Liberty's Edge

Quick question before I begin gathering something together. It'll affect the path I take with my submission.

Would you allow me to overlook the age/race prereq on Breadth of Experience? I could take the adopted trait for no other reason than to allow this to flavorfully make sense. Once I know, I think I know what I'll do.

EDIT: And it's to be a half-elf. Nothing too special or silly.

Same! I would just need to throw a character together, but I have plenty of ideas...

I was out for pretty much the whole day yesterday, so I was afraid I was holding people up. While I'm relieved I wasn't, I can't wait for things to get underway again.

Horatio needs to save the party by playing in a violin contest against a Pit Fiend. Just saying. We have a pit fiend that's a running joke in our games at home... His name is Buddy, but that's a whole other story.

My decision to go Paladin was inspired by reading a little thing called 'The Powder Keg of Justice', if you haven't read it, I encourage you to give it a read. Google it and it's a 1d4 chan article.

My decision to go Archer was influenced by A) How awesome Paladins are at archery (I mean, what's scarier than a volley of smiting arrows?) and B) I've noticed that archer characters are exceedingly rare.

I'm with Olivius there. At low levels it's not great mechanically, but it is awesome RP-wise, and with 8 of us we can afford to sacrifice some power to meet those ends. :P

My eyes can't be of much use to you, I've only been finding something close and shooting it every round. I would have more use if I were a level or two higher, I promise. Haha

For whatever it's worth, the warchanter I shot took another point of damage on its turn.

Upset with how close her arrow had came to making a clean kill, she knew the warchanter would bleed to death in a matter of seconds. She turns her attention to the goblin [Goblin 9] immediately beside it using a normal arrow this time.

Yeah, even with what time I've had, I still just get an itch for more.

With all of my characters, I plan every mechanical move they make from level 1 to 20 when I create them. I also give them a history far more detailed than I care to write and a very specific look that I only emulate with pictures. Character building is my favorite thing... Ever pretty much. I have a hard time playing any game that isn't a role playing game because of one little thing called...

Customization. I live for it. Everything I do that simply free time revolves around it. Even things that aren't free time, I incorporate it all. Role playing has been the only way (save music) for me to truly customize things precisely how I want them. No more, no less. It is quite sad really. I do large mathematical equations and come up with formulas all to describe some fantasy or another I've come up with (you should see my formula for calculating average damage with a weapon in D&D, it took over an hour to derive. On a related note, if you have power attack, you should ALWAYS use it for damage purposes, no matter what). All while my math homework collects dust.

It's quite sad, and I apologize for ranting. Haha.

Well, I starting playing D&D 3e in 6th grade. I'm not 21, so I've went through a lot of phases. My first character was a human fighter. With a headband. That headband was this fighter's entire characterization. Fast forward high school. Power game. Yep, let's see if we can build a 10th level party that can take down the tarrasque. Check and mate.

Now that I'm in college, I actually care more about the roleplaying than the power, though I do balance the two. My 'Jack' character is me power-gaming the roleplaying aspect. Hahaha

Liberty's Edge

Female Chelaxian Human Perc +1, Init +6, AC 18 / T 14 / F-F 14, CMD 17 (19 v Trips)

It's also very flavorful. I have a non-gestalt character that goes by the name of Jack. He's in a homebrew pirate game my friend has going on at home. I'm planning on taking 3 levels rogue and 2 levels alchemist as his first 5 levels. Standard rogue, and vivisectionist/mindchemist alchemist. 20 starting intelligence with a plan to go duelist later. Threw in Breadth of Experience and suddenly you have a super-genius pirate with rapier abilities unmatched. He's so much fun. Rogues and alchemists work wonders together.

Oh, and the +12 to untrained knowledge checks helps too. ;)

Liberty's Edge

Female Chelaxian Human Perc +1, Init +6, AC 18 / T 14 / F-F 14, CMD 17 (19 v Trips)

That would probably work better than staggering rogue/ninja, honestly. Staggering bandit/vivisectionist would be just as nuts, with the extra perk of alchemy. :P

EDIT: Of course, that assumes you don't interpret the vivisectionist sneak attack in such a way that gestalting it gives no extra sneaky dice.

Liberty's Edge

Female Chelaxian Human Perc +1, Init +6, AC 18 / T 14 / F-F 14, CMD 17 (19 v Trips)

Haha. That is unfortunate. Still level/d6 sneak attack is handy either way.

