A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

Action 1

After a later night than his fellows and still reveling in the rest that he was still enjoying Kellog barely felt the turn happening, it started as a dream of someone turning on some mining device and then as the trembling happened he wondered if it would stop and by the time it did he was back in dreams.

Action 2

"I, sir, have served as a law keeper and guard in the town of Redstone and am able to lend my skills and my hand to your services while you are gone." Kellog fairly convinced himself that his role would be simply as to guard his party and keep out other intruders as far as participating in larceny he would not take part.

Persuasion and Friendly situation: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

"I am also a firm believer in temperance and have managed to use my skills in keeping the peace"

Action 3

"Is there anything in particular, you would advise us to be wary of or danger that could happen during your departure"

When the dish buzzed Kellog grew concerned, Is this their nightmare machine

----
Kellog frowned at the request to "recover" the Noble's winnings.

"While I am able bodied and can become a caretaker while this Noble is off, I am not inclined to include thievery, despite the nature of this Noble." He looked over at Balanders,

"Though if you are concerned for your friend," then looking at the rest of his party, "and you feel this is a task that needs our attention. I feel the least I can do is assure your safety. I am certainly able bodied to move lift guard or work where needed"

"Is there a way to get what you need without removing the item it sounds like he rightfully gained?"

Kellog, do you think over the course of their trip north that Altha would become familiar enough with his disposition and moods for her to discover her 'Aggression' ability? I figure it would first trigger with Kellog since he's the tank-y one and it helps might attacks. I imagine they were in a skirmish together at some point and Altha emotionally connected, her anger and adrenaline feedig Kellog's and imbuing him with stronger might attacks for the duration. From there, she'd learn to connect to and empower others as well. Thoughts?

Sure no problem as I probably would be taking advantage of training for the opportunist ability

Kellog observed the nobility at the bar. Slavery never bothered him as it was so abundant and certain to be a source of problems for many that he mostly had to keep eyes on those that believed in a different sort of "Justice". He found the best way to get a feel for the crowd was to interact and he drank and engaged happily with the gaming crowd careful to watch his shins. He is sure to be careful with his words because he really was curious about Uxphon

Interacting with the crowd, gaining information on Dish and general atmosphere (Trained in pleasant social interactions) Spending Effort -3 Intelect: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Yup sorry new hire mucked up a project then read 45 when I was done saw 46 was up. Having trouble keeping up.

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

It was good fun no question. I'm enjoying it greatly.

As they traveled the weariness that had overcome Kellog when they first met clearly evaporated. He had warmed to travel and companionship, in his conversations and across the journey it became clear that he began to watch over Agia significantly.

He was generally absorbed in conversation regarding her beliefs and found them somewhat compelling but every time Altha started getting technical he got a bit lost.

Driethik to him was a mystery, not incredibly open and withdrawn. Never the less, that stand-offishness hasn't really stopped Kellog from trying to get him to open up. Though more than once has Kellog gotten a cold eye from Driethik for merely giving him a warm pat on the shoulder.

He seemed to take things at ease and despite saying he would try to be more cautious, he still greeted travelers with openness and warmth more frequently than the group was comfortable with. Thankfully it never turned out as disastrous, for when it was particularly dark or strange he has showed restraint and engaged with the party before greeting travelers.

Whenever he met priests he would talk hopefully to them of Redstone and it's needs. And always his spirits generally contributing to optimistic evenings whenever the group crossed paths with friendly travelers.

There's a recommended bond for Defends the Weak that I think fits given what happened during the Margr fight, Kellog blames himself for Agia falling to the Margrs

4xp to the +1 Might edge already stated.
4xp to get a new fighting move

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

How do I get added to the player/character list. Is there a trick somewhere.

Thanks in advance

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

Works for me.
BTW I'm spending 4xp on Might Edge (making it 2) Goad would be nice to have for free

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

Kellog looks up at Dreithik with a furrowed brow, "You can talk? to them, guidance on the cylinder perhaps, but mostly how to find Priests for Redstone, Numenera is plentiful and they were the best prepared to help Redstone defend against it"

I figure this can feed Kellog and the party a quest to head up the Black Riage or elsewhere to find Aeon Priests to settle in Redstone and at least get us moving in the direction of the next adventure

---
At the dome when the cylinder is replaced Kellog contemplates his prior sacrifice, remembering the recent conflict and picks up the crystal detonation, Gemma had far more forethought than I.

