Seb would never pay that huge amount of money for some information... at least the old Seb - the one used to handle small coin and deal with problems the rich never hear about. The Seb of today, however... is it that much, five gold, to fulfill a job that could provide much, much more? Probably not. He lets the others try to thin the coat, though, just in case. There's always time to lighten the purse if words don't work.
Sebastian has employed his time in taking care of his old mother, making sure she has everything she needs thanks to his new money. Though many explanations and some little lies have to be handed out, in the end she accepts that his son is not going to keep asking, at least for now. Once he rejoins the others, Sebastian asks what they have found in the Azure District.
Dice ahoy! HP: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 With an average of 5+2=7, even only one point above it is a triumph. Let's go level up! +8 HP
Sebastian hesitates when the coins are offered to him. "Ehm... Alright, listen, I don't really mind waiting for my payment if you think you need more time. I mean, it's okay if I get more jobs from you in the future, and you pay me then, when your investments allow you to do it more loosely." He shrugs. "That's if you prefer, of course. I think of it as an investment, also - money later instead of now, but more jobs like this one."
Sebastian meditates on Lila's idea. "If sunset/sunrise mean Eest/East, then it should mean left/right... Then if the pointer has to signal the creatures... in order... I think we should turn the wheel East until we point to the Chimera, then West until we point the Cyclops, and so on." He scratches his chin. "I guess."
Sebastian almost jumps out of the room at the sight of the dangerous snake! Somehow, though, he manages to stand his ground - specifically, he notices the cobra is not attacking him, which helps a lot keeping his morale. He bobs left and right trying to find a gap from where to shoot it, and throws his ghostly weapon at it... Attack, Point Blank: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 1 = 8
And suddenly, Sebastian finds an opportunity to completely change his lifestyle. He wonders, though, whether this is one of those jobs where the risk is greater than the outcome. He had to take care of his mother, so he needs some steadiness. But you never know if the boat is going to pass twice... "What would the job involve, and what would the payment be?"
Sebastian is guided to the High Market by the small human. He's been around quite some times, though always as a carrier, never leaving his boat. He hasn't got time to change his clothes, so he's wearing his usual blue pocho. He ties his long, black hair in a pony tail, afraid that whoever called for employees notices he hasn't washed his hair in a while. Beside the halfling, he looks even taller than usual. He has to bow quite low to whisper at his guide's ears. [smaller]"Are all these folks here for the same reason as me?"[/smaller he asks, having noticed the almost clonic heralds walking ahead of the various groups.
Sebastian is walking distracted, carefully calculating the cost of a new boat and thinking about every detail. He'll have to invest quite some money if he wants a nice vessel with which to carry wealthy merchants up and down the canals of the Merchant District. He starts counting his coins mentally again when suddenly a female voice Carthage his attention. A hairline is there, dressed in green and amber, and talking to him. She talks about big opportunities, about the start of business Sebastian has never even thought were possible. He wonders who this Lavinia might be. Kn Local: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17 "Whoever she is" he thinks, "that's a chance I cannot let go." He directs his steps towards the Sasserine Vaults, ready to seize Fortune and not let it wink its eye to him in vain.
Ah, I get it. No, my idea was to use Startoss Style as a pure damage enhancer. I know, three feats, but each is equivalent to a Weapon Specialization, so that nets +6 damage. +6 damage on each attack when you're using Rapid Shot, Manyshot, Haste, etc adds up to thehelluvalot damage. Of course, the fact that you can bounce the attack to secondary targets is nice when you need to move, but sadly in PF full-attack beats almost everything. After further investigation I've found out that the Psychic Armory is not allowed to form properly called thrown weapons except for Mind Daggers. That would reduce the base damage to 1d4 but allow a potential +6 damage. The archetype would save me some precious feats and blade skills but would never allow me to use Manyshot (whereas the Soulbolt would, through a blade skill). Price to pay. All in all, it seems better. Of course, that is only a mechanic bend. Fluff and coolness is not affected. I guess, since I haven't even started playing, there's no problem in a small change like this, other than the archetype being not in the d20pfsrd page. I've found a link to it here, though it appears reworked as a base class. I could give access to the original.
