I agree, it's no different than the paired size modifiers to AC and to-hit. Balance-wise, it'd make halflings unfairly effective Rogues (+4 to stealth and perception), but in reality it'd be much easier to notice the cracks in a wall that indicate a secret door if they were twice the relative size.


The way I see it, this represents a Rogue learning a few 'wizardy' tricks. They're not really SLA (at least not in the same way Wizard/Cleric SLAs are), but they sidestep having to give the Rogue with that talent an actual spell progression, and to restrict them to the small amount of magical talent they've 'borrowed' from some poor fool's spellbook. They're Int-based because they're practiced and learned, rather than a manifestation of existing magical power.


Compare the Eldritch Knight to the [Illithid] Slayer from the XPH or the SRD. It's got the same BAB, saves and caster/manifester progression, as well as a load of class abilities. Doesn't really make the Eldritch Knight look worthwhile.
