Cant remember name of cartoon around late 70's to early 80's?
Again, tail would spark from top to bottom or bottom to top, when when the whole tailed sparked, like that of a wick to dynamite, he would shoot forward at blinding speed. Help?
I've often wondered why we dont use a leveling system here on the Paizo boards that would be based off of participation, etc. We are all gamers, after all, so it would seem that it would be the logical thing to do. These are my ponderings on a brisk Saturday afternoon. My vote: yes! What share the rest of you? Thoth-Amon
A few years back, an individual on this site left a link speaking of an unusual character in american history that lived for centuries, dealing with magick, and all that goodiness. Whether or not this was a factual account or not, it was a very good story. If anyone is aware of the story in which i am speaking of, please list the link. Your efforts are appreciated. Thanks, Thoth-Amon
GM offers his services for SF and fantasy campaigns. Bay Area, CA. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- I recently relocated to Castro Valley, California. I wanted to offer my services as a GM. My wish is to play weekly, preferred, but bi-monthly would be fine too. Here's the skinny:
So there you have it. Please contact me if you are in need of a GM that is all about some serious fun. Please note: all my games are dark and gritty, and not sugar-filled. Addendum #1: Fridays may actually work for me after all. The reason i am hesitant on Saturdays is that i am an assistant coach for my nephews t-ball team
In my games, there are a few constants to be aware of: 1) The world isnt always fair.
I guarantee gaming player enjoyment. Thoth-Amon

This was a great book, btw... Read a Conan book a few years back and i cant remember the book title and author. It was NOT Rober E. Howard. Basically, Conan ends up in a desert, an old forgotten god was involved, and the most memorable part was this necromancer with a necromantic ring that enhanced his powers to awake the dead. This necromancer also(it was strongly implied) preferred the company of dead women. I'll stop there due to the inappropriateness of the theme here. SO... Necromancer with a necromantic ring that enhanced his power over the dead. He also liked the company of dead women, not undead, but seriously folks-dead women. Spoiler:
This necromancer was killed while controlling undead with his necromantic ring, yet because of the power of the ring, it cycled in on itself and he became a lich, of sorts, a fully conscious undead in control-through his ring, of himself. A very cool magic item idea. I believe there was also a monk in the book. Really tough dude, book talked about where he learned his art and even explained a way to extend ones lifespan after a certain level. This monk didnt learn this advanced technique, but was dangerous, just the same. Memory is vague here: I believe a cleric was also involved. He was trying to stop the baddy magician. Memory is vague here, too: The final scenario was with brothers, one a champion figher and the other, a wizard, both Evil. This wizard wanted to re-awaken a long dead god. Took place in a desert. Hope someone can give me the name of title and/or name of the author. Again, great book. Thoth-Amon
I read post apocolyptic book back in the early 1980's (book could be much older) whos title i have forgotten and its been like an itch i cant scratch. The only unique characteristic i remember: An main character is walking through a town/village and the towns elders were chosen by their physical, and possibly, their mental deformities. Seems the rest of the townspeople saw "different" as superior. Sorry, i dont have more, but i do know that if anyone has read it my descrition should scream out to them. Crossing my fingers someone knows the title. Thanks all, Thoth-Amon
UPDATED as of Saturday, June 7th, of 2008. California, Loma Linda <UPDATED on Saturday, 6-7-08>
Loma Linda, CA. 92408 PLAYING EVERY SATURDAY
Please note that we play every Saturday with the 4.0 rules.
