As I chose my avatar for this forum, I found some glitches.

1. The first problem I discovered is that the filters/search for Type does not work well with the Types actually on many avatars. When I went to pick my avatar, I searched for Shirren and there were only 2 options shown. Now after looking through every single page of avatars I've counted 13 avatars with Type: Shirren, including my new avatar. 11 of them can't be found by filtering/searching.

Likewise, searching/filtering for Ratfolk only brings up 5 avatars, but there are actually 20. Most are type Ysoki (which you can't search for) and one is type Monstrous Humanoid. I think there are more Android avatars than come up by searching, too.

There are 2 Lizardfolk and 1 Kenku with Type: Monstrous Humanoid instead of Reptilian and Tengu.
Reptilian and Repitilian are both searchable options. Several avatars are type “Repitilian”.
There’s an odd situation in which the Werebat-kin, Werecrocodile-kin, and Skinwalker are all type Shapechanger, but the Were-Kyra (which looks like a gnoll) is type Human.

Several avatars have types that are not search/filter options: Artificial Intelligence, Centaur, Fetchling, Gillman, Gray, Grippli, Humanoid (not monstrous humanoid), Kasatha, Kish, Munravi, Ord, Samsaran, Sarcesian, Strix, Vesk, Vishkanya, Wayang, and Wyvaran. But these types are not search/filter options. Vesk and Wyvaran doen’t show up under Reptilian or 'Repitilian'.

.

2. While looking for an avatar I continuously had to deal with this problem. The description box for each avatar takes up a lot of vertical space – in many cases, it’s too tall to fit on my widescreen laptop monitor. It’s especially a problem when subtype and/or deity are listed. To fit this on my screen I would have to zoom out, making the avatars small and hard to see clearly. I’ve noticed that many other parts of this website are designed to fit only on a narrower, taller monitor and don’t adapt to the shape of my monitor, leaving wide left and right margins and making lots of stuff disappear down the bottom of my screen. Avatar selection is an especially problematic example. Yes, I can scroll down (usually) but the way it’s designed, I can only see a fraction of the intended screen image/information/whatever at once. In this case I have to scroll down until the avatar is out of sight to read the bottom of the description. In several cases in the bottom row of each page, I can’t scroll down far enough to see the bottom of the description at all, because it disappears into the big blue and black area at the bottom of the website.

.

2. While manually searching for a new Shirren avatar, I found that several avatars have no name or description, and no source. Some are currently being “used by -1 people”. Sorting by usage doesn’t gather them at the end, in fact it doesn’t seem to sort by how many use the avatar. These are all the ones I found, sorted by date:

  • Grey humanoid with pointed ears, glowy red eyes, and a wolf/bear head on their head. Sorted by date, is between Muldnal and Bregga Dreamstalker. -1 users
  • ^ Similar-looking humanoid with no hat. Is between Ibzairiak the Dragon and Dearga Finlay. 0 users
  • A copy of Archbaron Darellus Fex. Is between Ginerva and Donarda Gedraedius. Has -1 users
  • 2 in a row with -1 users each: a 4-eyed, tentacled, horned, blue something and an upset-looking elf with a forehead tattoo. They are in between The First Warden and Natsiel.
  • Blue Shirren with gold armor and red goggles, in between a Human Technomancer (named “Technomancer”) and a Human Ace Pilot. 1 user.
  • 2 in a row, 1 user and 3 users. Angry, glowing eyed, blueish woman and a human man. They’re in between Yamtisy and Captain Jemma Redclaw.
  • Apparently a Kitsune, used by 15 people, in between Reiko and a Human Summoner named “Summoner”
  • Blue humanoid with antlers and white eyes. Between Giant Killer and Fire Giant. 1 user.
  • Irritated looking redhead Human man. 3 users. In between 2 of Lictor Octavio Sabinus and looks like the same guy, I think.
  • Orkish looking green person. 0 users. In between Ewigga and Urnsul.
  • Veiled humanoid. 6 users. In between Adowyn and Seltyiel.
  • Humanoid woman with an icicle crown, used by 14 people. Between Ezren and Riftwarden.
  • Shouting human man, in between a Black Dragon from Dragons Revisited and a Red Dragon from ?. 34 users.
  • Man in a purple beret, in between Drizz’t miniature and cartoon Wil Save. 15 users.

