"I think we should hit up our contacts in our respective parts of the city to see what we can find out and then as Amyra suggested we meet up tonight to finish this. I have a couple of resources that I can tap to gather us more information."

As she talks, Tess opens a drawer on one of the cabinets which is filled with rolls of twine that have been dyed in different colors. She then hastily scrawls a note and tacks it to the map at the address where the Fishery is located.

Anyone looking at the note will see it reads Ghost girl gave up location for free. Yes, I don't mind that you read this. Yes, I mean you. Who else would I be talking to?

Linguistics DC 20:

You are fairly certain that the note is in a code. As you scan the other notes pinned to the map, you can see that they are all in code.

Later, once everyone leaves.

After locking up her sanctum, Tess takes a few moments to rumple up her clothing and mess up her hair and then go upstairs. She nods to Dominic, the half-elf swashbuckler who is tending bar. Scanning the room, there are a couple of adventurers sleeping off what will probably be an epic hangover. Tess smiles and says "I assume the lazy b@$+@rd is still asleep?"

Dominic simply sighs and then nods.

Tess goes into the back and collects a bucket of water from the rainbarrels and then goes upstairs to the guest rooms, pulling out a set of keys and then unlocking a door.

Putting the keys back in her pocket, Tess tosses the entire contents of the bucket onto the sleeping Varisian teenager in the bed. As he awakes with a stuttering spurt, Tess enters and closes the door, then locks it.

"Time to earn your keep Reynard. I need to know everything that you know about the Fishery located here." Tess then gives him the corner where it sits.

"It will probably take me a while to talk to some people and find out about it" says Reynard.

Tess shakes her head with a solid *NO* and adds "I recently received some reasonably reliable information that this is his current base of operations. I don't want to spook him, and I definitely don't want you to go running off half-cocked and get either captured or killed. I simply need to know what you know about the place."

Reynard's eyes narrow as he sits up. As he does, we can see that he has scars and burn marks on both his torso and upper arms. Reynard then simply says "Okay, let me get dressed first and I'll tell you what I know, and point you towards the people who should know what I don't."

Tess nods, tosses Reynard a towel, and then wordlessly steps out of the room. As she closes the door, she thinks to herself I hope to the gods I am right. That boy has suffered enough.

Tess leads the group through the predawn light, through side streets and back alleys and then eventually down a set of dark stairs and into what appears to be a cellar. The cellar is filled with racks of kegs, and Tess reaches between a stack of kegs and pulls a lever and the entire rack swings open, showing a locked metal door. She pulls out a set of keys and with a practiced hand unlocks the 3 deadbolt locks built into the door and then opens it.

Stepping inside, a short flight of stairs lead down into a space that is roughly 70' on a side. There are a couple of tables in the center of the space that have stacked folders on them. On one wall is what appears to be a conspiracy wall, with a map of Korvosa set up and a sketch of Gaedrin Lamm in the center, and sketches pinned up all over the map, with various colors of twine connecting to the central sketch of Lamm.

On the opposite wall is a pair of training dummies, a weight bench, and a variety of athletic training devices, as well as a variety of practice weapons that look like they fit into the hands of the training dummies.

On the wall that the stairs are located in is a series of filing cabinets, along with a maniquin that has what are clearly her vigilante accoutrements.

"Let me clear a table and we'll get started."

"I have a place, but it's sort of a private place that I would ask you not to show anyone."

I have the safehouse social talent, which is a hidden area under my bar.

"So, now that we have been brought together, what are our plans for getting to Lamm? Are we doing a frontal assault, or sneaking into his place?"

Having noticed the reactions from the others when Lamm's name is mentioned, Tess will add "I just want to make this perfectly clear: I do not kill, and were one of you to attempt to kill him I would have to stop you. He needs to be brought to justice, and serve prison time for his crimes."

"Very well, I shall come clean too. I'm also known, at least by the Korvosan guard, as the Avenging Angel. I know, I know, it's a terrible name, but I didn't make it up, they did. I've been trying to capture Lamm for almost two years now without success. That ends tonight, however."

Knowledge (Local) DC 15:

You have heard that the Avenging Angel is a Varisian Human woman.

