Male Human Follower Alias

Posting this in all my games.

I'm currently extremely sick which is hurting my posting. I'll probably be out of commission for the next 5 days or so, so please feel free to bot me in the meantime until I get back to full strength.

Male Human Follower Alias

So ignore the sneak attack discussion and just apply the scorching ray damage. I didn't include SA into my damage purely because at that time of posting, not even I was 100% sure that I fulfilled the requirements (which I now know for sure).I'll still be using scorching ray regardless.

Male Human Follower Alias

If I don't get it, then I don't get it. In the future though, I should be able to SA from range without any problems

Male Human Follower Alias

Victor quietly nukes the closest vampire with more of his fire spells.

Attack vs Touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 6, 5) = 17
If someone is flanking then Victor can get that SA bonus

Male Human Follower Alias

Basically, we know everything about every monster we come accross thanks to Investigator + 50% Wizard

Init: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Knowledge Religion: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22

Seeing as I go before them and I think they are flat footed...

Victor quickly blasts a Scorching Ray in the general direction of the nearest enemy.

Attack vs Touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Damage: 4d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 1, 2) + (4, 3) = 18
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Additional Damage (I have no idea if SA also doubles): 4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 3) = 13

Male Human Follower Alias

Victor glances at the dusty floor and retracts his earlier idea. "Its true, invisible tricks do not look successful here, unless I cleared the floors with a spell, which I guess limits the purpose of being invisible". Glancing at the trapdoor Cynthia gestures to, Victor frowns at it, before slowly kneeling on the floor as quietly as possible. "I could try and open that door, and/or any trap that lay around it, from a fairly safe distance if required, if we are agreed that this is the way forward".

Male Human Follower Alias

I can do a scouting mission, but boarded up entrances and closed doors are the bane of any invisible scout. I'm totally happy doing some recon though, Victor's generally good at that sort of thing.

Male Human Follower Alias

TBH, the fact he doesn't want to lead us to a location actually makes him more trustworthy, its less likely that he is baiting us into a trap or ambush. Regardless, I think the point is its not entirely clear cut, each of us are playing different characters and reading into the situation different ways. It just so happens that my character doesn't quite believe that there is cause for alarm yet.

Male Human Follower Alias

IC Janus, there is still nothing suspicious about someone heading up to a 'cleric' and asking if they have a cure for poison. Yes, OOC I can probably assume something might be wrong but asking Victor to blow an invisibility spell based on a casual enquiry not unusual to a healer is a bit unusual IMO.

Male Human Follower Alias

At the moment Janus, the poison dude is just purely an enquiry, and he is not suggesting that you go anywhere with him, just checking if you have anything to cure poison. I agree that its suspicious, but as we are not forcing the man to go to any particular location, there's no chance I could invisibly tail him and learn anything before my duration runs out.

Male Human Follower Alias

I wont bother rolling with a negative mod and no skills in Diplomacy.

Male Human Follower Alias

"Sounds very generous of you" Victor remarks casually while privately thinking they would be unlikely to find any members of the Red Mantis unless such members were overly incompetent or aggressive. "I guess hunting the slums would be the best route forward, Janus, I imagine you would be our urban expert, any strategies that might come to mind. I confess, the only thing I can think of that might draw the Red Mantis out is someone acting as bait, but that seems awfully risky."

Male Human Follower Alias

Back from Easter!

Victor listens intently to the discussion between Janus, Cynthia and Flare, but makes no comment. He had never been particularly skillful in creating new objects, and didnt really have much experience solving a humanitarian crisis in the city. What he was good at, was thinking ahead, and planning for eventualities. Victor decides to double check his notes on Vampires and the Red Mantis, so his friends would be prepared if they ever ran into them.

Knowledge Local Red Mantis (Heroism + Heightened Awareness + PBE): 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 2 + 2 + 4 = 22
Knowledge Religion Vampires (Heroism + Heightened Awareness + PBE): 1d20 + 12 + 2 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 12 + 2 + 2 + 4 = 22

Male Human Follower Alias

"I imagine that its more likely that this cult has something over the Red Mantis. As you pointed out, they currently have little to gain if the world ultimately ends. Lets not forget though, that it was the Red Mantis that were initially hunting us, so I feel that its important to tread carefully. Running directly into them is certainly a risk.

