Vander Kai is a mystery the moment he steps into view. He wears the robes befitting a nobleman, and certainly gives off the airs of one, but on closer inspection shows to have very little in the way of worldly possessions or wealth. Vander is polite in conversations, but one gets the feeling that he is merely tolerating the experience. More often, the man simply gazes upon the night sky looking for something that he is not even sure he will find.
Vander does not talk about his past. What is known about him comes from rumors about the various lodges Kai has come into contact with. He is from Hermea and he was exiled from that mysterious island. Vander holds no love for dragons or their kind. If one mentions Mengkare, his contempt is visually apparent even though he does not vocalize his sentiment. However he ended up in the service of the Society, the road was not of Vander's choosing.
There is speculation that Vander's abilities are cause for both his exile and his aloof manner. His mind is a torrent and has given him the power of to manipulate things with a mere thought. Vander has a clear connection to the stars and the night sky, as when his mind is fully unleashed a cloak of stars and heavenly bodies encircle the Hermean making it appear he is a traveler of the void. Voices are often heard from his chamber as the man cries out or engages in something believed to be visiting him in his dreams.
Vander has stated that he is on a journey of self-discovery and has joined the Society to facilitate that quest, an arrangement both parties believe will be of benefit.
