Yes this game appears to be dead, Amgir will you post a declaration of cession to this game? The energy is gone and I don't see a reason for me to try to go on. I don't want to run out on you after your kind invite but there appears to be no point. Thanks.

Iolana, Raz, DM:

Vico gives a slight frown and then says, "I understand that the culprit, as you say, can't put up a fight, but any survivors or family could file a complaint with the magistrates. How does the Cow Hammer Boyz handle that? Or are the clients, mmmm, picked to have problems that can't or won't go to authorities." Vico looks curiously at Baldrago as he thinks, I'm going to choke on the irony here as I say this in a Guardsman's uniform.

Vico eyes also sweep around the place, wondering what's taking so long.

Perception 1d20 ⇒ 10
Bluff 1d20 ⇒ 18

DM, Iolana, Raz:
Vico listens as garbage falls from Baldrago mouth, thinking, It just get worse and worse, he's completely faithless to anyone or anything except gold. How did he ever become a guardsman?

Vico looks a bit surprised then calculating, "Well, that sounds a bit risky, the money would have to be right. Connections are needed to clear up any misunderstandings that might occur. I'd need to know the Cow Hammer Boyz and get a feel for the long term prospects; you know me, I plan ahead." Vico attempts to get more info and conceal his true motives.

Bluff 1d20 ⇒ 19 Vico continues being deceptive, he finds the offer disgusting but wants to know more and waste Baldrago's time.

Sense Motive 1d20 ⇒ 9 Is Baldrago's offer sincere or does he have ulterior motives?

Vico tries the subtle approach as he promised but he's out of his element, he pokes creatures with metal sticks, he doesn't do suave. Not bad for him though.

Vico smiles at Iolana's peacemaking, "Not a problem, I'll see about the offer." Vico goes toward Baldrago. "Hello. That's the best offer I've had today but I admit to a certain wariness, 'that which looks too good to be true is too good to be true' an old but wise adage. So how does your new job go? Better pay goes with more risk so tell me what's the risk I'd be taking?"

Vico is interested in what Baldrago has to say but is thinking, Base, greedy, oaf, does he see me as honorless as himself? Not that honor has an ounce of meaning for him.

Bluff 1d20 ⇒ 2 Keep Baldrago from noticing his contempt or at least pass it off as arrogance on Vico's part, not disgust at Baldrago's treachery. I don't think that's going to work but maybe Baldrago'll just get offended, not perceptive. Maybe.

Player whistles in the dark :)

"By all means, proceed at once! I'll stay here and glower, holding their attention; if you get in trouble back there, scream, and I'll come swiftly." Vico is very ready to do something, anything.

Read the dm note in post above, open to all as you wish. If a roll is needed bluff 1d20 ⇒ 13. Vico will take no overt action as to Fealix yet he will seek the advice of the Temple of Pharasma first. The bluff is simply if Faelix believe Vico to be unaware of his oddness or not. If the bluff fails Faelix will know that Vico tried to pretend ignorance.

If the sneaky members want to sneak, Vico will support them as best he can. Let Tyler take the lead I guess, it appears he is the best sneak. Vico will go where Tyler wants him to, take in account Vico cannot be stealthy.

I stopped my action and a talking to the others now. So no I'm not currently going to try the intimidate.

Vico listens to the group and begin to wonder just what is going on. "I have orders to bring Vancaskerkin back alive if possible, I am going to carry out those orders. If I have deciphered your meaning correctly Iolana, you intend to aid him, why?" At Faelix's outburst Vico looks very surprised then assessing.

Sense Motive:1d20 ⇒ 20

Great roll, what do I get from it?

"Are you drunk young man? Please control yourself, the times are too serious for malarkey."

DM:
If Vico begins to understand what is going on with Faelix then the above line is a bluff, assume take 10 for 10 or roll for me to keep moving, otherwise Vico misses the point as usual and says what he means. If he does 'get it', he'll be visiting his brother/The temple of Pharasma in the very near future.

At Tyler's return and comments, Vico says, "I'm willing to wait for those that are good at 'nightly activities' to gain entry and answers, I could not be in such a group though, I'd be heard a mile away. Truly I'd prefer this settled with as little violence as possible - but not less violence than possible, to complete the Field Marshal's orders, that I'm sworn to obey. And I'm very sure that the Field Marshal intends for me to return alive."

Vico stops before marching up to the erstwhile guardsmen. He turns as Faelix and Iolana engage in their war of sarcasm. "If being witty would solve the day, we would already be in a tavern, the day's work done." Oh, by the gods, they have me doing it now!

