Shaoshu is at 2/12hp from those two hits. Holding the oversized wound from the creature's claws and nurturing his bruised thigh, Shaoshu hops backwards a bit (5ft) and slashes out at the lizard-man again, hoping he can ward it off before it gets another chance to attack him. Juggling one of his knives from hand to hand, Shaoshu moves into the room and steps up to the closest lizardfolk on his left. "I am sorry, lizard-man. But you stand between us and our friend." Reverentially, he works to sink his blade between his enemy's scales quickly before the creature can retaliate. Mwk Dagger: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Round 1, Init 12 Shaoshu quickly replaces his thrown dagger with another, stepping forward a few feet and throwing it at the spider again. Hmm, Shaoshu's sheet was messed up. Fixed it. Shaoshu rushes up, hoping to sink his knife into the dog before the dog sinks its teeth into him or his friends. Dagger (charging): 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 2 = 23 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Front-middle is fine for Shaoshu, but he'll go anywhere he is told without objecting. Shaoshu points at the dogs. "Bosses! There were many such dogs like that that fought over scraps with Shaoshu in the alleys of Tian-Xa. They do not look friend." Drawing his daggers, Shaoshu takes a few steps forward, at first mistakenly thinging he is going to spar them for discarded food, but then realizing they are actually just an obstacle between his allies and the tower.
I'm going to swap from the witch as I had an in-person request to bring that particular concept to an in-person gameday happening later in May. :) I have Shaoshu, whom I haven't played since a PbP in June 2014 I'll grab for this romp. On another note, I've never played nor run Fallen Fortress, so it's all new to me. Shaoshu sat, waiting anxiously for his first meeting with "Drengle Dreng", known as a "venture captain" of the "Society" he was so interested in joining. He looked about the tavern and was impressed by its splendor and luxury. "Nice place." Shaoshu looked as if he hailed from Tian-Xa in the distant east. He also looked like he needed a bath, his face was still smeared with dirt and his threadbare garments suggested a level of poverty unusual for an adventurer. The only thing of real value on his person was a brace of several daggers he wore, each one with a hilt resembling an animal head - a rat, an ox, a tiger and a rabbit. Despite their craftsmanship, these were dirtied as well, showing signs of frequent and lengthy use to accompany their obvious neglect. A closer look revealed that the man wasn't entirely Tien. His eyes were dark, lacking a definable sclera. His ears were pink and far too rounded, almost rat-like. "When's Big Boss getting here?"
Shaoshu stands over the fallen form of the minotaur, leaning over and checking it for signs of vitals so that it doesn't suddenly spring back to life and start chopping at people. Nodding, he closes the beast's eyes and listens with curiosity as Grimbli tells his tale and the Little Boss makes promises of membership with this new Society.
Shaoshu attempts to carefully cross the log. Acrobatics DC7: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16 After crossing, he pauses for a moment, sucking in his breath at the immense minotaur that is swinging an axe that could surely fell any man it connected with. "Blessed Old Woman, protect me against this beast..." Shaoshu will then spend a standard action activating his Darkness Blessing, giving him Enshrouding Darkness, which grants him concealment against any creatures that do not possess the ability to see in supernatural darkness.
@Hawkeye: I'm now sure how you want to handle the dense foilage and difficult terrain on a sprint action to move through it, so I'll let you place Shaoshu after his action completes. If only the "DT" squares count, I think he can at least get to the north side of the log this round (with 90ft covered). Shaoshu, seeing that "Little Boss" is in imminent danger from the minotaur, something he foresaw earlier as he hesitates when she engaged it, swallows hard and summons his courage. He looks to Dagnobar, who still stands at his shoulder and nods. "We must save Little Boss! And quick!" Rushing forward, he makes his way to the fallen log and hopes he can get to her in time. Sprint action if possible, closing as much distance as he can. Speed is 30ft.
Feel free to simply state you're using your wand charges for healing yourselves if you wish Shaoshu to use them. Shaoshu steps forward, retrieving his thrown dagger, and gives the skull of one of the skeletons a good kick to ensure it's once again really dead. As Dagnobar discovers the passage, he nods. "Little boss would be happy about this discovery. We should let her know, and explore it as well."
