Male Human Dude
I was trying to think through a safer strategy as opposed to rushing in without thought. If I wanted a c*nt in the group, I'd have brought along your mother. We kept 'em alive up until now, may as well keep them that way.
Jack, clearly annoyed with Pete's negative attitude, looks for a place to secure these walking brick-houses.
Awareness 32:
1d100 ⇒ 42
I'll try and find the thickest set of trees around
Male Human Dude
I'm, um, not sure what we can secure these locomotives to, especially unsupervised. I recommend we haul them back to HQ, grab bigger weapons, and return as soon as the storm clears.
Male Human Dude
So..... I found an online documentary about our squad and will put the link below:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qehLhqLx6Ak
It's Honest Trailers: XCom, and it's well done in my opinion.
Male Human Dude
Thanks Doc, you're the best!
Wounds now 17/19
Jack shifts his focus to Pete giving him a hand with the prisoners.
Thanks for the hand! I agree that one hug from them is enough for today, I am looking forward to seeing what the geek squad can do with these specimens.
Male Human Dude
Lol! So I did. Was at work, had to type quickly into my phone.
As Jack worked on securing his two prisoners, he turned to Anna.
Yo doc, mind checking out this cut when you have a chance? These ones are more cuddly than the others.
Male Human Dude
In that case, I drop down one degree'a worth of success.
Male Human Dude
Well, this encounter has been the most exciting by far. I wonder what would have happened were I to fail my Toughness test. Poison maybe?
Male Human Dude
Jesus ¡@!$! What the ¿$&! did you stick me with? Is is Saturday night already?
My dodge blows, no point in trying. I take 6 points of damage. Toughness 62
1d100 ⇒ 30
Pass! Phew
Jack returned fire with his taser pistol point blank before sliding down to the unconscious brute and hastily binding him:
BS: 32+30+5= 67
1d100 ⇒ 25
Passed with 4 degrees of success, I hope he enjoys his taser to the eyeball.
Wounds: 10/19, (still above half)
Male Human Dude
Hahaha, just bought it myself! Will have to name them after us and see how long they last. Jack is all or nothing: his head-first attitude will either kill him first mission, or his crazy toughness will see him through to the end.
Male Human Dude
Jack sprinted to the stunned alien to bind it with his manacles, swapping out for his taser pistol while running.
Logistically this could be 1-2 turns, but Jack is keen on bagging one of these brutes
Male Human Dude
Jack's shot is on target for one of the enemies, Toughness -20 to avoid being stunned. See above post for roll/sequence of actions.
Male Human Dude
Well thank God Jack has over 60 Toughness before factoring in armour. That still smarted, but could have been much worse.
Male Human Dude
Dodging without the skill is Agi - 20 I believe
Agi: 31-20=11
1d100 ⇒ 45
lol fail
Jack couldn't get out of the way in time, and took the round straight in the chest.
Oof, that was a good one!
Jack took cover with Bob nearby, and reloaded his rifle. When he is next able to, he takes another shot:
BS: 32+5=37
1d100 ⇒ 24
One degree of success, this time Toughness -20. I think they get another round in before I can fire back.
Wounds: 16/19
Male Human Dude
Jack looks at these new creatures to find a weak spot: (Per 32)
1d100 ⇒ 61
Jack didn't notice anything upon first glance.
Jack takes out his new taser rifle and shoots the brute not being shot at:
BS=37+5
1d100 ⇒ 33
No degrees of success, -10 Toughness test to avoid being stunned.
Male Human Dude
Upon the guidance and intel from his superiors, Jack sets up his EMP rocket and will fire as soon as he sees a viable UFO target:
full round action to aim once set up, with Bob bracing me
BS: 37+10+5=52
1d100 ⇒ 18
Edit: 3 degrees of success
[i] Jack waits quietly and patiently for the first sign of a follow-up attack, then (presumably) stays on target.
Male Human Dude
Jack, as usual, gets excited about Powerline's flying. Bob reaches out to grab hold of something, considers saying something, but doesn't.
I've always wondered what it felt like to be a Cosmonaut. You rock, Powerline!!!