If you're rusty with the rules, dont let it stop you from playing. As long as you enjoy the game, we will get you up to speed. We have most every book ever printed so if you need to research something, i am sure that wont be a problem. Adults only, please. If you can play all the campaigns, that would be great. If your schedule doesnt allow this, try out all the campaigns and play the one that interests you most. Play in 1, 2, or 3 campaigns, whichever works best for your schedule. We are looking for gamers looking to have fun and are capable of being consistent. Campaign #1: H1: Keep on the Shadowfell
Campaign #2: Homebrew DnD
Campaign #3: Forgotten Realms Mini Module
Update: I may start either a Gamma World (old rules), or WFRP campaign. Stay tuned. We play at the apartment of one of our DM's(Toby). There are no spouses, kids, or pets to bother us during our gaming adventures. We have a good size table in the center of the living room surrounded on two sides by a comfy couch, chairs around the other two sides. Plenty of room to play. Bring your own snacks, order pizza, or both, that's what we do. Beer is fine in moderation. It's all about the fun. Thoth-Amon(Brent)
Fellow Gamers Me and 3 other players have 3 campaigns ongoing, between us, every Saturday from 2:30pm-9pm. Each campaign meets every 3rd week, which means someones campaign is going on every Saturday. Join 1 or join all 3, whichever your schedule will allow. Currently, they are all 3.5, but one will definitely go 4.0 when released. There are serious talks that the other two will go 3.5E in the next few months or so. I'm the only wildcard DM, i throw in a change once in a while and run a Gamma World 1st edition campaign, as well as a WFRP campaign. We'd love to have a few more fun and consistent players. If you are interested, please contact me at your soonest convenience. I can also be found at www.penandpapergames.com. You'll find me under... thoth-amon. Thoth-Amon
Desert Campaings: I need your help... Starting a desert-themed campaign late next month... I need names of modules and sources of adventures for an upcoming Desert Campaign. Any edition(i can adjust accordingly to 3.5) and any source including Dragon and Dungeon magazines, other companies, both official and unofficial, will do. They just need that desert flavor. Thanks all for your help, Thoth-Amon
I need Druid prestige classes and where they can be found. Please help by listing the class and where it can be found. I am even cool with unofficial sources(even your own designs) as long as they come with a location to where they can be found. Thanks all, your help is greatly appreciated. Thoth-Amon
I've been playing since the mid 70's and have always wanted to play a raced-based campaign. Now here i am 30+ years later and finally got my wish, an all dwarven campaign. I must admit that i am having a blast, as well as are the other players in said campaign. This being said, what raced-based campaigns have you or are you currently playing, and are these 'campaigns' everything that you thought they would be, eg funfactor, etc? I look forward to your responses. Oh, and future race-based campaigns i'd like to play would include gnomes, goblins, and half-orcs. I hear 4.0 wont have the gnomes and half-orcs, but you can bet that they WILL be in my 4.0 adventures. Call it a defect in my imagination but i just find it difficult to imagine DnD without gnomes and half-orcs. But hey-i never claimed to be perfect... but pretty damn near; i am an Illithiad, after all. From Thoths mental musings
Hey all We could still use another 2 players or so. Things to know: 1) Meeting once a month for at least 8 hours, most likely Saturdays. 2) Looking to start the campaign around end of October. 3) Campaign will bring characters from level 1 to epic(low 20's) 4) Pretty much everything published will be allowed as far as race, class, etc., is concerned. We have most of the books, if you dont have a copy, you're welcome to borrow ours on game days to get things started. Of course, please purchase your own in time. We are all Paizo members and encourage Paizo purchases. Our wallets love them. 5) Campaign will include city, wilderness, dungeon crawling, Underdark, water, and possibly a visit to the hells later on. You'll get to experience it all. 6) All alignments are allowed. 7) Be prepared to play upon arrival. Update your characters on your own time. We want to keep things at a good pace. 8) Everyone gets a bonus feat at 1st level. 