Liberty's Edge

4 people marked this as a favorite.

I would like to Earn a boon. Not get Lucky with a die roll. I am 0 for 20 games now. I gave away the boons, I did not need at the time, years ago. Poor characters

Liberty's Edge

I check the season PFS guide. Was unaware of Additional Resources. I tend to stick to core. But will double check everything.

Liberty's Edge

It's not just a Trait swap. It would be a Paladin who has to change religions. Total rebuild.
Yes, Piazo makes products. Now Know to wait before buying new books.

Liberty's Edge

There was a Lot of Talk about "The Healer's Handbook" and a very cool Sarenrae religious trait- Envoy of healing (when using:channeling heal,Lay on Hands" re-roll 1's, If a 1 again must take it).
I play lots of Clerics of Sarenrae.

I ordered the book and it arrived "During a Online Game Con." That day, I built and Played a new PC's with that Trait.
Additional resources came out months later, and removed from PFS.
(I spent $15.00 to use a trait, and Can't use it)

Now what do I do with the new PC? I built a Paladin and dipped 1 level Cleric at 3rd. I went Sarenrae just for the Trait. ( Travel Domain is best for tanks ) I would have chosen another Diety.

When my error was pointed out. " There are no rules saying you Can use the trait in PFS".
Do we NOT buy new books until the PFS group gives it's "stamp of approval"? It's from Piazo. Not a 3rd party book.

I purchased the Advanced Race Guide to get a Aasimar but the rule changed. Need Boon (25 convention games no boons won). Wand of Abundant Ammo, Nerf. (Bought a book for a cool spell) "If the Wand is full charged may sell back for 2PP, if used 1PP." Now this.
I am sure others are in the same Spot. What do we do.

Liberty's Edge

Thanks got answer on Discord.

Liberty's Edge

AP# 92 Giant's pledge has a item Glory Medallion Dedicated to Iomedae. Is it available to Clerics of Sarenrae and other gods?

Can a Phylactery of Channeling be made into another item. like a crown? It and the Headbands share the same place.

As above:"Technically, the knight is using her entire body. Held in the hand and tucked under the arm against the body." A melee weapon is held in the hand or with 2 hands. We can argue how weapons are used and how the whole body goes into the swing.
This weapon is the exception. It is classified as a "2 handed weapon" while mounted Knights are able to use it with 1 hand/body.

Liberty's Edge

The lance in the Core book. Says a Lance can be used with 1 hand while mounted. Do they get the 2 handed bonus, 1.5 X Strength bonus? Technically, the knight is using her entire body. Held in the hand and tucked under the arm against the body. I have never seen a Jousting knight use 2 hands on the weapon. Does this mean that "The Mounted lancer" will never receive the X 1.5 strength bonus.
I don't think the FAQ "bastard sword" applies here.
(I just had a funny vision of a line of several hobbits running with a full size Lance.)

Liberty's Edge

The lance is held in your hand and tucked under the arm. A Bastard sword is held "just with the hand" the whole body and arm hold the lance. I have never seen "jousting" with 2 hands on the lance. It could be an exception to the rule and needs to be brought to another section.
Thanks for the input

Liberty's Edge

Now we are talking about "when a stat applies". Does a mounted Knight with a lance and shield get the (str X 1.5) mod for a 2 handed weapon?
While we are having heated discussions. I want add fuel to the fire. With another stupid question. My GM says, NO but I disagree.

Liberty's Edge

I love Pathfinder Society. I like the fact that I can play a character with different GM's at Different locations. I have played some games on Roll20. Which was great to level up characters and start new ones.
I have made an investment in PF books and have Not looked at 4th &5th ed D&D. Don't plan to.
I have played several table top miniature war games. Going from D&D 1st/2nd ed. To 3.5 was not too hard. I found PFS at a game convention and got hooked.

Liberty's Edge

I play PFS Clerics at Game Cons (mostly different GM's each game) and some PF RPG's on roll20. Honestly all Gm's don't know unless they know All the rules or play Clerics.
The ability starts @ 8th level, I only have 2 PC's that high. So the GM might not have had that ability.
Being a GM is difficult. With so many class/sub classes ect.
I like your reply and think unless at the start of my turn I state "I will de-activate the Nimbus", it is still active. Free action.
Thank you. I just want it "carved in stone" So I have the correct rules.