Male Human Dude
I'll swap out my gear for the taser rifle, EMP rockets for the launcher, and I'll keep my taser pistol for close range. For this mission, Bob will handle my prisoners and bring them back to our pick-up point. I request from HQ 2-3 guards to be at the pick-up point to be able to guard prisoners that Bob will bring to them. By chance, do you have any better cuffs I can use on these alleged bigger aliens? I don't mind risking my neck, as long as there are people to properly process the targets.
Male Human Dude
If you've ever watched the Avengers, you would know New York is to be protected at all costs. As long as we factor in the major cities, I'm for a quick trip to Alaska.
Bob nods
Male Human Dude
In keeping with the themes previously mentioned, I recommend that lack of input in the Gameplay thread means silent concurrence, and that we forge ahead.
Male Human Dude
From what I remember of anything related to XCom, having long-range capability is always nice.
Since I banked my previous batch of XP and never spent it, I think I'll spend 750/800 XP on my next two toughness advances, bringing it up to a total of 62. Last advance is probably not worth it since it won't push me past the magic threshold.
Male Human Dude
Stealth? Sorry boss, ain't my style. If we ever find something related to door-kicking, I'll be interested.
Has our intel cell found any recent activities related to the xenos or this group?
Male Human Dude
With mission #3 out of the way, I am interested in group feedback for the campaign. I am more than happy to keep trucking along onto new adventures, and I will play my part to be more active on the forum/threads. We started with frequent posts, but scaled back as time went on. In my experience with pbp though, this is fairly normal.
In terms of group cohesion, I think this is a solid group. In that regard, I would not want to change anything.
Male Human Dude
Sir, you'll notice the prisoner we brought back with us, who is currently in our holding cell. He didn't say much, but one look at him and you'll notice they've been playing around with gene therapies of their own..... whoever they are. Hopefully our interrogators can get more out of him.
In terms of gene therapies of our own, I volunteer to take part. I'm tough enough to handle whatever the geek squad can throw my way, and I can give you research data that has been battle-tested.
Will the therapy cost XP?
Male Human Dude
Jack finishes grabbing what he can and grabs hold of his prisoner
Rigged to blow you say? So long, and thanks for all the fish.
Male Human Dude
Jack has seen one too many episodes of Inspector Gadget and spy shows to know you always check for cyanide pills. There were no cyanide pills used in Inspector Gadget, he just likes the cartoon in general.
Male Human Dude
Jack looks in disgust as he walks into the "Frankenstein Room". He quickly cuffs their live subject with manacles and quickly checks inside the person's mouth to make sure there's no cyanide pill or equivalent before they regain their senses:
Rolling awareness for overall search of the prisoner, Perception 32
1d100 ⇒ 15
Pass with a degree of success
Be right with you boss, ensuring our bonus prize isn't packing any hidden surprises.
[i] After Jack ensures their live capture remains live, he gives their capture a shake-down for any weapons/tech/tracking devices. Presumably making the prisoner safe for transport, Jack helps stuff relevant goodies in a duffel bag.
Male Human Dude
Jack would hate it if he missed the main event - he races down to the room and attempts to taze the first goon he sees:
BS= 37
1d100 ⇒ 9
Let's see if we can take one back to interrogate.
Beowulf here, swooping in to support as fast as I can.
Male Human Dude
Jack reloads his shotgun, and swaps out for his electric pistol. After giving the turret a swift kick, he turns back to Mark and gives him a thumbs up.
Male Human Dude
While I would have, in theory, passed a tech-use test to shut it down, Jack gained some satisfaction in disabling the turret. His blood pressure has dropped back down a little, he was about to froth at the mouth.
Male Human Dude
Strength: 38
1d100 ⇒ 24 pass with one degree of success
Jack, clearly pissed off at this point in time, grabs the turret with both hands and rips it off of its mount.
Spectre, this is Beowulf, the turret is no longer a problem.
Male Human Dude
Jack has had some bad dice rolls after having an arm wound, even though it's actually not a huge deal I figured I may as well attribute bad luck with in-game circumstance.
