Excellent screen - very durable, but definitely could have had more fold-outs like the Hackmaster screen ;-).

By Garweeze, I remember that one! The Battle Mode, the charts for quick-made towns and taverns, and we can't forget the Pizza Matrix. All that and more on a good, heavy stock, multi-panel/multi-page screen laminated for ease of use with wet/dry erase markers...WOTC could have taken a lesson there! ;)

If this can stand up as well as my old HackMaster screen did, then its worth the price, especially since you can add your own art and charts to it.

The HackMaster screen is probably the only one to date that I was comfortable shelling out twenty bucks for, but it was sturdily built and jam packed with useful bits, including the Pizza Matrix. ;) Flip over a section and you shifted it into *Battle Mode* (access to battle related charts and pictures of the characters being mauled by the monsters..lol). I'm sure you can still swing by kenzerco.com to take a peak at it.

Still, aside from the new PF screen, this is one that I would very seriously consider getting, one in black for me and one in pink for my gf, who is also a gamer and amateur DM.

I know what you mean, Delthos. I've come to really enjoy round bases, especially the one like Privateer put out for their pieces. I like those for the double reason of round bases and the little lip around the edge which makes basing my figure a little easier to do. If you look on Privateer's store, they may still sell bases, not sure. There are plenty of alternatives out there if you want to take the extra time and effort to modify a piece to go on a round base.

The Exchange

I'm interested.
What monsters are you looking to convert? I've been knee-deep in bane thralls recently working on my conversion of Iron Kingdoms, but I'm game to help with anything, as anything I do right now nets me that much more experience with the Pathfinder system. I'll shoot you a email or private message with my gmail account.

I agree wholeheartedly. There was a lot of thought that went into the monsters for IK and they all have a lot of spirit to them. I know some aspects of IK may seem under or over powered in comparison to other settings, but things balance out when used in conjunction with the intended settings. Of course, there is also the age old stratgem of the DM Caveat to tweak a monster, npc or some such when applying it to another setting or if its just a particularly nasty example of its kind. Ask me some time about my friend's creation affectionately known as "The Damned Thing" ;)

Hmmm...looking over the Character Guide at the different races just now and something occured to me. The Races of Men in the Iron Kingdoms carry Optional Ability Adjustments according to their ethnic backgrounds. I used these when I was running IK, has anyone else used these optional adjustments?

In light of the conversions we are working on, I am thinking that such adjustments add a good deal of flavor and help to differentiate between the varying nations of Western Immoren. To that end, it may work to give humans in PF_IK these adjustments instead of the standard +2 to any Ability that humans normally get in Pathfinder. Whats says the majority?

As for the other tweaks IK humans get, I am still looking over those and comparing them to the closest things I can get in PF and will post something in regards to that in the next few days. Bloody work and all taking away from my game time...lol...alas, I do have to have the income so I can continue to pay Paizo's bills. ;)

@Cralius: It was generic dungeon stuff for any game. I wish I could find it today. I don't recall the name of what I had, but there are other things like that now. On one hand, I've seen one of two companies who sold products like that...3d dungeons with floors, walls and such. On the other hand, if you want to invest the time, effort and resources, World Works Games (http://www.worldworksgames.com/store/) has some wonderful paper models for use in gaming with standard 1" miniatures. I have a few of their patterns, just need the cardstock, transperencies and extra ink cartridges...lol.

The Exchange

Makes me miss one prop I used to have. I forget the name at the moment, but it consisted of a metal core floor plate with a grid designed to look like stone flooring and a set of wall and door pieces with small magnets on their bases, so that I could set up a small dungeon for an encounter, and then re-arrange the walls as needed for other encounters. It added a really nice touch to a game back in the day, when the players could actually get a look at what the dungeon area looked like, with walls and passages and such.

I've still got my battlemats, one with square grid and the other with hex grid. I've also got a paper map that I drew back in 03. I was actually surprised to find it amidst other items when I recently moved. Its on a 17x22 sheet with 1" square grid. As I recall, it was a bit on the pricey side, as I paid maybe fifteen or twenty bucks for four sheets when I found it. I would love to find it again, but this gamingpaper seems to be the way to go to replace it.