4. An unrelated problem is that the text formatting to create a list doesn't work on this forum, as you can see above.

Does Shirren Blindsense (vibration, antennae) still work while wearing armor/a space suit, with the helmet on?

What about Blindsense and blindsight for other characters?

1. As far as I can tell, Armor Check penalties do not penalize attack rolls. Is this correct?

2. Drawing things quickly, when action economy matters: do I ever need a separate action to draw a grenade in combat? I assume I don't need an action to draw a gun or knife.

3. SFS and languages. If I'm making a character for SFS using only the core, am I allowed to have my PC speak Nchaki, Arkanen, and/or Barathu? Am I allowed to have them grow up on Nchak or Osoro, and specifically are there any Shirren populations on those moons? I'd think there are Shirren on Nchak, but I don't know.

Is there anywhere a concise and clear list of which things about a character progress according to the character's total levels, and which things progress according to the class level they are adding at the moment? I'm hoping for a rundown of everything on the character sheet, skill ranks, feats, level prerequisites, item availability, SFS tier, everything.

Please keep in mind that I don't know anything about Pathfinder nor what all those abbreviations mean, and I don't yet have a corebook.

Hello all,

I’m very new to Starfinder and looking for advice for finishing my 701 character, please. :) (apologies for very long post)

I tried Starfinder at a convention (as Keskodai). Although I was hoping for more scifi and less fantasy, I liked it enough to try making my own character for SFS afterwards. I can only play SFS online and at conventions. I don’t know if I’ll play only a little and then get bored, or if I’ll keep playing for years, so I’m not yet ready to buy books.

I’ve done most of the work (with GM help) building Ts*eki, a Shirren Mystic Healer, using only SPS-legal CRB stuff on aonsrd.com. What I have so far is here: https://paizo.com/people/TsEki. I only have a few things left to choose for Ts*eki: age, homeworld, 2 language slots, 1 level 1 spell slot, and some more items.

The thing is, my character concept is very hard to do with the current classes, and now I've found out Biohackers are closer. But they come out in November, and I’d rather play some more before deciding whether to buy books. Also, the playtest Biohacker mostly lacks healing abilities and has none at level 1 (I know the published version will differ in unknown ways).
.

This is my concept: Ts*eki is inspired by Dr. Franklin from Babylon 5, and my own interest in biology and ecology. Ze’s a scientific/technological doctor, biomedical researcher, and xenobiologist. Ze is fascinated by the variety of life in the solar system, and dreams of exploring Near Space and the Vast. Ze wants to learn about all the life out there: if it’s friendly, let’s make friends and learn how to give them the best modern medicine and health that science and magic can supply. If it’s unfriendly, let’s create antidotes for all the poisons, toxins, and diseases it carries. If it’s ethical to harvest it, what new medical compounds and other useful things can we make out of it? (And does it taste good?) Ze loves learning about ecosystems, how they fit together, and how sapients of all kinds fit into them. Ze believes in a mystic connection or life-force between all living things, including bio-augmentations, and uses zir psionics to reach that life-force. However, ze’s more doctor than ecologist, and more scientist than mystic.

I refluffed Ts*eki’s magical healing as a combination of single-use biological nanobots and psionic psychohealing. Ze has a (fluff) biotech implant in zir hand which synthesizes a X number of bionanites per day, which can be used for “instant” healing but die after 24 hours.

Roles: I hope to play Ts*eki as support and healing, mid-range (~30 ft), closing to melee as rarely as possible. In spaceships I hope to be able to play at least a competent Science Officer, and even better if I have a 2nd role I can fall back on.
.

