Profile

Appearance
Pale-skinned and darkly featured, Valestar is a rather slight elf, and many who see him in his simple priestly vestments might mistake him for a cloistered monk. Yet his small frame belies a considerable strength and fortitude not common in his kind. He tends to wear his hair pulled back on the sides to keep the rest of his loose mane behind his head. When in the field with the order, he dons a weathered set of leather lamellar, something handed down to him by his father and brother, and pairs it with a stout wooden shield. He is equally at home with a blade or bludgeon in his hand, and has a modest skill with the bow (though admittedly no real affinity for it).

Personality
Valestar, or "Vale" as he prefers to be called, is a kind, insightful young man. Having found the faith of the Dawnflower despite his family's heritage as devouted servants of Iomedae, Vale has taken heavily to the teachings of High Priestess Silvia, and commits much of his time to duties of charity and aid to the weak and poor. Though he has not adopted a vow of nonviolence as she espouses, he is slow to draw his blade, knowing that bloodshed should be the last resort. He is keen to offer aid to all in need, seeing it as his duty as both a Knight of the Order and a servant of the Everlight. Vale has simple tastes and little want for material wealth, preferring instead good company and the satisfaction that each day he leaves the world a little better than it was the day before.

Background
Joining the order has always been an expectation in Vale's life. Both his father and brother have served dutifully as hallowed nights of Iomedae, pledged in service to the order. He has been raised on the tales of their exploits, and growing up within the walls of Fort Arrak, has been surrounded by not only them but much of the Order's strength. Yet ever one to stand apart, As much as Vale followed his kin, he did it in his own manner.

Well still a boy, Vale was struck by a runaway wagon being pulled by a spooked horse. Terrified and in great pain, Vale had become lost in the fortress city, and wandered through alleys for some hours. His father and brother were away on duty, and his mother was at home, oblivious to his plight. Whether by luck or divine blessing, a servant of Sarenrae happened upon the injured child, half unconscious. Delirious with pain, Vale remembers little of the next hours, but can hear her soft, angelic voice. When he finally came to, his wounds have been bandaged, the breaks set, and magic used to mend much of the damage. Yet the complexity left it somewhat flawed, and magic could only do so much, and even with much retraining, Vale to this day walks with a minor limp and an almost too straight posture.

Vale never found out who it was that had saved his life. Yet their selfless act inspired him in a way that the valorous heroics of his father and brother, and the other knights before them, never had. It took a great deal to convince his father to allow him to seek the priesthood of the Dawnflower as his vocation in the Order. Though young, Vale's argument was sound, and his father gave in and supported his son's membership as he so wished.

Despite the remnants of his injury, Vale worked hard to train his body to keep up with the others. Perhaps because of this, he developed a strength and fortitude far beyond that of much of his kin, and definitely surprising for his small stature. He showed a capability with the blade, you had a mastery in his piety. And despite his gifts granted by the Dawnflower, he also invested heavily in studying the mundane arts of healing, hoping to be able to combine both his skilled hands and blessings of faith to help those in need.

Questionnaire:

What is your relationship to the gods and religion?
Valestar is a devout servant of Sarenrae. He views the benevolent Gods as leaders and champions of the people and is happy to serve alongside their followers, seeking to connect with them on the common ground of their faiths. , and evil deities as a cursed temptation on the intelligent races. He sees himself as a protector the the weak and a mender of the infirm, as directed by his deity. He is al

-What is your physical appearance, bearing, mannerisms, and quirks?
(appearance, see above) Vale carries himself with a soft, yet erect posture. He frequently rests his hands on the opposite forearm, whether tucked up under his vestment sleeves or upon his gauntleted arms, it matters little. He also tends to slightly nod, as though in seeming agreement, as people speak to him. An attentive eye will note the remnants of a limp on his left side, the product of a childhood injury to his leg and hip that has left him far less agile than is normal for an elf.

-Do you have an easy way with strangers?
Vale's kind, benevolent nature makes him easily approachable to strangers, especially those in need. Only those who outwardly act with cruelty and malice will face his stern side, at which point the mercy of the Dawnflower will be the furthest thing from his mind.

-Do you play well with others?
Community is at the heart of Vale's personal ethos, and he strives to be open minded and accepting of others, even if their views differ from his own.

-What draws you to the life of an adventurer?
Those who pledge their life to the Dawnflower commit to a path of healing the sick and injured, protecting the weak, helping those seeking to repent their past ways, and striking down those wicked to be redeemed.

-Do you identify with a particular animal or element? if so, why?
A servant of the Healing Flame, Vale has a connection to fire. His manner is akin to that of the warming hearthfire that shepherds the weak through a cold winter night. Yet those of evil intent should be wary, for even the smallest of embers can be fueled back into the raging flame.

-What do you find creepy?
The undead, and especially those who would seek to become one, are anethema to Vale. He also has a severe distaste for those who would harm children and the elderly.

-What specific goals do you have, if any?
Vale seeks to serve as a righteous yet humble knight. The product of a family of knights, he obviously wants to make them proud, and hopes perhaps to someday stand side by side with them on the field of battle, protecting his people from the evils of the world.

-What secrets do you have?
in studying the healing arts, Vale has developed a proficiency with the study of herbs. While a pragmatic knowledge to develop, he has a soft spot for the growing of these many tender plants, and helps the clergy with such things when he can.

-What does someone else know about you that you do not?
Vale's biggest secret is one kept even from himself. The servant of the Dawnflower who rescued him as a child was none other than the high priestess Silvia. She has never let this fact be known, whether to who Vale or his father, But follows intently the young cleric's progress.

-Do the ends justify the means?
There are times that lines must be crossed, and even the good are forced to venture into the gray. Yet it is most dangerous to do so, for the path of darkness starts in the slightest of shadows...

-What is Right?, What is wrong?
It is right to help those in need, to protect the weak and the innocent, to heal the infirm, to redeem the penitent, to stand against the ruthless, and to serve those who dutifully and justly seek to help others. It is wrong to lie, cheat, and steal, to willfully bring malice towards others, to take more than his fair, and to abuse power.