Male Human Dude
Jack tries a tech-use test to disable the device from behind it's range:
Int 31:
1d100 ⇒ 73
Jack's arm is still hampering his abilities, he is absolutely furious.
Spectre! My f***ing arm is f***ing causing me s***!!! Having trouble aiming or disabling this ************ thing, I may need to get this ********* thing looked at.
Male Human Dude
Jack runs up to the turret with his reloaded shotgun and fires on full auto:
BS= 37+30-10=57
1d100 ⇒ 83
Jack growls, he is starting to get angry.
Clip: 8/12
Male Human Dude
Seriously, automated weapons? Come out and fight like a man!
WP=32
1d100 ⇒ 9
Jack takes his favourite (& wounded) arm and flips off the turret, before spending a turn to reload his shotgun and close ground on the turret.
Valkyrie, this is Beowulf, we won't take too long with this obstacle and will regroup soonest
Male Human Dude
Jack moves to regroup with Pete and Anna, desperately trying to remember what his radio call-sign is.
Male Human Dude
Hey! That's my favourite arm!!!
Having taken away 2 of his 19 wounds, Jack plays "economist" and shows the gentleman what a return on investment is:
Shotgun on full auto, point blank:
BS=57
1d100 ⇒ 78
Jack grimaced as he swung around and shot at the man in the room; the pain in his arm causing his shot to go wide and miss.
Clip: 3/12
Wounds: 17/19

Righteous however works differently in Only war. Apparently you do not do another d10 damage it instead inflicts an effect on the injury charts based on the damage type and the d10 (which turns into a d5)
Ah, good to know. Either way, he's probably going to feel it!
Male Human Dude
Looks like Jack gets his fun today, his thick head was never one to dive out of harm's way!
Male Human Dude
Jack sees the guy behind the chair take out what he assumes is a grenade and rushes him point blank with the shotgun. Jack is crazy like that.
Word of advice: Don't bring a grenade to a Jack fight.
Shotgun on full auto point-blank:
BS=37+30-10=57
1d100 ⇒ 24
Three degrees of success
Three bullets hit, plus scatter effect for four hits total:
1d10 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 + 1d10 ⇒ 7 = 20
1d10 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
1d10 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
1d10 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Righteous fury confirm: 1d100 ⇒ 50
Clip: 7/12
Wounds 19/19
This is the kind of adrenaline high Jack was seeking, the Discovery Channel just quite isn't the same.
Male Human Dude
I hope we're not waiting on Jack... He already rolled to shoot the next person he sees. Time to bust down doors and shoot people.
Male Human Dude
Jack suggests to Mark that 15 mins isn't the time to play sneaky stealthy. Jack, who has zero stealth skill at all, lumbers behind Mark.
Once he's allowed to shoot somebody, he fires away with the shotgun:
BS=37+5+30 (I fire at point blank)=62
1d100 ⇒ 48

Pete Carlton wrote: Chalk one up, I'm a year older today. Happy birthday! I'll have a drink to that.
Male Human Dude
Sorry for my period of inactivity; 10 hour days have become 12 hour days, and as soon as I leave work my phone starts buzzing. Pete is 100% correct that in times like these, people can act in my absence until I can get the crazy under control.
Jack is back in the action! I missed shooting aliens in the face.
Male Human Dude
Jack covers Mark as he approaches the door, shotgun in hand. Stealth was never his style; this was much more his speed.
Awareness 32: 1d100 ⇒ 22
Pass awareness with a degree of success
Male Human Dude
Jack loads his shotgun and grins
Roger that boss. This is gonna be fun.
Male Human Dude
I can't come up with better nicknames than you all, I think "Big-Mouth Bob" is appropriate though. I am ready to start the mission, bit of a slave to RL at the moment.
Male Human Dude
You want the door-kicker's opinion? I vote we kick down the door, shoot everybody, taze one if we can, rescue any friendlies and leave. The "keep it simple" principle reduces the number of moving parts that can fail on you.
Male Human Dude
Jack is ready to go adventuring, will spend XP later.
