Marshal:
"Arthur's beliefs are, indeed, outdated. Tell me, when you took your plan in hand, who did you imagine rising to the top? Remember, when a system is thrust into chaos, someone will still eventually rise as the next leader. Without a hand to guide such things, men will fight and bite at each other until they take what they want. No, this world needs leaders and you are right to question Arthur and his kind; however, I think your skills can be used for even better things." Trivia smiles, a teacher kindly correcting a student. "There is a woman in Ashland by the name of Nadine Holt. She needs guidance as well as a helping hand in dealing with a group of thugs, little boys with guns and too big britches. If we can solve the problems of Ashland, well...having someone on our side ruling in this region would certainly be of a benefit. Let's put aside the idea of sowing a little chaos in this tiny place and look towards something bigger."

Trivia holds out a hand for the bound tome. "May I?" She flips through the book quickly, seeing if she can gather any information about what exactly Morgan is up to.

"You said the Ashlanders attacked first? Any idea why?"
Once Trivia gets a bit more information, she steers the conversation towards the other demonic work that she saw recently and if Morgan knows anything about that.
Grim Servant o' Death Toughness: 5/Parry: 5/Charisma: +2
Trivia wracks her brain, trying to recall the gesture Morgan first made as well as connect it to anything she has seen before.
Smarts:1d8 ⇒ 5 Wild Die:1d6 ⇒ 1
Believing that she has at least some idea of what the gesture means and wanting to put Morgan at ease, Trivia responds with the correct gesture. "Of course, you are correct. Forgive me, I suppose I was a bit too excited by the handiwork."
If Morgan seems to be at ease, Trivia will suggest they sit down somewhere near by. Trivia wants to know what Morgan is up to, so she will be playing it as if she has come to check the progress here.
Grim Servant o' Death Toughness: 5/Parry: 5/Charisma: +2
I can only assume they are using shit to keep their beer cold. And the tents are made out of shit. Everything here is shit and we are rolling around in it.
Trivia overhears Xander and Lucas. Subtle they are not. Trivia manages to hide her wince. Turning to Morgan once more, she lowers her voice. "If everything I am hearing about Ashland is true, can't say I much blame someone for setting something on them. Revenge is one of the few pleasures we still have in this shit show of a world."
Grim Servant o' Death Toughness: 5/Parry: 5/Charisma: +2
Trivia eyes the group warily. She doesn't know why Morgan seemed interested in her and it sets her teeth on edge. Just what she needs: someone mistaking her for another Daughter.
Seeing that Adam and Lucas are busy chatting up other people, she leans in and whispers to Xander. "Saw a shrine while we were coming in. Looks like voodoo. I don't know much about that sort of thing, but some of the things out there could be used in demon summoning. The bones especially make me worried, but I couldn't tell what the bones came from."
With that, Trivia makes her way over to Morgan. She gives her own shy smile and lowers her voice. "Been a bit since I've seen work like that outside. I'm guessing it's your's."
Grim Servant o' Death Toughness: 5/Parry: 5/Charisma: +2
"Looks like she was wearing a necklace. We find the person with that and we might get some answers." Trivia studies the body, taking a close look at the woman's arms and legs to see if there are any marks on her that suggests she had been tied up like the son. It seems strange that the two children were ritualistically killed, but the wife was just disemboweled.
Notice:1d8 ⇒ 4 Wild Die:1d6 ⇒ 3
Unless this thing likes children and she happened to be pregnant. Trivia shudders at the thought, but forces herself to examine the woman for signs that she may have been pregnant.
Healing:1d4 ⇒ 2 Wild Die:1d6 ⇒ 1
She sighs in frustration. The body is badly mangled, so it's hard to tell if the thing responsible for the damage had a specific intent or not. Still, it is something that she will be on the look out for if--when they discover more bodies.
