Hey guys. I'm considering getting back into PbP, but I'm not sure if I will be able to devote the time I'd like too, but I'm also not sure how that meshes with the time everyone here puts in :).

Anyway, I was wondering how the campaign is going and if you guys have any interest in Tavlor coming back at some point :).

I'm sorry guys, but I think I'm going to have to retire Tavlor. I love the game, and this is a great group, but I do not have the time and energy to keep up with things. I don't want to try and continue half-heartedly. Thanks for the good times.

"It seems Desna is being a bit mischievous with my gifts... I can shoot rays of energy right by all of our enemies." Tavlor smiles apologetically to his companions.

How many are left?

"Lets try this again, " says Tavlor as he concentrates on the closest skeleton.

Ranged Touch attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3

I will be out of town from Thursday to Tuesday, although I should have access to the net the whole time so it shouldn't matter.

I feel like I've rolled more crappy rolls in the last month on these boards than ever before...

"Aha! So we do have some undead to deal with. Looks like the goblins' information wasn't useless. Take this!"

Tavlor casts Disrupt Undead on the nearest skeleton.
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

If necessary I will then move so that I am on the back line.

"Well, this should be interesting."

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 15

Tavlor attempts to cheer the companions up as they leave the shack. He claps Zaladrel on the shoulder.

"Desna provides indeed! We should not let the dreariness of this swamp dampen our spirits. There is beauty and excitement in our future. Just hopefully not much danger." He smiles at the group.

Thanks, Omara, that is awesome.

"I got scratched up a bit, but it's not too bad."

Tavlor begins to glow slightly as he uses his Heavenly fire to heal himself.

hp healed: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

"There, all better. What is that you've found, Runa?"

I was more annoyed that I rolled 1 twice than at the actual rat :)

That rat is annoying!

"Ack! Stupid rat."

Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1

"OW! Stupid rat!." Seeing Lissa's acid splash at her rat, he sends a bit at his own. "Good idea, Lissa! These things shouldn't be much of a problem."

Touch Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1

When my turn comes up:

"Ack! Filthy vermin!" Tavlor appears startled as he points a finger at a rat no one has hit and casts Magic Missile.

Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 18

"I will stay with you, Runa. Hopefully nothing will jump out and pound me into the ground this time." He smiles at his companions.

I would love to, but I'm not sure if the character I have built for CoT would fit... I'll post it over there.

"It doesn't look like anyone is still living here."

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 19

Tavlor whispers to Lissa, "I don't like this place either." He follows the group inside.

"Be careful, Runa. Last time we approached a hut in the swamp, I nearly got killed. If we think this witch might be involved, we should announce our presence."

"Nice job, Ulf! I would never have seen that ford."

"Well, we don't know if it leads to the Undead Lair exactly. We just know the Goblins found their treasure here... but you're probably right. Ameiko said to follow this path here, and we can avoid a lot of the marsh."

"Well, I can point the way, but perhaps someone more... sturdy... should lead the way." Tavlor gestures forward as if to say after you to one of the warrior types in the group.

"I need no weapons or armor, but all of you having the best weapons possible is ok with me." He smiles at his companions gathering new equipment.

"I don't think we ever determined how much it might be worth. I don't think we need worry about Ameiko cheating us. We know where she lives."

"I have no magic for cleaning. I do have a spell, however, that is specifically built to harm undead. Perhaps it will help us in our next quest."

Sorry, I wasn't around yesterday. Just trying to catch up. We're split now, some left the dragon, some at the cathedral? We haven't repaired the chest, or sold anything yet?

sweet! :D

Yay Ameiko!

I knew Omara was a potential rival, and I think her teasing of Tavlor is an entirely enjoyable experience :). Lissa too, is a perfectliy reasonable rival.

Those two relationships in mind, there is no reason we can't all be friends, and mutually share friendship/devotion with Ameiko. By no means do I intend to take the central role in that relationship at the expense of other PCs.

Sorry to double post, but I had a quick question about the relationships. I'm not sure what benefits they might add later on, and I have been under the impression that we can have relationships with any of the NPCs, but I was wondering what everyone had planned for their characters, as I don't want to step on anyone's toes, or if we are in competition, I wouldn't mind knowing that either ;). I don't want anyone to be annoyed by it, though, so if anyone doesn't like the direction Tavlor goes, please let me know.

