Liberty's Edge

My recommendation after everything I have bought from my local game store is to carry one of all the Hard Covers with the exception of the Core Rule book which you should always have 2 of. My local store also has 1 copy of each hard cover as a "store copy" which you can use when there. (Though they rarely get used as players and GMs tend to want to own their own copy. It helps though.)

If you are going to host PFS I would recommend one of each of the modules that is sanctioned. 1 copy of RotRL, 1 of Shattered Start, 1 of Reign of Winter, 1 of Skull & Shackles, assorted flip maps and map packs (mostly basic terrains). The mini boosters sell well at our store but your milage may be different there. 1 pack of Critical Hit cards, 1 of critical fumbles, 1 of item cards for each AP you stock, status effect cards, and 1 map folio for each AP you have.

An assortment of battle mats, packs of Vis a Vis markers. The 5 pack that has 2x blacks, 1 blue, 1 red, and 1 green are the best IMO.

Always keep a beginners box there as well as a Bestiary box. The Pathfinder field guide....

I would steer clear of non sanctioned modules unless someone asks for them. The other thing you can do is offer to order whatever Pathfinder Items a player needs and just roll it into your weekly order. I would also (based on my experience) purchase a color laser printer for your shop. If a player needs to print a module/PFS scenario, you can sell the ink that way. There will always been a need for a printer there if you run PFS out of your store.

And the most important... just listen to what your players are asking for. Pathfinders seem to be a more patient bunch of people. Oh and the Game Mastery Guide is an awesome book for new GM's. Sure, many call it a fluff book but I found it amazingly useful.

My players are also quite thoughtful in their run so far...

Following notes carry through the first chapter

Spoiler:

One of my players PC is an Inspector Detective (Bard). He sees everything and can diplo just about anything with a brain. Fighting the Arctic Tatyzlwyrm he ended up fascinating it, and they tried to leave it alive in their departure. Well being that it chased them down, they ended up killing it but it wasn't for lack of trying.

Then they get to High Sentinel Lodge and just astounded me. They tripped the trap outside, not by not seeing it, but a bad disable device roll by the our filcher. So Rohkar's Raiders come running outside to attack. They lay them down fairly easily and then they burn the bodies. Now I know none of them have read the AP (they are all quite experienced players) but the PC's discussed and decided they should burn them. So they enter, meanwhile Rohkar has done his battle prep upstairs. They find Ten Pence Pacy in the kitchen clinging to a rafter and diplo her down and coax some info out of her. She asks to leave after telling them she thinks they are keeping the councilwoman in the house somewhere. After seeing the woman clinging to the ceiling, our Winter Witch freaks out. (The player knows all the history of the Jadwiga and uses it well in her character) She finds a large bag of flour in the kitchen and starts throwing it everywhere looking for invisible people... quite a hilarious sight to be honest. Ends up powdering the whole main floor and she is still powdering up the stairs when they enter Rohkars study. While the druid and bard are dealing with the frost skeletons upstairs the witch and inquisitor see footprints coming down the stairs and the witches familiar (Ermine) latches to Rohkar and grapples around his neck while the witch throws flour on him. So now there is a lightly powdered invisible guy with a "mink" wrapped around his neck, cornered trying to come down the stairs. He tries to jump over the railing halfway up to make a run for it, but misses his acrobatics check and falls flat faced right in front of the filcher and the inquisitor. They smack him up a bit and then tie him up. They interrogate him, get the councilwoman out and headed back to town, and then, even knowing his deity (detective saw his unholy symbol when he was tied up) dump him in the cellar with 1 HP and lock it up.

I was floored. The whole encounter was so off from what I was expecting it was amazing. This is a great group to run with though they are definitely going to keep me on my toes through this AP.

As for them trying to Diplo the raiders that came running out, wasn't going to happen. They were more scared of Rokhar then they were of the PC's but my bard had a hard time swallowing that pill. But oh well. We do what we can to keep things moving without railroading them.

My players will be running the Soul Bound Guardian section tomorrow night so I will let you know how they handled it. I have a feeling it will be similar though the Witch will likely freak out when she sees the doll. (Her backstory is she is a WWitch from Irrisen who came to Absalom looking for information as Baba Yaga didn't return when she was supposed to. She didn't dare look for info in Irrisen as she is terrified of Elvanna. We are running this for PFS so I added a whole PFS mission tie in during our prequel that brought the PCs together for this.)

Check with the Paizo people for commercial release stuff but logic dictates anything in the PRD could be used. http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/

And when the time comes, I would love to try it out and test it for ya. I consider myself a bit of a theory crafter and like to run the calcs.

I will have to agree. Even without the fancy arrows, just having an indicator showing where each stair set connects to the next/previous floor is helpful. IE: Matched color dots would work.

Thanks!

Thanks man! Some good stuff there.

Most of what I have learned was HERE

I hope it's okay to post a tiny excerpt here but if not, Please let me know and remove it.

Irrisen Land of Eternal Winter wrote:
She (Baba Yaga) left Golarion, handing power to her eldest daughter, Jadwiga, who proved herself every bit as capable and cruel as her mother, and established the nation of Irrisen as it's known today.

Baba Yaga's descendants are known today as Jadwiga, taking their name from Irrisen's first queen, though many outsiders incorrectly translate the term as "children of the witch-mother."

@bwatford - If I might ask, what art package are you using for your tiles? Is that default built in stuff in the software or something else you downloaded? Just wondering if I can use those resources to build maps in something else. I also think I located a friend with the software who can let me use it.

Thanks!

Liberty's Edge

Oh phew! I was beginning to worry. @Chris, thanks for helping work this out for us. I really appreciate it!

What was the required course of action to put maps here? I would like to contribute what I build and don't know what was agreed upon.

Thanks again everyone!

Liberty's Edge

Thanks @Lexica. I learn something new everyday around here. :D

If you are authorized to play an Ifrit, then the question is valid. In that case, I do not know your answer unfortunately. I wasn't sure if there were any Chronicle Sheets for an Ifrit at this time. Was hoping to save you some pain if you take the time to build a character you can not play in PFS.

To create an dhampir, fetchling, goblin, ifrit, kitsune, nagaji, oread, sylph, undine, or wayang character, you must have a Chronicle sheet that opens the race as a legal option at character creation.

Sorry, but without a Chronicle sheet for on Ifrit, the question is rather moot. :(

Just have to say it again bwatford, these are fantastic! I'm using them now, and in a few weeks will be starting a second group on RoW as well. And they are really helping me set the tone and save on some prep time. On another note, I went to buy the software you are using, but their site wouldn't take my money! :( So I have been unable to buy it yet.

This is FANTASTIC! These look amazing! Thanks so much for sharing!

Just had to say, this is a great OP and a great thread. Very informative. Thanks!