Male Human Follower Alias

Wouldn't Thalion get it since iirc he is broke? If not, I'm ok with us spending it / dividing it as we see fit.

Male Human Follower Alias

Victor fires off a Scorching Ray at the captain.

Attack vs Flat Footed Touch AC: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 2 = 22
Damage: 4d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 4, 6) + (4, 4) = 29

Get Rekt

Male Human Follower Alias

I dont mind helping, although it will be limited in what I can do since Victor mostly has utility spells.

Male Human Follower Alias

"The rest of us are back on our ship, this is more of a stealth mission friend". Victor remarks, as he quickly checks if the princess is ok. "I can cast Invisibility on the two of you, plus myself, but if you act aggressively, the spell will break and we will find ourselves surrounded by enemies. So my advice would be to accept the spell, and then make a break for our own ship...it shouldn't be too difficult, as its the ship getting attacked right about now."

Male Human Follower Alias

I presume you meant that Janus strikes her again in the above post, unless you pre rolled Victor's attacks and therefore wouldn't need to wait on me for anything :)

Victor appears from stealth and promptly full attacks the orc guard, from a flanking position.

Surprise Round Attack vs flat: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 2 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + (4, 6) = 12

Init: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

Attack if I beat init: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 2 = 24
Damage: 1d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + (6, 5) = 12

Male Human Follower Alias

If shes still up, I'll have Victor take his attack actions, but only if she survived that attack. Damn Janus is scary on attack!

Male Human Follower Alias

Yeah, feel free to attack her. I'm under the effect of Vanish right now, which has a 5 round duration, so it probably expires shortly anyway but yes, I do have 3 invisibility spells ready for use as required. Most of my spells are utility today precisely for this mission, so anytime I dont need to use a spell to beatdown an enemy is a win in my book.

Male Human Follower Alias

I'm a little unclear as to what it looks like down the corridor where Victor is, but I'll spell out my move anyway and I guess you can interpret it as best as you can GM. If there are "doors" in the corridor then I'll investigate them (quietly), but if there is no sign of any of our friends, I'll have to look somewhere else. Is that where the trapdoor leads? Basically, still looking for the princess, but I couldn't understand your description so by my eyes :)

Male Human Follower Alias

Victor heads down the corridor with his move action. He still has a standard action left, so will use it to either deal with resistance along the way (if applicable), unlock a door (if we find our friends), or use the standard for an extra move if none of the above is required.

Male Human Follower Alias

Victor attempts to unlock the door (assuming its locked). If the task fails, Victor then looks around searching for who the most likely person would be for carrying the key.

Disable Device: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26

Male Human Follower Alias

Ah TY, so does that mean that I successfully cross over with Janus? (though obviously, we cross at different parts of the ship)

Male Human Follower Alias

Kinda frustrated that after several posts (pre map) stating Victor would get as close as possible to being able to jump over, he is now apparently unable to get across while Janus can. Nor is there any logical way for a bullrush to really be a feasible option, its just going to break my invisibility and leave me on my own against like 9 guys -__-

I really don't know what to do since Victor really NEEDS to be on that boat, but I cannot, and every round wasted is a round of invisibility that Janus is wasting waiting for me. This really couldn't have gone any worse :(

Male Human Follower Alias

Victor casts Vanish and attempts to make the leap from one side of the ship to the other.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

Obviously if there is no square to jump / land on then I won't try it.

Male Human Follower Alias

Holding Action until we can determine if there is space to cross. If R1 is about to close and there is no real room, then I'll drop a Scorching Ray + SA to make a hole, and Janus and myself can rush through it next round.

Male Human Follower Alias

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 2 = 23

Victor easily avoids most of the arrow barrage and spots that the ships will be next to each other the following round. Quietly popping Shield, Victor uses his move action to leap from cover to cover, trying to get as close (distance wise) to where the two ships will meet, in order to make the most use of his limited duration invisibility spells.