Tavlor is definitely going to pursue a close friendship and romantic relationship with Ameiko, although, as with all childhood crushes, he may get close and find it's not a relationship he wants to be that close. That will depend a lot on the NPC.

He is also going to try to get a rivalry going with Shandru. The guide seemed to suggest Shandru and Ameiko were close friends, and Tavlor is going to be jealous of that. Also, I'm interested in how the AP is going to deal with rivalries. I'm looking forward to meeting him so I can craft a good insult ;).

All that said, DM Wellard, or anyone else, if you have a problem with anything I roleplay, I am more than willing to change :).

Just wanted to add to my comment earlier about being busy, that I'm still massively excited about this AP, and think everyone is doing a great job with these characters.

Ok, I will take a 10 then. I'll roleplay it if it's convenient, but I imagine it might get a bit annoying all the time :).

Was I able to see Ameiko in the Dragon? I am supposed to make Charisma checks to get the bonus from my NPC trait, but I suppose it doesn't matter most of the time. How do you want to handle that, DM Wellard?

"Yeah, that sounds good, I'll go check the Curious Goblin... I might both of them there." He gives Ulf a clap on the back, and nods at Runa while looking around for Ameiko.

Tavlor looks serious at Ulf's request. "I'm afraid I must admit a level of ignorance. The battle yesterday was my first real confrontation with evil creatures. Though I was here the last time Goblins invaded Sandpoint, I wasn't able to do anything. Undead... well all I have learned is from Father Zantus. I'm afraid I've spent my learning on topics of magic, rather than those I might battle with said magic." He smiles at that thought.

"I was wondering, if we haven't sold that jewelry we found, if we could show it to Ameiko. If it originally came from the Kaijitsu Star she might recognize it or its style or something."

I'm all for you keeping track. My suggestion is no one does anything to their totals until you say so. Maybe put it in bold or something :).

I'm waiting until the total comes in before subtracting the fan from my total. Just remember to include it in the total treasure everyone should get a part of.

Tavlor wakes and sees Ulf leaving the church, just as he is getting ready. He hurries, trying to catch up with him, but doesn't catch him until they arrive at the Rusty Dragon. "Good day, Ulf. It will be surprising if we can have quite the adventure we had yesterday, but we should give it our best, eh?"

@Omara I don't mind paying for the fan, I don't really need cash for equipment anyway. If we sell the Hairpin and throwing stars, and figure the "share" of the fan we all get, I can pay the 140 for the fan.

In my other campaigns, we usually have one person volunteer to keep track of the treasure and tell everyone what their share is... I don't generally like to volunteer for that job, but if no one else does it, I am willing.

However, I would add this warning, I've recently decided to apply for grad school, so at least until my applications are done (Dec ish), I'm going to be seriously busy with that... although I'll need breaks, so I should be able to maintain my frequency of posting.

@Rhys I'm sorry to see you go, I would rather you stay, and have a character you like more... but then I want you to be able to GM our other game well too :)

Seems like it would have been more than that. Do we have someone that is keeping track of our loot?

Tavlor enjoys the evening along with everyone else, and has a few drinks that are bought for him, enough that his cheeks are nice and rosy, but his voice is clear and his stride is true enough.

Before heading home for the night, he approaches Ameiko one last time.

"Ameiko, you have my word I will find out everything possible about this boat and anything that might have been on it." He bows as deep as he can, which is slightly more difficult than he thought it would be.

So, with that roll (barely), unless you want to give me the -4 :(, then my relationship score would go up 2, to 12

There are also levels to the relationship, which have Experience rewards for reaching them, but I wasn't sure you wanted to use that. The move from 10 to 12, would move Ameiko and I from "Friendship" to "Fellowship" so yay :D

Whatever that means ;).

I'll add the score to my profile.

"No, I don't think there was anything else... Wait! There was a piece of jewelry, with a red stone I think, but I don't remember what it was. We can ask the others when they get back, assuming they haven't sold it yet..."

Diplomacy check for Gift, DC 10: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20

DM Wellard wrote:

If you want to do the paperwork it's fine by me. I really must get round to reading the relationship rules properly at some point.