----

After returning home Kellog discussed his travels letting his folk know that he was reluctant to leave his new-found companions to their lonesome given the dangers that are out in the wastes. He also stated that someone from Redstone should be there to petition the Priests on behalf of the town. The priests and travelers were always most interested in the mines in the village.

He made no actual commitment to return and Joyelle was most understanding.

1. Devil's Spine I'm in with Kellog (I too had been planning on running it for a tabletop)
2. You are correct or the 20 meaning you don't spend pool on effort if you did.
3. Intellect pool was spent on taunting leader (that was assuming that it would have taken two turns)
4. Sorry for spotty posts busy time currently

Kellog kneels exhausted after the fight heaving heavily, he counts the survivors and is moderately surprised that they have, at the least survived.

Altha said wrote:
She wearily raised a hand and pointed a finger at Kellog, “Next time, you take point, you bad ass.”

He smiled a moment, "That's the idea"

Recovery 1 action: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Recovery 10 minutes: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

"Forgive me I was far to trusting for wandering out in the wilds and exposed us to the beastmen"

Wandering through the Margrs' camp Kellog comes across the remains of the priests. Stricken he stands about the camp silently not entirely tuning in on the conversation regarding eating the beasts. Numbly he gathers the priests gear I must take what I can back to Redstone

After gathering the priests belongings he scanned the items remaining and thankful that Agia grabbed the explosive, He looks towards his new-found companions "Altha, you say you are good with machines. Do you think you will be able to repair the thing?"

---
Being the healthiest Kellog decided to only snatch a few winks while watching over the restless sleep of the group, still suffering the "anger of the gods"

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

I've been spending my own pool Might should be down 5 more to 4 I think or at least 2. And intellect should be down 3. Did I miss a processes for adjusting our own pools

Kellog blinks off the blood from his eyes and continues to stand over Agia's body, the mad giggling allows him to see Agia for who she is.

Hearing the crash of Altha's numenera he thinks
Truth! I can't be in two places at once and all of this is because of my brash approach

He takes more defensive stance above Agia and stand's against the remaining Abhumans.

attack with pierce on Abhuman(5 damage): 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (15) - 3 = 12

He yells in Truth hoping they have some idea of his words, "I am a stone against your assault, leave us now!"

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

If that 20 comes around and we are using optional rule to trade effect for damage

crit effect:

In a blood haze imagining Agia as Joyelle, Kellog leaps from where he crouches near her body heaving his sword in to the small of the beasts belly, carried away by his adrenaline and his strength his blow cleaves the beast straight up to his skull and rips the monsters head from his shoulder.

A rain of blood covers Kellog as the horned bloody head flies and lands with a thump amidst those that followed him.

There is silence for a moment and all that is heard his the rough breathing of the former simple man.

one can hope ;)

Not sure if I have to activate the Bracelet once it's on Dreithik or not, given his condition so here is the complete intention of my actions and let them take as long as they take

Standing above Dreithik's body Kellog grabs his hand to activate the bracelet He at least has his mind together so perhaps he can manipulate the bubble He thinks. Then he moves toward Agia, the vision of Joyelle in his head blurring with Agia. He screams his rage toward the face of the leader Abhuman.

taunt leader(spending intellect effort -3 Int): 1d20 - 3 + 3 ⇒ (9) - 3 + 3 = 9

I am certain this will probably not happen next round which is why he is spending effort again, I'm also staging the next turn in any case b/c chaos happens I will edit if I get a chance
Standing above Agia he swings his sword at the leader
attack the leader(spending might effort -2 Might, only 4 damage): 1d20 - 3 + 3 ⇒ (20) - 3 + 3 = 20

The more 'descriptive' your actions the better chance it has of actually occurring.

Remember that my enjoyment comes from reading about your PCs' creative actions.

Yes I apologize since I started my wife's illness took a turn and I'm doing full-time work and home care and supporting my son. Simply stated life got challenging, I'm missing things on various fronts hobby included

Here's the original

Sadly goad only works on a hit. Given the previous conversation I need to remove a Bracelet and get it to Dreithik, tactically that's leaving Agia open to more attacks.

Standing against the raging Abhumans Kellog calls to Dreithik "Over here!"

Removing his bracelet he continues to taunt the leader in the only matter he knows roaring loudly at the leader.

taunting the leader: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (2) - 3 = -1

It just rolled that die I like the first but your call.

