Appearance:
Tess is a tall woman, right at 6 foot, though her lithe frame only ways 114 pounds. She has shiny white hair, which she keeps trimmed to just below her chin in length, and her solid-colored eyes are a deep forest green. Her well-worn outfit consists of a pair of sturdy boots, breeches, a tunic, a vest, sturdy gloves, and an oil-skin cloak. She also often wears a suit of studded leather when travelling or working in remote places. She keeps a bow and small blade with her as well while on the road.
Background:
Tessarayth, or Tess as she usually is called, is a forlorn elf from Magnimar. She grew up as a orphan waif on the streets of Magnimar. Unlike the other street kids, both physiologically and psychologically, she spent a lot of time alone, wandering amongst the monuments throughout the city. Though she could not read or write, she loved to sketch the structures as she wandered about them. She began to study the markings on buildings, and the design of the buildings, and organized her sketches in a categorical way, and began linking certain traits of the monuments together in her sketches. One night while creeping about a heavily engraved building, she was discovered by a older human and his armed escort. The man had his guard hold her, while he questioned her and rifled through her knapsack. He found her sketches and became very intrigued by her. He introduced himself to her as Albrosin. After he queried her for several hours about her purpose for being there, and, mostly, about her sketches. He asked her if she would like to come serve him as an assistant, and in return, he would get her off the streets, make sure she always had food and clean drink, and eh would teach her to be literate. She agreed, and spent the next couple of decades learning from the human man, while assisting him in his work. He turned out to be a minor noble in a small house in Magnimar. A local sage, he happened to have made a study of most of the sites she had drawn. They traveled throughout much of Varisia of the next 20 years, visting ancient ruins, monuments, and sites of historical interest and/or mystery. She would complete several detailed diagrams and site sketches while Albrosin would take notes and detailed measurements. While working together in a ruin one day, they discovered that she had a small amount of natural magical talent. She was able to use this to enhance her studies into the ancient monuments in the region.
Then, almost ten years ago now, Albrosin passed away, for he had aged much while they had travelled these last score of years.
When he passed on to Pharasma's court, he bequeathed Tess with all his notes and studies, a considerable amount of coin, and many of his instruments that he used in his work. She left Magnimar, and continued to explore Varisia, cataloguing its ancient structures and other interesting sites. She has been to all four of the major cities in Varisia (Magnimar, Riddleport, Korvosa, and Kaer Maga) and studied many of the ancient monuments in each. Having just left Riddleport most recently, she is making her way east, planning on checking some sites she has heard of out in the wilderness (such as Viperwall, or Skull's Crossing).
