When you say core rules only do you mean core rulebook only or just the core line?

Core rule book only.

Thanks much!

I don't think I'll ever get the chance to play the PrC much since we only play till 7th, and that will be the level I am able to take it. Otherwise, that's an interesting set of options. I'm a little curious about how to balance combat feats, (Like Martial Weapons) and healing feats though.

I'm getting in to a new group and am interested in playing a Battle Cleric.
Details are:
20 point buy.
Core rules only.
I'll be main healer.
Four players.
Game goes from 1st - 7th level.

I'm considering either Dwarf or Half-Orc, and would like to wield either a two handed hammer or axe. Heavy armor would be preferred.

My worry is that if I lean to heavily on the thematics of my build, I'll end up being lousy at melee AND healing.

Any advice?

So awesome. Thank you so much. There really should be a sticky here with those pertinent links provided.
=)

I'm surprised that there isn't a sticky'd general info/FAQ thread here.
I've been out of the loop on development since the kickstarter announcement and now I'm back to catch up, and the amount of information is staggering.
Is there a wiki being built some place? A thread somewhere? Or should a new or returning fan just start trudging though several months of active and archived threads?
=(
Thanks for any information you guys can provide.

Thanks!
I would never have found that in a million years!

Can anyone tell me the source of this piece?

Sorry I can't post the actual image. I guess BBcode is disallowed?

Looking at D20Pro, I'm really put off by how expensive a GM+5 party members is going to be.
Unless it's light years ahead of Ttop and Maptool, then it's far too expensive to be a viable option.

Great! Thanks all!

What is the level of difficulty of Maptools for an average non-technical gamer?
I'm very savvy with all of this, but some of my players are not.
Will I need to worry about dice macros/set up and what not for those guys?

My 3yr old D&D group has been split up by career moves and various other details, but we'd like to continue the campaign virtually with some type of digital game table and vent voice server.
Last weekend we tried OSU-GT, but I apparently asked it to do too much, and it died, taking my hard work with it.
What I'd like, is some suggestions for other products, free is best obviously, but for pay (with a great feature set) is also welcome.
GT was just so incredibly frustrating, I'm interested in just about anything else.
Thanks all!

Picked up Pallid Plague to bridge Crown and Revenge.
Should be able to squeeze a level out of that.
However, I still feel like there should be one more to polish off 5th
before hitting Revenge.
IS The Beggars Pearl any good?
Also, what level is it? The page for it says 1-7 and I'm a bit confused on what that means.

Ah! Good idea. I'll suggest that to her.
So, what's the likelihood that D1 advances the players 3 levels in one module?
Low I say, but I can't read it, I'm playing in it!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

My wife is about to start running D0 Hollow's Last Hope with the intention of running everything in Darkmoon as a series.

We have two questions.

Based on my statement above, Is the following order correct?
D0 Hollow's Last Hope
D1 Lair of the Kobold King
D1.5 Revenge of the Kobold King
D4 Hungry are the Dead
and then, though it's not in the series,
E1 Carnival of Tears
and then maybe branch out to
LB2Treasure of Chimera Cove.

Does that make sense? Do you have any input on more adventures in between any of these?

Which leads me to my second question.

D1 and D1.5 are 2nd level and 5th level respectively. Does D1 actually lead the characters to 5th level by it's end? If not, what would you suggest for a intermediate step between D1 and D1.5?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm honestly completely shocked that Paizo would attempt this.
Why? I'll keep it short and sweet.

1.) Several other, more recognizable, established I.P.s, backed by very large video game developers, have failed miserably trying to release MMOs. (See Conan, Star Wars Galaxies, Warhammer Online, Etc) Though I feel Pathfinder to be an above average brand, I highly doubt it has the number of fans that Warhammer, Conan, or god forbid Star Wars brands have.

2.) The average video game budget is $23 Mil. That's the average. MMO budget's far exceed this. WOW had a budget of 40 Mil back in 2004. It is reported that Star Wars will have a budget of $100 Mil. when it releases. Maybe I'm way off here, but does a small pen and paper company like Piazo really have that kind of capital draw to engage even the low end of that spectrum?

3.) The rate of washout in the MMO market is astounding. Very few franchises manage to hold on to their subscribers for long enough to establish the longevity that one would want from such a large investment. What happens when, like has been mentioned above, the Next Big Thing comes out and everyone who is only casually interested in the I.P. bails out?

Better to invest in the development of a good Single Player, or even better, a great internet served Multiplayer (Like NWN for example). Better yet. Invest in a highly functional, and robust online game table where people can play the table top virtually with friends from around the world.