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

Or toss his direction

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

Darn had a written up a draft and had an issue arise @ work

Quickly I taunt the leader and take off my braclet to hand to Driethik

taunt: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (20) - 3 = 17

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

And I just wasn't thinking about air drops, though I just had an episode of deadlands where the party dropped a ghost rock bomb

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

perhaps I'm confused is a short range not the same as a short radius, if I throw something in a short range I am likely to be within the short radius most Detonations explode in an immediate radius but this one does a bit more, Then the energy explodes in a long radius and does 4 points of damage ignoring armor catching not only me but those I'm defending, to me it is a last resort because 8 damage coming my way is pretty significant. I guess it's sort of supposed to be last resort item but given the nature of Kellog he is likely around charges he doesn't want to see hurt

Here's the cypher
Detonation (Crystal) L4
Usable: Crystal shard the size of a fist (thrown, short range)
Effect: Explodes with wild energy and crystal shrapnel. The shrapnel strikes in a short radius, inflicting damage equal to the cypher level. The energy extends to a long radius and inflicts 4 points of damage that ignores Armor.

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

While there are vast numbers Kellog feels confident, my choice in giving up the cypher was that while you can throw it a short distance it explodes for a long distance, unless of course I was misreading it, it seemed a bit self destructive of course hindsight is demonstrating that maybe 4 damage wouldn't be so bad

Kellog sighs in frustration at Agia running ahead maneuvers to defend her against the leader.

Kellog swings his sword Effort to Hit and Pierce (-3 Might) on the attack:
Big Swing on the boss: 1d20 - 3 + 3 ⇒ (15) - 3 + 3 = 15

success:

Landing a hit on the leader Kellog cries to the leader Can't pick on someone your own size!!! use Goad on the leader -1 Might

Quote:

Goad:
After you
successfully attack a creature, the difficulty of
Speed defense rolls made by all others against
attacks by that creature is decreased by one
step until the end of the next round. Enabler.

failure:
The terrors still nag constantly as Kellog see's Joyell's nightmare before him

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

Sorry for the delay life issues.

Yes my armor is 4 because of warding shield from Defends the Weak Character Options 56 (as long as I have a shield up)
Now that the bad guys are close and personal Kellog throws back his crossbow and draws his sword.

He steps before Agia and swings when the Margr closes trying to pull it's attention exclusively on him.

I attack the first that gets close to Agia.

Spending 1 might to goad if he hits

broad sword attack fatigued: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (7) - 3 = 4

The shadows of his nightmares emerge against him all he sees is many upon him, His swings are just not landing.

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

Kellog plans to keep pace with the fellow party members that are in the lead, if none move forward Kellog will draw his crossbow and shoot at the leader.
I'm fine keeping the last roll but here's an attack if you wanted me to roll again
Attack with Crossbow(exhausted): 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (9) - 3 = 6

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

Kellog saw nothing but white explode from Agia a coolness enveloped him and he noticed a cool shimmer to his skin.

Well that's handy

that set's Kellog's armor to 4 so he feels a tad brave

"My thanks Lady Blue. Stay behind me if you can."

Kellog stands before the party drawing his sword and shield.

When the abhumans approach he will attack.
Attack with Broadsword(exhausted): 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (4) - 3 = 1

Well at least I can defend.

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

Kellog returns the goggles to the shrine taking the wand I can see a number of uses for this

Kellog walks aside the aneen, slightly more accustomed to the heat than most and far more than Agia. The sun warmth giving still something that he turns toward.

---

Seeing the campsite and the guards Kellog becomes relieved. Ahh more fellow travelers, Perhaps they have seen the priests or know something of the nightmares

Unless someone stops him

The beam of Kellog's teeth appear as he hails the campers.

"Greetings fellow travelers in these desperate wastes. I am Kellog of Redstone and these are my recent companions. We have been traveling the wastes seeking our town's Aeon priests and wonder if you may have crossed their path"

Pleasant social interactions: 1d20 + 3 - 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 - 3 = 2

Rats, can't seem to get a good roll in this forumy thing

Realizing he may have moved too quickly, or said something stupid, Kellog stands his ground before the group.

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

Kellog looks sets the crystal down among the offerings and picks up something possibly more suitable.

Intellect check to identify anything that may be useful: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (9) - 3 = 6

possibly like the bracelet or a vial though I have no idea what I'm looking at

"If the priests were here and moved on, perhaps they knew of something to fix this temple, you all seem to be able to get as much rest as anyone else these days. Lets follow before dangers fall on them or you become as exhausted as I."