9) Things probably not worth mentioning(and i say this more for entertainment): You must have good hygene, be dependable, be an adult(no teens), and not have a secret plan to use this game as a platform to push a personal agenda... Eg. your personal take on religion or the advantages of your cult, why drugs should be legalized, why you hate Bush(the president)--or Clinton(prior, or possible future), cops, hippies, etc. No, you cant bring your current mate to watch--players only. You get the point. I've been playing long enough to tell you some really funny stories from past game sessions over the years. Hmmm, perhaps i should start a thread on this? Hmmm, now that i think about it, i think it has already been done. In short, this game is all about the fun! Give me a write if you're interested. Please remember to put "GAMER" under the subject of your email so as i wont mis-identify it as spam. My email is ufoundbrent@yahoo.com Brent(Thoth-Amon)
Update: We dropped the teenager and father and moved the location to Moreno Valley, California. Reason? We just wanted to play with fellow adult gaming enthusiasts. There are 3 of us now and we have 70+ years gaming experience between us. If you enjoy D&D, WFRP, etc, then give me a write. ufoundbrent@yahoo.com Please put 'GAMER' in the subject box. I wouldnt want to confuse your email with spam and delete you. I look forward to hearing from you all. Thoth-Amon
While paging through one of the numerous D&D books at Barnes and Noble over a year ago, i came across one with a class that i can only think would be called an Underdark Scout? Anyone out there know the true name of the class i am speaking of and to which book it can be found? Your help is always appreciated. Thanks again. Thoth-Amon
THE MOST USEFUL:The most useful post ever would be the one on Houserules. I got some really great ideas from that post. Thankyou to whomever started that post. THE MOST FUN: I am biased here but my post on what you would be if thrown into DnD land permanently tells alot about not only oneself but others as well. I look forward to your reponses. Thoth-Amon
Yes; i realize that most of us roleplay our characters but, just how far do you require it to go. For example; If i have an assassin in the party, i do require him to actually assassinate others from time to time or no amount of experience will allow him to level up. Druids and Clerics are required to do their thing with their Gods-or nature spirits, respectively. Thieves are required to actually use the skills that they increase in per level. Never cared for the theif increasing in skills in an area s/he didnt practice. Example: When leveling, if the theif didnt pick one lock or person, then the theif doesnt increase in skills in that area. So basically, one must show attempts and aptitude in order to increase in skills. It just isnt handed to them as a reward for leveling. This really encourages my players to really enjoy the skills they have and to not just take them for granted-makes them better players as well. Anyone else do this? Please share any experiences. Back to assassins as an example: Our assassins are required to either assassinate or attempt to assassinate one being per level. If the assassin doesnt, s/he doesnt level. I actually picked up this idea when playing WFRP years ago. When the DM told me that to take on the pit fighter class, that my character had to actually pit fight and survive, that really set things into perspective. My character also had to slay a troll to become a troll slayer as well. You see my point. You just cant say what you are in my game, you character must be that class in behavior. I rambled enough. I look forward to the responses. Thoth-Amon
Hello all, Ive seen this rpg before, in name only, and only on the paizo site. I have even heard that this rpg is even more popular than D&D in Germany. In fact, i have never heard anything other than praise for said game-the pen&paper version.
I have also heard that it has been printed in english, though i have yet to find a site. Thoth-Amon the Mindflayerian Atlantian
After responding to another thread, i was reminded of a movie from my past. It was made in the 70's...Something about a few scientists? going undersea, getting captured, and meeting Atlanteans. Later in the story, a battle ensues between the Atlaneans and another race or monsters? I think the Atlanteans lost and the scientists? barely escaped. The majority of the movie took place under the sea.
