Theo is slightly alarmed at seeing the burly lumberjack coming right at him.

"Oh my!! Perhaps you should take a nap!" he says as his hands make mystical gestures and fine sand is thrown into the brute's face.

Description
Each creature in the area becomes drowsy and might fall asleep. A creature that falls unconscious from this spell doesn’t fall prone or release what it’s holding. This spell doesn’t prevent creatures from waking up due to a successful Perception check, limiting its utility in combat.

Heightened (4th) The creatures fall unconscious for 1 round on a failure or 1 minute on a critical failure. They fall prone and release what they’re holding, and they can’t attempt Perception checks to wake up. When the duration ends, the creature is sleeping normally instead of automatically waking up.

Critical Success The creature is unaffected.
Success The creature takes a –1 status penalty to Perception checks for 1 round.
Failure The creature falls unconscious. If it’s still unconscious after 1 minute, it wakes up automatically.
Critical Failure The creature falls unconscious. If it’s still unconscious after 1 hour, it wakes up automatically.

Climbing up a slight rise, Theo looks over to the leader of the foresters and while making the proper gestures and muttering the magical phrase, 3 bright red darts spring from the wizard's hand.

"Looks like Kezillyr was right about these people!" he mutters

"Now listen here my kind sir...I did not get bit by wolves and fight dark squid-like beasts and bargain with a tatzelwyrm just to have the likes of you take our hard won prize...not to mention the impact it will have on the sick back in town! Now be off before I truly lose my temper!"

The young man stands just behind Grattfaulk as he delivers this 'blistering' speach.

Looking a little crest-fallen, Theo turns from the creature with a sigh.

"I suppose I understand...I was just hoping....well never mind. Thank you for keeping your word and best of luck with the lumberjacks!"

Theo rejoins the group as they head out of the grove and back to the town.

Theo steps forward and opens the jar holding the fingers.

"Here you are. Now can we collect the moss?"

As they collect the moss, Theo continues to talk to the tatzelwurm.

"What is your name? I am Theodorus Merula. Perhaps once we are done here, I could return and talk to you?"

Theo examines his newly found prize with a look of disgust and fascination.

"I wonder what it does?", he thinks out loud.

Shrugging his shoulders, and not wanting to be left in the creepy hut alone, he hurries out to catch up with the others...stuffing the head in a pouch on his belt.

"Ok, back to the wyrm and then gather our moss! See, it all worked out for the best!"

Standing up fully once again, after crouching and covering his ears after Grattfaulk smashed the cauldron.

"IS IT OVER? IS EVERYONE...sorry, is everyone ok?" he yells at first, then lowering his voice to a more manageable level.

A look of cocern passes the wizard's features as he overhears Bac and Grattfaulk talking.

In a nervous whisper he confronts the orc warrior.

"Ummm...lets hope that it does not come to that...I do not think I would make a better weapon that those you carry!"

He still takes a step away from the fighter, but keeps his eyes on the strange figure in the chair.

Theo hesitantly follows the old man up to the witch's door. He nervously keeps his eyes on the many strange fetishes propped up in the yard and hanging from the building itself.

Theodorus looks at the decrepit hut and shudders.

"Ummm...well here we are. Should we call out to the witch, or knock or something?"

Theo looks at his companions then back to the tatzlwrym and finally speaks.

"<Where is this witch located?>"

He looks to the group apologetically.

"Sorry, but I just cannot kill such a creature when there are alternatives."

Theo looks at the group and then back to the worm, then to the group again.

"Normally I would agree with you warrior Grattfaulk, but this is not some stupid beast, but rather an intelligent being. Unlike the warg we encountered, I sense that this beast is more just a creature of nature rather than an evil entity. Let us see if there is another route to take, or at least discover more about this witch...I mean, who keeps fingers in a jar?"

Shaking his head with a wry smile, Theo answers the beast.

<"And here I thought you above such human fallacies...like greed! Well then, what is it that you think your moss is worth? I am sure the pitiful trinkets we carry would be of much worth to you. We do have a small amount of food with us if that would help?">

Theo smiles and continues to speak to the tatzlwyrm.

"I do not wish to have you 'burn' us, but we need the moss for an ingredient in making medicine. If you do not trust us, maybe you can go and get the moss for us. We will wait here until you return...or just one of us could move forward to collect it under your supervision."

This, of course, would be spoken in Draconic, but to be easier, I just show the translation. Hope that is ok!

Theo steps forward, and before speaking deciphers what the creature had said.

"Grattfaulk avert your eyes from the beast...it makes the creature uncomfortable."

"Mahaan jaanavar se hamaara taatpary ghusapaith se nahin hai, balki hamaaree jarooraten mahaan hain. hamen keval andhere ped se kaee ka ek hissa lene kee jaroorat hai aur phir ham aapako shaanti se chhod denge."

Great beast we do not mean to intrude, but our needs are great. We only need to take a portion of moss from the dark tree and then we will leave you in peace.

Theo watches the wyvern in rapt awe.

"Such a beautiful and deadly creature. I wonder if this is what a true dragon is like!"

