M Elf Wizard/1

Captain Sumore. I am Valnir, and this is Shivaan. We are currently seeking passage to Escadar and were informed you might be inclined to make such a trip. Have you made the trip to Escadar before and would you be willing to take us? We'll pay you for your trouble of course.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Well, aren't you and I the charmers Shivaan....

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

In the morning before Garret makes his way towards Otti's Valnir mentions he will try to hunt down Darice Sumore and see what sort of price their trip to Escadar might entail.

Well boys, I believe I'll call upon Captain Sumore and see about a boat to Escadar. What say we reconvene after we speak to the various Captain's and see which might be our best option. Truth be told I hope it's her, as after the last few days it might be nice to travel with the fairer sex for a bit.

With that Valnir asks around for some information regarding Captain Sumore, and then heads to her location.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Valnir saddles up to the bar and orders a stout. He slowly nurses it as he listens to conversations around him trying to pick out any information that could useful to the group.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Valnir inspects the dead Kobold. He pockets the small bag full of amethysts (though intends to split the loot after they make camp). Noticing the hue of the wooden wand Valnir casts detect magic which verifies this to be a magical item. Valnir takes a closer look:

C'mon dice, you owe me...
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

Unfortunately for Valnir he does not have the ability to use the wand, he offers it to the other members of the group.

I found a wand of cure light wounds. Can one of you use it help Balak and Garrett? I'm unable to activate it.

After passing off the wand if possible Valnir follows Thayn into the hovel to help as well as see if any other magical items might exist:

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Valnir moves to get a clear line of site of the giant lizard still threatening the group.
Move to D11

Valnir screams at the croc as he sees Balak go down. A burst of blue energy flies at the creature.
Back away from him beast!

Ray of Frost: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Valnir decides he's spent enough time up close and personal with the Crocodile. Though Balak seems to have its attention for the moment Valnir does not want to risk it and carefully moves away.

Withdraw action to F11

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

I've had about enough of this, here I am trying to have a civilized conversation and you try to feed my little friend here to your pet croc. Tell me Garret, any good recipes for blackened Crocodile?

A red aura begins to surround Valnir as he murmurs and waves his hands. Suddenly as his hands push forward a great blast of flame erupts engulfing the Crocodile.

Cast defensively DC 15: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Burning Hands dmg: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Entangle Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

Man, I just found withdraw in the combat rules. Wish I'd known about that first round lol. Perhaps next round, I need some breathing space.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Either she mistakes our intentions or does not care. Either way it looks like we'll not be leaving without a fight.

Valnir looks at his feet, annoyed at the effects of the entanglement spell cast by the Kobold. He begins working to remove himself.
Escape Artist roll in lieu of movement

Escape Artist: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

Valnir, now free of his entanglement, makes a move away from the giant lizard.
5 ft step to H9

I think moving within the area forces me to attempt save, so this is for that. If I'm wrong on that ignore this roll.
Entagle Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

Valnir casts Ray of Frost at the attacking Kobold.
In case I'm entangled, conentration check. Spell is lvl 0, so DC 15
Concentration: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Ray of Frost: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Damage if hit: 1d3 ⇒ 2

Ending turn in entanglement area
Entagle Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Valnir attempts to speak to the Kobold. He raises his voice so that she can hear him, but does his best to sound friendly.

One by one Valnir attempts the different languages he knows, saying the following:

Sorry to disturb you, do you speak *language*?

Valnir cycles through the languages he knows that were not already attempted by Garrett in this order:

Goblin
Gnoll
Orc
Sylvan

Should Valnir find a common tongue he continues:

Excuse me, we are sorry to disturb you. We are simple travelers trying to make our way out of the mountains. Our path and your home appear to overlap. We hope you'll permit us passage so we can be on our way.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

I've no idea what she's saying or singing. I know several languages however, perhaps she and I know at least one common tongue.

With this Valnir waits to see if anyone else in the group perhaps understands her language, or to see their thoughts on his approaching the creature.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Valnir listens intently to the strange language coming from the structure. While he has no idea the content of the sounds he attempts to discern how many voices are present.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

As quietly as possible Valnir passes along any information he gleans to the party.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

I agree with your assessment on watches Clacent. I'll prepare for first watch.