It was not... Journey to the Center of the Earth 70's
...but it was of the same quality. Thanx for your help, Thoth-Amon
I'd love to have a listing of all the threads i either started or responded too-perhaps in drop-down menu form. It would also be wonderful if we could have a drop-down menu listing of all the threads that we are following. This way it would be easily accessed, rather than going through all the sites to find the one i was specifically looking for. It would be a great time saver. Any chance any of my suggestions are in the works? Thoth-Amon
I started playing in the 70's with Grewhawk. I have also played alot of Forgotten Realms and homebrew campaigns. I started a thread yesterday to see just what everyone liked out there and it seems that Dark Sun won out. I'll have to try that next. Apparently, Dark Sun has a gritty brutal unfair feel. Seems, that kind of world also appeals to many of you out there as well. Anyway, i dont feel it fair to vote in this poll for i only have Grewhawk and Forgotten Realms to vote on. So, with that in mind, which campaign world -through personal playing experience-interests you the most, or least, and why? Feel free to ramble and give personal experiences for i love others stories of experience on the subject. Thoth-Amon
We use to play ourselves when we were youger. If i can remember, this is a bit of how we figured our stats: Strength: How much one could lift over their head from the floor. There is a 1st edition chart somewhere for this. Intelligence: IQ tests. 120 equaled 12, etc In the beginning, we used education to figure out Intelligence. Later figured that education wasnt accurate when it came it Intelligence for any average slob could get a degree. We played with GPA for intelligence, but it wasnt accurate either. But it's up to you all how you want to go about it. We found that the IQ test was the best method by far. Anyone can pick up a test book at any bookstore or take a test on the computer. My brother was a genius and he did quite well. The rest of us came in with an intelligence from 11-14. Yes, it was a wake-up call for us. LOL Please note: find a hard IQ test and not an easy one. Yes, i am aware that they exist. Ha! Wisdom: This was never very high considering we were human and our lifespans werent long enough to get a real clue. So we started at a base of 10 and took any hurdles in our lives into account to bump it up or down, but it was never far from 10. Perhaps 9-11. So if one had it easy-Hogans or Ozzy's kids, they would lose 1-2 points making them an 8 or 9 Wisdom. If one had it rough or had a challenging life for any number of reasons(doesnt have to be based on parental income) then one would add 1 or so. You get the idea. Again, avg was a 10. No one ever argued with this stat. The stat was definitely human-specific. Dexterity: Started at a base of 10 and adjusted accordingly. If one was an athlete then it was kicked up. If one wasnt very active, then he or she got a 10-12. If one was a martial artist and or a gymnast, then they gained extra points. If one was a videogamer and never exercised a day in his or her life then an 8 Dexterity would be in order. Constitution: Again, depended on athletic ability, and it had to be a contact sport. So a martial artist gained the most constitution points and football players would have gained some as well. Charisma: Had to do with popularity with the opposite sex as well as the amount in your circle of friends and who was the natural leader of said group. Usually this came down to a group vote and averaged it. We actually had quite a chart back then and i wished i had it now. You all would of loved it. It took us years to perfect. In the end, stat scores were usually around 8-16, overall average of 12. Seems i had around 18:40(something) strength for lifting over 250lbs over my head. Again, 1st edition chart. If memory serves, someone with an 18:00 could lift 650+lbs over there head. Of course, someone with this strength was never human. I believe the record today is around 450 lbs, which would equate around 18:71?). It was fascinating to us that humans couldnt receive a high Wisdom due to our low lifespans. Humans couldnt get better than a low 18 in strength. Also, this influenced my game play quite a bit. In fact, humans were averaging a 10. If a human had all 12's, then he or she was a very capable character. Since we were martial artists, we figured belts corresponded with levels. Here's how we did it-again, i am going off of memory: White Belt: Nothing
As you can see, as one got better, it got harder to increase in levels. We never allowed extra levels for belts in multiple arts. In may case, i had a 3rd in Tae Kwon Do, Black Belt in Hap Ki Do, and a 4th Black in Kung Fu San Soo. So i took the highest belt and made myself a 14th level. Of course, we would run ourselves every year. In the beginning, we were low level and that last time we played(over 12 years of playing since beginning this i was a 14th level.) Keep in mind i trained 6-7 days a week for a minumum of 3 hours a day. Weekends could easily equate to 6-8 hours of training. It took me about 12 years of multiple hour daily training to get there. It was cool for us since we were all martial artists that trained and fought full contact daily-with pads. Pretty wild playing yourself in high level modules and it realy messed with our heads when one of us died or got maimed. It was pretty brutal. Okay, i rambled enough. Anyone else in Paizoland have any stories to share?
