"Aye, I shall return in a few days, Marra is waiting at your residence. Might want to hurry back, in case the guards decide to close the gates."

Vencarlo stands and speaks. "Forgive me friends, I must be getting these ladies out, thank you for your efforts, they shall not go unrewarded."

About an hour later, Vencarlo arrives with Marra in tow.

"Thank you my friends, I can take it from here. Something strange occured, a ship wouldn't answer hails, Marra says that the ship had black sails, but the catapults broke her spine and she went down in two halves."

"No time for elaborate disguises, the magic in the hats should cover them. Just get them out before they close the secondary gates. When all the traffic going out is funneled through the main gates, it will be harder to get away with it. You have less than an hour."

let's get the scene moving.

"You could, if we had a theatre club."

"With the recent events near North Bridge, perhaps a slow walk through the city down to High Bridge and then up to Dwarfwalk Road, mingling with the evening’s merchants leaving the city."

When the girls put on their hats, their facial features seem to meld, Jendai now appears a young boy, while Trinia's features change, making her look like a buxom red-tressed lass.

knowledge arcana DC 15:
It appears that Vencarlo has attained the use of a pair of the magic item known as a Hat of Disguise

"Well good dwarf, I might ask him if you want to duel some time, no armor, first blood? But that's for another time, get these ladies out of here."

The academy is located at 16 Hillcrest Street, near the center of Old Korvosa. A sign hanging from the front door reads, “Classes Cancelled Today.” A few moments after the PCs arrive, before you can knock on the academy’s front door, a serious-looking Vencarlo appears and ushers them inside. The swordsman thanks the PCs for responding
to his cryptic note and leads them down a hall and into a study, the windows of which are tightly shuttered and curtained. He explains in hushed tones that he has an important task for the PCs, one that becomes obvious when he calls the other guests into the room: Trinia Sabor and a girl who looks her sister, but who must only be thirteen summers in age. Wearing simple traveling clothes, the alleged assassin
holds a wide-brimmed rider’s hat and a wig of long red curls—gifts from Orisini to use in her disguise, the other holds a straw farmer's hat. Trinia appears both nervous and excited Vencarlo then asks his guests to be seated—he remains standing as he speaks.

“You were all at the Queen’s debacle I'm told, as I did not attend, as I didn't agree with the Queen. This young lady is Jendai Kalesta. I had only just reached my home the night of Her Majesty’s morbid gala when that rogue Blackjack and this startled woman arrived at my doorstep. The people’s hero and I have had some dealings in the past, but still, it’s been some years since I’ve seen the scoundrel. He was quick with his words, and soon swooped off—doubtlessly to right some other festering wrong—but not before entrusting Miss Kalesta into my protection and care. Miss Kalesta is the pickpocket who was nearly executed in Trinia's place. Although I don’t know Blackjack’s motives or politics, I trust his judgment and have seen much right done by his blade. He says the girl is innocent of the crime she’s been accused of, and I’m more disposed to trust a hero of the city than the tantrums of some bloody-minded harlot playing at queen."

“The matter is simple: Korvosa is no longer safe for Miss Sabor or Miss Kalesta. I’ve arranged for friends in Harse—a couple of well respected ranchers—to take in our beautiful renegades until this whole ‘assassination’ foolishness blows over. Its the first leg of the journey where we find our problem, though. Both the Korvosan Guard and the Sable Company have been searching for the young lady tirelessly they’ve stopped by here three times so far, and each time I’ve only just barely been able to turn them away without inviting a search. My most reliable contacts have gone to ground in light of the recent uprisings, and Her Highness’s considerable bounty for Trinia’s capture makes the use of new agents inadvisable. Thus, after some time to let her trail cool, I turned to you resourceful lot. With the Gray Maidens beginning their searches for her soon, I can't turn them away. Care to escort a lady home?”

"Marra, you're too well known, you should stay with me, you might cause undue attention to the others."

"Yes, it does appear to be that time..." with that Orsini stands and glances at the group of heroes...judging them as a horsebuyer judges a horse...

"Lady Aliandara, after you... a little too familiar perhaps?

Sgt. Drakus looks at Panish.

"OK, face man. How do you want us to carry the bribe money? Openly, in a chest, or secretly, in our packs?"

Vencarlo's eyes narrow at the slight given by Drakus, obviously not used to being given a nick-name by a guardsman. "That decision is yours to make, just as Cressida indicated."

As you're preparing to leave, the door to the inn open again, Vencarlo Orisini strides in. "Well my friends, dusk falls, I shall escort you to Eel's End. Where has Sollus gone?"

"Cressida, have you received any word of Blackjack during this turmoil? This anarchy seems to be right up his alley, toppling the evil nobles, restoring the power in the city to the peoples. I know it's been ages since his last appearance, but we can hope."

Knowledge Local DC10:

Spoiler:
Tales of Blackjack’s moves against corrupt politicians, cruel
nobles, and greedy merchants have been part of Korvosa’s
culture for two centuries, and although he hasn’t made an
appearance in the last decade, Blackjack stories remain as
popular as ever among the peasants. Because Blackjack
has existed for centuries, few believe him to be a single
person. The most popular rumor surrounding Blackjack
places him as a series of human men, with one training
a replacement each generation.

Vencarlo chuckles."No, no I don't recall that specific event, of course I do attend so many galas and celebrations, and so many make fools of themselves, one can never remember a single event..." And his gaze shifts back to Aliandara...

He glaces around the adventurers sitting at the table, Vencarlo looks to the deformed face of Marra, then turns his attention to Aliandara. "You actions for the city of Korvosa have been of noble purpose. His eyes linger on Aliandara while he talks."

After the Field Marshall finishes handing out the coins, a tall handsome man enters the room, dressed in the finery of nobility. He bows with a flourish.
