I think its because i have access to level 1 ranger spells, which are arcane.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hi all, i have been playing Pathfinder for about 6 years and really enjoy the vast amount of class customisation available.

I use PCGen to make majority of my characters and have been playing around with the Hybrid classes.

Ive been playing a Hunter in a Rise of tge Runelords campaign and am looking to mix him up a bit. The Arcane Archer peaked my curiosity. Ive never played one and it isnt exactly over powered but it adds a bit of punch to ranged combatants.

Arcane Archer Prerequisites;
BAB +6
Feats - precise shot, point blank shot, weapon focus (longbow)
Abillity to cast level 1 arcane spells.

My Hunter has all of the prerequisites, but the spellcasting has fallen into a bit of a grey area.

The Hunter is a devine caster, seems like a clear cut no, but it is comprised of Ranger (Arcane) and Druid (Devine). Meaning that i can cast level 1 arcane spells from the hunter spell list.

My question is, can a level 7 Hunter prestige into Arcane Archer?

Edit-
PCGen allows me to gain levels in arcane archer even though i am a devine caster

Also Edit-
I have been speaking to the GM running the campaign and he is happy for me to prestige but only apply spells from the Ranger spell list to arrows where applicable with Arcane Archer class features.

Hi all, our play group is going to start an evil themed campaign soon and i am thinking about playing a Necromancer.

What are the best classes/archetypes do you think i should look at?

I've been looking at the Undead Master Wizard Archetype, which is only available to Evil Characters. I think that this one might be the go.

Thank you for your suggestion, I have found a name that I like. I have settled on Phantoms of the Noble, seemed fitting and cryptic enough for the group that I hope it will be.

So I am going to run a campaign that is simular to the way Pathfinder Society is ran amongst my group of friends. I have decided to make a guild, and have them all start as Level 1 characters.

The backdrop of the guild is that it is an association that offers services to businesses/individuals in the way that the Pathfinder Society does, it will be smaller and probably better accepted amongst my friends. (I've tried to run PS before and it hasn't worked as well as planned)

I plan to include a major artefact that can restore a dead character to life but the character loses all knowledge and gear it had since it was last used.
(i.e if a character dies in a session, it gets restored to the way it was at the start of the session, forgoing XP, loot and character experience.)

I am really stuck on the name for the group, any suggestions? I want to have it tied to immortality or servitude towards the betterment of civilisation.

Ok so I just finished a Rise of the Runelords session where a player decided he might shocking grasp an NPC in Sandpoint that was irritating him. It was largely unprovoked, but the attack could have killed the smart mouthed shop keeper.

I feel I need to make some sort of in game punishment for PCs that defy in game law, these guys are supposed to be the heroes after all. If I overlook the whole situation, the player will think it is all fine and may repeat the action against another NPC, so I need to bring in a punishment.

My questions are;

1) What is pre written as far as crime and punishment in Varisia

2) What do people think I should convict his character of, a slap on the wrist or something more?

So did google when I looked up health bar programs :P

I play in person, I have a monitor set up which I remote into and display initiative and what not. I could display heath numbers(eg 34/100), but I don't want my players to know exactly how close to death the opponents are, but still have a decent indication

That is a good idea for excel, ill have to look into it

I know it isn't a necessary thing to have, but may relieve some of the stress in running a combat. I could save the time spent on describing the physical states of PCs/NPCs and instead use it focussing more on what the PCs are doing and what my NPCs are going to do

So I am currently running a campaign and I thought it may be a good idea to have displayable heath bars for the PCs/NPCs for combat. Does anyone know of any good free software which I could download to have custom heath bars to display the information for my players?

Hi, I have a player in a campaign that I am running that argues that the spell "Read Magic" should be a spell that does not need to be prepared in order to cast for the Wizard.

The rule book mentions; "He (the wizard) cannot prepare any spell not recorded in his spellbook, except for read magic, which all wizards can prepare from memory."

I assumed this to mean that they do need to prepare the item.

Does the wizard need to prepare read magic in order to use it?

Hi, I am a first time GM, had my first session last night, all went better than I expected. The only thing that I have doubts on is one of my PCs. He is playing with a familiar that has somehow gained a level in cleric. I have absolutely no idea how this has happened, to my knowledge familiars cannot gain levels, his familiar (a monkey) has higher base stats than the traditional monkey that the familiar monkey is derived from.

My questions are;

1) Am I right in saying familiars can't level up, and definitely can't take classes?
2) Are the Familiar's stats identical to the animal it is associated with? In this case a monkey (Str 3, Dex 15, Con 10, Int 2, Wis 12, Cha 5)
3) What kind of languages can the familiar speak?