Great info! I've been toying with the idea of kitbashing IK into PF myself and will gladly throw out what I come up with for comparison notes and such as I get it all together. I also agree that IK would lose something integral to its very spirit if it were ever redone for 4e.

I see whats meant about IK slowing down. They still seem to support Warmachine/Hordes well enough, but I agree...more support beyond the odd mini for IK would be nice, especially with the new stuff they keep bringing us for WM/H. Still, easily my favorite setting since the original Dragonlance.

The Exchange

That would truly be a godsend if WoT could be licensed to be written up for PF. Shades, even a new system unto itself for WoT would be wonderful. I'm eagerly awaiting the last few books, but I will probably sit down and re-read the entire set before tackling those last books.

As far as game settings go, WoT is right up there among my faves. Top five would probably be WoT, Ravenloft, Iron Kingdoms, Dragonlance and Eberron. I won't say much abouth the canon PF settings yet as I am still getting to know them, but I like what I have seen so far.

Torch bearer and meat shield may also be fine choices ofr iconic kobold characters. Someone has to proceed the party into the dungeon, crypt, mausoleum, etc, to make sure there are no traps or other nasties to bar their way through to the BBEG. Of course, if you get a particularly bright kobold, it may be a candidate for Map Monkey.

The Exchange

Love the ideas put forth for the OP's BBEG. They've seriously got my gears turning, rust and dust being shaken loose as we speak. She seems the perfect setup for a recurring Villain for a party to run into time and time again, spaced out with various henchmen and such between meetings.

Flying kobolds....hmm...*weg*

This is nothing new. Anyone who can afford to raise an army can afford a decanter of endless water, which can produce 432,000 gallons of water per day. That's enough for an army of ~400,000 men, even in a desert (64 ounces, or half a gallon, per day is the usual recommended amount, so doubling that for marching through a desert seems fair).

Half gallon a day in the desert? Military units today allocate about 4 gallons of water per soldier per day for drinking if work is being done all day under normal conditions.

And, in the case of extreme heat, and especially extreme humidity, that jumps to minimal work, loosen any tight clothing, keep in the shade as much as possible...and one gallon per hour per soldier to maintain healthy hydration. Just my two cents from personal experience. Heat Cat 5 is nothing to sneeze at, when its so hot and humid that you can experience severe heat exhaustion from just stepping out of the barracks, never mind trying to do any sort of labor. Something to think about.

Not to hijack the thread, but has anyone tried eTools from CodeMonkeyPublishing?

I've used it quite a bit for 3.0/3.5, so with a little tweaking it may working for PF. I'll have to look and see if they are still selling it, since they have been working on RPG Forge. I'll look into it later and see where it stands....current prices, available os's and the like. I've enjoyed using it over the years, for making characters, npcs, monsters, and quite a bit more.

I've got the demo of RPGXplorer, will try that one soon and come to an opinion. I'll look into the others lister here and see what I think of them.

Looking forward to hearing more takes on these programs.

The Exchange

Sorry, still working on the teleport without error spells...they're harder than you might think! ;)

The Exchange

Very cool. Thanks to both of you. Should definitely make things much smoother.

Sorcerer. Bloodline granted claw attacks. Flaming claws even. Damage? Minimal. Purpose? In my own opinion...what better way to pimp slap a recalcitrant minion back into line than with three inch claws that suddenly popped out of my fingers, all glowing with eerie green flames? I am sure, to the OP, that with perseverance, you can kitbash something that will let you set the claws up to be the melee monster you said you wanted your Sorc to be. For me. claws on a character like that are all about flavor, impression and intimidation. That stubborn minion will think twice before stepping out of line again when he thinks about the nice new scars he has running across his cheek. ^^

Ok, I'm confused about a small issue in regards to skills.
I see that the progression for skill points is practically the same as 3.5, but what of the initial skill points? I know that in 3.5, the initial skill points were (X + Int Mod)x4, where x was based on character class. Is this not true for Pathfinder? Or is it that this was replaced with getting the +3 bonus to any class skills that had ranks assigned to them?

