I once heard a joke that living in Canada is like having a roomy loft apartment over a really awesome house party.

Thod quickly calms down, taking a swig from a flask to celebrate his recent victory. He finally gets a good look at the new arrivals. He looks more confused than anything, looking back and fourth at the multiple conversations, and otherwise keeping silent.

Thod stands a bit over 4', and almost as wide, being muscular even for a dwarf. He wears a breastplate and wields a halberd. His beard is large, as expected, and unadorned, though his moustache is long and braided. One aspect that stands out is the wide variety of various flasks and canteens he has strapped to him.

Though his halberd is ineffective in a grapple, Thod is able to quickly draw his backup dagger and resume hacking at the beast.

Quick Draw my dagger, and instead of winning a grapple check, I'll just keep stabbing and slicing at the tentacle.

It seems Thod overestimated attacking with a dagger while being wrapped and whipped around by a giant tentacle.

Thod hustles around the edge of the pit to get closer to the other tentacle. He stops partway around the pit, banging the shaft of his halberd on the ground, and making a ruckus, goading the tentacle to attack him.

Preparing for a double attack.

FIRST: I have Unexpected Strike as a rage ability. This grants me an Attack of Opportunity against any target that enters a threatened square, not just leaves it. So I'll get one attack if the tentacle approaches.

SECOND: I will also Ready an attack against the tentacle if it enters my threatened area. So if it approaches, that's an AOO, and a Readied attack. 1d20+14 on Attack, 1d10+16 on Damage.

Don't worry, you don't need to. The idea is only one person needs to hit them with Nonlethal. And then, they'll drop unconscious, but not dying, when the lethal damage catches up to the nonlethal total.

"THE SAME IDIOTS WE'VE BEEN FIGHTING? YOU'D THINK THEY'D LEARN THEIR LESSON THE FIRST TIME!"

A bit of inspiration strikes Thod. Killing these guys doesn't seem to do much. So what if he doesn't kill them? Thod decides to test this theory. He spins his halberd in its hands, and swings wide, looking to smack the Mantis assassin on the side of the head with the flat of the halberd blade.

For my first attack, I'm turning Power Attack off and instead doing Nonlethal Damage with a -4 to my attack. If Yellow is still standing, it'll strike him. If not, I'll switch to Black.

Attack 1: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26 Nonlethal Damage: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

My last attack will be as normal. Power attack is turned off for this round. Same as above, Yellow if he's standing, Black if Yellow isn't.

Rule Cheese Notes: Attacking once for non-lethal is a useful strategy. Since they'll get knocked out when their nonlethal damage is greater than their current HP, you just have to smack them nonlethally a few times, and then you can carve them up as normal. They'll still be knocked out instead of killed unless you score a LOT of damage on them at once.

And a healing-focused Witch? Solid character choice. Good to have some variety and break out of the "Must have a cleric" mentality. Wouldn't recommend White Raven as a name, though. We already got one Raven in the group.

I admit a bit of hesitation on inviting two people, with the idea that Sevenspawn can come back at any time, jumping the group from the cozy four to a rather crammed six. Not going to veto it, just a bit worried how it'll affect interactions.

Spiderbeard, just a reminder that Thod has Uncanny Dodge and the improved version, and so cannot get sneak attacked. Reading your rolls, I take it that Thod would only take 14 damage? Minus damage reduction, for 12 damage.

I described that Thod was holding a dagger while trying to get swallowed. Now that he is, he will attempt to cut his way out. Being a light weapon, I don't need grapple checks to use it.

While I'll roll for every attack, Thod will only attack for as long as it takes to cut a hole. Don't want to cause undue damage to ol' Cindermaw.

Feeling the beast tense up and beginning to close its mouth, Thod, instead of fighting its way inside, grabs a vial and opens it, pouring it into the beast's mouth.

To be clear, Thod will willingly fail any grapple check to be swallowed whole. Next, Thod pulls out a vial of Cure Serious Wounds, but instead of drinking it, he feeds it to Cindermaw, sprinkling it down its throat.

Thod drunkenly yells dwarven invective at the beast while he runs at it. However, he does keep his eyes on the beast.

So, plan. Run towards and/or around it. I presume it has reach, and so I'll provoke an AOO on it when it snaps at me. Assumption is that his only attack is snapping with his mouth. At that point, Thod will attempt to literally jump in. Not sure how you want to rule that, but I will assume a grapple check is the closest. Literally trying to grapple my way into its mouth.