Well, you're in charge, so you can do it how you like :). But, since it is supposedly a big part of the AP, I think it will be fun. Here's a summary:

1. Score with each NPC starts at your Charisma Modifier.
2. One time Bonus of +4 with the NPC you have your trait with.
3. Can improve your score by 1 with an NPC each time you Level.
4. Once per Level you can give a gift (for friends) or insult (for rivals) to increase your score by 1, although if you exceed the DC by 10, it can be 2 points.
5. Certain story events can cause changes, based on the GM's discression.

For Gifts/insults:
Requires a Diplomacy check with a DC of your current Relationship score (so it gets harder the better your relationship... which is a little odd, guess gifts get old... ). If you exceed the DC by 10, the gift can increase the score by 2. There is a +4 or -4 Bonus suggested at the GM's discretion based on roleplaying the gift/insult.

Romances:
There's a whole section on romances, but I doubt we're there yet :)

So, if I am understanding things correctly, my score with Ameiko before the gift, would be:
5 (CHA) + 4 (trait) +1 (for lvl 2)

The Gift should be a DC 10 diplomacy check, which I shall roll over in the gameplay thread.

"Uh, yeah, you can keep the fan," he smiles. "But i'm pretty sure the group wanted to see about any treasure that the map might lead to. We weren't sure exactly where it led, but if you know, I'm sure everyone would be willing to help find out what was there. According to the goblins, if they can be trusted, there were 'bony longshanks' at that spot. We assumed that would be some form of undead, which probably needs to be taken care of if it's so close to Sandpoint."

I've forgotten if you said how you wanted it to work, DM Wellard. Are you making rolls and keeping track of relationship scores, or are we doing it?

At the Dragon

Ameiko looks somewhat surprised by your relevation.."A ship with the name of my family on it..I..I'm not sure what to make of that there might be something in the family records over at the Mansion but Father was never the most organised of men and it would be a major undetaking to search for that sort of information. What sort of ship, was it intact, did it have anything else of use inside?"

"No, it wasn't intact. It was kind of a mess. I was only just barely able to see the name of the ship. I had thought to come straight to tell you of it, but as a group we decided to take care of the goblin threat first..." A clouded look passes briefly over Tavlor's face at the memory of that argument. I should probably apologize to them for that. Then his face brightens, "It's a good thing we did, as we discovered more. After we defeated the goblins that attacked us and captured the chief and a couple of others, we were able to learn what had happened with the ship. Although, of course, we had to discern what was truth and lies, and what was just nonsense."

Tavlor pauses, a little excited to be presenting his first real adventure to the seasoned veteran in front of him, he does not want to seem too amazed. "In any case, we learned that the goblins had found the ship, and there had been a sorceress living there, named Vorka, apparently she was a cannibal! I'm not sure I believe that bit, but in any case, the goblins killed her, and discovered the fireworks that gave them the confidence to threaten Sandpoint again. It may be presumptuous to assume they were originally on the ship, but it seems likely. Among the treasures they found there, they also found this..."

Tavlor takes the fan from a pocket and presents it to Ameiko.

"I can't be sure, of course, but it might have come from the ship as well. Do you recognize it?"

Tavlor hesitates a moment, surprised a little at his own boldness. "Ahem... well no, of course not. I wouldn't play any games with such as this. I was going to tell the whole story, but I suppose the rest of the group might fare better in that respect, so I'll get right to the point... as it were." He pauses as he takes in Ameiko's imposing stance, and tries to give her a smile as he delivers such important news. "Earlier in the day, as we were headed to find the goblin village, we found the wreck of a ship. We weren't sure how long it had been there, but it bore the name 'Kaijitsu Star.' As far as I knew, the Valdemars were the only ones with ships around here, so I was surprised to see your name on a ship, but I thought it might have something to do with your family."

Tavlor hesitates again, not sure of Ameiko's reaction.

AT THE RUSTY DRAGON

Tavlor enters the Dragon in high spirits to find Ameiko working behind the bar.The taproom falls silent as you walk in faces turning towards you. Ameiko looks up and smiles then her face adopts a worried frown.

"Where are the others " she asks concernedly "I thought 7 off you went out..don't tell me you lost them?"

Tavlor smiles broadly at the sight of Ameiko after the long day, and laughs off her concern. "No, no. I don't think they would have been mine to lose in the first place, but they have gone to the sheriff to deliver the goblin chief to him. We managed to capture him alive. It was quite an adventure, but I wanted to come straight here to tell you what we found on the way there, as I believe it may concern you."
