Simo Icecap wrote: I don't see how you can expend one spell slot to get both a smite and activate that ability. Costing two spell slots is a pretty heavy expense. Yes it costs two spell slots, but its a surefire way to get all that damage in, since you only have to fire both after you already confirmed that you hit (or potentially even critted) and from there there is no save or anything. You spend the two slots and get in all those extra d8s. A 11th level warlock 2nd level paladin (to go by our current average level) could expend two warlock slots for 10d8 force and 6d8 radiant damage. That's an average of 72 damage in one stroke before adding the weapon's actual damage. If you cast spells, you also get a lot of damage out of them, but usually you have to get past a save or attack roll which halves or negates the damage. The way i've experienced 5e so far, it is built in such a way as to not allow for level appropriate enemies to be able to one-shot each other.

Yes rolling saves for us would infinitely expediate the gameplay. Or alternatively you could say "Dex save DC X or take [damage roll] piercing damage". That way it only takes your post announcing the trap or other effect being sprung, and when we see it we can basically immediately tell what the result on our character will be and note it into our sheets/aliases There are probably going to be a lot more traps and going through three posts for each one will keep the game crawling at a snails pace. Also instead of having us roll checks and only giving us the results once you've seen the post you could just post a spoiler saying "Perception DC X" and those who then roll the necessary check result can open and look at the spoiler. Simo Icecap wrote: That UA for warlocks is one of the best things published for 5e right now. I hope the entire thing makes it to print. honestly I'd rather they give Mace of Dispater and Curse Bringer a once-over I don't think it should be able to be stacked with a paladin's smite.

Oh I thought I get only one of the two: INT (Investigation): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (13) + 0 = 13 "Are you sure? I've just started getting comfy." The dragon pauses, then continues "Ah, also I really don't like to waste even more magic than I already did." Sonya, I don't know if i'm within 30 feet, but we can communicate verbally (and I can see) through my pseudodragon familiar which is still with you guys, so you can also just talk to the dragon. In either case this is what Sen would answer: "Yeah I can get back with a little magic. So, it's a tiny unlit room, maybe 10 feet in every dimension. No light, no discernible windows or doors leading out of it. There are these three levers on one wall, look like you can set them either of four ways, up, down, left, right. All of em set to the middle. Hold on I just wanna take a closer look."

"I can't find any more clues in here.", the dragon chimes up. "So perhaps we need to toss a magic ring in that demon maw that just swallowed the lizard." The dragon looks around for a bit, then flies over to the picture of the two dog-men holding the bronze box. It drifts over to the left slightly coming to a halt and sets down on the red path. Looking at the section of the wall between the dog-men and the prison door it says: "This up there looks like a tormentor." See illustration 3 DM: Meanwhile Sen will sit down and have a light snack, depending on how long it takes to figure this out, she might get a short trest in and regain that spell slot she just used.

"124 if leaving a number of the levers neutral is part of the solution. Yes I can get back, but I won't just yet. There is only so much magic i have before I need to take a break. See what you can find. These levers may be a part of the answer." the dragon responds.

Is there light in this room, or am I perceiving only with darkvision? If there is no light, I take out a torch and cast faerie fire, so that only the torch is affected. I don't want to actually light a fire in this room, just the dim light of the spell is enough. The dragon in Simo's hands suddenly speaks, its voice sounds identical to Sen's: "So these levers appear to be movable up, down, left, or right. They're all set neutral. Let me see what else I can figure out." It continues after a moment: "Oh, and I can hear and see anything Sinjin hears, so just talk to him, if you have something to tell or show me."
female Half-Elf Warlock 12 (Far Traveler)
"Hmm... nothing." Sen murmurs before turning her attention to Simo and Morgan again "Three levers? Do they have any markings on the...?" she stops as the lizard appears back on the gnome's head. "Alright, hold this." she stretches har arm out and Sinjin lands on it. Sen then hands the dragon to Simo. "DON'T eat the lizard, okay?", the dragon just takes a look at Sparkle and then drops its gaze, disappointed. "Everyone wait here, I have an idea." Sen turns and walks into the mist. Assuming she gets transported to the room described by Simo, Sen will inspect the levers closely, for any markings, and how they are arranged and in which direction they are set.

Sen looks at her dragon: "Care to take one for the team?"
The dragon then stretches it wings and takes off from her shoulder, flying back down the corridor and inspecting the walls. WIS (Perception): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 Looking for any markings matching the colors of the thre glowing stones on the door.

Sen falls in behind the others, studying the mosaics on the walls curiously as she follows. The tiny dragon, still perched on her shoulder, meanwhile watches her steps as if they were its own, making sure she does not step off the red path. With Voice of the Chain Master i can perceive through my familiar's senses, which according to find familiar I already can, so I assume that voice of the chain master, because it doesn't say anything further, does not have the same limitation that while seeing through my familiar i am incapable of seeing through my own. So I should be able to have my familiars eyes keep the path in view while I look at something entirely different. And if nothing else the familiar can still warn me of a misstep telepathically through Voice of the Chain Master.

"So I suppose you have your mind set on using this entrance?" Sen comments as Morgan creates a new corridor. She follows him down the tunnel and inspects the door at the end, as well as the walls, ceiling and floor immediately around it, to ensure there aren't more traps. WIS (Perception): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Sen turns to the dragon on her shoulder: "I'll need a better view of the place." The creature spreads its wings and leaps off with a few flaps, taking to the air. Sen's eyes glaze over as she stands in concentration. Using eyes of the Chain Master to percieve through the pseudodragon's senses, letting it fly up and survey the terrain, looking for potential entrances.

Great, then I do have some options. Kraven Smythe wrote: While a fighter type, I would also benefit the group by being in the center of it due to my auras and low perception/investigation scores. I built Kraven as a support pally, so I'm really here just to make you guys better :D Even if you're not a vengeance pally, you still have one of the hardest hitting melee classes. Are you sure you don't want to stand between me and certain death?

Mighty curteous of you. So a question for the DM:
So I was wondering if you happen to own a copy of Kobold Press's Tome of Beasts. Because that book would actually open a few options for this spell that would help me out. If not, or you dont want me to use it (because its 3pp, which i understand) could i instead switch out the spell?

The ashen blonde half-elven girl you've come to know as Saenaith, or "Sen" for short, stands barely 6 feet tall. Her face, when not covered by her unkempt hair depicts a youthful beauty with large, almond shaped, purple eyes that together with her small frame almost makes it hard to take her seriously as a fellow adult or indeed an adventurer. A short green tunic dress covers her turso, arms, and barely half of her bare thighs, while the feet and lower legs up to just above the knees are clad in long, finely wrought boots of elven make. Her narrow shoulders are wrapped in a dark green cape with a fur-lined hood. In her right hand she holds what appears to be an elven bow missing its bowstring. This implement you have learned she uses to release magical bolts of purple energy the same way an archer releases arrows from an intact bow. A catsized, lithe, dragonlike creature rests on her left shoulder, wings folded close to its back, surveying the situation with quick turnsof its head, not unlike a bird. She drops her hood, the small dragon flapping its wings to stay on her shoulder as she does so: "So are we going to have to dig it out of the dirt or something?"
Threeshades' submission: Half-Elf Warlock (Archfey, Chain) I still have just over 4k gold left, which i might just blow on healing potions, unless someone can point me to the dexterity equivalent of Gauntlets of Ogre Power or Headbands of intellect. My familiar, if I can be assumed to have summoned it prior to the begnning of the game, will be a pseudodragon named Sinjin.
