Torku grunts as he watches his book shift from Forbidden Practices of Nexian Oozecrafters to On the Precedents, Technicalities, and Consequences of Maxam vs Absalom City Council Regarding Permitted Subspecies of Rosa Rubiginosa as he places the Bookmark of Deception inside the pages. "It'll do," he says simply, though his tail betrays his excitement.

Torku doesn't bother extending a hand to Paxal as he irritably fans away the smoke from the other tiefling's cigar.

"Well, I'm off to the tavern to celebrate a job well done."

"Good," he replies curtly. "Then I'll be able to get back to my reading without loud obnoxious disturbances."

"Charming." Torku motions impatiently towards the portal back to the Material Plane. "Can we save the theatrics for later, or shall we all stand around until another war hound wanders by?"

Torku steps over to the fallen dwarf, one hand grabbing the wand from his tail. ”If he’s still alive, this’ll keep him from dying right away,” he mutters irritably.

Frost clings to the tiefling’s blade as though it had just been drawn from a frozen lake in the dead of winter. ”Oh, can you not handle the cold?” he sneers. ”Rhykevance, you can do the same, correct?”

Giving the rapier the Frost Burst enhancement. Also taking a 5 ft step to get off the lava - it shouldn’t get through his resistance, but best not to tempt fate.

”Shit!” Torku pats out the flames licking his clothes, glaring up at the oversized dog. ”A Nessian warhound. Of course.” Holding his blade in front of his face for a moment, he tries to think of an enchantment that’ll make this thing howl in agony. As if of its own mind, the tiefling’s tail plucks a wand from his belt and holds it ready.

Standard action to use Legacy Weapon, but I’d like to wait to pick which enhancement until the results of the Recall Knowledge check are revealed. Move action to draw wand of infernal healing.

Token moved - Torku’s got fire resistance active, so hopefully this doesn’t hurt too much.

”Wonderful.” Torku taps his drawn rapier to his arm. ”I don’t suppose we can petition to have Zarta’s ‘sale’ to Hell invalidated due to the technicality of her not being legal property of the Hellknights, can we? No? Then we should be prepared to fight.”

Casting shield and moving to front. It worked well last time, so Torku will try to draw attention and tank some hits.

Token placed and ready. -4 to mental checks stinks, but it is what it is.

Torku just needs to apply resist energy (fire) to himself and we're good to go.

"Good. Now that we're finally done hemming and hawing..."

Torku turns his back on the nearby cell, deftly twisting the key in the lock with his tail. "Such a shame I didn't see what happened," he says to the other Pathfinders with more glee than sourness in his expression. "Also a shame someone stole this invisibility potion from me." The tail now holds a potion vial next to the unlocked door.

He'll repeat the performance for the other cell as well unless someone else wants to take care of it.

"And schoolgirl! Don't go activating things you don't understand until everyone else is prepared. Or far away."

Given that we've heard it produces fire (and with Hell being like it is), Torku would want to cast resist energy (fire) before activating the portal.

Torku grins wickedly. ”Well, it’s hardly our fault nobody was in these cells down here when we got here,” he drawls. ”I’m not sure how they could determine that Heriphis hadn’t already sold them as well as Zarta to this Archdevil. Such a shame we only were able to rescue one of them, isn’t it?”

Torku is all for sticking it to the Hellknights.

Though given how f&#%ing pissed I am about these Hellknights, I've half a mind to break him out just to spite them, Torku thinks to himself as he cleans his blade on the fallen man's clothes and sheathes it.

"I knew that this woman would be my ending!" he says to himself with a bitter voice.

"Oh sure, play the victim." Torku's voice holds as little softness as his blade. "Don't blame yourself for not just accepting the stupid paperwork and releasing the requested prisoner - no, no, it must be someone else's fault you drew your weapons without provocation on respectful and courteous visitors." Again the rapier dances, seeking a hole in the Hellknight's armor. "I should speak with your manager about this."

Torku briefly considers trying to separate the Hellknight from his weapons, but lets his irritation get the better of him and simply jabs at the man’s throat. ”Oh my, I’m simply quaking in my boots after your harsh words,” he comments snarkily, then adds with a sneer, ”sir.”

"Well that's certainly one way to try to cover up whatever stupid secret you're hiding," Torku snaps, all the bottled frustrations of the day giving his voice a spitfire effect. "What, did Tancred buy your loyalty? You already sold the paracountess to someone else? Or is this just some inane stupidity that comes from wearing full plate all day?" A translucent disk of force forms around the tiefling's arm as he stalks forward, masking a more subtle shimmering dancing around his skin. "Please be honest - I'm sure we'll have to fill out paperwork regarding the incident when we're through with your nonsense." Blade in hand, he waits for the Hellknight's response.

Casting shield as a standard action, activating Mind Barrier as a swift action for 12 temporary hitpoints, and moving (drawing weapon as part of movement).