There are so many campaign worlds out there, so i would like to know which you prefer and why. It is very important that you give reasons why you love, or hate, or somewhere in between, your feelings concerning the different campaign worlds. I, myself, have only played Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms and homebrew worlds. The reason for this thread is to give me some idea of the other worlds out there so that i may make a better choice when trying out the other worlds. Thanks to all of you for sharing your opinions and experiences. Thoth-Amon
Where would i find complete imformation regarding 'illithid gods' as well as other Gods having to do with psionics. Also, i read that there is a 'dead' human God of psionics 'that only needs worshippers to revive.' (paizo member:Kalin Agrivar). Thanx goes to my brothers and sisters in the paizo community for your quick responses. My we all be sent to our respective favorite worlds as our favorite classes/races. Thoth-Amon
It's no secret that i love Tomb of Horrors. I am also aware of Tomb of Horrors II(Return to the Tomb of Horrors, i believe). I believe there is also a ToH III about to be released or perhaps it has been released. Here are my questions: Where do i find HoRIII and what other modules would you put into the same bag/class/category as ToH? Please, when listing and whenever possible, give me exact names of modules and locations to purchase if other than Paizo. Thanks to you fellow gamers. May we all be transported into our favorite worlds into the bodies of our favorite characters. That's my blessing to you all. Thoth-Amon
I read a module(?) a while back where the players actually play the humanoid races trying to defend their homes (caves?) against the onslaught of humans. I'm not sure if the player characters started that way or if they were racially turned into their enemy. Anyone remember which module i am speaking of? Sorry if i am vague on the details. Thank you for your quick responses. Thoth-Amon the Mindflayerian Atlantian
Caveat: Lolth and her Drow are a wonderful addition if rarely used. They should never become a common occurance. In fact-and this is my opinion, players shouldnt even see Drowsign until at least 6th level. As far as i am concerned, Drow shouldnt even be introduced until 10th level. Drow, to me, are a medium to high level problem and as far as Lolth and her Yoccols go, they shouldnt even be introduced till players reach levels into the medium double digits. I agree they can be overly done-no doubt, but used sparingly, can and are a wonderful feature when adventuring in the underdark. I am Dm'ing an experienced bunch of players(7), and they are all on or about 9th level and have only seen Drowsign. It entertains me that they are nervous about the possibility of meeting a scouting party head on and are taking every precaution for what they feel may be the inevitable. This is how Drow should be encountered in my book. I like to keep them at a mythological level-only rumored in existence. Never should they become commonplace, Never! That being said, even though i loved the D series when i was a kid, a series like that should never be made again. I dont agree with any series that feature too much Drow for they must be an extremely rare encounter and ONLY for high level characters. Lets keep the mystique. Lets never make them common. Just my opinion. Thoth-Amon
Personally, I love weak characters, for when they survive and advance, and become a force to be reckoned with, I know I have played him well. Nothing is more fulfilling than making a runt (mentally and/or physically, in appearance or disability, intelligence, race, etc) that becomes powerful, for in the end, success is your best revenge.
Thoth-Amon
I have always wanted to play the Ravenloft series, and i will settle on DM'ing it if necessary, so here is my question: Can anyone please give me the complete series of modules for said campaign, including any supplements. I know it is a big request, be assured, your efforts would be greatly appreciated. Also, any and all paizo subscribers, please feel free to chime in with your opinions and suggestions (on playing said game)for i would love to hear it straight from the gamers mouth. Thanks again all. Thoth-Amon the Atlantian Mindflayerian
I have read every 'Drizzt' collectors books put out. Here is my question...When does the next 'collectors edition' being released re: Drizzt and his friends. I believe it's the 1000 orcs trilogy, but i am not sure. Any Drizzt experts have any information for me. It would be greatly appreciated.