In a less volatile tone Vico continues, "You make a good point, Iolana, in saying that if defeated they may prove too loyal to give up their leader. More likely those two don't know it anyway; I wouldn't trust them with anything important. But what action are you really suggesting? I have no ability to sneak, Faelix says the same. Do we wait till dark, observing this place, and see if some one leads to where we go? That might work but we are known here now, if our target is not already here, then a competent intriguer would not go to his boss for a while. We ... I don't have unlimited time for this either. What say you quiet others, any stealth will fall on you guys and the lady, I guess?"

Vico strokes his mustache in contemplation. "I'd prefer not to have a confrontation, they are or were colleagues, and riots are a terror to all. But the mission will be done." Vico looks at any remaining stealthy types, silently questioning, can you do it?

Glad to be on board, Tyler, nice to see you, hope the pace can pick up now. I've been matching pace but can do more posting most days.

If no one comes up with anything better, Vico will approach the men, "Kano, Jax, a fine though unexpected day for charity, quite the new job for you. But the Field Marshal might have something to say about deserters, more so in this troubled time. So I suggest that you stand aside while we sort this out, otherwise ..." Vico lets their limited imagination work on them.

Intimidate 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29 Do they stand down?

Vico has his sword hand empty and his other arm(with the buckler) across his chest. Holding an action, if violence breaks out, from anywhere, Vico will go full defense with his bucker getting AC 24.

As Faelix talks to his former co-workers, Vico is impressed by the young man's confidence and fine talking, too bad it looks wasted on these louts.

Watching the scene enfold, Vico misses Iolana's intense study. She sees an average man in a good quality Guardmen's uniform and a buckler on his arm and a very good quality sword. In a rare display for a Guardman, he wears a necklace with the Spiral of Pharasma on it.

Iolana:

Thinking it over, she remembers some talk about him, since it involved the miscreant Lamm. Vico is the son of a well know litigant to the various ministries and courts. He has a twin brother and supposedly an older sister. A tragedy involving drugs, the sister, and Lamm happened. The church of Pharasma got involved, normally they don't. After the brother joined the Black Roses, the special intelligencers of the church, they sometime work for the Guard in cases involving the supernatural. Vico graduated from the Eldrin Military Academy, and is noted for great strength, and joined the Guard as a common Guardsmen, though he is due for a promotion. He was known to hunt for the elusive Lamm, going so far as to search the endless sewers and ruins in the city. Recently, his assignment is to find the murderer of a child found near the dock where Lamm died.

As Fealix's encounter with the ex-guardsmen starts to go awry, Vico leans forward, prepared to draw blade and defend his charge.

Vico recognizes the warriors as members of the guard. He feels some disappointment at their defection but that feeling is overwhelmed by his puzzlement. In an uncertain tone of voice, Vico whispers to the others, "Those two up there giving out the meat are Guardsmen, with their armor, good but not great fighters, but I do not understand this, they are greedy men, not charitable at all." Vico's mustache shakes as his lips twitch with frustration. "You seem to know these places better than I, how do you wish to handle this? We do not need more riots."

Profession:Soldier 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 Do I know the armored men professionally? How competent do they appear?

Knowledge:Local 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 What do I know of this place, of the people I see here?

Sense Motive 1d20 ⇒ 12 What do I sense is going on? Is the place being robbed quietly or is this a covert charity or something else?

Vico enters behind Faelix and surveys the crowd. The scene is strange to his eyes and he tries to make sense of it.

All but Iolana:

After getting his orders Vico snaps a perfect salute. "At once, Field Marshall." Vico marches out just behind Faelix.

DM,Raz,Tyler:

Tyler strides boldly into the barracks to a strange tableaux. He sees Field Marshall Cressida and the solders of the barracks staring at a handsome man, who appears a bit otherworldly.

The Field Marshal is here, must be important. I wonder what it's all about. Wow, that guy must be on the spot, seems like days have gone by waiting for a answer.

;) Sorry about that but I can't think of anything to say that will actually move events forward. Been waiting to see other posts but with days gone by I'm making a filler post. Hope it helps.

DM,Raz,Tyler:

Vico sighs, "Disappointing but not surprising. The remains show great brutality but also very professional work. Must've been Lamm's crowd but how to prove it?" Vico finishes his meal. "Can't eat another bite, take your time, when you are finished we'll go to the barracks and you can find out what the bosses want." Vico will wait for them to finish and then lead them to the barracks.

DM,Raz,Tyler:

Vico looks grim as he digests the news. "That's... horrible, I glad you're free of him. I heard that he was killed recently, wish I could have been there." Vico looks into the distance. "Please sit and eat, few enough get to feed like this now. Though, perhaps you know of a lad. I looking into the death of a child, down by an abandoned warehouse. He was viciously murdered; have you heard of anything about that? It sounds like something Lamm would do or have done but he's never been this sloppy about .... leaving evidence." Vico chews his food hard, in frustration.