So should I multiclass Mystic and Biohacker? I have a loose plan to:

1. Finish Ts*eki as a Mystic Healer 1
2. Play 1-2 SFS scenarios online
3. Decide whether I’ll buy the new Character Operation Manual
4. Assuming I will, rebuild Ts*eki to make sure ze will combine well with Biohacker
5. Level up to 2nd, and take Biohacker (intuitive) 1

So I have some requests for advice:
1. Is my build decent/good so far? Have I made any illegal mistakes? I’m more interested in concept than optimizing, but I don’t want Ts*eki to die or be useless.
2. Using just the core book, can Ts*eki be from Nchak or Osoro and speak Nchaki or Arkanen or Barathu? Are there Shirren communities on either of those moons? Or will I be able to rebuild to have that homeworld and language combo when the COM comes out?
3. Can I earn my 3rd XP, rebuild my character at level 1, and then apply the 3rd XP and level up? If I can I want to get a 3rd game of experience before deciding how much I want to invest in/play Starfinder.
4. How much would I lose by multiclassing? Is it worth it, or too much of a detriment? Or is it too soon to know before Biohackers are published? I’m OK with leveling up slowly, but not with being significantly underpowered for whatever tier(s) I play in.
5. Assuming my level 1 is Mystic, which class should be primary and which should be the dip? How many levels should I dip into? If I don’t decide until level 3, will it matter at all for how I build now?
6. Anything I should change now to prepare for multiclassing with Biohacker? What’s a suitable injection weapon? I know nobody knows the final class details, but I’d like to prepare now as much as I can.
7. Is profession a waste of time? I’ve read that it never earns much money. Should I move a skill rank to some other skill, and use downtime to craft healing serums instead? (can I remove the skill rank and still have a profession?)
8. Can I please get advice on what spell and items to add to finish the character?

Right now I’m considering Remove Condition (Lesser) and Share Language for my final spell. How does Wildwise Implant compare to Share Language?
For items I have 943 credits left, and there are a lot of things I’m considering buying that I may need: Wildwise Implant, a better weapon, Freebooter Armor, smoke or shock grenade, Hideaway Leg, Datajack Implant, Tier 1 upgrade to the comm unit in my armor (can I do that? is it a bad idea since I’ll replace armor eventually?), Gear Clamp, Healing Serums, Simple Lock, Grappling Hook, more clothes, Messkit, Bedroll, or a Blanket.

Hi, earlier today I could reach https://www.aonsrd.com/ fine. But suddenly, this evening, it stopped loading.

All it loads now is a blank white screen and the message:
"Error detected by Application Firewall. Please contact support if you have any questions."

I get the exact same error message in Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer.

I don't know who this "support" are but there's no method suggested to contact them, whoever they are.

https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ claims the website is up for everyone else, but I have never seen this error before in my life. It doesn't look like any problem I've ever had with a browser being incompatible with a website, and my browsers and firewall certainly didn't change in any way today. Nor does it resemble any connectivity or website certificate problem I've ever seen, and no other website is doing this on my computer.

Hi,

I'm very new to Starfinder, I've only played in one convention. I heard that the Scoured Stars Incident is very important to the setting, and also that there was an important Adventure Path or something that recently wrapped up that storyline.

With my 01 character at level 1, and Organized Play moving to a new storyline each "season", and OP being the only venue I'm likely to play in, I figure I won't ever end up playing through the previous season(s) of storyline.

But! I'm curious what "happened" and I figure my character will want to know too. (I've read the info in the Roleplaying Guild Guide, but there seems to be more that I don't know...)

So is anyone willing to please explain the metaplot "up to now" to a newbie? Or at least those parts that aren't likely to be played again in OP. (Unless spoilering myself as a newbie is likely to ruin my fun.)

Simple question for the community: what's the name of the galaxy where all the action happens? Does it have a name?
