I blanch for a moment, Aerrodin seems quite stern, before a bubble of outrage wells up in me. I scowl at his back as he goes down the hall. "Yeah. In case you were confused, I was trying to make a joke." I tell Kvina. "A sense of humor keeps me from babbling in the corner like a baby." I look at the fire that Elijah brings in and I try to keep my features composed. Of course we'd bring a fire in with us. I take up a position leaning against the doorframe, my hand on the hilt of my axe. "Once everyone's finished their business we'll close the door and I'll stand watch. Elijah, please make sure the fire in the hall goes out. Kvina, if you don't have a bedroll you can use mine while I'm on watch."

I finish my business and head back to the others. I catch the tail end of Elijah's words. "I think I should've never left Daggermark. I never thought I'd miss sleeping outside in the open, but I'd take being out in a blizzard over this place." I turn and salute Kvina "Welcome to our haunted house. It sucks. Feel free to do the 'Paladin riding in to save the day' act."

I slam into the front door, trying to open it with all might. When I hear the "click" of the latch I growl at the door. "Blasted door, I'm putting my axe through you in the morning!" I hit the door with my fist. I step back and take a few deep breaths. I can't let this get to me. Once I've calmed down I turn and talk to the group. "I'll take first watch. I'm wide awake anyways. Damned wolf!" I look Kvina up and down, consider her for a moment, then I sigh. "Well, I am glad you showed up. I can't believe we left the damned fire going. We'd have burned the house down around us. Not that I'd cry over it being destroyed, just not while I'm in it." I take a moment to look at each person individually. Putting on a stern expression I say "I'm gonna go use that 'bathroom corner' we have. I don't want to see anyone peaking!" Spoiler: Intimidate because reasons 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

"Fire?" The thought of flames distracts me. "Is there, wait, there isn't a fire still going out there, is there? How big is it...HANG ON" I roar as something important pops into my mind. "How did you get in? Is that front door open?!? Let me see!" I push out the door and into the hallway at top speed. If that damn door's open I'm out of here, storm or no storm!

I move up next to Vinnick, ready to pounce if I need to. This girl doesn't look like the kind of person who owns a haunted mansion, but after tonight's events I'm not in a trusting mood. "He's a powerful wizard, you better answer him! Who are you?"

"Don't worry Lord Fancypants." I start helping Aerrodin put on his armor. "Sleeping Beauty and the Maestro both owe you their lives. So don't go beating yourself up." "Now, I vote we go through the east door there. We opened it and nothing came out to eat our faces off. That's a good start."

"It's sweet how you worry about me" I say with a tinge of sarcasm. I busy myself packing my belongings "It was worth the risk to bury my axe in its spine. Likely we'll see it again once it's been healed. With our luck it'll bring friends. This house is strange and I make no assumptions about it."

I head back to the light, a scowl on my face. "I was trying to kill it before it went back to whatever master it has. It didn't dress itself in armor. Now somebody, ah, something knows we're here." I walk over to Orpheus. "Are you ok? You took a hell of a hit"

Will 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12 The beast's howl sends chills down my spine. I try to sqaush the fear by turning to anger. "It's not going anywhere" I snarl. I charge after the beast; I manage to catch up but my swing goes wide. Spoiler: Charge! 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

"Third watch" I calls while wrapping herself in my blanket. I set my bedroll down as far away from the fire as I can. I eat part of a trail bar before trying to sleep before my watch comes. I leave Betsy on the floor next to me where I can pick her up right away.

Elijah Moore wrote: I extend a hand to each man, one at a time. Thia is a lady ;) I look up at Elijah from where I sit on the floor, close to Vinnick."Aye, I don't believe he meant to shoot the wizard. I have no quarrel with Orpheus, and I will defend him against whatever ...things...live in this house. I agree we should work as a team, that we need to stick together, that we should wait for Vinnick to heal before exploring. All good points." Here I hold a hand up. "But. I am a realist. And I know that I don't really know any of you; well Aerrodin some but not much. There is the small chance that I am wrong, that Orpheus meant to take that shot, and I cannot ignore that chance just because I wish to see the best in people. I will not apologize for saying that I won't stand by if someone is continuously hurting other members of this group. How many times would you let him shoot the wizard before you stepped in?" I turn my attention to Orpheus. Why did he have to start a fire? I can feel the burns on my back ache. "As I said, I have no quarrel with you sir. I will gladly throw myself between you and whatever beasts live here. Just be careful where you aim"

At Aerrodin's request I move to the injured man and help hold him still. My lips twist into a smile when the wizard calls Aerrodin 'pretty'. I try very hard to ignore Orpheus and his fire making. I think my hands shake a bit; I hope nobody notices.

I nod at the man with the handaxe. "Thanks. That thing was pissing me off." I heft my axe up and walk over to Orpheus. Examining the man I find it hard to believe he's in the murdering business. I respond to Vinnick's cries of outrage. "I agree, I don't think he meant to hit you wizard." I keep my eyes on Orepheus as I speak. "There was a giant insect right next to you. I think our new friend is a lousy shot, not a murderer. IF he really wanted you dead he'd have shot you again. I think the answer is that you-" I point at Orpheus "-stop shooting at things next to people. All of us need to be more careful. There's a lesson here about what happens when you open doors without knowing what's behind them." I pause, crack my neck, then give Orepheus my 'angry guard' look. "That being said, if you shoot somebody else you will not like the consequences" Spoiler: Intimidate 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

I drop the handle. "Ugh. I don't think we're getting out that way." I could chop it down if I had a few hours...maybe days, this door is freaking huge I think to myself. I'm distracted from further thoughts by Elijah's question. I move over to him and try to listen for the same sound. Perception 1d20 ⇒ 16

I quirk an eyebrow as Aerrodin strides right in the door. Lucky for him these people seem friendly, if a bit odd. I try to wring the water out of my cloak before walking inside. "We didn't know it was haunted" I respond before Aerrodin can. "We were just caught out in that damn storm and this place offered shelter" In my head I add 'Who comes to a haunted house on purpose?' I study this opera wizard guy. He doesn't look like much of a fighter. If he's going to go tramping through an abandoned house he'll need someone to keep him safe. I sigh. It feels like my old job's catching up with me. Getting in the middle of fights and keeping people safe already. Feels like home. "If you're going to go explore the house I suppose I'll come along. Safety in numbers and all that."

This is the worst storm I've ever seen I think to myself as I trudge down the path. A shiver goes down my spine as water leaks through my cloak and rolls under my armor. Being out here is miserable. I'm not paying attention to anything but putting one foot in front of the other when I hear Aerrodin speak. Looking up I see what he's focused on; there are other people out here. Behind them is either an inn or a house; who cares, it's shelter! "Suspicious or not they've got shelter over there. I'll take the risk to get out of this blasted storm." I don't wait for Aerrodin before I stride off to the house. He can do what he wants but I'm sick of being in the rain. If these guys are friendly then great, if not I've got my great axe Betsy. I stride up the steps and knock on the opened door. "Hello? Are you guys taking in travelers?" I call out. I have one hand resting on Betsy's hilt, just in case. |