Liberty's Edge

I play PFS/PF RPG and mostly Clerics. I have a few clerics of Sarenrae with the Sun Domain. How do I use "Nimbus of light"?
I looked it up in the Rules section and found a post from 2009
"What type of action is it to activate/deactivate Nimbus of Light (Cleric Sun Domain ability)?
Posted Answer: standard action unless it says otherwise.
Myself do not agree. I have served my deity for 8 levels. I think it should be like a Paladin's" Lay on hands-self" Swift action. Was hoping it was updated.
So How do I use the ability?
Level 8 Cleric.(use 8 rounds)
Turn 1. Move action: Get into Position, Standard Action: Activate "Nimbus", {Undead take damage, Darkness dispelled ect. }That is 1 of 8 "uses per day"
Turn 2. Nimbus is still activated (?) I get a move and a standard action.
As my standard action I channel energy to harm undead. Nimbus "does it's thing" 2 of 8 uses.
End of Turn. All undead are destroyed. But Other opponents are still in combat.
Turn 3. I no longer need the Nimbus of light ability. On my Standard action do I De-Activate it? and use another "usage 3 of 8".
Or on my standard action I am free to "cast a spell or attack" as normal.
I am sorry if this seems Stupid but I will be reaching level 8 or play a cleric with this ability and want to Do it corectly. Thank You.

Liberty's Edge

Thank you. Now I know spells like restoration cost 100 gp to cast. Clerics have a high cost of "doing their job". We want to restore those ability drained Warriors. My very first game a Cleric said" he wanted a GP from each of us or he would not heal the party members". I though he was being a jerk but now I understand.

Liberty's Edge

I have read some where that PFS uses "Eschew materials". At what level spells do material components come into play. I play a cleric and just got 2nd level spells. I am looking into higher level spells to plan and not to "cheat by mistake"
I didn't see anything in the PFS primer or the current Guide.

Liberty's Edge

How about a Paladin of the Grand Lodge? Having a Oath to serve the pathfinder VC?

Liberty's Edge

{Robertness; That is the mission in Question.}
I always use Diplomacy to avoid having to fight. In a old, past mission, we found a easy Diplomatic solution to a minor encounter. ( I had to laugh when the "other"table was in combat with the same NPCs). Some players have a "Kill them all" attitude. I was fooled by a Evil outsider, where I should have attacked.
Thanks for your input.

Liberty's Edge

Does a PFS mission assigned by the Venture Captain allow violations in class?
As a Cleric,I am proud to serve Sarenrae and preach the gospel.
(don't want to be a spoiler)I played a game where the party had to infiltrate a area controlled by opponents. We had to hide our identity.
Many of us felt very uncomfortable doing this.
I am considering playing a Paladin. Hiding the fact that she/he is a Paladin is sort of a lie. When the mission is assigned, should some PC's say "I can't go on this mission, it is a violation of my code".
Do the Goals of a PFS mission allow for minor indiscretions?
We also pledged to further the goals of the Pathfinder Society.

Liberty's Edge

Looking for an Aasimar boon, love Clerics.

Liberty's Edge

I don't have any really good boons but I really want a Aasimar race boon. I purchased the book (ARG) over the summer, then the rules changed.
I have things like a treasure map boon. A Paizo gift certificate is legal for trade?

Liberty's Edge

Is there a current discussion board for trading boons?
Just because you go to a convention, does not mean you will get a good boon. I only play PFS 2 times a year at local game cons. (8 games over the weekend). I got Treasure map and other lesser boons.
I asked at each table to trade for an Aasimar. (Being the only Human at many tables,I can see the reason for the restriction.)

But I purchased the ARG over the summer, then the rule change happened. I think, If a person buys the book they should be able to have at least 1 PFS character before needing a special boon to play an Aasimar. (I love Clerics!!)

Liberty's Edge

I purchased the book. Can I purchase a racial boon. I would like to start an Aasimar.