With that Valnir begins looking around the area to see where potential danger could come from and gets himself ready for first watch.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Valnir agrees to Clacent's plan for watch and cold weather gear rotation. He quickly sets about starting a fire in the small stove to help stave off the oncoming cold.

Roll for +4 fort save
Survival: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Valnir accepts one of the wolf skins and thanks the Centaur for their generous gift. After dispensing with pleasantries Valnir begins preparing for the renewed trek.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Valnir looks around at his allies, trying to ensure everyone is ok.

Everyone alright? Nester?

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

At the site of his dagger glancing off the beasts hide Valnir yells several Sylvan expletives.

Well let's go back to what worked before, Valnir mumbles to himself as he begins moving his hands. Within a moment a blue burst of energy flies at the animal.

Ray of Frost (Touch Attack): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Damage (Ray of Frost): 1d3 ⇒ 1

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Undeterred by his terrible aim on his previous attempt Valnir readies his dagger once more (and say's a short prayer to not hit one of his allies...):

Hand of the Apprentice: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Dmg if hit: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

All good on the soft-cover, I've been reading up on the resource site to fill in gaps. Thank you though.

As Valnir stares at the barely visible form of the beast his dagger flies from his hand, seemingly of its own volition. The dagger sets a straight course for where the beast lay...

Hand of the Apprentice: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Dmg if hit: 1d4 ⇒ 2

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

The confusion of the situation finally gone Valnir readies himself to do battle with the beast.

Move to H12

With a wave of his hands and a few ominous words an icy blue beam bursts from Valnir's hands heading for the Krenshar.

Ray of Frost (Touch Attack): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Damage (Ray of Frost): 1d3 ⇒ 2
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Extra dmg if Crit: 1d3 ⇒ 2

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Valnir is awoken by the screams of Shivaan and Clacent. Hurriedly, he attempts to prepare himself for the fight.

Move action 1: stand from prone
Move action 2: equip dagger

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

@gmAlice So in the gameplay thread I am no longer able to delete/edit my last entry.

I'm also curious about your saying we'll need a move action to get out of our tents, are we in tents? I had presumed we were all in the open in bedrolls (for example I don't own a tent).

Based on your explanation of needing to get up from prone and the fact the enemy of will move before me if that post can just be ignored and I'll re-post when my initiative block comes up.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

Valnir jumps at the alarm of both Shivaan yelling and Clacent screaming out in pain. He looks around taking in the situation then fixes his gaze on the jungle cat.

At his first opportunity Valnir moves his hands in a rythmic fashion while murmuring an ancient tongue.

Valnir's action will depend on the current position of the beast. If a cone attack will include his allies Valnir will case Ray of Frost. If a cone attack will only hit the beast, without harming an ally or their gear he will cast burning hands. Valnir will move into range if needbe, but will stay at max distance and near an ally if possible.
------------
After a moment Valnir points at the beast shooting a Ray of Frost from his fingertip.

Ray of Frost (Touch Attack): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Damage (Ray of Frost): 1d3 ⇒ 1
-------------
After a moment Valnir pushes both hands in the direction of the cat, palms forward as a wave of fire bursts forth from them.

Damage (Burning Hands): 1d4 ⇒ 4
--------------

Not sure exactly how to format this, since I don't know exactly how the board will be laid out when my block comes up. If I need to change my approach let me know.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

All ready to move

I believe you are right Shivaan, if everyone is in order we should best keep moving.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Valnir carefully crosses the river, keeping an eye out for possible attack. As he plants his feet back on firm ground he draws his dagger in response to his companions conversation.

Take 10 acrobatics = 10 + 1 = 11

While I had hoped to avoid this nuisance all together, if this beast intends to get in our way might it be best to set our own trap? The setback of preparing our own ambush may be less costly than walking into its.

Valnir continues to eye the forest edge, dagger drawn.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Valnir moves his hand to his dagger and peers around the forest's edge.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Valnir mentions to his companions:

It looks like a log may have served as the sole means to cross this river. We may have to find another way around. I'm not much of a woodsman however, Thayn or Clacent, does this look crossable to you?

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Valnir accepts one of the goodberries and stows it away in a pouch hanging from his belt.

Later, Valnir thanks Garret for the hot meal, devours it. Afterwords, Valnir sits by fire performing low level spells, barely cantrips, to amuse himself. A fallen leaf jumps from the ground, dances around the campfire, and then darts into the fire itself. Valnir compliments Garret on his cooking prowess.

