About The Mechanist
The origins of The Mechanist are a bit of an ongoing mystery. Her true name and history are unknown, though it is assumed she hails originally from Numeria due to her obsession with the advanced technology of that nation. She has worked as an archivist and journeyman engineer for the Pathfinder Society for a number of years and has only accepted field work very recently. Most assume her sudden interest is due to the Society's current goal to uncover the secrets of the Sky Key's operation and the inevitable discovery of other Numerian technology that mission will entail.
As might be expected, The Mechanist excels in dealing with mechanical and technological devices, and is a proficient locksmith as well as an engineer. When not on field missions or working in the Dark Archives, she spends her time crafting small mechanical devices that work by winding; she is eager to acquire some still-charged Numerian silverdiscs and play with electrically-charged designs, but such opportunities are few and far between. It is rumored The Mechanist indulges in dark desires similar to her mistress, the Paracountess Zarta Dralneen, though if so, no one has any concrete evidence, only a strange hunch that there is something sinister hidden behind her impassive face.
Rhys was instrumental in deciphering some documents found by an intrepid group of Pathfinder agents that have led to a fragment of the Sky Key, and is currently away as a reporting agent for the Pathfinders currently discovering its whereabouts. She has also heard of strange techno-magical devices being uncovered in the Emerald Spire in the River Kingdoms, and is working with the Paracountess to serve as reporting agent for the Pathfinders assigned there in regards to the deeper dungeon levels where those devices seem to originate.
The Mechanist is a slim halfling woman with pale skin, raven-black hair, and large, pale jade-green eyes flecked with gold. She wears robes (currently brown) cut to be form-fitting around her body but loose on the sleeves and flowing around her legs, with a voluminous hood, and her gear is kept at the ready with a series of packs, pouches, and belts. The Mechanist always seems to wear a pair of bulky-looking forearm-length metal gauntlets decorated with thick cogs that she wears as bracelets; despite their size, they do not seem to limit her manual dexterity. The Mechanist is quiet but self-assured, exuding self-confidence even though she rarely speaks, and she has a worrying habit of giving her fellows knowing smiles that seem to indicate she knows something important that they don't.
If anyone truly knows the real name and origins of The Mechanist, it would be the Order of the Paw cavalier Rhys Berrimac. The Mechanist always becomes alert and on-edge when Rhys is mentioned in her presence, but refuses to talk about her fellow halfling.