Liberty's Edge

I play PFS and my oldest, highest character is a cleric 9th level. Our PF RPG group topped out at 7th level. (the GM had us roll 2 characters)He stopped the high level group and we are going to now play our other 1st levels.( looking forward to a female gnome druid with a gnome Wiz in the group)
Most adventures are Fixed/Set in stone. {The GM threw in a maze/trap area where the Horses could not go. Had to set them free.} I don't think PFS GM could change anything.
When I played 2nd ed. D&D the highest I got was a 18th level Magic user and that was after years of play.
I stopped looking at stats above 10th level. Although DunDraCon in NorCal. is going to have a 13-15 level game.

I don't like Archetypes. They seem to take away a Core aspect of the class.

My 7th level fighter was a combat reflex,(reach) Power attack/cleave, Then I went mounted Knight (When I needed to close with long range archers )next he is going for Archery skills.
I understand the downfall of "1 trick pony's".

Liberty's Edge

Sorry my spelling stinks, when tired. WANDS

Liberty's Edge

I have decided to go Human. I like the extra feat. I am going to start with 1 level of Fighter to get all 3 feats: Mounted Combat,Ride by attack and spirited charge. {I know I would be a level behind but the Archetypes always take away something important. The Cavalier Should start with Mounted combat or not require it to move on in Feats}

At 3 HD I will work on melee combat.
Order of the Dragon: I need the + to hit and Perception is Important.
Sword and Board when not using the lance. I will have a shield with the lance.

A narrow frame Horse. and hopefully the Carry Companion ability. Scroll or wound to give to a spell caster. The Figurine would be out of my price range.
Can a Cleric use a (Druid/Ranger/Paladin) Wound?
Thanks

Liberty's Edge

The spell "Carry Companion" seems good but I can't find it in the spell index. What book? class? ect. is it.

Liberty's Edge

PFS must have the book to use the information. It's hard to keep up, when PFS is only 2 cons a year. PF RPG GM limits books. :(
I am considering Hiring a GM for a few games.
To have your mount have a Class?

Liberty's Edge

Thank you for all of your input. There is so much to take in. I would like to start a new PC for game Cons playing PFS games. Never the same Group or GM. I do get a basic choice on adventure. but situations change. The only mounted PC I have traveled with (in PFS) were small riding dogs.
Some Archetypes are cool but they always take away a Core part of the Cavalier.
My PF RPG games always top out at 7th level. Most players do Dip into ranger. I see a lot of Archer Rangers in PFS.
Thanks TarkXT for the guides.-David

Liberty's Edge

A Samari or Archer in Japan had his bow for a Year before he got any arrows. I don't like to take Neg to hit because I roll bad a lot, on my attack dice or important rolls.

Liberty's Edge

"I decided to play a centaur so I could be both rider and mount when wielding my lance." Do you have to have mounted combat to get: ride by attack and spirited charge with your Centaur. I did see him in the back of the book. too bad can't use him for PFS.

Liberty's Edge

Archetypes always make the class better, where it should be but remove key parts.

Liberty's Edge

Correction; I was thinking the PC's archetypes. Not mount.

Liberty's Edge

I have to stick to more basic books. This is for PFS. some games are Core.
I always play Human for the 2 feats at the start. My Human fighter was able to have Mounted Combat, ride by,Spirited charge.

I will have to start with a Dog. Then Wolf. A lizard or something that flies would be nice. Anything is basic books are available in PFS.
I wanted good climb and Acrobatics skills. Good Dex.
(Perception is always the main focus of all my characters.)

A small person starts with 1 Feat. A lance does 1d6. Most of them take a neg on Str. Weapon Finesse won't work with a lance. Does he have to take mounted Combat feat to fight riding his mount?
I always felt that the Cavalier should have Mounted Combat free.
I like the charger arc but Teamwork was one of the boon of the class.
Beast lord? getting strong creatures and fighting flank with them.
Thanks for the input.

Liberty's Edge

Charger damage focus.

Liberty's Edge

Thank you all. I think for my next PFS character: Cavalier, Halfling order of the paw. 20 point build. How do I build it to be effective. What feats should I take? It will max out at 10th level.
Everyone provided many good ideas for my PF RGP group.

Liberty's Edge

What books do you find these things? I found Aasimar in Av race guide. Where is Azta? Daring champion. I don't know what a Panche point is.
I mostly play PFS human clerics at game conventions.
I just started with a group that plays PFRPG where I can use the other books. I just purchased Adv PG,race guide and Ultimate combat. too bad PFS got rid of Aasimar's unless you already have one or have a boon sheet.