Grim Servant o' Death Toughness: 5/Parry: 5/Charisma: +2
Trivia continues to dig. "We just assumed it was the wife, right? And that all the mess upstairs was her. And that it was Reggie that walked away. It probably is, but there is too much weirdness here not to check. Doesn't make sense for him to bury her, leave the girl, and head to Ashland like his family hadn't just been brutally slaughtered."
She wipes her forehead, leaving a trail of dirt across her face. "The timeline is all wrong. Maybe he went there before this happened, but why leave the family behind if he knew there was something nasty out here?" She shakes her head. "Nah, best to check. Better to get some answers, even if they are gruesome, than to leave here with just a ton of questions. If it's her body, it might give me a better idea why the two kids got the pin-cushion treatment and she didn't."
Mid-digging, she glances up at Adam. "You got something." She gestures to her nose. "If this is going to upset you, I suggest you go scrounging with Xander."Didn't take sykers for the squeamish type. He's acting like this is personal or something.
Grim Servant o' Death Toughness: 5/Parry: 5/Charisma: +2
"What kind of man buries his wife but leaves his baby girl hanging up like a slab of meat? No, I think he's involved in this somehow." She scratches her cheek, deep in thought.
"And if this happened here, how'd the son end up next to the road? Nah, think ol' daddy is up to something or at least knows why this happened. He was turned away at Ashland, but no way he's going to survive long on his own. I say we check out Ineptitude or even Josie. Easier to blend in a bigger place. Fewer folks likely to recognize your face. And if Ineptitude gave him the willies," she jerks her thumb over her shoulder at the mutie, "then there may be something going on there, too. Something that might be connected to all of this."
She falls silent and stares at the house. When she next speaks, her voice is soft and troubled. "What kind of man... Did this happen before he went to Ashland for help?
Trivia mutters something under her breath, then heads back towards where the graves are. As she walks away, you notice that she is shaking her head rapidly.
Marshal:
Trivia grabs the nearby shovel and starts digging at the grave that everyone had assumed was the wife's. She's growing increasingly paranoid and wants confirmation of who is actually buried in the grave. If it is the wife, seeing the body might also help explain why she was buried, but the child wasn't.
Grim Servant o' Death Toughness: 5/Parry: 5/Charisma: +2
Decided to have Circe's voice be bold and italics. Really only way I could get it to stand out from Trivia's thoughts. If it gets confusing, let me know.
Bypassing the first floor, Trivia heads upstairs. It's unfortunate that she didn't get a chance to look at the young girl's body before it was disturbed, but she may still be able to gather some information from her room. She inspects the room, from ceiling to floor, ducking under the bed and other furniture for clues at to who (or what) did this.
Notice:1d8 ⇒ 3 Wild Die:1d6 ⇒ 2
She sighs in frustration. Two young kids, brutally murdered. Not a whole lot of innocence left in the world, but if it is to be found, it would be here. Nice home. Caring parents. Well-taken care of.
Is really anything innocent these days? Besides, every now and then a little blood has to be let in order for things to get done.
"Shut up." Trivia covers her ears and tries to compare this to the boy they found earlier. Patterns. Look for patterns. Anything.

The mother is probably grateful to be freed from them. Children can be so disappointing.
"You would know. Mother would have hated you."
She would have CHERISHED me. I am doing HER work.
With both children dead, it does raise the question of where the parents are. No parent would just leave their child to such a gruesome end. Trivia stomps to the parents' room and stops short of the bed. There is no body to identify who the gore on the bed belongs to, but given that all of the clothes and other items left behind belong to a woman...
A man did this.
Trivia clenches her fists, power tingling in her fingertips. "Yes."