Thank you in advance to everyone who replies to this question.

Aye...Echidnox and Platypod must be added to the collection. Geek factor kicking in...lol. I love odd minis like that.

The Exchange

Sounds par for course. Finding Pathfiner was a godsend for me. I have been playing since the days of the sacred Red Box. I've been through the original rules, 2e/AD&D, 3e/3.5. Yes, I've looked over 4e, I've talked to the guys that run the local game shop, and a few who have played 4e. Looking over everything that I have, I'm not impressed. This may come across as snarky, but the first strike for me was the, well...calcification, as it were, of the Tiefling race. In 3e, there was variety, the appearance of the infernal taint on the bloodline could be as subtle or as overt as the player and DM wanted it to be. Now, 4e makes them all baby demons, they all supposedly look alike, yadda yadda yadda.

Meh, cosmetic point perhaps, but its still a point. My girl friend loves playing Tieflings and she about screamed when she read the new description of what they are supposed to look like. Beyond that, the system itself just didn't spark my imagination. Too much like a full on conversion of a computer mmo to a pen and paper rpg. Not for me. I'll leave my mmos on the computer and my true role play around the gaming table. Healing surges and at will abilities for everyone...power cards to track it all with, phah...Clerics and potions are for healing. Fighters are for fighting. Wizards are for nuking and so on. The more I look at 4e, the more I realize that it is becoming nothing more than a cash cow for the unholy duo of WotC and Hasbro. I know they have brought in a fairly large new fan base. Shades, I even saw the 4e starter box at Toys R Us! Ten to one odds, the moment DnD stops being profitable...it gets the axe. Especially now that they have Pathfinder to contend with. I enjoyed the 3.x rule set before. I enjoy it even more now that Paizo has worked their magic on it.

Subscriptions? Well, I've seen that Paizo does offer a couple. And you better believe that once I am able to I will be signing up to get maps and modules in my mailbox every other month. Digital tools, character managers? Love to see them, but for the love of critical hits, don't forget us Crackberry users...iPhone/iPod isn't the only game in town....lol.

In close, I began the new year with a new game: Pathfinder. After much careful consideration, I finally picked up my Core Rulebook on New Year's Day this year. I eagerly look forward to what the future brings from Paizo and their teams working on the Pathfinder line. In the meantime, I will say a quiet prayer for the glory that once was Dungeons & Dragons...

The Exchange

You might also look at Privateer Press's Iron Kingdoms line. They have rules for firearms of different types, but they are done in such a way as to not be overpowerful nor very easy to obtain. Magical creations from the ground up, including the *blasting powders* used in the cartridges. As I commented in another thread, I will probably be kitbashing Iron Kingdoms into Pathfinder in the near future since it doesn't look like it will be making the cut for 4e.

The Exchange

Oh yeah,I forgot one. I used to run a young troll that was created from the Monsters book from AEG(I think). Had a blast with that one. Sure, not as tough or powerful as a full grown troll, plenty of predjudice and such to work around, made it all the more interesting. Crowning moment was when we ran up against the wizard big bad that we were chasing. I still can't believe the DM did this with his NPC, but there's my troll, flat on his back looking up at the wizard who...for whatever reason...decides to cast a fireball straight down into my troll's face.

Final Score...troll 1, wizard 0. Never cast a fireball at a creature that you're standing over....>:)

The Exchange

I agree with Thri'krin. Had lots of fun with those back in 2e Darksun.
I'd also like to see returns, as others have said, of Draconians and Minotaurs from Dragonlance. Kender would be nifty as well. I used to have a blast playing a kender.
Warforged, shifters and changelings ala Eberon would be excellent choices if there were a decent way around the copyright stuff.
I'd also be keen to see some of the races from the Iron Kingdoms settings like the gobbers, Nys and so on. In fact, I will likely be kitbashing IK in Pathfinder in the near future.
