Sigh... this was a fun game. I'll have to remember that fire elemental sorcerer/alchemist combo in the future. :P

With the recent destructive weather that spun through the midwest, its possible our DM is out of commission for the time being.

At the Quartermaster:

In a fairly irritated voice, Shalani counts off what she's looking for on her fingers.

"Black adder venom, or any similar strong poison ingredients.
Salis Sulfuris, Salis Ignatis, Root of Dengrol, oh, and Vitriol if you have it. Also, I'm nearly out of general acid, and alkaline salts."

Shalani busies herself trying to find someone who sells alchemical equipment or materials.

Dragox wrote:

By my figuring, I had time to cast one raising and one restoration this time. That should leave her down 2 levels, if I am right. Once the DM says a week has passed, I will hit her with another restoration.

Dragox sighs sadly as he realizes he should probably be the one to sell the equipment. This would have been something Adele would have been better at, he thinks. "Anyone want to head to the trading post with me?"

I thought we had taken up the elves on their offer to help. I'm not sure if they had anything better than restoration to help with the negative level situation. Sigh. This is why I asked for clarification back when we were with the elves. It would have been helpful to know.

Shalani dismounts, though she is a little irritated by the turn of events.

"I don't suppose you have a Priest of Irori available!"

1d20 ⇒ 2
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

I'm ready too. But I'm about to head in to work, until at least 2 AM tomorrow morning. (Central Time)

The businessman had contacts in Brindol, though. So we might find someone at Brindol who will still accept it. We're not sure where the man kept his wealth.

I'll also take a potion of cure moderate wounds. I think I would want Narses to have the deed and the map to Vraath Keep, since he left to go help the Forest Giants. He could use Vraath Keep as a base of operations.

After looking through the supplies available at the Elven community, Shalani looks up in dismay.

"They don't really have what I'm looking for here. I vote for a trip to Brindol. We can inform the provincial leaders of our successes so far, sell some of the vast amount of equipment we've been lugging around, and purchase needed supplies and gear. I also would like to speak to a Priest of Irori, and I hope that one might be available there."

She turns towards the newcomers.

"Before we completely rid ourselves of such equipment, if you truly wish to join us on our dangerous journeys, I would allow you to take what you need from our unused equipment. Dragox must agree of course, and Tahllana, as well, I imagine."

Before we go too far, I'd like to craft some more alchemical equipment or poisons. Maybe a potion or two if people are into that sort of thing, provided we have the money (or the materials) available. Maybe 200 gp worth of alchemical materials. I can do it on the move, but I prefer a little stability.

With the giant owls at our disposal, would a trip to Brindol be too difficult?

"A moment, Dragox, please. At least a day or two of rest and further work. I can craft some more alchemist's fire and other supplies, provided the ingredients are available."

1d20 ⇒ 17

Shalani stills as a familiar power within her rises. She closes her eyes, quietly muttering the mantras of Irori.

Shalani has few words for Narses before he departs. She does not know what she can give him so that he can remember her by. But there is a dark look in his eyes that says he will remember her well in any event.

She sighs and turns to Dragox. "It is strange how much my life has changed lately. It feels almost like my old desert life, where every day was a fight for survival. I had thought those days were behind me. I hadn't anticipated such strong foes among the Red Hand."

She nods to Kor'Lyn, but has few words for him, except to greet and welcome him in the eastern tradition.

Well, considering that the last cause of death was a confusion spell, which I should have had a good resistance against but didn't, I think I'll take the cloak of resistance +3.

Shalani takes the headband of charisma +4 (it's already on her profile even), that puts a headband of intelligence +2 (which adds skillpoints to knowledge (planes)) back in the ring. Someone else gets to pick something from the loot now. :) Tahllana or Dragox. I guess it works if we pick one thing and then pass along the rest until we get through the list. :)

If we stay for a few days, I can make alchemical items for the elves and repay my debt rather quickly, I think.

Shalani solemnly gifts Maysalkirii with two vials of Alchemist's Fire.
"Here, I'm sure you'll know what to do with these. Try not to burn any forests down, if you can help it."

<---- Is still confused.

But okay.

That makes me an unhappy camper, but okay. No goodbyes for Shalani.

Well, Narses glanced at you at the campfire, and it would be a little odd for us to have you propped up there like "Weekend at Shalani's." We're assuming you're going to be raised some way or other.

Okay, Yeah, I saw that too. That's why I posted a response. But now I'm confused. Am I with everyone at the campfire, or am I off somewhere lying in a morbid state?

It is sad to hear of your companion. We have a cleric of some power who could assist in raising her, and we would be happy to allow you to stay until you are rested.

I have no idea. I've been asking, but no one seems to answer. :P

Shalani's weakened body was carried back to the group. Her second brush with death had not been any less harrowing than the first.

"I... I... At first you two frightened me. A goblin and a rather rough-looking man. Adele was the only one who even seemed to make sense, and now she is gone too. I think I spoke with her a little in the other place, or was that a dream? She said, 'Give the Deed to Narses'. I'm not even certain what that means, but perhaps you do. Since you are both leaving, I am left with this strange elven woman, but I feel she is good at heart. And the half orc, whom perhaps knows even better than me what mysteries you all were capable of. I shall miss you, but know that wherever you are fighting, you will always be members of the Silversong Champions. And as long as I am alive on this earthly plane, you can find solace at my side."

Can we talk about Shalani's journey back from the afterlife. How powerful is this Elven spellcaster. Is it a blessed true resurrection spell? (talk about super-wishful thinking).