I normally gave my boon sheets to the GM to say "thank you" for running a game at the con.

Morge40K, do you play WH 40K? Thanks -David

Liberty's Edge

Thank you for your input. Thanks "My self" for the diagram of battle field control. I looked through the books last night, (Insomnia)No diagrams of Reach weapons.
Mourge40K: " Azata-Blooded Aasimar Daring Champion" Is in the adv race guide? I have only played humans. (btw you play 40k?;Space wolves rule!!)

I want to start a new character for the convention season.I Play PFS at Game cons, which has limited the "other" races. No more Azata-Blooded Aasimar unless already level 1.

Liberty's Edge

So the Cavalier is a Druid/Bard? I look at the pictures and read the Fluff and get the wrong impression.

Liberty's Edge

I always lose A of O to the 5' step. With a 10' reach I have 1 square between me and the opponent. With the 5' step, they safely enter the empty square and attack me. Is my GM and my understanding wrong?. I was looking things up in the rules and can't find the range examples.

Liberty's Edge

sarcastic is fine. at least you gave helpful input.

I am looking over the Cavalier and just don't get it. If he is a mounted terror, why doesn't he start with the Mounted Combat feat?

Besides the advantage of a mount, which is great. A fighter can get the skills via feats at each level. I have not gotten past 10th level, so lets keep it lower level.
I am playing 2 mounted knights, 2 different games. First is just fighter: mounted combat, ride by attack, spirited charge. Challenge does get better at higher levels. Banners help on the Charge. But if you don't have the ride by attack , you only charge 1 then you are in combat.
I know I am missing something. I like humans but when I get a mount, It has to be left behind when we go underground. GM make it difficult to enter with the mount.
would love some build ideas. Halfling would be great.

Pladin, Ranger or Slayer?: Paladin needs Chr stat. Warriors need;Str,con, dex also.Rangers make great archers, in the group already. Slayer not allowed by GM Adv.PG ,race guide only.

Heirloom Weapon Trait only provides use of that weapon?. If I take longbow Heirloom Weapon Trait. I am not proficient with all longbows?

Liberty's Edge

I like the pre-gen druid concept. I play PFS
I want a build a Gnome Druid character that can ride a Dog.
stats:12(for-2)/14/12/12/14/14 This is my first Druid, Don't know what feats to get. Thinking Mounted Combat, ride by @ 3rd?
I want to keep it Core game approved.
I am going to take a Leopard animal companion, with the Combat Reflexes feat. I don't get to play much, I want the 4th level advancement.

How do characters in PFS get Dragon hide armor. Does my group have to slay a dragon then have it's hide made into shields and Armor.

Is the PF player Companion" Animal Archive" PFS usable? I love the picture of the white tiger in armor. (Later I would like to get a battle trained Tiger as a mount.)
I did consider a 1st level fighter dip to use a Lance and have Mounted Combat and ride by attack feats.
Any help from Druids on how to upgrade their Cat companion is appreciated.

Liberty's Edge

Some of us were talking about the commonly available items, should be a little cheaper. I found that Cash limits more than fame.
Like I said, Special items are great. Like Wonds with a few charges.

Liberty's Edge

I only play PFS games. Mostly at game conventions.
Getting ready for a game a player stated "Why are common items the same price on a Chronicle sheet as they are in the book?"
*Some Chronicle sheets have special items and Wonds with only a few charges. Yes, if an items is found early in the game it can be used by the group.
Most adventures begin in a large settlement where Armor and Weapons are at stsndard book prices.

Why don't the players get a Discount on purching commom items from a Chronicle sheet? A +1 Sword is the same cost in a city as "Hard fought" items found in a adventure?

Liberty's Edge

I like the fact that is an Amulet and is on the neck location. Too many useful items are belt location.

Liberty's Edge

I read something about the max amount of gold is 500 per chronicle. What about the PP. How do I change the chartacter's name on the registration section in the website? Thanks for your help.

Liberty's Edge

How do I Rebuild a PFS Character. I have 3 games with pregen Valeros. Game 1 no PFS # The other 2 Chronicle sheets have # 1234-1. I would like to start a new character. Do I change the new character as 1234-1 or do I start with a new Character number. 1234-2?
When I play the new character do Start on Chronicle game 4 as a level 2 character?
