I am missing subtexts...but what else can I do?

"A good night, Madame. May fortune smile on you!", he says, and he is only fairly certain that he means it truly, being somewhat confused.

After being ushered outside, Theshen whispers:

"My friends, I think we are fortunate indeed to see the moon once again. Let us go and sleep away from the graces of the Madame."

No worries, I've had a distracting and tiring few days myself.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (6) + 0 = 6

"I shall take that as a compliment, Madame. And I could not in good faith rule out that motive, but that is speculation in my part. I trust that the rustling of sand we heard in the room had to do with your servants?"

And Theshen might gain a few knowledges. :)

Theshen intervenes swiftly, with as much calm in his voice as he can manage.

"There is no need for delays, or unpleasantness, Madame.", he says with a smile, "We seek information from the man known as 'the Torch'."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

I will wait and see if this works!

Perhaps I can get us out of this yet!

Theshen smiles, as warmly as he is able to in the circumstances.

"That we certainly might, Madame. We seek the trail of lost elements of Ancient Osiriani. Perhaps they might be found again. But we have to offer something significant in return for even a clue..."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Even posts with reactions to the situation would be good. Those both add flavour, and show the character's personality more.

Theshen picks over his words, but not for too long.

"It would impress people of stature if we knew how you know such secrets. And that unlocks further secrets."

Perhaps bait?

A few words.

It's been over a fortnight since anyone but myself and Omelas have posted in the gameplay thread. I get that people can be busy, or distracted, or sick. But no one else posting in two weeks is getting frustrating. If I wanted a solo game, I'd look for one.

I'm going to leave it there until or unless someone else posts in gameplay.

"You are famous, my good lady.", Theshen replies, as if it is the obvious thing in the world.

"Many wonder just how you manage it. Magic? Invisible wardens? Spirits? Curiosity is a powerful thing."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

With no others speaking, Theshen continues.

Think about your wording!

"We had word that you know many secrets, but debated between ourselves how such a thing could be. So the only way to know we thought was to show up here ourselves. I sincerely hope that our wonderings have not greatly offended your worthy self."

Bluff: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

I was hoping that someone with more savvy than Theshen would have chimed in. I'll post.

Theshen is roused from his trance.

"A potent enchantment indeed! I trust we have the pleasure of meeting Madame Zelekhati?", he asks with a short bow.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

Theshen thinks to himself...

I really must ask Sorkesh about this Uðon - when we are not in a place which may have ears everywhere. But he may end up blabbing anyway.

Theshen is pleasantly surprised to find that the 'entertainers' are not in fact assassins. An upbringing in noble houses can have that effect.

"But of course, effendi. Please, lead the way."

"Only the Gods know.", replies Theshen.

"Let us wait here for a spell, and see if he truly meant 'entertainers'."

"Certainly. Those would be appreciated."

Now what?

Theshen quickly stows the parchment into his robes.

"Certainly. What is the matter?"

More scribbling as Theshen says:

"These pastries are quite good are they not?"

Perhaps. But we need to confirm that.

Theshen replies:

Perhaps. We need a plan.

"Indeed. Your duties compel you elsewhere."

Once the man has left, Theshen writes a few words on parchment and shows them to Shu-Kri and Sorkesh.

The sands shifted beneath us. I suspect we are being listened to. Madame Zelekhati's work?

"A stirring tale, with not a doubt.", says Theshen, "Are there any house rules that my companions should be aware of?"

"If only to reduce questions directed at myself later, could you better inform my companion here?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8

"That would be appreciated, effendi."

Let us hope that he leaves swiftly!

Theshen winces, but realises that Sorkesh's tactless question might just garner them useful information.

It's sensible for a GM to look for posts that move the story on. I'll try to keep it in mind more regularly.

Theshen nods amiably to the servants then partakes of a pastry. He is clearly no stranger to this sort of environment.

He awaits a response to his last statement from his companions, seeking their expertise in the matter at hand.

Theshen looks about the quarters.

"Certainly. We would appreciate a sample of your offerings."

Once the servant boys and so-called Master of the House are gone, Theshen turns to his companions.

"Friends, if we are to do this, I imagine we should do it quietly. I have gotten us inside, but I believe it is up to you to convey the item."

I apologise for delay on my part. It's been a busy week.

I would like to continue but I would understand if that is not tenable. My own availability is not what it was with my new job.

"Ahmose then. I would rest before any other arrangements. A private room would be most welcome for now."

Likewise!

Theshen bows slightly to the man.

"Greetings, effendi. I am known as Theshen, and these are my associates. I hope this day find you well, and your activities blessed. I would ascertain whom I am speaking with."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 3 + 1 = 24

Theshen whispers to his companions, his mouth temporarily covered as if to cough.

"My friends, listen and take heed as this is a world I know well. Do not ask anything directly, especially if it would be well-known in these circles. The roundabout path is the surer one with these personages."

Theshen thinks about how best the group might approach such a place without drawing hostile attention.

Quietly, Theshen says:

"There is slipping an item into the effects of an academic, and finding the well of secrets which a half-elf madam draws from."

"Let us be quickly rid of these items, my friends."

"Agreed. Let us be as shadows."

Theshen looks a little uncomfortable at Sorkesh's question.

Theshen is confused and concerned.

By the Holy Mother, something is not right here! But...I do not know for certain.

"Goodbye then, and may the light of the Gods shine on you."

He makes after Sorkesh.
