Have fun!

@Uthraed: No worries. Join back whenever you feel like it.

@Artair: I missed the good news! Yeah! :)

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. Best wishes to your friend and I hope the other kid gets better.

Is that the new Inspector Gadget archetype? :P

Ok, so that MW Crossbow is the one that Jaed borrowed from Roldare and then "forgot" to return. Now it is in the bag of holding in case we need it in the future.

That's Artair's crossbow, right? He is carrying the axe and crossbow from what I understood.

Good point, we don't want the bag to be pierced by the bolts. I suppose that Jaed can carry them in a quiver attached to his belt.

I am carrying a bedroll in the bag. I suppose I can also put one tent in it. Apart from that, Jaed is happy to carry whatever else fits in the magical bag but there is not much he can carry outside it without going into medium load.

@MCCL: thanks for being our master of coin :)

I have just realized that as Jaed has now a bag of holding, he can put the crossbow in it and carry it with him without being in medium load (47.5 lbs in total). It won't be immediately accessible during combat (probably I will need a full round action to equip it, right?) but it is better than not having it.

I am also going to pretend that Jaed conveniently "forgot" to return the masterwork crossbow he borrowed from Roldare if that is ok. If not, he will take his old plain crossbow. I have updated his character sheet to reflect the changes.

@MCCL: There were 504.3 gp left after all the buying and selling, right? Are we going to divide it or are we going to keep it as a fund for the future?

I didn't think of using the horn like that. Maybe we can keep it and the gem for now and sell them later if we see they are not that useful.

No objection to give the other things to Lilly and Sato.

I'm ok giving Etam some more gp to buy his spear. Right now, I only want to buy a masterwork short sword (310 gp) and 3 more daggers (6 gp) so we should have enough money for everything.

@Panegyric: Thanks for the summary! I think you made a small mistake. The half-charged CLW wand is 300 gp so we should have enough money even if we sell #3 minus the magic missiles wand (which would go to Sato).

@Finnrick: Better if it's not me or we'll spend a lot of rounds going up and down as last time :)

@DM: Thanks for the stat block. Reagrding the loot, can we pretend we sold and bought everything before leaving or will we have a chance to do that when we get to our destination?

Welcome back! I think how much we'll get depends on selling the long sword or not. It's not clear to me if Artair is going to use it in the end. I'm fine either way, but I'd also want to buy another masterwork short sword and a couple of extra daggers.

@DM: Jaed has left the crossbow at home so if my calculations are correct he should be carrying 38 lbs of gear. I will rely on the daggers if he is involved in ranged combat.

@DM: You are right about both. I replaced the Trap Spotter talent with the Combat Trick, getting the Weapon Focus (short sword) feat with it. No more auto-rolls for trap spotting so we'll go back to our door inspection routine :)

I will break it down:

The selected traits are Reactionary and Acrobat. They are in the last page of the linked character sheet.

The feats are Dodge, Improved Initiative, Two-Weapon fighting, Weapon Finesse and Weapon Focus (short sword).

The three favored class bonuses are HP.

The unchained rogue talent is Combat Trick and the unchained rogue finesse training weapon is short sword.

The background skills ranks went to Sleight of Hand x3, Appraise x2 and Linguistics (choosing elven as the bonus language).

I hope that makes things easier for you.

I totally forgot about the background skills. I have updated Jaed to include those.

Regarding the skills, Jaed is still focused in stealth and finding and disable traps. I have ranks in knowledge(local) and knowledge(dungeoneering).

@Artair: From my understanding you get 2 background skill ranks per level, so you should have 6 ranks to spend.

Jaed is using two short swords so feel free to take the long sword if you think it is useful for Artair.

I'm actually going to buy another masterwork short sword for his off hand with the money we get from the loot. It's 310 gp so I think I will have enough. And some more daggers in case we are involved in ranged combat.

Can we buy (and sell) all these things in Kassen or do we have to wait until we get somewhere else?

Welcome to the group!

MCCL and panegyric, thanks for accounting for the loot. Apart from the short sword, the invisibility potion and the potion of CLW I don't see anything else that could be useful for Jaed. I agree with Uthraed suggestion of getting a wand of CLW.

