I'm afraid it's going to be impossible for me to get my backstory done today. I'm having a sinus infection day, which means life is annoying right now. If you can wait until tomorrow, I should be able to get Tam fleshed out. If not, no problem. I definitely respect the high bar for entry!

Tam Hardwick has never been outside the walls of Korvosa.

He was orphaned as a young halfling, when his parents were killed by a plague that swept the city. He lived on the streets briefly until he was "recruited" into Lamm's Lambs. He was a Lamb for three years and a darn good one, but eventually a savage beating by Lamm sent him fleeing on his own.

On the streets he learned to be whatever he needed to be, to disguise himself as needed and to do whatever he needed to do. And he did some things he's not proud of.

Recently he's learned some new tricks: the ability to baffle and befuddle weak minds. He uses his natural skills and odd magical talents to part the rich and well-off from their money. He currently lives in a small apartment in the Shingles, formed when two buildings leaned together and corners met. It's basically a room, with enough room for a cot and a chamber pot, but it's safe, being only accessible through a small window.

These days he's been holed up in his apartment, avoiding the tumult in the streets. Still, Korvosa is his home and he feels the need to defend it.

I'm sorry, but I never really felt as involved in the campaign as I should. It might be because Tam was made for another game and didn't quite fit the style and feel of this one. For this reason I'm going to bow out. Thanks for a fun time and I hope everyone has a great game!

See, I missed that post. I thought we were all still waiting for the others.

I thought half of us were left out on the road, just chilling while the action went on. Did I miss something?

"Gracious, she is a firecracker! Ah well, it simply makes the conquest all the sweeter..." Tam smiles and goes back to fiddling with a link of chainmail.

Still futilely hitting on the womenfolk.

"How can I think of another when your radiance is before me?" Tam smiles in a-not-altogether reassuring manner.

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

"Well madam, as interested as you are in my skin, I have other parts that are more fun to play with!" Tam's eyes sparkle as he meets malice with double entendres.

Tam shrugs as the braver members of the party head out. He turns to Catalina with a smile. "So, pretty lady, do you like men with wild animal natures?"

Ready, boss!

Tam, after seeing the others end the lions, shudders. He attempts to summon his demon ape, but the form wavers and does not fully appear. He quickly casts lesser rejuvenate eidolon to heal it

LRE: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
LRE: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
LRE: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

With three castings, the form of the Ape is healed. It fades away, translucent but intact and Tam breathes a sigh of relief. Only then does he seek to heal himself.

CLW potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
CLW potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
HP: 20/32

HP: 14/32

Thankfully Tam's newly restored size and armor save him from the bite and one claw of the lion, but one manages to get through, slicing him further open. He cries out, more angry than pained. Stepping back 5 feet, he summons a hyena directly in front of him

Hyena bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Trip attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 VS CMD

HP 22/32

As the lionesses crash into the demon ape, the ape's form wavers and disappears, leaving a very shocked halfling behind! He casts defensively, attempting to avoid the lioness' attacks.

Cast defensively: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Ricdak, I can cast mount for you if need be. It'll give you 8 hours of a light horse. For nothing!

Tam the Demon Ape crouches in the grass, moving low to the ground, toward the lions. He'll move to within charging range, about 45 feet from the lions.

Tam watches the exchange between the men, not noticing anything beyond the elephants. As the talk continues, he dismounts, concentrates and blurs as his form is enveloped by a white-furred ape with red glowing eyes and a sigil upon its brow. Where Tam the hafling once stood, the beast stands now, Tam an indistinct form inside the ape. The ape nods at Mus'ad and begins to lope with him toward the lions on foot. Tam's mount, meanwhile, has disappeared.

Shanosuke:
Okay, how does the exchange rate work? 1 rupia = 5 silver. 10 silver = 1 gold, therefore 2 rupias = 1 gold?

Also, since the dragonhide was a trade good, wouldn't I get the full amount for it?

Shanosuke:
I need a ruling on my sale of dragonhide.

DM:
Did I have any luck selling my dragonhide in town? I ask because if I got rupias from that sale, I would have purchased rations and waterskins.

Tam shrugs at the departing man. He thanks the old man and walks outside, savoring the air of semi-civilized life. On his day off, he's going to find an armorer and see about trading his dragonhide for some of these rupias everyone seems so excited by...

"So the first thing to do is find this Daiga and get him back to work? Seems easy enough." Tam smiles a wide smile, confident that the task is simple and soon to be done.

"How do they turn them?" Tam looks curiously at the scholar.

Tam stays silent as Joe takes the lead. He studies a few of the books visible in the Library, slightly in awe at all of the volumes displayed.

Ape Runt is fine, thanks! ;)

Tam smiles back, his face open and amused. "Oh, I've got a few surprises here and there, master Dwarf! I'm big where it counts," Tam winks, revealing nothing more.

