Dear Paizo,

Is it possible for you to provide alternative downloads of pdfs that do not contain the "pretty" backgrounds. I am using an android based ipad and the rendering time is killing me! The pages render great but they would render faster if they were not so art heavy. Many other pdfs that I have do not render as slow as yours. (But many do not have the great art that you provide.)

I would like to see just the background art removed not the graphics of the wonderful title art, character pictures, or creatures. It seems the few programs that render pdf files for viewing in Android cannot handle the backgrounds. The size of the pdf is not a problem but the graphic intensive backgrounds reduce the rendering time of one page to almost 30 seconds each page. I know Adobe Acrobat 9 can remove backgrounds from pdf files but your pdfs are DRM'd, and does not allow the end user to remove them. I agree you should protect your content.

I can only hope this is made possible, cause I don't think I can wait for the technology to get cheap enough for all of us to enjoy a quad core tablet that renders as fast as a laptop, just so I can read the rulebooks.

Edit....Yes.....I could just read the actual books (which I own at least one copy of each, and many of the Adv Paths) but traveling with all of them is like carrying around a 2 year old.... :P

Ok here is a help wanted ad...

I need help in making a warforged PC in HeroLab....

Has anyone tried this yet? Can you help me?

I have browsed the Help Files and its just not clicking....

Thanks in advance...:)

I saw Rise of the Runelords selling on Amazon for $774!

I was speachless...Is this real?

Why is this so High? I think it is a great adventure path but I didnt think the value would climb to such heights...

Any comments??

I would pay $50 bucks just to see what Paizo comes up with!!!

Even if I never run a Modern genre game!!!

there are a couple of options to have armor DR instead of +ac. what made you decide this kind of a houserule is necessary for your game? need fore more realism? game balance? if you explain the notion behind this houseruling, i think people can give better feedback and opinions.

I chose to try this house rule after a few players from different games told me that it was "unreal" for someone with a dagger or club to really hurt someone wearing plate mail. Armor does absorb alot of dmg if a weapon of poor quaulity or size is not used effectively. Even a mage with no training can use a battleaxe and cleave a knight in armor with one lucky blow. So after much thought and contemplation, we decided to try this...

Below is a house rule I have been using and I would like some feedback or ideas on it.

HOUSE RULE:
All armor DR (Damage Reduction)is equal to the armor class bonus by type. (I.E. Half Plate has a +8 AC bonus, giving it a DR 8)

If the armor DR is greater than dmg dealt(dice plus bonuses to dmg), than the minimum dmg taken is always 2 HP.

(for example- A fighter wearing half plate (DR8) gets hit by a dagger, doing 5 points of dmg. The fighter will take 2 HP of dmg per hit.)

If the damage die (or dice) used for the weapon totals higher than the DR of the armor, it will automatically bypass the DR. (i.e. If a paladin with a war hammer (1d8 = 8) hits a fighter wearing chainmail (DR 4) the war hammer will bypass the armors DR; but if the paladin, wearing full plate (DR 9), gets hit by the longsword(1d8= 8) of the fighter, than the paladins armor will absorb up to 9 points of dmg from the hit. The paladin will take the default 2 HP and fight on! The fighter better get a bigger weapon!

Magical Armors provides no extra bonus to DR! Monsters not wearing armor do not get a DR (with a few exceptions, dragons, Huge creatures, golems, etc. Theses excepptions will be up to the DM to rule on, on a case by case basis.)

NOTE: In my campaign all Compound Bows (Short, Long, Great) & Crossbows (Hand, Light, Heavy, Great) will negate the DR in all armor type, but not the magical bonus. This balances out the DR of

RPG's are mostly reference books. These types of books do not translate well when using a kindle or any other ereader. (I have a sony ereader BTW.)The only thing I use my pdf books on is a netbook with acrobat. This allows me to search and have multiple books open for reference, notes, etc.

Few if any RPG Manuals are written in a form that is fluid enough to be read comfortably on an ereader. Until E-Readers get better in terms of tech. They are only good for reading "traditionally" written text.

if a rogue uses a wand of produce flame does he need one standard action to trigger the wand and another to make the touch attack? How about a ranged touch attack?

if a ranger buys a wand of resist energy, does he need to declare what type of energy at the time of purchase? For example does he buy a wand of resist fire, or does he get to declare which type of energy when he uses it.

"Ranged Touch attacks are made as part of the spell and do not require a seperate action." pg186 PFRPG. under Ranged Touch Spells in Combat.

I would like to thank everyone in the community for their opinions.

I appreciate the support from the DEV's at Herolab coming onto the boards and giving their 2 cents. If this is the type of support they give for their product, I will to give it a try. I have been a big fan of ArmyBuilder for years, and I am glad to see their efforts being spent on other parts of the gaming biz.

Thanks again everyone. Long Live Pathfinder!

Try the link above for the introductory rules to D&D 4e. Let me know if I can help.

Don't hold back, let the kids dictate how much they want to learn. The new 4th edition of D&D has a starter module and starter rules on their website. Or use Paizo's setting, its great! and the same applies start out slowly and let them get a feel for the basics. They might surprise you.

I play with 3 of my 4 children; ages 15,9,7; and they have'nt missed a beat. If your students are "gifted" they should not have a problem picking it up. Just start out slowly with basic rules and work your way up from there. I am sure pretty soon they will be running the game, then you could play!

I must commend you on having such a open approach to using rpg's as a tool for learning. I had a fifth grade teacher (1983) who started me on my lifelong trek through role playing games. Thanks for teaching the next generation that gaming is about people, not points on a screen.

Feats --- PC's can only select a maximum of 3 feats from "other" rulebook (non-PF) for the lifetime of the character. You can exchange feats as 4e allows (at level up) including these 3 feats. You can use any non-PF books. Commonly we use:
All of the Eberron books
Paths of Faith, Magic, Sword, & Shadow;
Spell Compendium
Book of Eldritch Might
Exp. Psionics Handbook
Green Ronin Books
Malhavoc Press Books
This keeps a cap on too many feats from maxing out builds but still allows enough freedom for some pc's to reach some great feat combo's.

Spells --- Using the following resources: Spell Compendium, All Eberron books, Book of Eldritch Might, Path of Magic, Expanded Psionics Handbook. These are all available with the DM's approval per spell.

I have been looking into 3 programs to use for Pathfinder.HeroLab, RPGXplorer, & PCGen. I was curious as to what the community is using and what they think of these programs?

I am throwing my hat in for Psionics. I would love to see it worked up to fit into the new 3.5 ruleset. Having it integrated into the game as Eberron did into its campaign setting is what I would like but a supplement would do just fine (HINT).