Why the Vital Strike chain? And which other 3 feats are you referring to? Damn, now I feel as if I've been doing it wrong all my life xD What I had in my was something like: Point Blank Shot
And others if there's place for them, like Clustered Shots, etc.
Storm Dragon wrote: So, the problem comes in with you being a Soulbolt, not a Soulknife. The Soulbolt makes (explicitly) Projectile weapons, not Thrown ones. Well, it specifically says "ranged weapon", and it seems when I made the character I assumed thrown weapons were ranged weapons. So I was not mistaken, thankffully :) Storm Dragon wrote:
The archetype appears in Psionics Augmented: Soulknife. Converting to it would be most favourable, since it comes with a series of in-built advantages, but even though it emulates a throwing weapon, it prevents you from taking Emulate Ranged Weapon, so I guess I wouldn't be able to apply Startoss Style. At the end of the day, applying Startoss Style is super nice for the damage boost, but I don't know if it's going to be worthwhile. My doubts, in any case, are solved and now it's up to me to navigate the labyrinths of choices :)
Alright, so I made the character a while ago and I'm reviewing it to grasp the mechanics. If any of you knows better, Is like to expose some doubts I have about the build, and see if I'm on the right way. -First of all, let's put on the table the original concept, which was a thrown weapon guy who created his own weapons, kind of a Ghosts'n'Goblins idea. -Suppose I want to use a feat regarding throwing Weapons. Since the mind bolt is not a throwing Weapons (e.g. Startoss Style), that would require me to take the Emulate Ranged Weapon blade skill, or? But if I do, I'm not sure if Weapon Focus: Mindblade will still be valid. -Since when I made the character I chose to give him a Wisdom of 20, I'm guessing I was planning to use the Focused Offense blade skill, but would that be legit, since ranged attacks don't use Strength for attacking? Basically, instead of a Soulbolt, I should be playing a Psychic Armory archetype, but at the time of creation I wasn't aware of its existence, so I guess I'll have to deal with what we have. To emulate the Psychic Armory, I'll need to spend a lot of blade skills and feats, but I want to be sure it will work, because if not I'll have to look for another way. Or maybe you could just let me swap the archetype, but this could take me a day or two perhaps. Thank you!
"Of course he does. But not how you think, not about evil or good or whatever, but in relation to acting according to your power." Crenshaw still has the gun in his hand and, when he realises, puts it back to its holster. "We mortals, however, as imperfect as we are, follow the Gods' advice in a dual way, because we have no choice. I was bound to a life of crime, due to this Gaedren, and so I would have followed one of the faces a God like Nethys has. Destiny, luck or Nethys' will, however you call it, wanted me to be turned to Good though, and so now I follow the opposite face." He realises he is being a bit too philosophical. "Basically, Nethys doesn't like that you use magic to go to the loo. Use it for important things instead. And I care that you use it for good, not for evil."
"He doesn't. He cares, though, if the gift he's given to the sentient races is used properly. He is the God of Magic and, as his servant, I am to care about how do you use his gifts, if any." He stops for a second and looks around. "And I've noticed many of you have such gifts." Then he starts walking again. "Fow now, though, I have to say you have nothing to fear."
Crenshaw pays full attention to the conversation. "Hey guys. You better check what you're using all these fancy charms for, will you? A big power equals a big responsibility, and... after we've met, I don't want to be chasing for you, uh?" He uses two of his fingers of one hand to point at his eyes, the universal sign of "I am watching you". "Nethys is watching, remember." Looking elsewhere, he adds "Now, we should be caring for those children of yours that were kidnapped. Let's have a look, shall we?"
"Damn, too late." Crenshaw stands up. "Well, it was the end he deserved, running for his life like a rat." Crenshaw then realises some others had more business with Gaedren. "For those of you in search of other things, we should make a thorough searching of the place. Your kiddoes could be here, or any clues that lead to them." Then he starts by searching Gaedren's corpse.
Crenshaw meditates for a second. "Well, yeah, if you are seeking for something..." He cocks the trigger and puts the barrel of his revolver under Gaedren's throat, then touches his shoulder with the other hand while praying to Nethys. "Speak only when asked, or you're dead." CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 Feck, these rolls never happen when curing a fellow PC...