"Ah, being called a little man isn't so bad, Arik. I find it simply makes the ladies more surprised when I shock them with the size of my 'manliness', eh?" Tam looks up with a mischievous grin as he polishes off the first of his meals and moves onto the second.

"Well, I never had much traffic with the gods. I mean, I figure they're out there and I'm right here and no reason for the two to meet. But I don't hate them. Seems like too much effort for too little result!" Tam tucks into his food as well, happy to have a meal that doesn't taste of skinny desert rabbit...

Tam smiles at the lamia with a charming grin and nods. "Loneliness is certainly a terrible fate. If you ever feel a bit lonely, perhaps you and I could do something about that," Tam almost purrs to the lamia in a low voice.

Hearing the boisterous newcomer, Tam turns and smiles. "Good to see you survived, Joe! They serve a wicked ale here if you're thirsty." He holds out his hand to shake.

Tam nearly falls off his bar stool, but somehow manages to hold on. "Indeed. If something pierces there, I imagine that would just about be the end of me!"

"I thought about growing a beard once. The gods didn't seem to care, but there was a comely lass who told me 'Why cover up that beautiful face?' and I took her advice. Of course, until she advised me of the fashion of piercing certain parts of the body best left unpierced. Still, she was a looker." Tam sighs and smiles at the lamia. "What brings your kind to this sort of place, miss?"

Tam shakes Ricdak's hand and frowns at the same time, "I didn't see any other survivors. Thought I was the only one. Of course I was slightly not myself at the time, so it's hard to separate what I saw.."

A slight halfling, wearing travelers clothes caked with dust and sand, his red hair wild and slightly mad looking, walks into the inn. He brushes most of the dust from his clothes and bends to see to the red hair on his feet, brushing it clear as well. He straightens up, sees the two dwarves introducing themselves and squints.

"By the gods and all the archons in Absalom! I know you lot, don't I? Wait, wait. The Caravan, right? I knew it! Tam Hardwick, master armorer at your service! I say, barkeep, I'll take a mug of anything wet and preferably cold that you have. And food! Oh gracious I'll take three of whatever the special is!" He pats his stomach, which is surprisingly flat considering his meal choice and nods to the dwarves. "So, I've just traveled an unfortunate long distance. Any news of the other caravaners?"

Tam is now all 4th leveled and is ready for rescue!

Almost ready, just have to finish a few things.

Tam HP:1d8 ⇒ 5

I'm good to go!

With the merchant trait, Tam gets 500 gp in trade goods. I'm taking it as dragonhide, since Tam is now an armor-smith. Dragonhide seems like a pretty sought after thing for armorers, plus it's light enough to be carried around without too much difficulty. Also, in this incarnation, Tam is a pretty well known halfling, so I dropped the childlike feat for the Lucky Halfling feat, and added improved initiative to give him a jump on enemies.

With that, as long as everything looks good, I think I'm ready to go.

HP for Tam: 1d8 ⇒ 1
HP for the Ape: 1d8 ⇒ 4

Excellent, that works perfectly well, I think.

I only have my original stuff, so 1900 gp plus 500 gp in trade good from the merchant trait.

This version of Tam is going to be a self-assured, amiable armor-smith who only calls upon the Demon within when he's threatened. The Demon Ape is much the same, but Tam is a lot more pro-active.

Shanosuke, do we keep our old gear in addition to the 4,000 gp, or do we start anew with the 4,000 gp budget?

Eltumal, your rolls are much better than mine. Poor Tam is going the need the Ape with his stats!

Just in case:
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 1) + 6 = 8
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 = 13

I think the only change I might have is in Tam's personality; the reluctant halfling worked well for a refugee, but as a caravan member I'm going to aim for a more confident type of personality. I think I'll still keep the demon ape, but as more of the angry aspect of Tam instead of a protector. So the ape might even get to speak!

Also, do we need to re-roll or are our current stats okay?

Bummer. I hope he's alright!

I'm game for either choice. I like Tam, but I could definitely go with a more proactive character. ;)

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

The demon ape has darkvision.

Tam/Ape simply shudders and lets loose a low growl from deep in its throat. Clearly the prospect of a night with these vampires is not one it looks forward to.

The demon ape lets out a low huffing noise, but otherwise doesn't speak to the Head Vampire.

Tam frowns and re-slings his crossbow. Still staring at the bodies of the dead zombies, he begins to blur and the Demon Ape envelops him. On all fours, he moves ahead, making small huffing noises as he goes.

Once the battle is done, Tam's beetle disappears in a puff of smoke.

The beetle continues to attack!
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Tam reloads and attacks as well!
Attack w/crossbow: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23 shooting into melee taken into account
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Confirmation of crit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Extra damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