DM,Raz,Tyler:

Vico smiles at Raz's response, "Very good, the guard does all it can but there are not enough hours in the day. Especially now." Vico's smile vanishes in a sea of concern, but brightens again as Tyler enters. After Tyler's words he says, "Captives, do you mean figuratively or were you enslaved like.. like... that vile beast Gaedren did with drugs to my sister?" Vico seems to choke with emotion for a moment then shakes a bit then returns to normal. Vico digs in again to the great breakfast knowing its like will not soon be repeated.

DM,Raz,Tyler:

Pardon my obtuseness in missing my first cue.

As Raz and Tyler enters the room where breakfast is served, Vico is sitting at table eating a breakfast far superior to the normal barracks fare. He waves at them. Assuming they come over, Vico reintroduces himself. "Vico d'Sall, at your service. I've been asked to invite you back to the barracks by my sergeant, it appears there is more they wish to discuss with you."

Vico looks at them curiously, "If you don't mind my asking, what is it about you, a very young man, and a not as young as he appears man, that has inspired such confidence in you? There have been rumors, of course, but as all such do, they contradict each other." Vico is genuinely curious about them.

Should I start posting in gameplay? That brief meeting with Raz and Tyler doesn't feel like much of a hook, I'm not sure how to follow that up. Could I have a little more of a setup, please? Give my best Oliver Twist look. :-)

Yes, I did use my favoured class bonus to take skills points. That's great news on his position, thanks.

For the build phase I just assumed he rolled a 2, the lowest possible, but rolling for real, I forgot about that. Here goes.

1d10 ⇒ 3

I'll replace the 12 with 10 plus the roll.

Well, it's better, just :)

Looking around at some discussions, Vico is better than the Joe average guard but not as good as a Watch Captain. Not sure how good the watch sergeants are.

I found the image I used for the Korvosan Guard at the following link. I don't know how accurate it is.

This is the link for the KG image I found.

Image of Vico on patrol

Headshot: Admire the mustache!

I've finished his inventory. Encumbrance set. Note: He has two different: one is combat/patrol load without a backpack, the second is travel with a backpack.

Now for some questions: I don't have much information, the Player's guide says little, not much is on-line, so I'd like a few answers, if you think Vico would know them. I'm caught up with the gameplay now.

Is that image an OK look for the Guard, they seem to have uniforms and wear a badge that is a different version of the Korvosan Emblem? Is chain an OK armor, from the image I was using I could not tell if they wore chain or scale, (or both) I used chain?

How are the guards organized? Field Marshal at top, and watch sergeants at the watch-posts, there must be other ranks. Vico's from common but very gentle family, with a respected barrister for a father. Is he a common guardsman or higher in rank? How elite are the Kovosan Guards?

He'd be sympathetic to anyone with a grudge against the recently late Gaedren Lamm, has he met any of the others before, maybe in the course of his own investigations?

How long has he been in the Guards, I'm thinking two-three years but it's up to the DM, of course?

I'm assuming he has his brother, just the Maruccio will be busy with other events for as long as need be, any problems with that? The parents are still alive, and they are likely many other relatives around, OK?

See any last minute problems with Vico, build, equipment, background, anything?

What, if anything does he know about what's going on? He's a bit more tied into the city, especially the upper end, than the others.

Anything Vico should know that I haven't thought to ask, but that he would?

Thanks for asking me to join and I'm ready to begin play.

Sorry again then, dealing with bureaucrats, corp and public, has made me a bit jumpy.(and grumpy and other 'umpys :) )Hope I'm done by tomorrow afternoon for a while. Did not realize you were replying in char to a char, don't know why, guess my humor detector is busted.

I'll post now as Vico from now on, except when I forget.

I'll work on more for the character, and post the rest of his equipment sometime tomorrow.

Four pages in and bunch to go...

Since the DM has posted the brief description of the characters I'd thought I present a fuller view.

Twin#2
This is Vico d'Sall, Fighter and member of the Korvosan Guard, wanderer in the dark places of the city. The less complex character and my current favorite. This character seemed too simple, but that became a plus as I finished the base build and he pulled ahead in my affection as editing went on. Note: Draft version, much work needs to be done, revisions likely, edits for format and game needed. Skill set slightly overlaps with some of the other players. This character is loyal to Korvosa and will need some reason not to run the lot of you in. It's doable, just show how it benefits the city.

Please, kindly, make your thoughts known, all comments appreciated.