Current HP 30/35. Current AC: 21.

Male Human Follower Alias

Victor notes that the ships are not close enough to easily board, so while following the excellent suggestion mentioned by Janus, he will also take cover, and begins casting his buffs with Mage Armor, Shield, and then Mirror Image in that order until he can find a safe spot to board, after which he will immediately cast Invisibility and head over.

Male Human Follower Alias

Or, I can prep three invisibility spells? One for me, one for the cleric, and one for the princess, while you can use your own invisibility extract on yourself. I'll even have Vanish for my own personal use if things get really awkward.

Male Human Follower Alias

Err how are you tagging the cleric if iirc extracts are restricted to the creator. I'm probably missing something but am just wondering what I missed!

Male Human Follower Alias

O.k so lets hash this out. From a distance of 30 feet, I can use disable device / sleight of hand, which means that if we need to steal a key from a guard, or something, I could probably try and pull that off via invisible and being undetected.

As for breaking out, I have 4+1 2nd level spells, and 5+1 1st level spells. I'll take Shocking Grasp and Scorching Ray for my "free" Evocation spells, and I'll probably take a Mirror Image Spell and an Invisibility to escape detection. I imagine the proper sequence of events is draw up alongside their boat ---> invisible dudes cross ---> find princess ----> cast invisibility on her ---> walk back and then we can fight or flee as required. So I'll probably need Invisibility x2, 1 Mirror Image, and probably max out on Scorching Rays for the rest of my spells so I can contribute to damage. Level 1 slots are probably Mage Armor + Shield + Vanish + Color Spray + Magic Missile

Defensive buffs put Victor at 21 AC with 1d4(+1?) images. So defensively I should be ok

Male Human Follower Alias

Maybe its the unspoken lie, that is, that you misheld information?

Victor turns the issue over in his mind before speaking, his words carefully considered. "On religious grounds I have no issue with an arranged marriage, loveless or otherwise, primarily because I'm not really the religious sort. Morally however, I would want to avoid bringing a girl back into a situation she wants to escape from. She will only attempt to escape again, and maybe she might run into a situation beyond her control, with no-one around her this time to protect her. Nor can we realistically be her bounty hunting team chasing her around the world to return her back to her spouse every time she runs away. I'm not opposed to us breaking in and taking her out from the pirates reach, but I would prefer that we find a solution that addresses the root cause of the problem, rather than the result".

Male Human Follower Alias

"I wish for the Stalkers Legendary Item to appear in the palm of my hand" is still a viable tactic. The only reason the tactic didn't work on my Inquisitor is a combination of having access to surge, legendary power (saving throws), and you know...being a spell breaker Inquisitor with extremely high saving throws. No idea on how to beat this God though, I'm all stuck on ideas.

Male Human Follower Alias

I don't have anything to do in town, unless we are never coming back here again, in which case I'd consider stealing a spell book or something to pass the time and add free spells to my own spell book without burning cash. Stealing OP

Male Human Follower Alias

Also seconding that Undetectable is really good. I remember playing a 14/6 Spellbreaker Inquisitor when I was ambushed by a squad of demons, and a high levee mythicl necromancer, mythic shadow sorcerer, and mythic Battle Oracle. IIRC the total CR was something like CR 22. Even then, the Inquisitor almost escaped after the casters resorted to a combination of Wishs, teleportation, and flying overhead raining down blind Greater Dispel Magics. Had it not been snowing, I would have gotten clean away and then turned around and sniped all of them from Invisibility. Long story short, there are still viable tactics you can use against the Undetectable legendary item ability, but boy is it scary on ranged characters with easy access to Greater Invisibility.