While Lucas drives them to the Carter farm, Trivia considers what she has found so far. Is it possible that the animals are actually being put out to *help* the town? If the demon is being used to hurt them, then perhaps someone is trying to break the current master's control? It's a possibility that she finds a lot more comforting than someone in the town actively trying to hurt the rest of the people in their small community.
She flips open her book and tries to see if there is something she has missed or perhaps a spell with similar properties.
Knowledge:Occult:1d4 ⇒ 3 Wild Die:1d6 ⇒ 2
Damn. Despite what people think of my kind, demons aren't the usual wheelhouse of a witch.
"Manual would have known the answer to this. She knew the answer to everything." She rests her head on the door frame of the truck, her expression tight. She hates waiting for more information, but right now all she can do is to wait for the demon--or whatever it is-- to strike again.
I suppose at this point we may need to wait for Mick, since we don't know what is going on at the Carter farm.
Grim Servant o' Death Toughness: 5/Parry: 5/Charisma: +2
"More demons." She hops down from the branch. "Weird, though. Taking a rabbit's foot like that can be used to unbind a demon from its master. Not sure why it'd be hung up like this. Either there is a demon associated with this area that someone is trying to direct towards the town... or..."
She makes a face. "Could be that someone in town is doing something they shouldn't be. If the threat is in the town, rather than out, it might explain some of the curse. I would need to see more of the animal bodies to get an better idea."
Trivia shields her eyes and looks to the horizon. "Or check out any other communities that might be close by. If the same thing is happening to them, it would help make sense of what is happening."

Trivia finally exits the building and quietly approaches Lucas. She still looks a bit rattled, but definitely in better shape than she was a few moments ago. Having caught the tail end of what Alan said, she leans in close to Lucas.
"You should, should, um should, take something out of the truck so they can't just make off with it. If we have to keep it here," she whispers. "Only fair if they say we can't take it with us. Don't trust them." She holds up a finger, then trots off for a moment.
Trivia looks for a secluded spot in the village, somewhere near Nadine's house where she can conduct her experiment outside of prying eyes.
Notice:1d8 ⇒ 4 Wild Die:1d6 ⇒ 2
Satisfied with the spot she has found, she ducks down and digs a small hole, then wraps a piece of jerky in several old rags, and buries it. To make sure no animals will dig it up, she grabs an large rock and marks the spot. Let's see if the food starts going weird like these people are claiming.
Once finished, she grabs Lucas by the elbow and makes for the outside of town. If the animal carcasses are meant as a warning to the town, there has to be one nearby.

Before heading into the town, Trivia yanks a bandanna over her mouth and nose. While she is all for helping these folks, she also isn't much interested in getting whatever they have. She shows no interest in the body and the proceedings. The boy is long dead and she got the information she needed from it.
Once seated in Nadine's kitchen, she wastes little time in getting to the questioning.
"Okay, Carter boy. He and his family from here? Your folks seemed awful certain that a monster or demon did that. What's been going on around here that made them think it was something supernatural and not just a crazy person?
Grim Servant o' Death Toughness: 5/Parry: 5/Charisma: +2
Trivia hops out of the cab of the truck, gas mask slung around her neck. "Thinking you should listen to the woman inside. Sounds like she's got a good head on her shoulders. Ain't no reason to seal yourselves off, if there is a chance of fixing what ails ya. Also I suggest you let her go. No need to harm folks."
She approaches the gate, arms at her sides. "I don't even have a weapon on me. So open the gate and we'll talk. Or at least let us know what's happened to your town." She looks back towards the truck, then at the men on the gate. "It have something to do with the boy that we found? 'cause that was some real nasty work out there."
Impressive, too.
"Would like to know who caused it, so I can make sure it don't happen again.
Grim Servant o' Death Toughness: 5/Parry: 5/Charisma: +2
"Oh, I was just thinking that it would be interesting to try something similar. Hmmm... maybe without the maiming. Demons probably like the maiming. But I imagine capturing them would follow a similar principle, which could be very helpful."
After finishing her task, she hops back into the cab. "Wouldn't it be interesting if there were demon summoners in Ashland? That would be unexpected." She grins, then smacks the outside of the door. "Onward!"
Grim Servant o' Death Toughness: 5/Parry: 5/Charisma: +2
"Possible. Yes. Though if it's a resident things are very bad indeed."
Trivia waves her hand like she is waving away flies. "Yes, yes. Dismantle the demon summoning circle. Demons are bad. But if I was controlling the demons...No. Still bad." She slips her mask back on and turns once more to figuring out the symbols and the best way to break the spell.
She pauses mid-step and spins back around. "Oh! The dog may have been magic and watching the spot for someone. Or it may have just been a dog. But now we don't know. Unless it comes back with its master and they both try to kill us." You get the sense that she is grinning inside her gas mask. "Either way, if I mess this up and demons do show up, please try not to shoot my head off as I am very fond of my head. Unless the demons start to eat me, then please, shoot me in the head." She makes finger guns at Xander. "Alive good. Dinner bad."

