Female Faerie Dragon Familiar 8
"Pff, how uncivilized." Shendra touts from her high perch on Elmar's shoulder, turning her nose up at the snarling dogs, knowing full well they can't retaliate due to the height and the obstacle of Elmar in the way.
Once at the Palace of the Birdsong, Shendra happily starts working on a sweet that she swoops up from the tray of food. As the others begin recounting the story Elmar stays uncharacteristically quiet, even during the talks about magic, prompting Shendra to turn and look at him with a frown of concern as she nibbles away. After an obvious pause she chimes in. "And he was using memory erasing magic, even hit Elm with some of it!" She gives an annoyed flick of her tail at Elmar being targeted. "Normally it's short term and used to unravel the magical connections made during study, nasty little trick! But we have a theory that long term exposure could possibly lead to what the maybe maybe not prince is going through. Maybe." She shrugs, eyeballing another sweet. "Certainly possible, but would take time, much more time. Or maybe one of those old wizards that knows everything and likes to sit around reading all day, they take forever but tend to know things."

Shendra cocks her head and puffs out a little ring of purple smoke. I've never met a dog with the personality of a cat before. I wonder if that's what you truly are and this is just YOUR mask? Shendra wonders mentally aloud.

Once it becomes clear that violence is not imminent, Shendra pokes her colorful head out of Elmar's pack. Xan! That's a good name, and a good mask. Some people don't like when you can't see their face. But your face is a bird, so that tells them something too! Certainly tells ME something anyways. She projects outwards, not really making it clear what exactly it was she meant.

Shendra lands with a small shower of glitter on the roof. I would not leave Elmar if he fell, that's the most surrender you'll get out of him. She projects.

Elmar nods to Rose's suggestion, and Shendra's moves over to Rose, hovering near her ear. After a heavy pause Elmar glances over and exhales in amusement through his nose. Shendra flits back and forth, causing a buzzing in Rose's ear. Elmar reaches into his pack and raises up a few pieces of dried fruit, which Shendra darts over and snatches. As she flies up into the sky there's a brief flick of colorful light before she vanishes entirely to scout to the air. Elmar shakes his head with a small smile. "She's food motivated. Fruit, nuts. High end vegetables. Pastries will get you a lot of good will." He suggests.

GM Catullus wrote: "The Horse, that's my sister." "But we didn't even see a horse, I'm pretty sure that was an elephant outside." Shendra helpfully corrects.

Shendra, in a flick of light, vanishes from view, and flies up high to get a faerie-dragon-eye's view of the building, trying to find higher entry points.

Shendra shrieks in amusement as Baron Barksley floats into the air, leaping from Elmar's shoulder and darting around him. "A flying dog, a flying dog! It's not quite a flying pig, but some may disagree with how he eats!" She shrieks again at her own joke as she playfully darts in and out of his reach.

Shendra cocks her head in surprise, and flaps a reflection of colors across the room and gives a decidedly pouty face towards Marius. But it quickly turns to one of interest. Oh I can fly over the city and tell everybody! She offers. The thought seems a little absurd on the face of it...then the consideration of how fast the party has seen her fly as well as the telepathic communication...she would actually be quite the broadcaster.

Shendra's musical voice fills the heads of the party once more. Elm says there is a trap, the rug at the bottom of the stairs. Probably-ewww, really, wasps?! The mental disgust is easy to pick up on from Shendra.
In response, Elmar casts detect magic on the rug to see if the trap is magical in nature.

Shendra snakes her head around to the dog, blinking with scaly brows raised. There's a brief pause and Elmar's face twitches with a shadow of amusement. I think you are the best beast in the group, and I am the best dragon in the group. How fortunate of us to have two of the best working together! She gives a sort of chipper noise and blows a multicolored smoke ring.

Whatever Elmar was going to say next would forever remain a mystery, as a squeaking roar pierces from the doorway. A sparkling flash of colors darts inside, swirls around Elmar's head, then flashes out a vibrant set of colorful wings perhaps a full three feet wide at best, and gives an impressively loud roar for how high-pitched the sound is coming from such a tiny creature. As it hovers in place, what appears to be some kind of miniature dragon/butterfly hybrid musters the fiercest stance it can, accomplishing more of an endearing cuteness rather than striking any fear. All the same it sprays out a flash of a breath weapon that could only be described as a large puff of rainbow smoke, and a voice rings out from both the creature as well as painfully loud inside everyone's heads, sounding similar to the voice they heard upon entering the room. "Not again, no one shall ever separate me from my Elm ever aga-!"
The voice cuts off suddenly, and Elmar is waving away the colorful smoke with a conflicting series of emotions on his face; amusement, embarrassment, and pain. The creature half-turns to Elmar as he stares directly at it - her, decidedly a her - and there is a full eight seconds of silence, accompanied by tiny movements of their heads and eyes. Then, the little creature tucks her wings and with an abashed dip of her head, comes to rest on Elmar's shoulder. The song-like voice enters your minds again. I deeply apologize...I feared I would never see my Elm alive again. But he says you are his saviors. I hope you can forgive me and that I did not strike fear too deeply into your hearts.

A soft presence enters each of your minds, like the tinkling of windchimes. A flowing feminine voice rings out in your head, words laced with alarm and concern.
"The half elf is a captive, use cold iron or holy weapons to slay the pairakas! They carry diseases, are resistant to magic, and immune to fire! Please help him!"
