”Why did you make them green? This is a desert,” Timbur points out.
Should we leave one here to use as an emergency exit?
”Maybe they teleport away your hand?” Timbur suggests from up above. ”Then you’d be empty-wristed.”
Timbur will stay topside in case of attack from above.
Timbur helps Tollo up. ”Sorry. Sometimes I get clumsy.”
Timbur, so intent on looking about, fails to notice Tollo standing in his way, and nearly bowls him over.
Timbur continues to watch their back as the smart people figure out how to push somebody's button.
Timbur draws his sword and moves in, heroically dispatching the unconscious stirges.
Timbur watches as Tollo kicks the sand. ”Tollo, I think you got some slime in your hair,” he says, already heading towards the way back.
”Maybe we shouldn’t stay in here then,” Timbur suggests.
Startled by the sudden laughter, Timbur is slightly hurt. "It's not my fault. I was too big and clumnsy."
"I did that once too, when I was a kid. Actually, it was a lean-to. I didn't mean to wreck it. Old Man Mullins got really mad about that."
”My mother died giving birth to me. The people in my village said I was too big and ripped her apart coming out.” After a few seconds of awkward silence, he adds, ”So I think she would agree that you’re just a little guy.”
Timbur listens as folks translate. ”Oh I don’t think Tollo could do that. He’s just a little guy.”
Timbur looks on, very confused.
Bzztles.
”Oops,” Timbur says. ”We’re sorry.”
Timbur moves around the cage and stabs at the reddish bee.
Timbur steps in front of Tamru, ducking low to allow the pole arm easy access over his shoulder. He slashes with his sword.
If that bee was already down, he attacks a different one, losing 2 from his attack roll for no flank.
Timbur pulls Loges away from the door before it’s opened.
Timbur also nods that he’s ready.
Timbur glares at Loges as they meet up. ”Not smart, Mr. Wizard. If you die because you ran off, I’m not giving you your money back!”
So I’ll guess Horek and Timbur we’re preparing to haul the weasels back, but while Timbur was distracted, Loges decided to sneak off. Looking up, Timbur realizes his employer has disappeared, so he asks after him and follows with sword ready, leaving the halfling to angrily drag around the dead W.O.U.S.s
Tollo lives his best life when angrily dragging weasels anyways. Who doesn’t?
I figure Timbur just didn’t notice Loges take off after the woman, so he doesn’t notice him gone until he returns.
Timbur climbs back down the ladder, looks about, then asks, ”Where is Loges?” Following the others’ gaze towards the stairs, Timbur shakes his head, draws his sword, and heads down the stairs after him.
Timbur picks up the other and carries it back with Horek.
Timbur moves to put himself between Loges and danger, but if they’re retreating, he doesn’t follow.
”Or catch fleas,” Timbur mutters but he has no desire to get close enough to this pitiful wretch to scare her away.
”Wha-?” Timbur starts. He really doesn’t know what to say and simply stares at the woman with a mix of confusion and horror.
With the tracks pointed out to him, Timbur attempts to trace their path.
Timbur eats his food reluctantly. In the end, he can’t decide if his food actually tastes bad, or he just thinks it does because he’s eating lizard and beetle. Either way, his belly is full and hopefully will stay that way for a few hours. His guts do gurgle alarmingly. Timbur is more than ready to return to the pyramid and explore the new options now available.
Timbur never even had a chance to come out of his stunned reverie before the combat was over. He sheepishly moves into the room, helping butcher the bugs, while studiously avoiding the gaze of everybody else.
The light dawns for Timbur. ”Oh he’s offering food. He wasn’t calling Horek a cantaloupe, just offering him some. I don’t see how they could get cantaloupe to grow inside the pyramid, though.”
"He called you a child," Timbur replies. "And he called Horek a cantaloupe goblin. Clearly, these aren't very polite people."
”It’s true. You don’t look like a cantaloupe. You’re more of a cabbage shade, I’d say.”
”But he isn’t a goblin or a cantaloupe. These people must have been in the desert too long. Maybe that’s why you can’t understand them.”
Poor Timbur is confused. ”How did they get in here? Why are they living in a place like this? There’s nothing outside but sand and ruins. The water isn’t even safe.”
Timbur always performs his role of Loges’ bodyguard, which is difficult since Loges keeps wanting to see everything.
Timbur shouts the door as requested, then moves to stand in front of Loges.
Sounds good. Timbur keeps trying to stay between Loges and the insects, but t the wizard’s desire to see everything keeps him moving, much to Timbur’s annoyance. He’s much happier when they start to move out in a regular formation.
Timbur draws his sword and starts clattering the blade against his shield in an effort to scare off the insects.
Timbur straps on his shield then follows Tollo, climbing down the ladder after him one handed and also jumping clear the last five feet.
Timbur takes a rest from wall building as Tollo searches for traps. ”Don’t set the gas off again,” he suggests helpfully and loudly as Tollo gently picks at various mechanisms.
Sniff! Sniff! ”Maybe the gas is gone?”
Since Horek made the climb up, Timbur stays with Loges, just in case.