He finally brings himself out of his daydreaming to follow the others to the lone Darkwood tree...and hopefully the moss they are looking for.

Staring at the giant arachnid, Theo muses to himself.

"I wonder if a reduction spell would bring it back to its rightful size? Or if a growth spell might make it even bigger!"

He starts to dig out his spellbook but notices the others leaving, so with a shrug of his shoulders he skips along to catch up.

"Wait for me!"

I think Theo still has the hammer...more as a curiosity than a weapon!

"Look at the size of that spider! I wonder what external forces were exerted to create such a specimen?"

Theo wander over and looks at the silver hammer the lead skeleton had used.

Detect Magic

He then will move on to look at the mushrooms that they have been hunting for.

"I wonder how many they will need? I would hate to take them all and leave none to regrow for a future need!"

Seeing the deadly skill of the dwarf skeleton with the silver hammer, Theo holds out his hand and fires 3 magical darts at the undead foe, each striking the creature unerringly.

Moving forward to look into the room, Theo is decidedly disappointed at what he sees.

"Awww...they are only animated skeletons. I was hoping for something more...exotic! Oh well, I guess we will need to deal with them regardless to get those mushrooms."

Making a complex gesture with his hands and speaking some arcane words, a bolt of bright blue lightning streaks from his hand to strike the skeleton with the hammer. Once it had struck, the lightning arced and struck one of the other undead monsters.

Theo crowds behind Kane trying to look past Bac and the kobold to see what is in the room.

"What do you see? Are there actually crumbly dwarves in there? Do you need more light?"

With this last question, he mutters a few short syllables and taps a small stone he had picked up. A dright glow shines from the rock and throws the group into a sharp silhouette against the opening.

"Hmmmm....crumbling Dwarves...that sounds interesting. Let's go and check them out!"

Theodorus has been picking at the remains of the dead creatures.

"Fascinating! They seem to move like a squid in water, and the darkness is like an octopuses ink defence."

He comes out of his reverie when the subject of dwarves is brought up.

"Dwarves...still here? I would be very surprised to see any such people still living in this ruin. But perhaps Ascian is right and they are some sort of undead...now wouldn't that be interesting..."

Theo's eyes widen as Bac pretends to bite into the kobold.

"Ewwww...Bac! I would not put that anywhere near your mouth...you have no idea where it has been!!"

Peaking in through the door, Theo looks around the room.

"Is it safe to come in now?"

Watching the others run into the unnaturally dark room, Theo shakes his head.

"What are they doing? Get out of there! Have you all gone crazy!!"

His calling out to the others seems to do no good as they all seem determined to fight in the darkness.

"Welll...balls! I can not just let you all die in there now can I!"

The young wizard takes a step forward and attempts to counteract the effects of the darkness.

Theo moves up to the doorway and tries to look in. All he can see is the darkness.

"So...there is something in there? Maybe we should just leave it alone and look elsewhere for the mushrooms!"

Hearing Ascian remark about something being a burden and hearing her incantations, Theo walks over to her and looks into the dark interior of the building.

"Hmmm..what is going on in there?", he asks

Theo gives a great sigh of relief as the deep punctures from the wolf's bites slowly fade, leaving only a slightly pink scar. Along with those from their last encounter, the scholar has acquired a fair collection of mementos to remind him of this adventure.

"Well, now that has been dealt with, let's go and find these mushrooms before that Warg and his friend decide to come back!"

The young mage grits this out between his teeth...trying to not cry out in pain.

Theodorus stands and moves a little forward to see if he can target either of the wolves before they escape. Seeing the Warg, he fires another chunk of rubble at the creature using his magic.

Dazed, Theo looks up at the wolf that knocked him to the ground and his eyes grow huge with fear.

Remembering his training, the young wizard throws his arm out and speaks the words to create 3 glowing darts that streak towards the wolf.

As the creatures move to attack, Theo also moves to keep the warg insight.

Once he can see the beast again, he calls up his arcane powers and hurtles a chunk of the ruined wall at the beast.

"I think, overall, that went pretty well. Now let's get these beasts their oxen so we can continue on our way!"

He looks at the others, waiting to hear their acclaim for his brilliant play.

He is actually offering to bring 2 oxen back for the warg...Theo is pretty straight forward in his thinking..lol

"We can promise 2 oxen to be delivered here once we retrieve the mushrooms and return to town. Would that be sufficient?

The wizard looks up from his notes and looks the warg right in the eyes.

Theodorus seems to be furiously writing things down on his wax tablet.

"An actual warg...and they DO speak! How amazing!"

He keeps his distance but tries to get a better view of the talking wolf.

Theo keeps close to the others while trying to look in all directions at once.

"Let's get in and out as quickly as possible. It would seem that this might be the lair of the Warg, and other nasty beasties!"

Looking up from the dead wolf, Theo notices motion in the undergrowth. He looks over to Ascian and points.

"Did...did you see THAT! I think it was a Warg! It must have commanded those other wolves to attack us."

While speaking he moves in closer to Ascian..whether to protect her or seeking her protection you cannot tell.