Shaoshu frowns at the congestion caused in the passage by the lone skeleton clawing at Dagnobar, tentatively holding both daggers at the ready. He considers what he knows about skeletons. "Hmmm..." Knowledge Religion (skeletons): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 The Tien youth then realizes his knows little about them, and decides his best option would be to hurl a dagger through the melee despite the improbability it will strike its target. Dagger, thrown (soft cover -4; melee -4): 1d20 + 5 - 8 ⇒ (8) + 5 - 8 = 5 for 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 Cursing in Tien, he draws another dagger and watches for an opening.
Shaoshu bows severely times, reverently to the gillman and takes a few steps away before looking to the others and the inscriptions. "Little Boss would want junior Pathfinders to study acts of reverence and blessings... Shaoshu knows little about crafting nor farming." Digging in his pockets, he produces a stick of charcoal, some old cheese covered in lint, and a small bag. "Shaoshu brings no seeds to plant nor materials to work -- is woefully unprepared for rituals..."
Shaoshu bows his head in reverence to the gillman, and adds his thoughts to Insidion's. "Please, noble gillman. Our boss has insisted on detailed reports of these caves. If we are successful, our people will likely not want to tread any further into your sacred site." The young Tien boy gestures to the carvings and murals in the entrance. "Do you know the meaning or purpose of these inscriptions?"
Not so much a lizardman, but a gillman. Think just a normal human male with some gills on his neck. :) Shaoshu approaches respectively and reverently, seeing the pool as some sort of shrine to a deity. Knowing well that deities can be wrathful and squash men like Shaoshu himself might squash one of the centipedes, he keeps his head bowed low and his daggers stowed. As Insidion initiates contact with the gillman, Shaoshu makes an obvious effort to keep both of his hands raised, palms forward in what he hopes in a universal sign of peace.
Once inside the cave, Shaoshu pulls the backpack open and begins to hand items to the line of Pathfinders gathered around him. Plucking out the wand of healing, he begins to point it at his various injured companions. Cure Light (Zac): 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
That brings the wand down to 6 charges. Feel free to grab items you can use. Front-liners should grab the potions. Stopping at the edge of the pit, the Tien youth looks to the others for one of the stronger ones to volunteer to climb down and inspect the bundle.
Shaoshu takes a step, then hesitates. He takes a few steps forward and picks up the little woman's backpack and slings it over his shoulder as he watches the minotaur and her engage. He continues to linger at the cave entrance until they are both out of sight before turning to join the others. Once inside the cave, he peers into the bag.
Shaoshu is after the lone wolf remaining, but I'll post his action ahead of Hawkeye just so we don't slow down. It will, of course, resolve after the wolf. Assuming the wolf continues to attack Zac or generally stays in a spot that's a single move action away. Shaoshu cautiously circles around behind the wolf, seeking to plunge his dagger into its side. Dagger: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17 for 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Shaoshu frowns slightly as Janira runs down a list of additional "recommended" purchases. Discretely, he eases the strings of his coin purse and counts the thirteen coins that remain within. What would have been a fortune to him just a few short years ago when he was in Goka now provides little by way of purchasing power for the alchemical items the halfling suggests. He simply shakes his head. "Shaoshu would like to be better prepared, but lacks the coins to do so. That is why Shaoshu must complete his Confirmation and become a Pathfinder - so he can buy such things." In case he was not fully understood he decides to add a metaphor. "Chicken and egg problem." Standing, he checks to ensure all his daggers are secure on his body before rushing ahead and opening the door for Janira. "Okay, big bo-- err, little boss? Shaoshu is ready."
No appropriate Knowledge checks here either, sadly. Shaoshu nods as the halfling provides instructions on the details of their "Confirmation". The Tien knife-man repeated his understanding of the mission at hand, since he knew bosses always liked to be certain their instructions were properly communicated. "Sounds easy. Protect you, Janira, as we go to these caves. See what gill-people do there. Stab whatever tries to stop us." Pausing for a moment, he considers his last thoughts. "What might try to stop us?"
Through narrowed eyes, Shaoshu waits anxiously for his first meeting with the so-called "venture captains" of the Society. Just two weeks ago, he had been invited by Aaqir al'Hakam to attend a wake of the merchant prince's mentor and things had gotten interesting. He had proven himself worthy both in a fight and under pressure. At the trade prince's insistence, he had made the journey over the Inner Sea and now found himself among a number of eager recruits. Shaoshu looked as if he hailed from Tian-Xa in the distant east. His ears were pink and far too rounded. "When's the Big Boss getting here?"