Male Human Follower Alias

Worth noting that its not just Janus that has the Undetectable ability, Victor has it as well~

Male Human Follower Alias

Victor decides to update his companions so that they know precisely what they are up against. "In my research, I heard that Caira Xasten was a celebrated academic, known for her ability to uncover secrets of the past. Unfortunately, her lover was slain by a falling meteor, or perhaps some careless wizard casting Meteor Swarm, and Caira swore vengeance for what she saw as a divine attack or punishment. Obviously, she isn't a very stable person right now, and possibly has a death wish. I recommend that we tread carefully, in my experience, people backed into a corner that see no way out, are generally the most dangerous"

"As for locations, the Cult of the End has been active in Varisia, anything else I know about the cult has already been told to us. It seems likely however that Caira might be undead supporters, or even be undead herself."

Male Human Follower Alias

Anything on my knowledge rolls or is victor clueless on this particular subject

Male Human Follower Alias

@Janus, I believe its referring to Riven having a negative level or some sort. It would have been nice if tricker god fixed it for her but oh well, I'm sure we will find a cleric somewhere who will remove it for us.

What Magicky thing in particular? Pretty sure Victor is up for it if you like Flare.

After Lucius leaves, Victor quietly reads his new spellbook, deciding on the spells he intends to use during the day. After casting Heroism, Page-bound Epiphany, and Heightened Awareness, he attempts to learn anything important or useful about the following subjects.

Knowledge Local Caira Xasten: 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 9 + 2 + 2 + 5 = 29
Knowledge Religion The Cult of the End: 1d20 + 12 + 2 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 12 + 2 + 2 + 5 = 24

Male Human Follower Alias

I added a spellbook spoiler in Victor's profile, so everyone knows what spells I have available.

Also I thought I'd write some sort of "Craft Wondrous Item" wish list. Aside from the standard stuff like Ring of Invisibility, Cloak of Resistance, + casting stat Headband, + Dex Belt I guess there are

Blessed Books, Boots of Spee and Sniper Goggles, are probably the bigger ones. Victor will probably try and spend his personal cash on metamagic rods, or adding spells into his spellbook wherever possible (or for material components for spells) if it helps.

Male Human Follower Alias

Riven, Janus, Victor trusts both of you, so treat the above spells as your own.

Male Human Follower Alias

Spellbook of the following spells:

Heightened Awareness
Alter Self
Blur
Darkvision
Fiery Shuriken
Glitterdust
Page-Bound Epiphany
Resist Energy
See Invisibility
Arcane Sight
Call the Void
Clairaudience/Clairvoyance
Fireball
Fly
Gaseous Form
Haste
Heroism
Tongues
Vampiric Touch

=4975 gp

I think this covers most situations.

Male Human Follower Alias

Thats a cool use of that wish, although I'd probably have to calculate the gp cost of the spells Id be adding to this custom spellbook. I'd probably prefer it over a headband tho, especially because then Riv can copy from it, but its up to the GM is this is workable or not.

Male Human Follower Alias

Kinda wish I could spend all that cash on scrolls / adding spells to my spellbook, but I guess I'll for for a headband of Intellect

Male Human Follower Alias

Victor frowns skeptically. "So basically, you and Elpis gave my friends and I a small amount of your power, we became your "chosen". Then, both Elpis and you, both fully powered deities, fought this creature of darkness and lost pretty easily. Now you show up and argue that my friends and I have the potential to achieve what you and your allies failed to do, and stop this creature, while having access to much less power than you did in this previous battle? Seems a little unrealistic if you ask me"

Male Human Follower Alias

I'm not entirely sure he can take 10, since he would be "distracted" if I'm attempting to use Sleight of Hand against him. I'm still perfectly happy hand waving his automatic success though, since Victor was more attempting to steal something that proves the guys "legend" (ie backstory), is true, rather than sneakily attempting to gain some super powered item that breaks out WBL. Beyond that, what Janus said basically.

Male Human Follower Alias

If he makes the perception check, then he definitely knows I took something! Unless he has some sort of special ability though, he probably doesn't automatically know. Being a demigod roughly equates to being mythic at this point, although its true that I don't know how powerful this guy actually is!

Male Human Follower Alias

Its +5 to the DC since I'm doing it at a range of 30 feet as per the Trickster ability, hence, DC 25.
