From what I read, it's not scaling DCs with regards to the party, it's DCs scaled to the element. So the level 2 blacksmith will always be a level 2, even when the PCs return at level 11. He'll be really easy to convince to do stuff for them then, but being level 2 he can only do so much.

But level 2 could just be the apprentice, and the actual blacksmith is level 7 or 10, or something else, even when the party first comes there at level 1.

Likewise, an area might have a general level, with challenges being near that, with some exceptions (say simple walls and doors you have a set levels for and use them most places, for example).

hmm, I'm thinking the upper end of the gene pool should probably be a little lower than the Summoner's Eidolon; it is some potent stuff.

I notice that the latter two abilities are just rephrasing/renaming the abilities they replace in Barbarian but aren't really different.

Looks pretty nifty, though.

Any chance we'll be seeing a Pathfinder product with rules for playing as dragons, beyond the general rules for playing monsters already. Something along the lines of the old Council of Wyrms perhaps?

So, not to be a bug, but any update on the Mythic playtest?
The last update was, in case you missed it, the Mythic Playtest will be starting once Jason gets back from Italy at some point during the second week of November.

Thanks

Having run a game with a bronze dragon in the party in 3.5, tossing out the LA+HD=ECL nonsense, I'd have to say there isn't much of a problem at all basing level off of CR. Granted, the player wasn't one to maximize the full power potential out of his characters, but even a moderately competent player should've cause too much of a problem with a dragon PC. It was actually one of the non-broken/overpowered characters of the group even (the paladin was another thing entirely).

The dragon started at wyrmling, and through various magical shenanigans and stretches of time, etc, managed to accelerate her growth to an adult dragon around level 20, so she didn't have class levels either. It was a fun game, and first one I DM'd. If I did it over again, there would be things I'd change, but the dragon PC would not be one of them.

Any updates on the playtest document?

Mythical races! I want to play as the dragon, not slay them!

It seems like being able to add "mythic" abilities to creatures of any level or CR obviates the need to have high-level characters or high CR monsters at all. If a “2nd Mythic Tier/3rd level” PC is equivalent to say a 10th level PC what’s the point of having both in the game? Is it so that players and GMs can play a high level epic game without having to bother gaining all the XPs and climbing the level ladder over the course of real time days and months?

To me, the difference between say Grey Mouser and a common pick pocket is their level. The same goes for King Arthur and a foot soldier. It is not something “mythic”, it is training and experience mixed with natural talent and fortitude; the very things that the level system abstracts for the game now. No?

It could be a reasonable way to have the awesomeness of high level play without the annoying/clunky math of high level play.

Will the book also support playing as mythic races? Or at least have some guidelines for using the existing using Monsters as PCs rules with this?

Specifically, good rules for playing as dragons.

Looks interesting, regardless.

Thanks for the quick response!

I havea question!

The Drake Tamer's "Drake Apportation" seems to be usable at will, there's no X per day clause. Is this intended, and if not, what is the correct usage?
