Shintaro pats his big belly and winks. "How dare you!"
"This seems to be remnants of tribes held together by this new prophet. We may well be the first to encounter them. Let us be careful."

Shintaro blinks a few times at the hobgoblin, and then simply turns back to the paladins. He was working with criminals, after all.
"Creatures? They're sapient beings! They have done us no harm! If you only have racism to say, stay silent!" Shintaro glares at the dwarf and the hobgoblin.
"To be fair, their prophecy seems to be a vague 'follow me and things will get better,' not that that's automatically invalid!"
Shintaro ignores the dwarf and looks to the gaijin paladins. "Hm! They were apparently nearly slaughtered by humans or the like, but found a new leader, religious type. They now see our arrival as fortuitous, further proof of the blessings!"
Translation: "We bear various offerings! We have much food to share, of various types! Though I am from a different land I have found it more than satisfactory, and from the size of my belly you know you can trust me! We also offer to share our alcohol, as we can magically make more! It again may not be the same as you know, but I assure you it gets you drunk! We also offer a magical bead that can create a campfire with only words, a source of fire that will never run out, again and again! In return we wish to hear stories of how you came to be here! Amaze us with your glory!"
"No matter their beliefs, most folk want to be listened to! We should ask about them in addition to whatever else we want to know!"

Goblin:
"One moment while I translate!" "They ask what we bring for them!" Shintaro says to the paladins.
Shintaro bows smartly, hands folded plainly in front of him.
Translated from Goblin: "Hail! Goblin-folk, Clever and Brave! Long may you defeat ugly dogs, and bright may your fires be! I am Shintaro! I am here to translate for these men! We do not wish for combat, only to learn!"
"Do not underestimate my charm! Hheh. As a constable I have learned all races, like all individuals, are rarely all good or bad! For instance, I have never met a goblin who rapes! Pre-judgement leads to sloppy mistakes!"
"Goblins are as individual as any other race! I will use every resource to help!"
"Pardon! I speak the Goblin tongue! They do not keep themselves to Avistan!" Almost every word is a bark. He let the religious talk pass through his ears. In theory, he worshipped Irori, but the dietary restrictions were intolerable.
Koike listens to all, nodding his head as he takes in information. The cause was just enough, and his skills wouldn't go to waste. Also, the food was already much better, though he longed for a proper noodle.
Shintaro gets his sword back along with some western style armor and a few odds and ends. He loudly slurps his food in appreciation, but stays otherwise quiet, not sure where a former lawman fit in with these other reprobates.
Shintaro has linguistics and could be the translator if you'd prefer. He doesn't really need Minkai AND Tian.

The girthful man from Minkai waits silently for his Mark.
Shintaro points to his heart. "To not volunteer would be a waste of my skills. Full plate will do. I've heard mixed reviews. My sword was confiscated by the prison. Could that be retrieved?"
A bulky Minkai man with a messy topknot stands immediately. "I volunteer!"
Shintaro has linguistics just so he could speak common! But he could help. Though I just realized I messed up his skill totals.
Does our group have a translator? We've got a tanky cavalier, a druid, a bloodrager, and a sneaky ranger?
I misunderstood, then. Masterwork Katana would be perfectly fine, however he gets it. Actually might be funny if it was kind of a shitty old thing before the masterwork spell. Doubt there's any eastern armor around, and I the player don't care. Might have Shintaro grumble a bit about it, just as some character work.
Shintaro is pretty much done. As for equipment, he'd love some heavy armor and if he could get his ancestral +1 Katana back, that would be awesome. Maybe a sap too!
Basic idea is a constable from Minkai whose favorite lover was murdered by a foreigner and then who went rogue for vengeance. May have gotten it or only thought he did, if that helps the GM/story.