Great - someone who’s insecure about the size of his nail and feels like he has to compensate somehow. Torku tries to keep his expression neutral, but his tail twitches occasionally.

Torku keeps his arms folded across his chest, but leans against the centaur’s desk and quietly grabs a document with his tail.

”Brought order to the world?” The tiefling looks like he very much would like to spit, but restrains himself. ”How about uncovering a secret buried for centuries because the lie told publicly benefited those in power more than the truth? Not telling lies is a very orderly thing to do, yes?”

Torku's mouth twists as if he were trying not to spit out a particularly sour lemon. "Please," he manages to wring out.

”Exceedingly so,” Torku mutters from the rear.

Torku grudgingly pins his token to the collar of his travel cloak, but doesn't seem inclined to talk - which, given his perpetually-sour expression, might be for the best.

"Convincing those mercs to free Zarta should be an easy challenge."

"Good - then I'm sure you can stop interrupting my reading and go take care of it yourself."

"Captain Valsin gave us these." He shows a token stamped with the insignia of House Thrune. "Supposed to show we have the favour of the crown. Personal tokens, but perhaps they will be useful."

The seated tiefling flips a bookmark over the back of the book, a similarly-stamped token dangling from the red satin ribbon. "Huzzah," he adds with a distinct lack of enthusiasm. "Anything else we should know about these Knights besides the fact they have nails shoved up their a$$!*@+s and apparently possess questionable taste in jewelry?"

I'd forgotten Torku got my GM credit from running that scenario!

”Congratulations, I’ve never heard that one before.” The tiefling idly turns a page, never looking up from his reading. ”Your wit has cut me to the core and left me speechless. Thank goodness you clarified you are no longer fifteen or I would have been confused, given the vastness of your maturity.”

”Or you could just change out of them,” a sour voice adds from behind a large dusty tome. ”So either you can’t because they’re glued to you or some equally ridiculous premise, or you don’t actually want to change and would prefer to pretend you do by complaining loudly and disturbing everyone around you.” A red-skinned face with small horns glares over the edge of the book. ”Either way, shove a cork in it or go somewhere else.”

From what I’ve heard, this scenario isn’t kind to characters playing above their tier. Personally I would prefer to go low - I unfortunately don’t have any characters available in the 8-9 tier.

Special Notes/Abilities: Also an occultist, but perhaps one with more... finesse, per say. than Malaz. Similarly, he’ll want to Bane his weapon before hitting things - but he also aims to make himself a difficult target to hit back. He can also channel the spirits of his blade’s previous wielders, using them as spiritual ally or to bolster his own heroic abilities.

He’s also an incredibly sour puss, so feel free to ignore him or let me know here that he’s being a bit much for you and I’ll tone him down.

Alright, slow start scenario.

I’m assuming folks want to keep using these characters, so that would be a 3-7 scenario. I’ve a healthy number of those I haven’t run, so is anyone looking for something in particular? There’s also #9-09 Beyond the Halflight Path, which is an evergreen.

Currently lvl 4 - some GM credits waiting for him to hit lvl 5 before they can be applied.

Torku will also be level 6 after this (and another table that's on its final encounter). Not sure I can handle another table right away though - I'll be running a table of the PFS special as well and another scenario on the side for GameDay.

If there's nobody else with bandwidth either to run a game, I could start something with the understanding that it would be a very slow table (maybe posting every other day) until Gameday wraps up in November. That being said, I know that a slow pace can mean death for a PbP game as folks lose interest and stop posting. However, our characters know each other better than most now and can play off each other even when the GM isn't pushing things along. Is that a risk we want to take?

Torku just walks up out of the canine’s reach. ”Just leave it. Or maybe Sadaf wants another pet.”

Torku grumbles and taps his blade on the ground. Remember the weight of the centuries you carry, he thinks, and the blade glimmers in response.

Torku steps forward to join the line of Pathfinders. The blade in his hand begins to glow a dull red, as though a light were shining through years of dried blood. The tieflings says nothing, but his tail continues to lash irritably behind him.

5 ft step and use point of focus to activate Legacy Weapon, applying the bane (human) enhancement to his rapier.

Torku taps his arm with his blade and conjures his translucent disk of force once more. He also takes a few steps forward, feet not crunching on the sand as he floats just above the surface of the arena.

Casting shield, activating Sudden Speed as a swift action, and moving.

"Funny how you don't kill someone once and that's all anyone talks about," Torku mutters as he draws his blade.

Torku grabs a scroll for walking on air before the trial, taking deep breaths and putting the payment on the counter rather than throwing it in the shopkeeper's face like he wants to. Idiots - the whole town. And here we are going along with them. Can the venture captain fund these expenses to keep the Society from looking like incompetent fools? No, of course not - "That's what we pay you the big bucks for". Hog shit.

