."
Voran pulls out a silver piece and moves to give it to the cobbler, "For your time and trouble my friend. We would be most gracious if you could tell us anything you know about our friend here. Also if there is anything we can do to aid you, just ask."
Voran seems quite chearful today. He is wide awake and his mind is clear thanks to the praying he did in the morning. He also listens to his new companions as they talk and eat. He himself says a prayer of thanks to The Priceless Gem for the wealth he has in order to pay for a meal and a place to stay.
After a time of eating he speaks up as well, "Yes, I am quite looking forward to see this wonderous city. I have tales that it is a place of great adventure and with the aid of The Sparkling Wit I know we will be able to find plenty of chance for profit and chances to aid those in need, such as our forgetful friend here. Let us finish up and go, adventure is around every corner."
EDIT: As the party moves through the city, Voran is sure to make comments to any gnomes he sees as to the fact that Garl is caring for them. He may also give a few coppers (he only has a total of 6) away if there are any gnome children around, especially if they do a trick using their innate spell-like abilities (ghost sound, dancing lights, or prestidigitation).
"Now, now my good fellow. Of course you have had a trying experience. Let's all be calm a moment and think." Says a gnome dressed as a cleric of Garl. "Now, you don't remember anything, you say. Do you know what year it is? Or what city you are in? Does anything seem familiar to you? Possibly even anything you may think is insignificant? Please think on it a moment. My name is Voran by the way."
Voran turns to the sergeant, "If we can not get anything of significance from this poor fellow, perhaps we should go and see where he was found. There may be some clue left there, that one of us might see that you and your men missed. And it might be a good idea to bring our friend here to see if it helps him remember anything. Did he have any gear on him of significance? Weapons? Rings? Symbols of faith?"
What you prefer? continue with the dialogue in the inn or moving directly towards the temple and make your heal cheack?
I'm fine either way, though I think some of the others would like to "push" the sergeant a little more for info (where was the victim found, how was he dressed, was anyone else around, etc). If we speak a little longer Voran will try to diplomize whatever extra info we can get from the sergeant, taking a 10, diplomacy 16. Also sense motive to see if the sergeant is being truthful, again taking a 10 it would be a 16.
But if we decide to move on instead, I'm perfectly fine with that. Voran just wants to get everyone going to see the hurt fellow in the most comfortable fashion possible. DM's decision.
Voran appeared ready to stride out of the room at that moment, but then seeing Aravilar getting his gear, Voran stops. "Ah, right. Well we don't want to go unprepared. Danger and all that." He then moves to retrieve his gear as well.
Voran Brighthelm is finally starting to truly awaken. "Someone is hurt? Why are we wasting our time speaking? Come my friends, let us be on our way, and the good officer can tell us what is important as we go. Obviously the Watchful Protector placed me in this position to give aid, and you my new friends to help." The brightness returns to the gnome's eyes as he gets more impassioned during his comments.
