With his final effort Vale hefts himself up onto the cliff. A heavy breath in his lungs, he spins around to see the scorpion swarm pouring over their allies. "Warren, Terrel, to the rope! Everyone, grab on, we need to haul them up!" He grabs the rope alongside Rena and Ardan, helping to brace it now, but prepared to pull back, hoping to bring the last two of their number to safety.

Not one to give up easily, Vale follows the others' lead and recommits to the effort of climbing up the wall. "Not much I can do against that many scorpions anyway." He mutters under his breath as he attempts to make his way up. Two attempts, if the rope has been lowered, he will graciously use it Climb: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 3 - 2 = 11

Vale is momentarily overcome by the waves of monstrous scorpions pouring at them, having hunkered down behind his shield to avoid the creature's stinger. As Sprig vanquishes the beast before him, he moves to thank him, then immediately sees the swarms pouring out. Following the moves of the others, Vale runs to the wall and attempts to scale it, but finds little purchase amidst the chaos. "This may not be the best time to reflect on the fact that I have not much skill in climbing..." Climb: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 3 - 2 = 5

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 Vale lends his senses to the evaluation of the three passages, but sadly draws no new conclusions that his comrades have not already found. Still, he hears the wisdom in Ardan's words. "It would seem our companion's keen eye would guide as correct. Sir Ardan, I trust your judgement."

Vale comes up next to Terrel. "It would seem our course of action is set then. Please allow me to offer you this blessing." Vale begins the simple incantation that will lend the aspirant aid in his impending task. cast Guidance

Vale nods to Terrel as he offers himself for the risk of crossing first. "Your willingness to put yourself at risk is noble. I could share a minor blessing of the Dawnflower, it is not much, but would likely give you, if nothing else, a bit lighter step." Vale will cast Guidance on Sir Terrel

Vale slowly walks up to Daniel, "All who aspire to join the Order deserve the chance to be seen in their own light, thus is Dart's choice. We will keep an eye out for him, and should he need it, I will offer the Dawnflower's blessing upon him to get him back on his feet."

Vale likely knows most people, and is on good terms with them, though is not one to seek attention. He is likely the friendly guy that everyone knows, yet no one is super close to (yet, anyway). He is likely closest to Ardan, their fey-influenced ancestry being a source of connection. If Terrel has done any aid work at the various missions supported by the High Priestess of the order, then it is likely he and Vale are more closely acquainted as well.

Vale listened intently while the drillmaster barked his orders. His brother had told him of this part, and what to expect. 'This is the day I have prepared for. This is the moment I have trained my body for. This is the hour I hsve honed my mind for. Now begins the trial that would lead me in the footsteps of my brother and my father before me. True, I enter them as a priest of the Dawnflower rather than a sword and shield, but I will serve the Order all the same.' Cracking his back, tightening his belt, and adjusting the pack on his shoulders, Vale looks around the crowded space. It is when his eyes find the centaur Ardan, waving his hand at him, that Vale sets off in his direction. Hurrying over, only the observant would notice the subtle hitch in his step. It had been years since it had faded from a limo, but there would always be something just a little off to his gate. Not enough to slow him, of course. A subtle smile on his face, Vale reaches the others."It is good to see you all, and I am glad we have the chance to work as a team. So many of the trials are faced as individuals, but once out in the world, we will always have each other, the knights of the Order, at our side. So we begin now today. Trust in each other, and we will make it through. With the Dawnflower's blessing, I am happy to light the way."

Wow, that wasn't a lengthy read through to catch up on all the debate regarding the injury system. Rorek, have you played it all with the Critical Deck that came out from Paizo's GameMastery line at the beginning of Pathfinder? They've been a fixture in my gaming group's table for over a decade, and add a lot of flavor, most notably with injuries and such. Obviously a deck of cards isn't functional in a PbP, but perhaps they have it in a list/rolled format. It also lends to the durability, making some criticals not multiply damage, but instead have an "injury effect" of some sort. There is a matching Fumble Deck which has also lead to some entertaining stories...

1 - Theatre of the Mind is fun, but I have found with larger parties, mapping helps to keep things clear. So I put my vote forward for Roll20.
How did we end up in a "Knights" game without either a Paladin or a Cavalier?! Ha! |
