I've only read part of KnightErrantJR's compilation (I'll finish it when I get more time) but he may be onto something pretty good with Taladas. What follows isn’t well organized as I’m still in the very early stages of my own conversion – I was actually logging on to find out if others had begun a conversion as well.
I had actually considered trying to fit in the AoW into Ansalon during the Age of Despair, using the absence of some of the gods to allow building the heretical basis for the Ebon Triad: Hextor-Sargonnas, Erythnul-Morgion, Vecna-Hiddukel; seemed to fit between the God of Secrets & the God of Lies & Deals or possibly abandoning some of the gods altogether and using the renegade wizards to found some faiths. This age has the added bonus of not needing to translate some of the Greyhawk gods into Dragonlance gods but it does serious cramp the ability of parties to heal. It also would put a twist for the lack of good clerics meaning the Undead are going to be harder to deal with. My intention was to use the Wounds/Vital points instead of normal Hit Points to allow the characters some easier time to recover without clerics. In the case of the Age of Mortals, which I admittedly know less of, you could use Hiddukel for Vecna (or a renegade wizard for Vecna's clerics) and possibly rewrite their goal in bring about the Overgod to resurrecting Takhisis. Whether they can succeed or not isn't really important, just the threat might be a good motivator.
The two creature problems with my setting the AoW in the Age of Despair is the disappearance of the Dragons and the Wind Dukes. Dragotha isn't as big of a problem since its one creature and a dracolich doesn't need to be the same as the other dragons for the purposes of their disappearance, though it may have gone into hibernation long before the other dragons disappeared. The other dragons though may be solved by a fix for the LoLR & KotR from Hastur (http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/dungeon/ageOfWorms/fixingTheKingsOfTh eRift) and advancing some other creatures like a wyvern for Ilthane (Lashonna could be something else entirely). In the Age of Mortals this would be a non-issue. The Wind Dukes are different. With what I think was retconning of the Age of Starbirth and the Chaos god being forced out of Krynn’s reality by the other Gods, the Wind Dukes can become allies of the Gods against Chaos and the Cataclysm unearthed some of the less important tombs (Icosiols buried deep enough to be almost untouched). This allows an ‘in’ for the Rod of Seven Parts which might be surfacing now in preparation of the Chaos War.
Kyuss I looked at as a cleric of Chemosh, using the same hubris model as both the Kingpriest’s and Raistlin/Fistandantilus’ bid for godhood I imagine that more mortals have attempted such things before and in the case of Kyuss, was not completely successful. When I was reading about his apotheosis I got the impression that the focal monolith trapped the souls of the faithful of Kyuss into the monolith for his use – just the same he was able to be a god he had too much faith in himself and was also drawn into the monolith and trapped. (After reading KEjr’s conversion, I also like the idea of Chemosh cursing his cleric into the stone for the hubris, he got what he wanted but the cost didn’t allow him to enjoy it.)
Setting & Sites
Estwilde has some good places for Diamond Lake, I'm looking at south of Throtle near the Dargaard Mtns and directly transporting the city rather then trying to find one there and converting too much (just the people). That means that the Marshes can be the 18 miles east and 18 miles north on the edge of the Midland, putting the lair due east into the marshes. The Free City for my campaign becomes Lemish (trying to restore some of the Ergothian power by setting it around c130 AC) though Solanthus *might* work. Wayreth Tower so far seems to be a good Magepoint based on distance and nature. From there I was considering whether to use Nordmaar's Sahket jungles or set the Spire of Long Shadows on a remote island north of Nordmaar in order for it's presence to not have such a big impact on Ansalon's timeline. The new location of Alhaster or it's substitute is something I haven't yet been able to work out but Tilagos struck me as easily set in the Maelstrom of the Blood Sea as a singular uncharted out cropping of rock rising in the storm of the Blood Sea, but if you're in the Age of Mortals it may require a new island like the Spire placed off to the Northwest where you could put in a hurricane without destroying weather patterns for the mainland. Giant's Hall in the Khalkist (what becomes Titan's Hall in Age of Mortals) looked like a good place for Kongen-Thulnir by changing it's setting from "in a canyon" to "on a cliff face" and allowing the maps to still be used. Finally, the Wormcrawl Fissure, I'm looking into using the Pit of Nemith-Otham in the Khalkists or at least a part of it. Its connection with the Dragon Stones seemed to me a good reason for an undead dragon to hide away there.
That's about as far as I've gotten with trying a conversion. Any advice or corroboration would be welcome!