Liberty's Edge

Female Chelaxian Human Perc +1, Init +6, AC 18 / T 14 / F-F 14, CMD 17 (19 v Trips)

Yeah, high level paladin's smiting can get pretty ridiculous. That's why I prefer the archer paladin. More full attacks, and most of the arrows are at full BAB. (Out of 6 arrows at level 16+, 3 are at full. Heck, at level 7 when this character would get Many Shot, 3 out of 4 arrows fired at full BAB. Slap another on for when I have speed or haste)

If you're playing gestalt though, stagger rogue and ninja levels. Start with a level of fighter/rogue, then go ninja/rogue. At level 20 you'll have 20d6 sneak attack. Throw on improved unarmed strike/sap adept/sap master/knockout artist and the twf tree and an agile/speed amulet of mighty fists with the bandit archetype and bam, you're tossing around 8d3+320d6+960+(8 times dexterity modifier) damage in a surprise round if all attacks connect. Heck, if you can convince your DM that your hands are concealed, then you max out the 320d6 for a nice clean 8d3+2880+(8 times dexterity modifier). That's just abusing gestalt though.

I've done this with/without gestalt to most of the classes. I usually make such a build, then nerf it some for the sake of character and move on with life. Haha.

Victoria moves to get a clear shot at what seemed to be a Goblin caster, chanter, and/or vile version of a bard. Drawing back and letting fly a thistle arrow, she did what she does best.

-------

Move Action: Move to D-9

Standard Action: Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 = 27
Critical Confirm: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 = 15

Critical Damage (if applicable): 3d8 + 9 ⇒ (7, 6, 7) + 9 = 29
Bleed Rounds: 1d6 ⇒ 6

I think this round makes up for my not-so-good round from before. I wish I knew if that was a critical hit or not because, if it was, I would easily write a paragraph detailing that gruesome 29 damage. Haha. Oh, and yes. Warchanter 2.

Liberty's Edge

As Victoria looks on, she mutters to herself "I'm not sure keeping something so evil as a... Pet is such a great idea..."

She decided to wait in the back and watch as the interrogation goes on. She wanted to make sure the people that had helped her here had the right intentions, but didn't want to step in the way of what they were doing. After-all, they're doing it better than she would be able to.

Victoria put away her bow and nodded to Akisame. "One of the nicked me, nothing that won't heal overnight."

She then began collecting the arrows she had shot, including the one in the still breathing goblin. "What do you plan to do with him?"

First Arrow: 1d100 ⇒ 25
Second Arrow: 1d100 ⇒ 1
Third Arrow: 1d100 ⇒ 60

On 51 or above, the arrow is successfully salvaged.

Only one of her arrows made it through the fight, though. The one she shot last.

Liberty's Edge

Oh man, a lot transpired while I was out for the day.

Pavanna; that's absolutely fine. Victoria would jump at the chance to ensure your safety to the White Deer, and would assure Horatio that you would be safe.

Victoria had only just finished shooting the kite when he was approached by the guard from the previous night.

"It's quite alright, Olivius. My name is Victoria. I'm just glad we all made it out of there without grave injury." Then she grinned a bit. "I think we turned out to be a little more than they could handle. I may not be very big..."

Then she watched as the dwarf approached and spoke to Olivius for a moment, then she politely responded to his handshake. "Victoria is my name." Now responding to all parties who have approached, she looks around and smiles to everyone. "It pleases me to meet you all."

It is at about this point that Akisame approaches. Excited to actually see him there, Victoria steps away for a second and responds to him. "It is a much better day than I had expected, I've met the people who helped us last night. This is Pavanna, Olivius, Thirzin, and Souroune. My friends, this is Akisame. He's the man who was with me last night."

I think that covers the social actions directed at me. Let me know if I missed something, I'm not trying to ignore anyone. Haha.

Liberty's Edge

Female Chelaxian Human Perc +1, Init +6, AC 18 / T 14 / F-F 14, CMD 17 (19 v Trips)

"Perhaps we can meet at the festival tomorrow. I'm here to keep my eyes open and the festival should prove less... Violent." She spoke to Akisame before going back to the inn she was originally staying in for the night to sleep.

The next morning, she happy to find herself at the festival, though she prepared herself with all of her combat equipment this time. Though she wore her robes over her armor, she wore her hood down. Seeing some of the games, she decided to give a few a shot.

The first she decided to try was The Sandpoint Devil.

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Only just missing her mark, politely asking for a second attempt, she took it. If she missed again, she would just give up. She loved archery, and she can normally hit targets like these. Usually, though, there's aren't so many distractions.

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

She nailed the target with a clean shot. This shot was a much better display of her abilities, she though. Smiling, she bowed her head and moved on.

