About Valais

Non-spoilery Backstory:

Valais Durant grew up to a relatively sheltered life as the only child to her well-to-do merchant parents in Caliphas. She was a bright, retiring, and thoughtful bookworm with an earnest heart, but she yearned for adventure and discovery beyond the world of parents. Despite their objections, she ignored their business and went to study archaeology at the University of Lepidstadt with the plans to eventually become a Pathfinder. Her luck was with her, as that one class she took in Androffan got her scouted right out of school, and she received a fast-tracked field commission to help the Society out with their investigtions in Numeria. The constant danger of exploring the Technic League's base of power quickly soured her on the adventuring life, however, and after several years of near-misses and quick escapes, she requested a more quiet position at the lodge in Nerosyan.

Here, her luck took a turn for the worst. Falling victim to a depraved and evil demonologist, she was combined with two different demons, a babau and a kalavakus, into a kind of amalgamation. While she is no longer "clever" as she used to be, the goodness of her heart has been so strong that she has been able to keep two demons in-check within her, even being able to draw upon their knowledge and combat expertise to fight.

As part of her recovery, she has been staying at the Temple of Empyreal Enlightment, a lovely quiet monastery to Korada in the Haojin Tapestry. She is told that she once saved the monastery from a great evil as part of a Pathfinder team, though her damaged mind has trouble recalling the memories. In the mean time, she has taken to learning their techniques, as well as trying to recover her former skills as an archaeologist.