After Garret's confession about Lady Morianna's request:

Might I inquire, if you know, as to the contents of Lady Moriana's letter? I must say I'm not quite comfortable delivering a communique with no idea as to its purpose.

At Clacent's mention of of a watch:

No argument here. With at least one serious threat we know of, and countless unknown we can not be too safe. I've no problem taking the second watch.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Valnir address the other members of the party, but makes no attempt to prevent himself from being heard by the Centaur.

Comrades, I agree if we run into the beast along our path it would wise to put it down. We should exercise additional caution lest we end up ambushed.

However, I do not believe we should go out of our way to pursue the beast as our current task is of a rather timely nature.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Valnir hangs back, keeping an eye on the Centaurs as Shivaan and Clacent speak for the group.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Valnir chuckles at Garret's explanation.
Ah, very good. A difference of perceived connotation, what he called a scheme I'd call a plan. Scheme has a certain ill ring to it in my mind. I appreciate you setting it at ease.

Valnir gestures in Shivaan's direction:
And I suppose we'll see how long trail rations can hold a man when the smell of a hot meal fills his nostrils.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

Valnir's interest is notably piqued at the reference to a scheme hatched by Lady Morilla. He decides though to wait for a better time for clarification.

Once arrived back at the lodge, while waiting for Rees to arrive, Valnir decides to ask:

So what was this about a scheme of the Lady Morilla's?
-----------------
Pending potential follow-up on the Morilla scheme issue, Valnir does the following after it's resolved
------------------

I believe I have adequate provisions for this trip, for myself at least. I have some trail rations, but will happily pitch in to have Garret cook some proper meals.
With this Valnir hands Garret 50 silver Deducted from my profile

Good day Master Rees. It shall be a pleasure to accompany you on this expedition. If there are no other pressing matters or need for discussion, I will finish preparing myself before we set out.

Valnir then sets about the task of preparing his 2 spells for the day: Burning Hands and Sleep.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

"Your words of warning hint at additional knowledge of the task at hand, Grandmaster. What dangers await us on this journey? We were warned of the Consortium, and normal perils of adventure. Are there other threats lurking that should be known to us?" Valnir asks Grandmaster torch, believing him to know more than he has said.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

I'm fine with rangers taking up point and rear. My AC definitely makes me a middle of the pack type 'o guy

Valnir looks toward his short companion, Garret.
"Yes, very different indeed from what I've been led to expect. Let's hope we can prove ourselves with little impedance. Though, I also hope that it doesn't prove too uneventful," Valnir states with a sly smile.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

With pleasantries over and their questions answered Valnir gives a nod to the Venture Captain and Lady Gloriana, then exits the room and makes his way out of Skyreach.

While not yet in the Puddles, Valnir keeps an eye out for entrances to the sewers.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Grand Lodge

M Elf Wizard/1

A rather ordinary looking Elf in a worn cloak sits silently in thought. After carefully listening to all the old man has to say he looks up, first at the Lady Morilla, then at Venture Captain Dreng, and asks:

I've no doubt, Venture Captain, that this discovery would be of interest to more than just ourselves and the Aspis Consortium. Are there any other groups or individuals we should be wary of on this journey? Perhaps some who may not have explicitly expressed interest.

The elf follow's up with a second inquiry:

Do we have any information as to the nature of the object we are to procure? Perhaps from the Gillmen themselves, or our own diviners?.

Satisfied by the Venture Captain's answers Valnir lets his companions know he is ready to depart when they are.

@GM Alice
Languages have been updated, I had mistakenly thought it was 1 bonus language for having at least +1 int mod.

The MW Dagger was indeed the arcane bond, I'd forgotten to put it in equipment.

Spell Focus feat has also been added.

Thanks very much for the once over and clarification.

Looking forward to playing with you all.

Grand Lodge

Yes, I am aware, and I am familiar with many other rules/aspects of the game (ie. opportunity attacks, traits) from looking at some of the online resources. I should be able to hold my own, however extra guidance would be helpful and not seen as a slight.

Grand Lodge

Have updated this character with a fleshed out sheet (including PFS number). Just started (using Beginner Box) so feel free to correct anything of issue.

Grand Lodge

Would love to bring a Wizard if you get a second group up and running. I'll work up this guys full character sheet today.