Lootwise:
She'll gladly swap out the headbands, but I would like some armor-granting devices, as well, if it can be arranged. :) DM, would you consider making the +1 rapier a +1 scimitar.. lol. Just to keep up with my eastern theme for Shalani, if you want to. If not, I guess I'll ask for the +1 shortsword and use it as a scimitar. :) I'm not trying to get greedy or powerhungry, people, so let me know if I overstep my bounds.

Yeah, but what an amazing 48 hours that was! I think I blasted 16 lizardfolk with fireballs, got at least 1 heavily armored ogre, and did some further damage to the other one. It would have been helpful if my fireball damage rolls were higher than 1s and 2s, but whatever.

DM:
No, lol. I put them there as a reminder to myself for when she is resurrected/raised. Also, the 'is currently' is a good reminder for the state of death as a temporary transition between the planes.

DM Tanner wrote:

Then it looks like we need a discussion on what to do with Shalani's body.

** spoiler omitted **

To answer that question, just look at my profile. :)

Couldn't help the closeness, I don't think. The angle was wrong for line of sight from further away, so I had to use non-line of sight abilities, like the bombs.

Shalani's sliced, diced, and chargrilled corpse remains silent.

Ah, cool. Thanks for informing me. I stopped lurking on that thread when I got into my own game.

Tanner still out for finals?

Sigh. If only it had been a red dragon again. I guess we, err, you all can be grateful its not a black dragon, which given our swamp/water terrain could have been a strong possibility.

The first attack failed to penetrate the mage armor, so its actually only 38, not 64. Adding that to the 7 damage I inflicted on myself last round. I should be at -45/38 with 10 con. So, I'm at -7 and dying. :)

From the brutal attack the 'demon' inflicted on her, Shalani's body pierced (or sliced) in too many places to mention, she crumples to the docks unconscious and bleeding profusely.

Yep, thats why I told you. I'm praying for merciful unconsciousness and a quiet drowning death (so we can keep our trend going)

Unfortunately, Dragox, since we automatically attack whatever attacked us last since entering the confused state, it looks like Narses and Shalani are going to be whaling on each other until either the end of the spell or one of us is dead (or hopefully fallen unconscious into the water and thus "out of sight")

Another rule contention. I think a touch attack is a standard action. (lol). Also, Narses, since Shalani attacked you, you automatically change your action to attack Shalani. Sigh.

I'm also not certain if we would consider that (your spell touch) as an attack, and attack you back (i.e. with an attack of opportunity) I hope not, but confusion is the worst thing.

(Edited) Actually, based on the description of confused condition, an attempt to touch us would basically be seen as an attack. We don't know who you are, lol, so you're an enemy. So, umm, stay away?

I hate to mention it, Tahllana, but you have to hit us with touch attacks to touch us for spell purposes, since we're confused.

1d100 ⇒ 90

Her mind is suddenly lucid again, but the strange demon standing next to her leers at her cruelly.

She attacks the demon (Narses) with her scimitar.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
1d6 ⇒ 5

Just thought I would point out, that Shalani moved to K34, she should be at the northern staircase, not the southern one. So, if Narses was targeted with an area confusion spell, she would have been targeted too.

Will saving throw 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Confusion 1d100 ⇒ 70

Not entirely certain what came over her, Shalani attempts to shake off the mental delusions that effect her for only a moment. Her hand itching with fire, she moves to scratch it, somehow forgetting that she was holding a scimitar in her other hand.

1d8 ⇒ 7

Okay, that's what I wanted to know.

In that case, Shalani instead moves to K34, and casts a fiery lightning bolt at the ogre at the top of the stairs, hoping to also catch the ogre behind him.

fire elemental lightning bolt
6d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 5, 3, 2, 2) = 16 fire damage, Ref DC 17 for half

Hey, look, a spell damage roll that isn't mostly ones!

Spellcraft 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32

Can I see Mnag from where I am, and if so can I hit him with a fireball and also get the ogres too? Let me know if I can't.

6d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 1, 6, 1, 1) = 13 fire damage, Ref DC 17 for half damage

Also, remember fire damage from fire arrow and the ogres still on fire.

Shalani looses another fireball at the small creature floating in the air, the explosion also striking those on the roof below it.

1d20 ⇒ 1

Shalani releases a fire arrow from her hand ranged touch attack 1d20 + 10 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 10 - 1 = 21 towards the closest ogre.

2d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2 fire damage
2d4 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3 fire damage next round
2d4 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 fire damage third round

They should still be on fire from the exploding bomb, too.

Will 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 - 1 = 9

What kind of magic weapon is this ogre using? Narses-bane? Where can I get a weapon that does 1d20 damage?

Oh, wait. I'm sorry. I meant to go to the South staircase, around the doors, as it were. Pretty much just a straight line down. Towards P-33 on the previous map. My fault for not including the coordinates.

And probably Narses as well. It's okay, I want to maintain a low combat profile for this fight anyway. I'll stay total defense this turn.

Tahllana has it right. fireball requires line of sight, and you target the space, not the creature. I don't have line of sight to the space (I'm assuming it's the ground you're targeting, although if that were the case, how could you target flying creatures. Maybe you can target a point in space???) I can throw a firebomb, since that's a ranged attack and lack of line of sight just generally implies concealment or cover.

Shalani moves around to the southern stairs on the eastern side and begins to ascend them carefully. Activating full defense. She draws her scimitar in the process.

Umm, you rolled a d20 for damage there, DM. That's kind of scary. Also I accidentally subtracted one from that firebomb damage roll. (Got carried away with the soul-damage subtractions)
