Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

"Thank you for your assistance. If it does not offend you, may I ask what you are and how you came to be here? I don't believe I've met or read about anyone quite like you. Were you created by the dwarves?"

Good to go, but a little background for the road is always nice. Thanks!

Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

Indeed, though it will be my last significant magic of the day.

He curses the leader with bad luck one last time Ill Omen, before drawing his
gladius. The cold iron blade tarnishes and rusts as his hand grasps the hilt, leaving a less than impressive sight as he steps forward to threaten the leader.

Ganzi Oracle 1

Thermidor moves into the open space, turning towards the surviving brigand. He barks in an authoritative voice.

"Drop the sword. Now!"

Command DC 15.

Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

thermidor will try to magically disrupt the new arrival.

Cast I'll omen on pink.

Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

Will use the slot for Ill Omen on Red instead. Roll twice take worst on his next d20.

Thermidor moves down the stairs, manipulating space and time to help sabotage the closer Aspis agent.

Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

Thermidor tries again to cast his spell, succeeding this time. His hand crackles with dark energy as it swings out to touch the attacker.

Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

Thermidor puts his full range of Jistkan profanities to use as he repeatedly fails to cast a spell. He will step to the side, retrieving his battered and rusty gladius, to provide assistance to Dunia. Trying to provide flank

Concentration DC 17: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Misfortune: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Was attempting to cast Inflict Light Wounds defensively. Can't give anyone else a reroll this round

Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

Thermidor rushes forward to get a better look, swearing under his breath in multiple dead languages as the enemies turn out to be Aspis.

Double Move, getting into better range for later effects.

Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

Thermidor begins pondering the strands of fate, preparing to adjust them in favor of the defenders.

Ill Omen on first enemy in range to attack (us, kobolds, or golden guardian). My reroll ability is still available to everyone. I'll use it when enemies if they roll 18 or higher on attack rolls or saving throws. Kobolds, the Guardian, and any other allies can use it on an attack roll or saving throw of 10 or less, assuming it hasn't been used by a party member or on an enemy.

Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

After conferring with the others about what they know, Thermidor will take the lead, making a few educated guesses to fill in blanks.

"After coming to the surface during the Quest for Sky, the dwarves of Jormudun came to Numeria, and found the artifact we know as the Sky Key during the Reign of Stars. A conflict with the duergar led them to come here, founding Ashkurhall. A disease ravaged the community. They left some of their artifacts with the Grippli, whom my comrades assisted. The descendants of Ashkurhall now live on as the Taralu of Kibwe. Is it them we should speak with?"

Bluff: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
Before assists from Farith and anyone else.

Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

I don't have any of the above. Everyone still has rerolls available from me. This might be a good time to use them.

Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

You're right. I guess was thinking of witch Misfortune

Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

Thermidor will ready to cast ill-omen on the first kobold to do something hostile. DC 16 Will or will have to roll its next d20 twice and take worst

Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

"We mean you no harm. We came seeking the heirs of Jormudun. We bear a talisman of the dwarves of Ashkurhall."

He walks forward slowly, approaching the stairs but remaining in sight, unarmed hands in plain view.

Who has the talisman? This might be a good time to use it.

Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

Though some distance away, Thermidor will try to analyze the significance of the statue and murals, hoping for information which will help them communicate peacefully with the kobolds. He begins slowly entering the room for a better look.

Sorry, had less internet access over the holiday weekend than expected. Should be back to normal now.

Thermidor darts after the others, doing his best to ignore the creature.

Ganzi Oracle 1

Perception: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 3
Linguistics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

Thermidor is not fluent in Dwarven, or particularly cautious, but extensively studies dead and archaic languages, so he approaches the statue, attempting to read the book.

"This inscription seems to imply the original settlers were indeed descendants of the Jormudun exodus. It says 'Home is far behind, our kin scattered to the four winds, but we endure.'"

Baffled by the developments, Thermidor quietly comments, "There is a nearby door that seems ajar. Perhaps we can seal ourselves in there before the 'pet' arrives. We should not linger in these halls."

Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

Spellcraft Wand: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

"Ajaline, would it be possible for you to open the door from a distance? That way we can enter safely after any collapse. We might be able to use that on the other door as well to let the 'pet' come to us"

Looks like you have open/close.

Thermidor will start to inspect the two doors along the hallway as well, while asking for someone with extra training to give a second opinion.

"Would either of these doors be safer, or is there the same risk of collapse?'

Seeing the kobold's reluctance to surrender, and being unable to communicate, Thermidor bellows as he approaches, doing his best to make the kobold feel vulnerable.

Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

The Ganzi rushes in after Dunia to see what's going on, caught off guard by the development.

Thermidor can never act in a surprise round, and is always staggered on the first round of combat, so just a move action. On the bright side, I get uncanny dodge.

Ganzi Oracle 1

History Site: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

"Built in a hurry, as far as I can tell based on the workmanship...but for what purpose? Defense? Burial?"

He will also begin inspecting the statues, looking for magical auras as well as trying to identify their significance.

I have played it with another character, though it's been so long I've likely forgotten anything relevant. I'll get my gear up tonight, but it's all preexisting. I should be ready to go.

While waiting to meet up with his new team, Thermidor socializes in Fort Bandu, picking up disturbing rumors about Aspis mercenaries arriving in the region from Bloodcove.

Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

Ok. I'l go ahead with Thermidor then, and get working on the digital sheet.

I can only give out one reroll per round, and once per creature per day.*

*Though I do have a similar racial ability, Quibble, which means one PC can get two rerolls per day.

For fluff purposes, I tend to describe the ability as fiddling with the space-time continuum (speeding up an arrow mid-flight, slowing down the attempt to dodge a spell, etc.).

My thought on general reroll policies:

Using for Enemies If none of the PCs have already requested use of a reroll, I'll trigger the ability on the first eligible critical threat (i.e 18 on a Scimitar, 20 on a battleaxe, etc.)

Using for Allies It's probably easiest to go first come, first serve on this, if there's an attack, skill, or saving roll you'd like to try again. If you'd like an enemy to reroll a save vs your spell/ability, feel free to trigger it on my behalf.

Does that make sense?

Scarab Sages

Ganzi Oracle 1

Hi everyone, I'm the previously mentioned newcomer. I've played and run parts 1 and 2, but part 3 is brand new to me.

I expect I'll play Thermidor, my dual-cursed Ganzi Time oracle (level 2). This character is probably my weirdest mechanically and thematically, so I don't expect to get an up to date sheet posted until tomorrow. A couple caveats:

  • NOT a healer. Thermidor learns Inflict spells, and any wand he uses counts as broken, so it takes two charges per use.
  • His primary shtick at this level is handing out rerolls like candy. While I have a high level Witch who really enjoyed the Misfortune hex, the identically named Oracle revelation works in a very different way. It's an immediate action, and because it's roll twice take the second (rather than take the worst), it can be used to help allies fix bad attack rolls or saves.

Immediate actions can be a bit clunky in PBP, but I have a few ideas I'll share in a follow up post on how that might work.

If this sounds like too much of a hassle to deal with in this format, I can hatch one of my credit babies, which might also take a little time to get together.