I have finished the one-sword-in-each-hand-I-will-flank-you-and-cut-you Jaed version and I have updated his sheet. This is the hit dice roll for level 3:

hit die: 1d8 ⇒ 6

@DM, when you have time, could you please generate the stats block for the new Jaed? Thanks!

Tomorrow I will update his profile here and write some IC text.

Yay! I'm ok with everyone keeping the gear that they think is going to be useful for them and selling the rest. If I recall correctly, we found a masterwork short sword outside the crypt which would come in handy to Jaed now that he is focusing in fighting with both hands. The same goes for the potion of invisibility and the potion of CLW.

Another heads up: I am going to a company retreat from Wednesday to Friday. I have no idea if/when I will be able to connect to the Internet. As panegyric, I will have Jaed updated before then so you can bot him if needed.

One last thing. Now that we have finished our first adventure, is there something that you would suggest to change or improve? Asking in general to all of you and specifically to DM. I am thinking if there is something I/we can do to make DM's life easier. Also, any constructive criticism about my contributions is welcome. :)

Hi all!

I am the player behind the rogue of the group, Jaed. I think our DM and panegyric have summarized very well our situation and needs. I just want to emphasize that some of us are relatively new to Pathfinder so I hope you are ok with our non-optimal character builds and some newbie questions and mistakes. Actually, it is not that bad, we have come a long way during this first adventure :)

dwilhelmi and rungok, those are two nice characters and narratives!

I have ditched my idea of a ranged rogue after realizing that you have to be in melee combat to flank a foe so I won't be able to sneak attack using my crossbow most of the time.

So, after a lot of reading, I will go for a two-weapon rogue. He won't be able to hit as much Etam or Artair but I plan on flanking our enemies as they focus their attacks on them and then concatenate sneak attacks. We'll see if that way Jaed can be a bit more useful in combat.

@DM: Can we change our ability scores? I was thinking about swapping my wisdom and strength scores.

My best wishes to you and your mom. As panegyric said, we'll look after Finnrick and Millsy until things get better.

Regarding Jaed, I'll keep him mostly the same the same but I'll try to focus more on ranged combat.

Just a heads up that I'm going to be on vacation for the next two weeks. I will have limited access to the Internet during next week so just bot me if I am unresponsive for too long.

I am thinking about reconverting Jaed to a sniper and make the crossbow his main weapon. I feel we have the close combat well covered with Etam and Artair. And that way it should also be easier to flank and use the sneak attack. I just don't want to lose the trapfinding habilities so I'm working on it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll think about how to make Jaed a more interesting character now that I have more experience.

This was fun and I'd like to thank you all for that! And thanks again to our DM for all the help and guidance :) I'm totally in for the next adventure.

I am fond of Jaed although sometimes I feel he is not very useful in a dungeon apart from his trap finding abilities. I'm ok with the current group composition but I am also open to recruit a new member. Specially if he/she can bring in a bit of magic.

I'll be attending a convention from tomorrow to Sunday so I'm not sure how often I will be able to post. Most probably I will be able to keep up but feel free to bot me if I'm unresponsive for too long.

@DM: Well, the country where I grew up is outside any turkey habitats so they usually have a couple of them in the zoos. Out of curiosity, I googled for turkey farms and there are a few of them. But definitely no wild turkeys :-)

By the way, thanks for the stats!

I have finished leveling up Jaed and updated his character sheet. DM, if you can send me the updated stat block I'll update that too. Also, let me know if I did anything wrong.

In summary, I have taken a rank in most of my class skills, which by the way included local knowledge. As for the rogue talent I have taken Trap spotter so let's see if I have more luck with the DM rolling those perception checks for the traps. I also hope the extra rank in perception will help.

P.S. Finnrick, I'm sure it was scaring but I couldn't help smiling when I imagined someone being attacked by a Turkey and using his phone for self-defense, sorry. That's probably due to my ignorance because I have always lived in big cities and I have never seen a wild turkey. Only the ones at the zoo :-)

I like the idea of dividing the knowledge skills. So far I have the dungeoneering one (which I expected would be more useful). I could also take a skill in local knowledge if no one has it as it would fit the rogue's profile.

I will update my skills tomorrow when I can get some time. Today it's been a busy day...

Yay! Welcome back! :-)

I join the others in hoping everything gets better soon :)

@DM: It is working now, thanks!