Then she thought that maybe a game of Hide and Seek would be fun, though she was hoping she had spotted Akisame by this time.

Liberty's Edge

Sheathing her longsword, Victoria listened to the officer, giving a slight bow with her head. "Thank you, officer."

She then turned to Akisame, she spoke relatively quietly. "Not sure I quite expected this much drama for the night. The evil in the room sickened me, I should have known better than to come unprepared. Are you alright?"

She was legitimately concerned, though it's obvious that she'd behave in the same way if she felt responsible for putting anyone in harm's way. Especially Akisame. At least he would understand where she was coming from, though.

Liberty's Edge

Female Chelaxian Human Perc +1, Init +6, AC 18 / T 14 / F-F 14, CMD 17 (19 v Trips)

For whatever it may be worth, Victoria isn't putting her weapon away. In fact, she will only delay as long as it takes for Gluck to attack someone. If Gluck makes any motion to attack anyone, Victoria will move to F9 and then to G8 (to avoid an AoO and flank with Thirzin), smite evil, and take him out with both hands on the sword.

Although the Sheriff's words were heard clearly by Victoria, she didn't want Gluck to continuing hurting people. Noro didn't look very well off and few people could take a hit like the brute was dishing out. She readied herself to defend the innocent Noro, or anyone else for that matter, and was prepared to face the consequences of that decision.

Now that one of the assailants had been dropped by her, Victoria decided to strike out at the next one she saw. Unless they surrendered, she would end their attempts on innocent lives. She gripped her sword in both hands and ran down the next thug.

Charge Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

Charge Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Also, for whatever it's worth, I'm continuing to attack the thugs because they're threatening innocent lives. IE the rest of the party. It's the heat of combat, I'm fighting evil. I feel justified in continuing to attack and ignore whoever just barged in. Only clarifying because I'm a paladin and I don't want it to be misconstrued as an evil action.

Alright, time to decide Victoria's actions when it comes to her.

Now that one of the assailants had been dropped by her, Victoria decided to strike out at the next one she saw. Unless they surrendered, she would end their attempts on innocent lives. She gripped her sword in both hands and ran down the next thug.

Full round action: Charge Thug 5
Charge Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 +2 to attack for charging, -1 for using a buckler and wielding a weapon in two hands.

Charge Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

It was a solid hit and it looked like it hurt, but the foul man could probably still fight through it. Unfortunately.

Liberty's Edge

Female Chelaxian Human Perc +1, Init +6, AC 18 / T 14 / F-F 14, CMD 17 (19 v Trips)

Going ahead and taking my AoO now. :D

AoO: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

While her first attack was less than impressive, her opponent left himself open. He just asked for the backswing. Taking the opportunity, Victoria cut into the thug. And deep.

Liberty's Edge

Female Chelaxian Human Perc +1, Init +6, AC 18 / T 14 / F-F 14, CMD 17 (19 v Trips)

Victoria saw it happening around her. The thug had just missed her with its less than impressive swordsmanship. Drawing her sword, she gave the thug a challenging look as she returned the favor, with less than satisfying results.

It's true, I'm sticking by my decision to only step in if Noro is in trouble. The fact that there is so much evil present in those two individual makes Victoria want to take up arms against them, but she realizes it's a bad idea to do so. It's a lot of speculation being a paladin here. Ha.

Liberty's Edge

Female Chelaxian Human Perc +1, Init +6, AC 18 / T 14 / F-F 14, CMD 17 (19 v Trips)

Victoria is visible sickened and makes no attempt to hide it. Evil is a terrible stench, and she becomes actively worried for Noro. She seems to be handling herself well, but Victoria watches carefully ready to jump in at any time.

Honestly, I'm on the fence about how involved my paladin would want to be here, and I'm unsure of how hard it would be to detect foul play considering how evil the announcer and the opponent happened to be.

Liberty's Edge

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

The place was not exactly nice, and a fight like this wasn't exactly something Victoria liked, but there was no reason to believe it grossly violated her tenets. Unless, of course, Noro got in serious trouble. Then she would step in. Still, she was uncomfortable.

Victoria's eyes glowed as she looked at the big guy. "Akisame, let's sit in the front. I want to make sure nothing goes wrong." She whispers in his ear right before finding her seat.

She takes note of the thugs as well glancing over at them and using her detect evil on them as well.

"Be wary, there are a couple of people watching us." She nods toward the thugs to warn Akisame in a subtle fashion.

-----------------

Victoria detects evil on the big guy before the fight, as well as the thugs.