"My name is Tess, and I run a bar called the Laughing Azlanti, but most people just call it the Azlanti in Northpoint. Let's just say that I owe Gaedrin Lamm a debt, and I am anxious to pay."

Tess lacks knowledge (local). I'll probably fix that when we level.

The half-orc woman says nothing, but her eyes harden unconsciously when Lamm's name is mentioned.

Tess will once again pocket her card, then leave out the front door again, saying goodnight to her staff and regulars, then once she breaks line of sight from the Azlanti will move into an alley and make her way to her sanctum, then change and hit the streets.

Tess will nod to the waitress, then deftly pocket the piece of cardboard and go back to serving drinks.

Once things were winding down, Tess will turn things over to her assistant manager, tally the votes for the seasonal beer, and then go to her office downstairs. Once inside, she will pull the card from her pocket and study it, trying to remember where she had seen it's like before.

I know what it is, but here's my knowledge local to see if Tess can Identify it.

BTW, in case anyone is confused by my alts, I feel I should clear things up: Tess is a half-orc, but her Vigilante half is "human" (that's what she makes herself appear to be, and what she is known as).

I realize I missed a part of a question: What kind of crime do you most dispise? Exploitation of Children. Gaedrin Lamm has been ruining the lives of generations of children in Korvosa and Tess has so far been unable to permanently stop him. It eats at her.

She also has a pretty mean streak towards rapists. While she never kills, she has crippled a pair of men who thought that no meant yes.

Is it possible to take an archetype for only a few levels? Say I like 6/7 abilities, can I skip taking the archetype for that level? Namely Detective Bard. Can I keep Inspire Courage?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I know this was a silly idea, it was meant to be. But it was also a fun mechanic. I gave my players magical kittens in a world I created. It was pretty standard D&D world, it was before we had anything mroe than the core book. Actually it was before Pathfinder was published even. We converted partway through the game. And when we converted we switched worlds, and the kittens lost their magic. It had grown out of control. But here's what I did.

Each kitten was unique and gave somebody something. They all named the kittens. All the dice numbers are off the top of my head I don't actually remember it was about 3 years ago.

Torpedo
This kitten is heavy armor trained and wears armor that produces spikes when it nears enemies, can be used as a thrown weapon for a d10 of damage.

Tobasco
This little kitty lights on fire and deals 1d6 Fire Damage.

Shadow
Kitty creates up to 2 orbs of darkness per day.

I don't remember this ones name
Gave +2(+4?) to owners stealth.

Detective Mittens
+2 Sense Motive 1d4 poison damage, DC13(?) lasts 1d4 rounds.

Earthquake
Dealt Sonic damage 1d6 from tremors it caused.

Boomerange
When thrown this cat comes back. I gave it this quality after the barbarian threw it as hard as he could.

Light Kitty, I don't remember his name
He cured for 1d4 and could be used as a light.

I know I'm probably missing a few, but these are what I remember. i ended up combining DNA Digivolve style.

Torbasco
Combination Torpedo, Tobasco, Boomerang.

I combined the Stealth Cats

Detective Mittens with Earthquake, Light Cat.

I guess the reason I'm posting this is, How would you make it work? I never really gave them super powerfull abilities, until I combined them but at that point they were level 6+? The barbarian would regularly use Torbasco as his ranged weapon and then charge up with his weapon. He's really the only guy who used the cats consistently. And after they got combined they were no longer kittens they were cats.

EDIT: Maybe this makes a Difference but I didn't really understand treasure in full at the time so I didn't really give them treasure. I just gave them items that I felt would make them stronger or fit the world. So these cats ended up working like a magical bonus.

If I have a fighter with 9 INT does that mean I get 1 skill point per level? Or is 2 the minimum?

I was reading a thread where someone was having an issue with magical weapons and he got his problem resolved. But it left me with a Question. He was proposing buying 2 +2 weapons so He was told it would cost him 16,000 which is correct. I think. But What I read it as was creating two +1 long swords, then adding another +1 enhancement. Wouldn't that cost 20,000?

If I buy a Cracked Orange Prism But I am say, a Fighter, does that mean I can cast detect magic?

I know this is a question that probably gets askeD a lot so I was wondering if someone with experience with using the online community and play by post could either post a FAQ, or a how to guide. Or if it exsists point me in the right direction please.

Thank you
