I find that 'simpler' games can make a difference in PbP, even more so if you are DMing.

But in any case, it is a good thing there are a lot of different games out there, for different tastes ;)

PF2 has a lot of options. It makes a lot of sense when you get used to it, but it's not a simple game. For a simple game you need the one from Fisher-Price... er... Hasbro.

OSR or PF1e 'Core only' is the way to go for me :)

A note from the sidelines - the last couple of posts have made me very nervous about the 'simplicity' of PF2e :D

I will wait a bit and see how other react, but it sounds like you want to climb down and work on calming the spooked dinosaur, while also keeping it away from the snare. Don't forget some of you earned the Tame Animal feat earlier in the AP, might be useful when you get close enough.

Correct :)

Hurik wrote:
Once again, Hurik is impressed just how much Tharskh knows and sees, "I missed the snare entirely. Do you think the creature would run if I just cut the snare prematurely?"

Tharskh - sorry this type of exploration isn't your favorite. There is a good bit of it in the upcoming parts of this AP, but hopefully there will be enough encounters to keep your interest. We can move quickly through the non-encounter parts since you know this terrain

"That would make an amazing addition to our Following" - Tharskh's eyes go wide at the sight of the amazing hadrosaurid - "We must try and avoid it stepping in that trap, and perhaps we could tame it" - he nods resolute.

He pats Shilah, who seems to be slightly spooked by the massive creature - "No need for fear. Come now" - then he waits for his companions to move off.

Basically the suggestion is to come at the hadrosaurid in a way as to stop it from being trapped by the snare, and then try to befriend it with these amazing leaves from this amazing tree which hadrosaurids love :D

AC 18; Fort +7; Ref +10; Will +6 HP 30/30 // Perception +7 (+9 to Seek hunted prey)

"Agreed" - Tharskh replied to Hurik.

Sorry for the brevity, Busy couple of days, and this kind of exploration doesn't really pull me much. But I am here.

AC 18; Fort +7; Ref +10; Will +6 HP 30/30 // Perception +7 (+9 to Seek hunted prey)

Ok... I need to read, and re-read this :P

"Grandfather always made me feel welcome to the Following" - the usually silent half-orc stepped forward to speak - "When I was no more than a wildling, he was the first one able to calm me down, and allow others to take care of me. From afar, he was always there, offering advice through the trials and challenges of understanding life with the Mammoth Lords. He taught me the ways of our people, and the importance of honor and respect" - he looked to the ground.

"I came many times to him for advice and guidance. He always listened, and his words have always been a source of strength. I am honored to have been able to call Eiwa my elder" - then he finished, and sat down in the dirt with Shilah.

AC 18; Fort +7; Ref +10; Will +6 HP 30/30 // Perception +7 (+9 to Seek hunted prey)

"Why would Father Eiwa entrust us with this task? We are the young ones, the pups" - he grunted, sadly looking at Shilah - "What can we do without his guidance?" - the ranger seems a little lost, moving away to stand with Shilah in the dark. After a few moments, you can hear him howling at the nightsky.

AC 18; Fort +7; Ref +10; Will +6 HP 30/30 // Perception +7 (+9 to Seek hunted prey)

No worries! Hope you had a nice, 'device free' weekend :)

AC 18; Fort +7; Ref +10; Will +6 HP 30/30 // Perception +7 (+9 to Seek hunted prey)

Wohoo! :D

Tharskh smiles as the pup seems to become more active - "She seems healthy" - he nods to the others, then looks at the dead parent wolf - "One life is extinguished, but another is given a chance" - he raises the female wolf pup to take a closer look at its features - "You will be taken in as I have been taken in. Your name is Shilah" - then he rejoins his companions, so they can all get acquainted, and the pup can learn to recognize their smells.

AC 18; Fort +7; Ref +10; Will +6 HP 30/30 // Perception +7 (+9 to Seek hunted prey)

Apologies for the absence at this 'relevant' moment - the Christmas and New Year traveling were a doozy, with family mayhem all the way through. Was hard to post at all.

Tharskh grimaces at the death of the she-wolf, as if he himself has been the one stricken down. He rushes to her side, wanting to make sure she is not suffering anymore, and ready to deliver the coup de grace. It proved not to be necessary - "Well done brothers" - he commented to his companions - "She is at peace now"

The sounds of the trapped pup shake him out of his reverie, and he reacts instinctively almost like a beast himself, primal memories of when he lived among his own pack reaching to the surface in a haze of ferociousness and protection instinct. He crouches over the crevasse, peering and sniffing inside, producing canine like yips as he attempts to garner the condition of the small creature, and coax it to come to him.

Nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Apologies for the delay!

Tharskh growls and fires another volley at the approaching foe - "Down!"

Hunt Prey on Green.
Hunted Shot.
Strike

The math:

To hit: +7 +1 (from Kheyji) on first shot.
Damage: d6 +2 (Gravity Weapon) +1d8 (Hunter's Edge - Precision) on first shot that hits.
To hit: +7 -5 on second shot
Damage: d6 on second shot
To hit: +7 -10 on third shot
Damage: d6 on third shot

Shortbow HS: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 7 + 1 = 20
Damage if it hits: 1d6 + 2 + 1d8 ⇒ (5) + 2 + (5) = 12

Shortbow 2 HS: 1d20 + 7 - 5 ⇒ (7) + 7 - 5 = 9
Damage if it hits: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Shortbow 3 Strike: 1d20 + 7 - 10 ⇒ (5) + 7 - 10 = 2
Damage if it hits: 1d6 ⇒ 4

AC 18; Fort +7; Ref +10; Will +6 HP 30/30 // Perception +7 (+9 to Seek hunted prey)

Thx for the explanation Miriani. This third strike would be at -10, right?

AC 18; Fort +7; Ref +10; Will +6 HP 30/30 // Perception +7 (+9 to Seek hunted prey)

Tharskh releases arrow after arrow at the one approaching them.

Hunt Prey on Green.
Hunted Shot.
Shift next to Kheyji.
(I think I already asked this before, so apologies for that, but I cannot use hunted shot as an action, and then shoot again right?)

The math:
To hit: +7 +1 (from Kheyji) on first shot.
Damage: d6 +2 (Gravity Weapon) +1d8 (Hunter's Edge - Precision) on first shot that hits.
To hit: +7 -5 on second shot
Damage: d6 on second shot

Shortbow: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 7 + 1 = 20
Damage if it hits: 1d6 + 2 + 1d8 ⇒ (2) + 2 + (3) = 7

Shortbow 2: 1d20 + 7 - 5 ⇒ (12) + 7 - 5 = 14
Damage if it hits: 1d6 ⇒ 3

AC 18; Fort +7; Ref +10; Will +6 HP 30/30 // Perception +7 (+9 to Seek hunted prey)

Yep, sounds good ;)

AC 18; Fort +7; Ref +10; Will +6 HP 30/30 // Perception +7 (+9 to Seek hunted prey)

Understood! Thank you for the explanation Miriani ;)

AC 18; Fort +7; Ref +10; Will +6 HP 30/30 // Perception +7 (+9 to Seek hunted prey)

Noob question about 5e and Tharskh - how many times a day can I cast Gravity Bow?

If I can cast it again, I will :)

"Thank you for your blessings Kheyji" - the ranger nodded at his companion, with a deferential nod.

AC 18; Fort +7; Ref +10; Will +6 HP 30/30 // Perception +7 (+9 to Seek hunted prey)

With a snarl and a nod, Tharskh focuses on the closest attacker (Green?), and lets two arrows fly in quick succession.

Hunt Prey on Green.
Gravity Weapon on Short Bow
Hunted Shot.

So... I will display the math in case I am making any mistakes:
To hit: +7 +1 (from Kheyji) on first shot.
Damage: d6 +2 (Gravity Weapon) +1d8 (Hunter's Edge - Precision) on first shot that hits.
To hit: +7 -5 on second shot
Damage: d6 on second shot

Shortbow 1: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 1 = 21
Damage if it hits: 1d6 + 2 + 1d8 ⇒ (1) + 2 + (7) = 10

Shortbow 2: 1d20 + 7 - 5 ⇒ (18) + 7 - 5 = 20
Damage if it hits: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Total damage is combined due to Hunted Shot = 15

At Rockloom, he felt elated at finally being proclaimed a member of the Broken Tusks in front of all - it brought a smile to his face, something rare indeed... And immediately wiped away by Pakano's words.

But before he can, War appears to have come to them!

The half-orc had already a hand on his companion's shoulder as he noticed the maul being drawn - he was not sure his intention was to calm Hurik down or encourage him, but then the point became moot, as all hell broke loose.

I got lucky there :)

"Thank you Imek" - Tharskh nodded - "I am no good with these things" - then he joins Hurik.

Ok, I think next time we need to split into different groups.