The current CR is 10, but I need to tone it down quite a bit if the PCs are to survive the fight.

Hello all, just dropping by to ask for some help on balancing an encounter I am building.

Without going in to detail on the story (I’ll relate if you ask) the party is about to take on
a Spawn of Yog-Sothoth that is being summoned by a high priest and his Cult of Cuthulu.
The encounter is pulled from the Pathfinder module Carrion Hill I ran for them, but heavily modified to accommodate our storyline and power level.

Encounter details.

1 “Weakened” Spawn of Yog-Sothoth. Currently CR10 (Needs to be adjusted. Stats below)

1 Cleric level 7-9? High priest finishing up an incantation (3.5 rule) that will bring the Spawn to full power.

10 Commoner level 1 cultists assisting in the ritual. Each has a small vial, akin to a mini-phylactery, that guards their soul against being consumed by the Spawn while they complete the incantation.

5 Player characters all level 6, Cleric, Paladin, Bard, Ranger, Wizard, all carrying magic weapons of at least +1 and various other lower level magic items, like armor, potions, a scroll or two. All within the wealth by level 6 category for medium progression. They have a few extra feats among them, but nothing too over the top and we use a home brewed hero point system that almost mirrors the hero point system in the Pathfinder APG.

The Encounter
When the PCs show up in the town square they find the incantation is ending. The spawn has begun to flail out with it’s tentacles and drain the cultists of their souls by grappling them and crushing their mini-phylacteries. Once a round, with a successful grapple and application of strength damage the phylactery breaks and the soul is consumed giving the Spawn 10 additional HP. The cultists are insane and suicidal and will not run. If the cultists are killed by a PC, their phylacteries will hold their soul, but if the phylactery is broken, this once again will feed the Spawn. When all ten cultists are consumed, the Spawn breaks free under the command of the priest.

The Goal
The PCs need to kill the Spawn to have a chance to survive and return home from this nightmare dimension.
To do that they need to deal with the cultists and high priest, who will try and stop them, and kill the Spawn.
They can’t ignore cultists because the spawn can feed off them if they are alive and within reach, the cultists, though low in power, can still attack the PCs Cultists can also shatter their own phylactery in a fit of madness and feed the Spawn.

So with that in mind, how would you adjust the Spawn CR while maintaining his epic Cthulu feel, and what level should I make the high priest?

Over all, I’d really like this to be doable for the PCs but only barely.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Here is the original post since this seems to be sticking around.

For those of you who have the module Carrion Hill.
Pathfinder Module: Carrion Hill

I'm running the final encounter but have a few caveats I need to address.
First, the party is 6th lvl not 5th, there are five of them though I think the module was definitely tuned for four. I managed to tweak the other encounters enough to properly challenge them and so far we have all been happy.
What is about to happen is, I'm reworking the final encounter to include some additional story arc details and I'm worried that the Spawn might kill the party if I don't balance it right.

My question is, what do you think the adjusted CR is for the Spawn after it has been weakened by "-6 levels" as is stated in the module.

With the current CR of 10, it seems overly simplistic to assume the weakened CR to be 4.

What do you guys think?

Thanks for your input.

Good call Jam. Done, and sorry about that.
=O

Kolo, was a group of 6 players at 5th lvl?

Two years ago when I started running this game, it was very house rules heavy D&D 3.5
We switched to PF after about 8 months.
Running full PF core with PF advanced players guide.
Run once a month.
Five players.

That is exactly what we are striving for Lich.
Thanks for noticing!

Ah! Thank you so much! I was still looking at the playtest.
Worst part is, I HAVE the book, but it's at home, and I'm at work.
Silly me.
Thanks again!

I'm rolling up a fresh 3rd lvl Oracle of the Battle Mystery.

I noticed that at 3rd lvl I get a bonus Mystery spell "enlarge person"
which is a second level spell.
I also noticed that all of the Mystery spells are 2nd level or above.

At 3rd level, an Oracle can only know 5 Orisons, 3 first level spells, and can not know second level spells at all.
In addition, they cannot cast second level spells at all.

So my question is, why are we given this bonus spell if we are too low level to know it or cast it?

Or in the other case, if the Oracle in question has a bonus second level spell from a high Charisma, can they in fact cast the spell?

Thanks!

Depressing, but makes sense.
I guess I'll stick to PDFs.

I was about to order the Carrion Hill Print edition and then I started to wonder, do we get a free PDF download with print module orders?
Seems like a natural fit.
I've never ordered a module as a print before. Usually only PDF.
