Playing a Magus myself, Elf, currently at 7th Level. Base build, no Archtype. So far, I have LOVED the class. There is a very easy way around AOO's if you have sufficient levels to cast it, and that is Warding Weapon. Between that and Ablative Barrier, my character can do some serious damage. Just yesterday I cut down 2 ogres in 2 rounds with Spellstrike and Shocking Grasp in the Kingmaker adventure path. ![]()
Take it from someone who has studdied Latin, 'Magus' is Latinate for a wizard, sorcerer or a wize or learned man, as in the 'Three Magi' of the Christmas story. 'Magi' is the proper plural, as previously stated by Hitdice and others. If you want to on put a feminine spin on it, it would be Maga or Magina, plural Magae or Maginae. ![]()
I just posted a message in another thread about the class. I am at present playing a 7th level Elven Magus with no archetype, just the standard build. So far, I have LOVED the class. They have astounding versitility, being able to hurl spells and still wear armor. I love the Spellstrike ability, too. As posted a while ago, been combining the Magus ability to enchant my sword with electricity, then adding in a Spellstrike with Shocking grasp. In my character's case, that adds up to 1d8+5 plus 6d6 damage in 1 attack. No too shabby, if you ask me. Can't wait to get access to Dimension Door. Combine that with Greater Invisibility, and you have something not very pleasant in store for your opponants. Add in a series of feats that allow you to use Dimension Door as a charge and...hehehehe! ![]()
I happen to LOVE the Magus class. The versitility the class allows is amazing. To paraphrase what 1 commenter here said, a Magus can stand toe with a fighter and a wizard and have a very good chance to win. My primary character at present is an Elven Magus of 7th level. I have a question, though. I have been doing something that my best friend/GM questioned yesterday in a session. (Playing through the KingMaker path, which I very much like.) I have been using the Magus ability to charge my sword with electricity, which boosts damage. It lasts for a minute. I have, after the first attack with it, used the Spellstrike ability with Shocking Grasp, which is also electricity, so I get damage from my sword, (d8+5 in my case) plus from the electricity of my ability (1d6) plus from the spell (5d6). Pretty respectable, I think. Is this legal by game rules, or have I been unintentionally cheating? ![]()
I’m a bit of an amateur writer, and I’ve written a modern fantasy story about a pair of boys who were friends through first grade, but starting in their second year, one bullied the other till until they were juniors in high school. The problem was that the one being bullied was a wizard. (Not like an RPG wizard, the magic works differently) The bullied wizard came up with a nasty curse and slapped it on his tormentor. I thought it was rather clever, if I do say so myself: “I curse thee, NAME!
I withheld the actual name I gave the character, but the effect is still there. |