@Finnrick: Have fun!

I cannot access the second floor map, it tells me to ask for permission. Is this on purpose or is it just me?

Busy weekend for many people. Have fun y'all! :)

Agree. In the end we will be using this stuff the most effective way we can so we should divide it up accordingly.

My idea is to drink the invisibility potion and sneak ahead to find out what's guarding the flame.

Have fun!

Understood, that sounds reasonable.

@DM: I have read the link about grappling and I am a bit confused. The relevant part is:

"Multiple creatures can attempt to grapple one target. The creature that first initiates the grapple is the only one that makes a check, with a +2 bonus for each creature that assists in the grapple (using the Aid Another action)."

So in our case Etam initiates the grapple and makes the check. Is he the only one that, if successful, gain grappled condition? Do the others that are aiding also get grappled or is just like any other Aid Another check?

In the end I think what I am asking is: can multiple people grapple the same foe? If yes, does the foe need multiple checks to break each grapple or just one for all of them?

Thanks in advance!

Agree. Let's hope that dagger is not important to defeat whatever is guarding the flame. It's the only reason I can think of to go back for it.

@MCCL: Yep, that was my guess but it was very risky to pick it up. Maybe we can go back to that room later if we need/want the dagger. At least we know what's waiting for us.

@DM: Seems like I was wrong about being now at medium load. According to this the ability score damage does not reduce the ability score but applies a penalty to the skills and statistics that are based on that ability. So now I have a -2 penalty but as my strength score did not change my carrying capacity is not affected. So I could have risked it to pick the dagger and get to the door. But never mind, what's done it's done.

Thanks for the answers! Either way I just realized that the strength reduction also makes me go into medium load so I won't be able to reach the door unless I withdraw. Too much trouble for a dagger but, hey, at least I got the key :)

A couple of questions before risking it to pick up the dagger. First, are there any negative drawbacks to having low strength apart from the obvious negative modifiers to everything affected by the strength ability score. Something similar to having low constitution makes you more likely to die.

Second, I will provoke an attack of opportunity when I pick up the dagger (movement action). If the shadow hits me, does it interrupt the action of picking it up? Also, will I provoke a second one when I move away from the shadow?

Well, that's three questions in the end :)

One question about healing nonlethal damage. Do you have to rest to heal it or does it heal 1 hit point per hour independently of what you are doing?

Tomorrow I'm going on a trip abroad until Sunday. I don't know how often I'll be able to connect but I'll try to check the forum whenever I get an opportunity. As we are in the middle of a combat, if you are waiting for me please feel free to take my turn in my place. Just try to keep Jaed alive ;) Thanks!

Thanks, that makes more sense than the core rules. I think I'll keep rolling for broad searches as the randomness makes things more interesting. And I'll try to make emphasis in that I take more time when inspecting individual objects (like a door or a chest) so I can take 20 in that cases.

I have a question about Taking 10 and Taking 20. I expect to have a lot of trap finding and lock picking checks inside the crypt. Do I need to declare that I look for traps in each room? If so, do I have to roll the first attempt and if it fails then it is supposed that I expend more time looking for traps until I am sure there are or there aren't any traps?

Can I recover the used crossbow bolt from the orc's chest or is considered gone?

And thanks for your patience answering all the questions DM Puppet Master!

I just realized that I didn't take into account the cover in my last post (a scored a critical so not that it is going to change anything). In this case, the enemy would have had cover because I have another character in front of me, right?

Could I have taken a ready action to shoot when I have a clear line of sight and if I don't, get the shot at the end of the round?

Great, I'll keep my bedroll then. Thanks!

One more question. Is there any difference between sleeping in a tent vs sleeping in a bedroll? I know that sleeping in armor causes fatigue but is there any negative modifier for sleeping out in the open in a bedroll if it is, for example, raining or snowing?

@DM Puppet Master I don't have enough money for the potions anyway so I'll trust in the healing abilities of my fellow companions :)

By the way, do we have to add the contents of the backpack to our character sheet? If that's the case, I suppose they'll count towards the weight limit so I will have to rearrange my possessions and leave a couple of things in town. Or maybe I could sell the things I don't need?

@Finnrick That's the "Cure Light Wounds" spell, right?

Is there a place where we can buy healing potions? Or do they have to be made by a PC?