Outside the grand arena, the tiefling pulls out his freshly-procured scroll and reads through it carefully. "Clerics and their need to overcomplicate everything," he mutters under his breath as he holds the scroll in one hand and draws complex sigils in the air with the other.

Purchasing and using a scroll of air walk - at minimum caster level (7), it should be good for 70 minutes (which was why he paid extra rather than just a scroll of fly - well, that and for the shock value to his opponents should he step on a pit trap and the sand beneath him falls away but Torku remains standing firmly on thin air above it (it's the little things, you know?)).

Caster Level vs DC 8: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Torku carefully takes a step up into the air, then back down to the ground. "That ought to do it - and if what the priest said was true, it'll be good for over an hour." He puts a hand on the hilt of his blade and a thin green film covers him momentarily before fading into his skin. "And there's that. No guarantee they'll use acid, but never hurts to be prepared." At least as prepared as one can be with such a lousy situation.

Casting resist energy (acid) (good for 40 minutes) and ready to enter. I'm assuming using something like Legacy Weapon would be treated like activating a magic item, so he won't use that until we're out in the arena.

”Agreed, but then we’ve let her pin us in place,” Torku answers with a nod. ”Of course, we could always attempt to make her believe we’re afraid to move and then give her a nasty surprise - but that’ll be rather unimpressive if someone goes tumbling straight into a pit.” He doesn’t look directly at the dwarf snoring and drooling on the table, but it’s clear who he means.

”Surprise surprise, her favorite arena has hidden pits,” Torku announces sourly over dinner. ”As it’s unlikely they rebuild the arena each time someone wants to use it, she probably knows exactly where each hole is. Home turf advantage.” He starts listing off other ways the deck is stacked against them, counting on his fingers for emphasis. ”Then there’s how she apparently can enlarge herself. Giant size advantage. She won in her early days using large animals such as rhinoceroses, and probably still has a stable full of them. Beast advantage. She’s a favorite of the crowds here and will use that to either bolster her morale or get away with brazen cheating. Home team advantage. And her slayers are well-rehearsed and favor ‘exotic weapons’, which doesn’t mean much when spoken by a drunken minstrel who’s probably never seen the outside of this musclehead village, but does mean we don’t know what kinds of weapons and tactics they favor. Surprise tactics advantage.”

His fingers fully accounted for, he curls them into a fist and slams them down on the table. ”So, how do we counter those? I don’t suppose anyone has mastered flight, but perhaps we have some way to make the traps in the floor visible to everyone? Sadaf, can you conjure elementals of earth as well as wind? I can create an area of darkness to put them at a disadvantage, but who can see through that? Or do we have magic to enhance feeble eyes? I didn’t see any spellcasters in her group, but she wouldn’t have allowed magic without restrictions if she didn’t have some of her own.“ The tiefling scowls at the uneaten food in his bowl, tail thumping the floor next to him.

"Such originality." Torku's face is unimpressed by Helkit's attempt at an insult. "If her sword is as sharp as her wit, it'll be good only for cutting butter." He looks her up and down, then clarifies, "Warm butter."

"Yep. It's infectious." Torku jerks his head at the Venture Captain. "He wants us to challenge one of the most successful gladiators in this city to a duel. That she gets to set the terms for." Turning back to Smine, he scowls. "And I suppose you don't want us to reveal our affiliation with you until after we've won? Just in case this deck is stacked too heavily against us?" He pauses to spit to the side. "If you really wanted to send a message, you'd send a Seeker. Or get in the ring yourself."

Huh. Now I can see them. Weird - maybe something with my phone’s version of the file not updating for some reason.

”Great. One of those musclehead idiots is behind this.” Torku glowers as he looks up from the pirate’s journal. ”Back down the river then?”

GM, it looks like the handouts are missing from Slide 7 - all I can see is a blank slide with just the background image. Could you confirm that they are there?

Torku taps himself with his blackened wand. ”At least you’ll be able to spot him if he shows back up,” he remarks to Melea cooly. ”But is that all? We were tasked with stopping the looting, yes, but we don’t know why they were targeting our ships specifically or how they were identifying them.”

It takes a few tries, but the tiefling is eventually able to draw the magic from his wand and start the process of healing his cuts and bruises.

We could explore the rooms we can see already and then that small room to the south? Save the large room in the northwest corner for last?

Torku steps swiftly into the doorway and jabs at the man blocking his path - hard. ”You were warned,” he spits through gritted teeth. F!*~. Now we’ve lost the priest.

"Aim it behind them!" Torku snaps back, but begrudgingly does so.

Wouldn't want to if he was threatening the caster or archer, but since we've got folks blocking them I don't see a problem. Torku's not making full-attacks at this level anyway. But no fair if a certain dinosaur rushes to fill the gap, mind you! XD