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

Based on prior encounters with townsfolk I'm going to assume that with the exception of priests and possibly nobles the general populace of Redstone is unaware of any relay or god if that's fair to say

Kellog sat with his back against the cool tile doing as he has done for the past two weeks catching what little glimpse of sleep and watching over his newfound friends struggles with consciousness.

"More gods of the ancients, my family has generally let the priests handle things regarding the strange numenera left by the worlds before us."

Kellog looks about at the offerings, "My sister gave me a fairly destructive crystal before I set out, the sad part is from what I understand is the blast is further than the distance I can throw it. So to me it's little use."

A look at Agia, "Do you believe whatever gods were interested in this would be offended at an exchange. Although, like I said I'm not adept at understanding these things. Perhaps something simple."

Agia Wrote wrote:
"Ugh, if the people 'round here were the roaming type instead of squatting in their little stone village we could just trash it and have them move on if it didn't work."

Kellog scowls a little, "We do our part. You can't expect entire villages to leave their homes."

Perception: 1d20 - 9 ⇒ (5) - 9 = -4
Can't see a darned thing

"I won't object to rest if only to give my eyes time, though if this is the cause," indicating the blasted bits, "I would only be welcoming friends to commiserate with. But at some point we all need to settle down."

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

Sorry I mistook the bleating as yet another assault

Kellog says, "Greetings Altha, The nightmares have overcome us, my niece saw terrors from within this dome, I felt it was the source I came, I mean to end it."

Kellog spends effort to resist the blindness (already suffering an overall one step due to exhaustion)
-2 Might

Resist blindness: 1d20 - 3 + 3 ⇒ (2) - 3 + 3 = 2

"Agh!! I can barely see my hand in front of my face"

Blinking toward Dreithik, "Apologies friend, I am a guard and would have gladly helped but nightmares affect me poorly, I took this on not expecting anyone to be her and am gladdened to have assistance."

Kellog nodded toward Agia "As it stands without Blue's help I would have been at a lost to enter. Truth smiles for your aid"

Entering the darkened dome, Kellog sighed looking at the blasted bits, "I've no affinity for such numenera but I can say that our step one has turned into step one through one hundred or so."

"The best I can provide is to watch over you should anything try and come alive or come crawling out the dark spaces"

Blinking at the spots from the flash in the darkness, "Well as best I can in my condition, at least I can provide a strong arm should you need it."

providing an asset to lift or move heaving things. Watching over the group as best I can

A Honorable Glaive who Defends the Weak

A hale sunbeaten man with dark hair wearing skins over metal and bearing a shield and broadsword comes over the dunes. Staring through bloodshot eyes, clearly suffering as many of the Redstone folk have been Kellog sheaths his weapon and raising his hands calls out, "Hail strangers, I'm not sure who you are or where you come from, I am Kellog from Redstone, though my travel has been slow."

He examines the desert to determine how they arrived

Observing for Tracks: 1d20 ⇒ 13

Success:
His brow furrows as he has noticed that though the tracks show they are from Redstone none are folk he knows

He appraises the group, battered and bruised, Well it seems the lot of us are suffering is some way or another with a sigh he assesses that they don't mean him harm.

"What do you know of this structure and the terrors it s. . ."

Hearing the scream of the beast he charges in that direction

---
For action 2
Knowledge Local: 1d20 ⇒ 13 fail due to exhation

Kellog approaches the dome and investigates as best he can, passing his hand over the tiles pressing on them tapping them tracing outlines in the triangles.

He does this with some hesitation is there some psychic issue going on.

investigation: 1d20 ⇒ 1 free intrusion
He looks over at his new found companions. "Well friends I am finding my rope running short and difficult to maintain my composure."

Joining the Discussion thread regarding Kellog's state of sleeplessness.

Are you generating starting Cyphers?

Fabian Benavente wrote:

That sounds fine. So is your PC sleep-deprived as well or is he somehow immune to it all?

I'm not sure what that means exactly I wouldn't want to be incredibly ineffective in play but if it's something like everything is one step harder that's fine.

Otherwise the Cypher solution may work, a treasure his sister had that she gave him before he set out (That way I'm neither immune or affected at the start)

I'm not a fan of immune.

Fabian Benavente wrote:
Did you just now have a change of heart and decided to take matters into your own hand?

The idea is that the nightmares have recently touched his niece who cares a great deal about and a small amount of coaxing by his sister leads him to investigate. I haven't caught up to the whole story maybe after the Aeon Priests left but before the party, you described numerous tracks.