Question time!
Jess, A: do we know your character is a witch
And B: do you talk about circe or manual to us? Or have you mentioned those figures to us?
Yep, you all know that she is a witch or at least some sort of magic caster type. She doesn't hide it.
And she probably mutters about Circe and Manual, so at the very least you all have heard that. If you asked her about Manual, she might actually have a hard time articulating that Manual is the program that taught her all about the world prior to the bombs dropping. She would probably end up saying Manual was her teacher.
As for Circe, that may be a little more grey. Because Circe is sort of the source of Trivia's delusions, you may just think she only exists in Trivia's head. Right now, there is no hard evidence Trivia can provide that Circe even exists, especially since she gets a bit agitated when the name is brought up and might starting muttering about Circe having Trivia's face, but isn't Trivia.
Grim Servant o' Death Toughness: 5/Parry: 5/Charisma: +2
Trivia rolls her eyes. For all the talk of men being brave, it seems that most of them remain cowards. She backs away from the body until she is free from the cloud of flies. She pulls her mask up to be better understood.
"Demons. Maybe big ones. Maybe small ones that it'll eat you in little increments." She clicks her teeth together to illustrate, then rubs at her nose, trying to banish the smell. "Surprised that the animals didn't trigger the ritual, but it'd be best we didn't leave it here like this. I think I can dismantle it, but it'll take some time. Best none of ya go pokin' it."
She peers at the dog. Strange that the thing continues to hang out here. Unless... She pulls out another piece of jerky and slowly approaches the dog. "Easy there, pooch. No one here is gonna hurt ya. Just want to make sure you are okay. Where's your master, huh?"
Trivia hopes to get close enough to get a good look at the dog. She's worried that it might be a familiar or under a similar spell. If she can get close enough, here is her roll:

Jessica, what was that Spirit roll for?
I rolled it to account for the fact that Trivia is basically poking at a bunch of guts and getting up close and personal with the dead body in order to examine it. I figured she hasn't seen a lot of really gruesome shit before, so I thought it was appropriate.
Grim Servant o' Death Toughness: 5/Parry: 5/Charisma: +2
Trivia hops down out of the cab and settles her gas mask on her face. Pulling a bit of jerky from her pack, she tosses it in the direction of the dog that recently moved off. She hasn't see a close up look of a dog before and hopes that with the treat, she can lure the dog out.
When it doesn't appear immediately, she carefully makes her way over where Lucas is standing. She's grateful for the mask, if only for the fact that it keeps the flies out of her face. Manual instructed her on the ins and outs of human sacrifice, even if she hasn't actually done it before.

Alright, I'll be starting this thing up shortly. First, I need each of you to provide reasons why you were recruited for this mission by Junkyard (except Mick, who already covered it). Once I get that, we can start.
Trivia volunteered for the mission for two reasons (neither of which are motivated by monetary gain):
1.) She has only been awake for a few months and in that time she has already come to realize the importance of Junkyard. She knows that establishing another foothold for Junkyard could be the key to recovery for what's left of the world.
2.) She is also worried that Circe is behind what is happening in Portland. Even if Circe is not directly connected, taking out the shogun would keep Circe from gaining a potentially powerful ally.
